No Doubt.

Konami could be gearing up "no pun intended" to make a new announcement concerning the Metal Gear franchise At least that's what was allegedly inferred in a recent tweet from Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance voice actor Quinton Flynn.

Flynn, who voices the divisive (I personally like the kid) protagonist Raiden, made the cryptic comment in response to a fan on his Twitter. Following a post in which Flynn advertised a new Cameo page, follower zxSOLIDxSNAKEzx casually commented "Perhaps a Metal Gear Rising 2 along with the rest of the upcoming Metal Gear showcase might just make it?"

"Stayed tuned for things to be anno??unced in the coming weeks" responded Flynn, complete with? winky face.

//twitter.com/quintonflynn/status/1615284297056788481?s=20&t=SXPPaeCmdFKNJ6S??TVk13Bw

Now, of course, it should be made clear that Flynn might simply be referring to a personal project that he has in mind, rather than a brand new game, remaster, or remake. But with the 10th anniversary of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance approaching, as well as ongoing rumors that something "Metal Gear Remake"-related might be ?in the works at Konami, it's all the faithful fan community needs to hear to get their hype engines up and running.

Rising: Revengeance launched on PS3 and Xbox 360 in February 2013, and sees MGS 2 hero Raiden indulging in a spot of incredibly violent hack 'n' slash action. Developed by PlatinumGames, the spin-of??f adventure features all of the highly adrenalized and ch?aotic combat one would expect from the studio, and is frequently cited as one of the unsung classics of Hideo Kojima's defining franchise.

Is a remake reveal incoming? Or have we all gotten the wrong e??nd of the sword? Time will tell.

Pre-recorded footage used in bonus speedrun

The Games Done Quick (GDQ) team has announced that it has rescinded a World Record run that took place during last week's Summer Games Done Quick 2022 event. The run, which featured hack 'n' slash actioner Metal Gear Solid: Revengeance, has been nullified after the SGDQ r?unner admitted to using footage spliced together from previous offline attempts.

While most of the event's speedruns were showcased on-site, a small handful were held in an online capacity for logistical reasons. A Russian speedrunner tackled Revengeance' "Blade Wolf" DLC as part of a vie??wer donation bonus incentive, and proceeded to achieve a world-best clear time in the process. However, the player has since confessed to having faked the feat by simply playing an edited??, pre-recorded video on stream.

//www.youtube.com/watch?v=FlkWSqA4VFU

"The Blade Wolf DLC run incentive people paid for is a pre-recorded, segmented run," confessed the runner to GDQ enforcement team after the event. "I haven't mentioned it anywhere, neither during the submission process or the email I sent to the committee. It was supposed to be a real-time run,?? but I've changed my mind at the last second after switching the saves.?"

"I've done an actual bad thing, and I shouldn't have done?? this on the event... I acted selfishly and I haven't put more time thinking about others. I am sorry for doing the thing I've done. Truly."

The GDQ team has since removed the run from its YouTube archive and banned the player from participating in future GDQ events. Despite the honest confession, GDQ seems to believe that it was understood by the player that the subterfuge would not be publically oute??d by the GDQ team. This, obviously, has not been the case.

//www.youtube.com/watch?v=T_Ui0Sk1DAM

"This is absolutely unacceptable and attempts to undermine the integrity of the speedrunning community that we love and support," wrote the team in a statement to PCGamesN. "The exact result they desired was unclear from the document, but it is clear that they believed we would not be willing to speak out about their behavior. However, we believe it is ??in the community's best interests to kn??????????????????????????ow why this run was removed by GDQ. We have removed [the player's runs] from our YouTube archive, and will not permit him to run in the future."

Summer Games Done Quick 2022, returning to the Double Tree Hilton in Bloomington MA for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic forced the events offline, saw some of the fastest and finest players in the world gather together to smash through a huge catalog of new and classic video games. When the curtain fell on Saturday, the event had raised an incredible $3.01 million USD for charity Medecins Sans Frontieres. You can check out (almost) every run from the event on the official GDQ YouTube channel.

