Via a new Metal Gear Solid Delta promotional video, Konami just laid bare one of Metal Gear Solid's greatest mysteries for all fans to see. After two decades of speculation, Metal Gear Solid fans all around the world recently received confirmation that the actress who played Eva in Metal Gear Solid 3 wasn't really the actress Suzetta Miñet. Why? Well, because that per??son doesn't even exist and was likely made up by the patriots (citation needed).

//youtu.be/iDIWFh7nYa4

The real credit actually Jodi Benson, the same actress who'd voiced Ariel in Disney's The Little Mermai??d over 35 years ago. The explanation is rather simple. Benson built most of her career around family-friendly properties, so playing a highly sexualized role in a very violent game could jeopardize that.

That’s cool, especially as this piece of news comes just a little after we learned the identity of the actress who'd played Jill Valentine in the original Resident Evil ?an even longer-standin??g mystery for fans. Still, there’s another really cool mystery few people even know about.

If you enjoy the series but don't consider yourself a true fan, it's possible you've witnessed the spectacular performances of James Flinders, Carren Learning, Mae Zadler, and wonde??????????????????????????red why they never did anything else after that game.

Well, that's because even though the original Metal Gear Solid completely chang?ed what voice acting meant for games, its actors originally forfeited r??eal credit.

The original Metal Gear Solid was really cool for showing the voice actor’s name when introducing a character on screen, too bad those names were fake. Aside from David Hayter ?who was mainly a screenwriter and not a voice actor before the game ?few (if any) voice actor is given credit for their work in the game. That's because all the real actors such as Cam Clarke and Debbie Mae West are union actors who feared the dangers of entering the then still-legally grey area of video game voice acting. Things had already changed by the time Metal Gear Solid 2 came out, and all of its actors are properly credited. Good, but I like to reminisce of a time when actors in a spy thriller went?? method to the point of even using silly-so??unding fake identities.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater will release on February 27th, 2025, for the PlayStation 5, Xbox S?eries X|S, an??d PC.

When Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater first captivated th?e world, it left behind a mystery that many players have attempted to solve. It all concerned the likeness of our favorite motorcyclist, EVA, a key character who somehow never got a voice actor reveal.

As we approach the release of Metal Gear Solid Delta, the time has finally come for us to put this mystery to bed. The MGS Legacy Part 3 unveils that Jodi Benson, the notable voice actor behind Ariel in The Little Mermaid, is, in fact, the voice of EVA. As someone who's been an EVA stan since the early days of MGS3, I'm both surprised and delighted, especially as a fan who grew up on The Little Mermaid films.

//www.youtube.com/watch?si=KIWLRMypYp82h-RV&v=iDIWFh7nYa4&feature=youtu.be

But now, you might be wondering: Why did it take almost two decades for this to be revealed? Fortunately, Jodi answers this question right at the beginning of the Anniversary episode. She starts by stating, "Just, the various projects that I am affiliated with in my career ar?e sort of family-based, children-based, things like that." Given that Benson was prominently known for her Disney films and other family-based content, her part as EVA seemed a bit too risqué at the time. Let's not forget that the first few minutes of this character's introduction involve a spicy unzipping scene, which, of course, isn't the most family-friendly.

Jodi then says, "So, it was actually Kris Zimmerman Salter. That was our director, that she kind of sat down with me, and she's like, 'Maybe we need to change your name.'" This is where the pseudonym Suzetta Miñet was born, a title that started many EVA voice actor subreddits. When I was a kid playing MGS3, I remember seeing this name and having it go complete??ly over my head. I had no idea that it was all a part of an elaborate plan to keep EVA's voice actor? a secret.

The choice to go with Suzetta Miñet was also discussed, as Benson indicates that it was actually an ode to her dog's name, Suzette Monet, growing up. Even though the pseudonym had pretty much kept EVA's voice actor a mystery, there were? still plenty of theories surrounding Jodi Benson. So now, those fans who got it right can finally rest easy after all these years.

The rest of the Metal Gear Solid Legacy Part 3 series continues with a conversation between Jodi Benson, Lori Alan (The Boss), and David Hayter (Snake). This video offers a ton of interesting deep dives, including one part where Jodi and David explain how they did their famous love scene. It's essentially just them kissing their own hands, which is something I never would have expecte??d, even though it does make the most sense.

If you're a big Metal Gear Solid 3 fan, you should definitely give this one a watch. The nostalgia train is going at full speed, and it's wonderful to see the actors speak so? highly of the characters I love.

Konami recently unveiled a lot of information about Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater during Tokyo Game Show 2024, including an exciting new trailer and a fascinating gameplay demo. However, this remake still doesn't have an official release d??ate yet.