The next online GDQ event, Flame Fatales, will take place between August 21-27.

I demand Revengeance

A building-high mural, painted in England to celebrate the launch of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, has finally been removed after impressing city visitors for seven glorio??us years.

The painting of Revengeance protagonist Raiden has adorned the side of Aireside House in Leeds since 2013, when artist collective EndoftheLine was commissioned by Konami to create three separate works in Leeds, Liverpool, an??d London to promote the hack '??n' slash spin-off.

While the London and Liverpool murals were repainted years ago, this giant image of Raiden - in the style of the legendary Yoji Shinkawa - has continued to stand tall over the city's streets. That is until recent weeks when, as noted on Twitter by user @kraker2k, the building was finally repainted.

I personally stumbled across this mural quite by accident in 2017, while visiting Leeds for a fighting game tournament. Having decided to walk to the venue rather than take a cab, I was struck in awe upon turning a corner and immediate??ly coming face-??to-face, (or face-to-ankle) with the stories-high portrait, which hadn't weathered a day from its creation.

It's sad to see Raiden finally vanish back into the shadows, but congrats to EndoftheLine for creating such an impressive and enduring image. For more information on their work visit the official EndoftheLine website.

Zandatsu slash

If you're an owner of a Mac compatible computer and are looking to jump into Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, you've just run out of time. Due to the shortsighted implementation of DRM in the Mac OS port of the title, Rising will no longer work for Apple faithful. The game's DRM required an active internet connec?tion to verify your purchase with a server and the company host?ing that server is no more.

One user on Reddit noticed the issue after he realized there was a Mac port of the game. He figured that since his Mac device was more powerful than his Windows desktop, he'd give the game a shot. As it turns out, the title won't launch since it is trying to connect to a server that no longer exists. As he mentions in his post, TransGaming was the company that worked on the Mac OS port and they are now no longer in the games publishing business (shifting to real estate).

On Steam, the game has had it??s Mac compatibility notice removed to prevent other users from wasting their time. Really, though, Konami could just remove the DRM from its title. I understand they didn't work on that port, but if a pirated version of the game can run on Mac OS X without DRM, it shouldn't be difficult to modify the game when you have the source code.

Make America Great Again

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is now available to play on Xbox One. I honestly don't even need to write anything else, since fans of the game will probably be immediately jumping back into the fray with the sombrero clad Raiden to take out Senator Armstrong on his quest to "make America great again." Honestly, did everyone just forget about Rising when Trump was running for president?

The wacky antics of Raiden aren't the only thing coming to Xbox One today. ScreamRide, a sort of spiritual successor to RollerCoaster Tycoon, is also now ready to play on Microsoft's current box. While I have no qualms with the game, it is an odd ?choice as an Xbox One port exists. I suppose if you happened to buy the last generation version, you won't need to upgrade now.

From Phantom Pain to VR Missions

Oh heck yes Metal Gear Solid VR Missions (PS1) for $3.

The PlayStation Network is having a Metal Gear Solid series sale through April 4. It spans PSP, PS Vita, PS3, and PS4 and, well, the series' life on PlayStation. There's even Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance - Ultimate Edition for $7.50. I still haven't played that game, but I hear it's a??mazing. Hmm.

There are classics, too. Ground Zeroes is $5 though Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain is only down to about $40. Peace Walker is $10, but you might as well get it packed in with the HD Collection for $20, unless you're looking to play on Vita (not a ??bad idea).

Oh and Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is $10. I kind of want to play it again.

Much less exciting than any of us had hoped

Back in late January an image appeared for a split second during a Sony sizzle reel as part of a Twitch broadcast from Taipei Game Show. The image, a huge number two in what looked like the Metal Gear Rising: Revengence typeface, had a lot of fans predicting a sequel was ?on the ??way.

Unfortunately, acco?rding to Platinum Games, the real expla?nation isn't as exciting.

Apparently the tease was celebrating the two-year anniversary of the title's release. Obviously this d?oesn't mean that a sequel isn't coming, but this is now the official word on that big metallic "2."

A lesson in listening

Hey everyone! Ther?e’s a Platinum ??Games game out on PC! WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?! Well, I guess since this is their first foray into the world of PC ports, it’s probably a good idea to check and see how well they’ve done.

Other companies haven’t done so well in their PC debut, largely due to a complete misunderstanding of the market and lack of continued support. Luckily, Konami and Platinum Games know the value in patches, and have addressed some of the issues in Metal Gear Rising.

Metal  Gear Rising: Revengeance (PC tested], PS3, Xbox 360)
Developer: Platinum Games
Publisher: Konami Digital Entertainment
MSRP: $29.99
Release Date: January 9, 2014
Rig: Intel i7-4770k 3.50 GHz, 8GB of RAM, GeForce GTX 560 Ti GPU

I’ll start with the best news of all about this PC port: the team is listening. When the game launched, it required an online connection to Steam in order to actually play; playing offline was impossible. However, Konami is actually paying attention and has already fixed the issue. With any PC port, ??an attentive team behind the game is critical. Too often do games get a terrible port only to also be ignored after the initial release. If they’re paying attention, any number of further issues could be addressed!

When booting the game up, be ready for some unskippable splash screens of company logos. As of yet, there isn’t even a sneaky edit-the-files way of getting around this, which is a bummer. After that, diving into the video options screen yields some decent results. There are some missing resolution sizes, and for whatever reasons my native desktop resolution simply does not work with Revengeance, forcing me to play at a lower resolution.

If yo??u change the display to one that can’t be displayed,?? the game won’t automatically go back after 15 seconds or so, like most resolution changes. Mashing the escape key will eventually reset the settings, though. Texture filtering, antialiasing, blur, and more can all be customized in the options menu. There is not, however, an option to play in a borderless window or to alter the FOV.

The controls can be almost completely remapped, as the game does not accept extra m??ouse buttons (mouse 4+) as valid inputs. Playing with a keyboard and mouse isn’t bad, though performing the slow-motion slices, where the angle can be adjusted with each slice, is very awkward when using a mouse. The game also has negative mouse acceleration, which means that very small mouse movements will simply be ignored by the game. The game also supports Xbox 360 controllers perfectly fine, though other controllers will require a third party program to use and the button prompts will not be changed on-screen.

The game looks great, especially in motion. With the graphics pushed up, everything is just lovely. In-game, Revengeance runs at a constant 60 frames per second. Seeing as the game moves incredibly quickly at times, the solid graphics and great framerate make Revengeance a wonderfully visual experience.

Considering that the PC version also comes with all three pieces of DLC and Raiden costumes, it’s hard to argue against this port. Sure, it isn’t perfect, with a glaring omission or two and it lacks a handful of niceties, but it has something that many PC ports don’t have -- a team that fixes stuff, opening up the door to more potential fixes in the future. It plays very well on a ke?yboard and mouse or an Xbox gamepad, so take up your weapon of choice and get slicin’.

Online requirement was just a mistake

The PC port of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance launched this week with a few issues, most notably its resolution capping out at 1080p, less-than-ideal mouse controls, and the fact that it wasn't playable offline. Whoops. What was initially tho?ught to be always-online DRM has turned out ??to be unintentional.

The issue has already been addressed, according to PlatinumGames creative producer JP Kellams. If that alone was holding you back from playing Revengeance, go ge??t this excellent action game. Even with t?he other problems, PC gamers seem to be eating it up.

I particularly liked this Steam user review: "Throwing a gian?t robot into a building, then cutting it into a million pieces while epic music plays... 11/10 Woul?d cut again."