As reported by on @Genki_JPN Twitter/X, during Konami's presentation, the game's producer Noriaki Okamura apologized for this lack of information and clarified that he and his team don't want to make any promises that they can't keep. He also confirmed that they are working har??d on the game and asked fans to "please wait a little longer".

After all, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is a remake of the original 2005 game, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, which is often considered to be one of the best and most accessi?ble entries in the entire franchise. So there's definitely a lot of pressure on Okamura and his team to deliver a product that is of equal high quali?ty as the original PS2 title. However, based on all the recently released images and videos, it seems like the project is going in the right direction.

Will Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater even come out in 2024?

After it's initial announcement on May 2023, most fans speculated that Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater was most likely going to come out in 2024. On top of that, PlayStation later released a video that clearly labeled MGS Delta as one of its "Upcoming Games in 2024". However, 2024 only has 3 m?onths left before it ends and, without a concrete release date set in ?stone, it's most likely that the company already has plans to delay it to 2025.

It's important to keep in mind that the most recent entry in the series, the spin-off Metal Gear Survive, came out more than 6 years ago, in February 2018. Not to mention that the last Hideo Kojima-directed Metal Gear game, The Phantom Pain, came out 9 years ago, in 2015. Based on their responses on social media websites like Reddit or Twitter/X, it is evident that fans can patiently wait a few more months fo??r the release of such a highly-anticipated remake.

A new trailer for Metal Gear Solid Delta dropped at the Xbox Games Showcase over the weekend,? and, while it did show off more gameplay and treated us to the sound of Naked Snake's original voice actor David Hayter, it sadly lacked an exact release date. The following day, though, retailer GameStop advertised the game as launchin?g in November, but it has since admitted this isn't the case at all.

In a now deleted Twitter post from June 10 (which was saved for posterity by IGN), GameStop announced pre-orders were available for Metal Gear Solid Delta, with it scheduled to release on November 17. The deletion of the post made it clear this was done in error, and the official GameStop Twitter account has now clarified the date was never accurate to begin with. All it's said is that "Our previous pre-order post on Metal Gear Solid Delta had an incorrect release dat?e," and any details about its launc??h will be shared by Konami.

//twitter.com/GameStop/status/1800544610139131931

On one hand, that November 17 launch did seem very unlikely. After all, that's a Sunday, and video games typically don't come out on Sundays, probably because everyone has to go to work or school on the Monday after, leaving them less than a day to play their shiny new game. However, a November 17 release wouldn't have been too far-fetched since that's the same day the original Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (which Delta is a remake? of) launched in North Americ?a back in 2004.

A November 17 launch would've been quite fitting and a neat way of celebrating the original game's 20th anniversary but, unless Konami says otherwise, Delta will more than likely not release on a Sunday. So, when will it ??launch? I personally think it could be out this fall or maybe even closer to Christmas. However, there's always a chance Konami will opt to delay it and push it into 2025.

Funnily enough, this isn't the only game from the Xbox showcase to see its release date shared, only for it to be deleted soon afterward. Fantasy RPG Avowed, which only has a vague 2024 launch window, was said to launch on November 12. Unlike the Metal Gear example, this came straight from Avowed's developer Obsidian Entertainment in a blog ??post, but it was quickly updated to excise the date.

Hideo Kojima is well known for making games with grand political statement hidden not so subtely within their dialogue and cinematics. As of today, players can also enjoy one of these long, drawn-out narrative stealth games within the comfortable confines of Minecraft textures and flavor text.

Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater is, in my opinion, the greatest game in the Metal Gear Solid franchise. It added a manual camouflage system and on the fly medical treatments consisting of bugs, twigs, and whatever else is lying around in the jungle. Its plot perfectly sets up every other game in the series, and its gameplay manages to pull back the futuristic stealth tactics to a more grounded level that makes them feel incredibly tangible. Using the Metal Gear Solid 3 Crafted Edition mod, the game can now also be an insane yet hugely enjoyable amalgamation of Cold War action and Minecraft nonsense.

The Metal Gear Solid 3 Crafted Edition mod was officially released on March 1, 2024. Creator Avaresst has been sharing a promotional trailer for it over the last 24 hours that highlights some of the best changes it makes to? the base game. As someone who knows the original game inside and out, this had me laughing all the way through, and I don't think I could take playing the mod for more than ten minutes because I'd get nothing done.

//twitter.com/avaresst/status/1763654119993053658

As you can see from the trailer and official page, the mod doesn't change everything in the game. Instea??d, it alters specific bits and pieces that tastefully alter the experience in such a way that it's funny all the way through. The humor catches you off guard, turning any tense moment of steal??th into a ridiculous meme to be shared online with friends.