Durante strikes again, but Konami has the next move

The clever coder "Durante" who has been "fixing" the available resolutions of games like Dark Souls and Deadly Premonition following their release, has now turned his attention to the recent PC port of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. Posting to NeoGAF, Durante claims to have worked around the 1080p resolution cap the game presently features, including a 4k resolution screenshot of the title screen.

The fix has not been released to the public yet, and Durante suggests that he may not bother to dev?elop it to a release-ready state, as he expects Konami may patch the game themselves to allow for resolutions above 1080p.

While I certainly appreciate the w?ork of Durante and people like him who offer to do things to improve gaming experiences that the game's developer chose not to do for whatever reason, I'm torn over whether it's ultimately a good thing. When an infe?rior product enters the marketplace, it should suffer for that inferiority and put the publishers and developers in a position to where corners are not cut in future product releases.

If modders were simply fixing these things for themselves and leaving it at that (which, in fairness, is the case right now with Revengeance), that market force can remain intact. But in our connected age of distribution, public release of consumer-created patches takes the onus of addressing dissatisfied ??market segments off of the developer.

"Sure," the executives will say, "it comes with a bit of gnashing of teeth? from that segment, but they aren't that big yet and one of them will fix it anyway."

It's ?not that these patches will make developers lazy and cause them to relea??se bug-riddled games with the expectation that a community will rise up to fix them. My concern is that they can have a chilling effect on progress. The Consumer Electronics Show happening this week had a lot of focus on 4k displays as the future, and that does seem inevitable. How fast that future comes will rely in part on the availability of content which takes advantage of these higher resolutions, and as long as someone keeps rising up to address the desires of early adopting users, the profit-minded people really responsible for the product don't have spend time thinking about them.

Some significant savings

The PC version of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance will finally arrive in a few weeks, and Steam began offering pre-orders earlier today. Afterwards, the savings drop to 20% off, where it will ??remain until the game releases on January 9, 2014.

I very much enjoyed my time with Revengeance, though I never did go back for the DLC content. Still, when I feel the urge for some slashy-slashy action, it's probably the g?ame I'll pull off the shelf for the foreseeable future. Hell of a l??ot of fun.

Without a doubt one of the premier action titles this year, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance will be coming to PC with DLC included on January 9, 2014. The game's already listed on Amazon for p??r?e-order and is expected to appear on Steam proper tomorrow morning.

Here's where things get fun. For 48 hours, Revengeance will be reduced to $19.99. As such, you'll want to kee??p an eye out for the game to surface tomorrow. Really,?? this is worth getting and at such a smart price point, it's easy to rationalize buying the title a second time.

[Update: Konami has announc??ed that both DLC packs are now free to download on Xbox Live and the PSN.]

While I wouldn't enthusiastically recommend either pack, I can easily recommend the base package of Rising proper, which is one of the best action games I've ever played. As for the PC version of Rising, Kojima says the port is still truckin', although we have no real ??concrete release info yet.

Essentially, it's the Game of the Year Edition

Despite the fact that Platinum Games has never had a Game of the Year style re-release, and the fact that Konami as a whole isn't big on immediate re-releases, a Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance Ultimate Edition has just been announced f?or the PlayStation Network.

It comes with the core game, as well as the Jetstream and Blade Wolf DLCs, the free VR Mission pack, the Cyborg Ninja skin (previously only available to pre-orders), the Metal Gear Solid 4 Raiden skin, and the Commando, White, and Inferno skins. The pack is only available on the PSN at this time for $74.99, according to Ko??nami.

We've contacted Konami for more d??etails, specifically regarding a possible Xbox 360 release.

Platinum Games finally comes to PC

Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima has announced that Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance will be ported to PC, something many of us desperately wanted but didn't realistically expect to happen g?iven developer Platinum Games' history.

There are no real details other than that to go on yet, but we know how terrific Revengeance was on consoles and this is quite ??the score for PC gamers. Dreams can come true, it would seem.

Finally, some gameplay

We already know that the Blade Wolf DLC for Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance will be released on May 14th (May 15th on the PS3) for $6.99 (560 MSP), but now we have actual gameplay by way of a new Konami trailer. From the looks of it, the Blade Wolf will have access to stealth kills and the zandatsu technique. If you aren't keen on having things spoiled, I'd avoid the trailer from 1:55 onward, as it shows off the "new boss enemy" that will headline the DL?C.

Rising is one of my favorite games of the year, and this time, I hope the DLC delivers. With a cheaper price point and promises of actual ne?w content, I have higher hopes for Bl??ade Wolf.

The AI strikes back

Platinum Games is back for round two of their DLC offerings for Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, as Blade?? Wolf is set for a May 9th release in Japan, with an inevitable?? international date to follow soon.

An international price point hasn't been officially announced yet, but it seems as if this will cost $10 -- the same as the first DLC. It's hard to tell from the screenshots, but it seems as if the DLC will deal with the?? same Blade Wolf model as the core game, in a flashback of sorts that deals with his time with the evil Desperado regime.

After the fairly disappointing Jetstream Sam add-on I have higher hopes for Blade Wolf, given the fact that right off the bat, it's obviou?s that he'll have his own unique playstyle. I just hope his adventure doesn't almost entirely consist of re-used assets -- because based on the screenshots, I see a lot of the same areas.

Rock and roll with your nemesis

[Update: it's 800 MSP ($9.99) and you can find it here on Xbox.com]

It appears as if Konami is springing the Jetstream Sam DLC pack for Metal Gear Rising on us this week with little to no fanfare, as it comes out...tomorro?w for both the Xbox 360 and PS3 platforms. ?;

You'll take control of Raiden's desperado samurai nemesis Samuel Rodriguez as you embark on a new adventure. Based on the screens revealed so far, it looks like?? you'll be exploring past locations for at least a portion of the DLC -- I just hope there's new content here.

There's no current pricing scheme outside of the rumored $6.99 price point, but you can expect our review shortly after launch to give you a heads up on whether or not it's worth picking up. In the meantime, you can bone-up on your skills with our guide.

Why "too short" is rarely a valid criticism

I was recently listening to a keen little gaming podcast done by some friends of mine, when they got on the interesting topic of what common game review critique they would outlaw, if possible. After a bit of thought, they unanimously agreed that they were tired of baseless complaints about game length, something I definitely a?gree with.

Now it’s worth noting that videogames are definitely a unique media, with few rules of thumb regarding p??roper length. With a movie, you expect 90-120 minutes of entertainment; with a book, you expect 80,000 or so words.

With a game though, you might get anything from five decent hours to a few hundred, depending on the genre. This is why it can seem confusing when a reviewer mentions a game is “too short.” Heck, even our own score guide specifically mentions that a game which is otherwise solid could be knocked down from ‘Great’ to ‘Good’ due to its brevity, again, with no fi?rm rule regarding what the proper length might be.

It seems that, most often, the issue of? game length is related to p?rice. After all, videogames are expensive, and to justify that expensive purchase you want something that will occupy a good deal of your time. That being said, this pursuit of value has led some people to the misconception that longer equals better.

In fact, this unfortunate belief seems responsible for convincing many developers to artificially pa??d their games with content, adding repetitive missions and lackluster multiplay?er modes so that players get the extra hours of playtime they demand.

Resident Evil 6 would've been better as a shorter, more polished experience.

Thing is, the time developers spend on adding additional hours of content often would’ve been better used polishing up the core experience. Resident Evil 6 is one game which seemed to suffer greatly from its desire to provide hours and hour?s of content.

Though the promise of four different campaigns looked great on back of the box, in reality we got four sloppy action shooters which barely did justice to the already tarnished Resident Evil legacy. It seems obvious Capcom would’ve been better off devoting its resources to one solid 10- to 12-hour campaign. Many recent games seem the victim of a similar desire to go overboard with content, one reason I’m quite pleased that Irrational Games scrapped Bioshock Infinite’s planned multiplayer mode, wisely choosing to focus on making the? single-player as strong as possible.

On another note, as much as I enjoy a good epic 40-hour-plus quest now and again, I am a grown man with a variety of adult responsibilities, which means I actually tend to prefer something a bit more bite-sized. For instance, I recently purchased Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, and though we’re not even through March yet it’s definitely a contender for my personal game of the year award. Its campaign is only about 6-8 hours long, but that time is packed with more nonstop ??action than any other game I've played in a long while.

This boss fight would not be any better with an extra hour of hallways before it.

Still, even though Revengeance has gotten almost universally positive reviews, I still see users commenting that they would never pay $60 for a game of this length, something which concerns me greatly. Its length is something I actually think Platinum Games shou??ld be commended for, as the studio could’ve easily thrown together some uninspired and repetitive levels to make the game feel longer. Instead the developer focused its effort on making a game so incredibly fun to play that there’s almost never a dull moment.

A lot of the complaints I see about shorter games also seem to forget to factor for their replayability. It was just five minutes after beating Revengeance that I jumped ?back in on a harder difficulty, eager to unlock the remaining VR missions and max out Raiden’s various stats. Shorter games give you a chance to actually master their content, and it feels awesome to re-challenge old enemies and bosses now knowing how to handle whatever they might throw at you.

Not every game can be as huge as Skyrim, nor should we want that.

Point is, a game’s length is perhaps the least important factor to consider when judging its quality. If gamers choose only to purchase the games which promise epically long campaigns, you can be sure we’ll be seeing more and more titles jammed full of lazy, uninspired content, while superb action titles like Revengeance fall by the wayside. There is room in this ind??ustry for both sixty-hour epics and six-hour romps, and pretending that the "longer equals better" mantra is valid can only hurt us in the? long run.

Here's some of the Jetstream Sam DLC in action

After the free PS3 Metal Gear Rising VR missions, more DLC is ready and rarin' to go later this year. Specifically, the Soul Snake sword weapon, Bladew?olf missions, and an all new set of missions featuring Raiden's nemesis, Jetstream Sam.

Based on these new screens (especially the ones taking place in the Japanese village), it seems as if Sam will be doing at least some retreading of Raiden's steps from the core campaign.  It also looks like he has access to Raiden's zandatsu technique, and Sam will have his own? set of VR Missions to play (with at lea??st one sidescrolling stage).

Tons of confirmation all at once! Expect my? impressions when it drops sometime in April.

Metal Gear Rising + American Psycho = YES

Metal Gear's Raiden may be part mach??ine, but that doesn't mean he can't lead a peaceful life of solit?ude and introspection up in his penthouse apartment. But something about fruit just sends him over the edge. Literally.

No lie, this video is amazing. Brandon Laatsch of freddiew organized this whole shebang and even managed to get Quinton Flynn, the actual voice of Raiden, to reprise his speaking role. And Raiden is ??most definitely the perfect cyborg Patrick Bateman.

The first 30 VR Mission DLC for Revengeance came out yesterday for free on the PSN, but the other packs are coming in April. Both of them? will be available for $6.99 on the 360 and PS3.

The first pack is called "Jetstream," which allows you to take control of Sam, Raiden's rival. Th?e other will be a side story featuring Blade Wolf. The packs are said to feature "multiple hours of gameplay and unique abilities, while expanding their storylines and origins."

I'm ??not expecting the world from these packs in terms of deep stories, but I'm sure they'll be extremely fun to play. Expect our impressions in April!

VR Missions, and Soul Snake Wooden sword

The upcoming free 30 VR Mission DLC pack is on the way for PS3 owners, but that's not the only add-on on the horizon for Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance.

In addition to the PS3 exclusive content, there's also the wacky Soul Snake Sword, and extra campaig?ns starring Sam and Blade Wolf.

For those of you who are curious, Konami has jus??t put up a trailer showing off the new VR Missions and the Soul Snake Sword. It's in Japanese, but apparently Snake's voice is cont?ext sensitive, which should make for some awesome Easter egg style experimentation.

Remember that promise to PlayStation 3 players of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance that they would receive exclusive VR missions as downloadable content? And no, not that other DLC that was announced.

Well, starting next Tuesday, March 12, they will be available to you as a free download all the way through April 3. Featuring the look of the original VR missions from Metal Gear Solid (read that again, seriously), the pack will include 30 brand-new missions that feature unique challenges. Maybe you'll need some tips to make sure your skills are up to par?

Oh, if you've yet to pick up the game, you can now buy the game on PlayStation Network for $59.99. If that's your thing, of course. Anyway, I'm assuming there's nothing stopping me from just jumping on PSN and downloading this myself next week, you know,  just in case I do ever pick it up on PS3. If I can't, I'm pretty sure this will be coming to Xbox at some point anyway as a paid download. That's how these types of things usually go these da??ys.

Cats. Who doesn't love them?

As many of you may recall, the demo for Metal Gear Rising Revengeance had a solitary cat that many of you referred to as "Ninja Cat." That was only one of many?? adorable creatures that were supposed to be in the game o?riginally.

Above, compliments of Platinum Games, you'll find a video showing off just how many feline friends were going to join Raiden on his adventures, intermitt?ently throughout the game. In the end, Platinum only went with Ninja Cat, who is impervious to Raiden's ninja skills or attacks. Maybe it's for the? best.

Over 330,000 copies sold

Famitsu has last week's sales numbers for Japan, and there we see that Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance comes out on top with a really nice first-week run. Konami and Platinum Games' excellent cyberninja slashfest moved a healthy 335,791 copies in the Land of the Rising Sun last week. This is a number that compares favorably to the first week sales numbers of the last couple of numbered Metal Gear Solid titles.

Last week was a good week to come out for them. None of the other new releases last week were that big of a deal (Desert Kingdom, anyone?), and mega 3DS titles like Dragon Quest VII: Warriors of Eden and the new Animal Crossing have had some time to cool off, though the lat??ter hit the 3 million sold mark? last week.

Congrats, Platinum Games. I expect that we'll see your latest continue RISING up the charts in the coming weeks.

Metal Pervert Rising

When you put Platinum Games and Hideo Kojima on the same project, wackiness is bound to happen. One of the most peculiar things in Metal Gear Rising comes from slashing civilians' clothe?s off. Funny enough on its own, but even funnier whe?n Raiden's comrades offer their dissenting opinions of his fetish.

Though, I enjoyed the video more before Conrad (who reviewed the title) put things into context for me. Glad to see a little God Hand is still in Platinum Games' blood.

A Solid Snake Sword, playable Sam, and Bladewolf

As if Metal Gear Rising wasn't packed with enough content already, we now have word on a few extra bits of content heading to the game at ??????????????????????????some point in the future.

First, there's confirmation of a side-scrolling beat 'em up VR mission that has Raiden going full fis??ticuffs, in addition to a Dwarf Gekko-centric mission.

The next bit is a DLC weapon called the "Soul Snake Wooden Sword," th??at has the soul of Solid Snake embedded in it, and speak?s Snake's voice when you use it (crazy!) -- it'll come with the VR Mission pack.

Lastly, there seem to be two extra missions involving a playable Sam, one of the main antagonists of the game, and another involving the Bladewolf, Raiden's trusty robot?? sidekick.

Right now there is no word on whether or not this is PS3 exclusive like the select VR Mission DLC. If you're having trouble with the core game still, check out my guide!