The key changes Metal Gear Solid 3 Crafted Editio?n makes are sweeping ones to camo and character textures, cutscene dialogue, code sprites, various UI e??lements, level textures, food textures, weapon textures, and so much more. The cutscene dialogue tickled me a lot in particular because it's done in such a way as to feel serious and maintain the tone of the scene while the words characters are saying are absolute nonsense.

Hearing The Boss talk about claiming the title of "Blocks" and facing an existence of endless griefing both ruins and heightens the end boss fight for me. What makes it even better is that the ori?ginal voice actor for The Boss, Lori Alan, voiced these new lines. Avaresst was able to get her to record them for the project, which mak?es it almost canon in my eyes.

Don't get me wrong, I'm very much looking forward to the Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater Remake first shown in last year's Xbox Preview showcase. But being able to replay the game in its current form and still find surprises in 2024 is a joy. I think what makes this mod look so good is that every change is tasteful. It doesn't wholesale alter a game and wash its hands of the ?work. Each tweak is purposeful and designed to make hardcore players like me with hundreds of hours in it take note and nod in appreciation.

It was recently brought to people's attention that the Master Collection of Metal Gear Solid was near unplayable on Steam Deck. Fortunately, Valve ??has been quick off the mark, and a fix is rolling out.

According to a recent Twitter/X post from Pierre-Loup Grifais ?coder for Valve ?a hotifx has been deployed. This should tend to the crashing issues people have been having with both Metal Gear Solid 2 and Metal Gear Solid 3.

//twitter.com/Plagman2/status/1717569353691037909

As is often the case when it comes to the Steam Deck, the problem appeared to be related to compatibility is?sues with the device's operating system. This new patch ?sent out literally moments ago ?addresses issues with Proton, the Linux-based software the Deck is built around.

What was the problem?

In a recent report/video from GamingOnLinux, the recent release of the first three Metal Gear Solid entries were shown to be not suited for the Deck. While MGS runs fine, it seems to maintain its old-school 4:3 aspect ratio, and the game is locked at 30fps. This may not be an issue for some, but others may take exception t??o the sizeable black bo??rders and lower framerate.

However, at least it was running on the device. The same could not be said for the second and third games, neither of which would play at all. Both Sons of Liberty and Snake Eater were crashing to the Steam Library, m??eaning they couldn't be played at all.

Given the popularity of the classic Metal Gear Solid games, it's not surprising Valve was pretty quick to act. Hopefully, MGS2 and MGS3 should run now, as the update's purpose is to "address a blocking cras???h in cutscenes." At the time of writing, a fix for the missing audio in cutscenes is still being worked on.

SNAAAAAAAAAKE!

Today is the 35th anniversary of one of the most influential, genre-defining, and beloved franchises in video game history, Metal Gear. That's 35 years of crawling around in military bases??, dodging spotlights, hiding in the backs of trucks and under boxes, and sitting through seemingly endless codec conversations about what date it is. And it's been one hell? of a journey, I'm sure you'll agree.

While Konami has not seen fit to do anything interesting with the license since series creator Hideo Kojima left the company, the publisher has announced that it is preparing to re-launch some of the series' M.I.A. titles, that were discontinued from sale back in November 2021. At the time, Konami noted that there were licensing issues due to the use of real-life documentary footage in certain ga??mes, that the publisher was hop?ing to renew.

In a tweet posted earlier today, Konami noted that the delisted titles would be returning very soon, though it chose not to mention any of the specific games themselves by name. Is this all we will be seeing in regards to the iconic franchise's anniversary year? Quite possibly, while Konami is wont to hang on to the brand for obvious financial gain, the studio seems increasingly uncomfortable with the idea of producing new titles with Kojima being a key player in the title's developm??ent. Happy anniversary, please buy these games again. Kind of an anticlimatic anniversary.

Regardless, ?here's to the 35th birthday of an undeniable, indelible, 100% ?genuine game-changer.

This feels very wrong

Sometimes, in the effort to go fast, we don't ask if we should go fast. Case-in-point: a newly discovered Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater glitch that, when properly executed, skips it??s infamous ladder sequence.

MGS3 and Tomb Raider speedrunner "apel" showcased the glitch on social media today. They approach the ladder, flipping through th??eir menu as they go. Then, at the base, they do some wall-hugging, followed by a few menu selections.

Then, suddenly, Snake T-poses and rockets towards the camera. Rather than put hand over hand, foot over foot as the Snake Eater theme echoes throughout the maw??? below, he simply ascends.

//twitter.com/apel__/status/1513870004898484229

You can find the clip on Twitter here, and also on YouTube. In a follow-up tweet, apel clarifies that any three food items will work for the trick. It doesn't have to be snakes. They al??so say this is currently only possible in multi-segment runs, though the??y emphasize "currently."

Not for honor, but for you

I'm happy for the speedrunners, but wow. I did not know a man rocketing up a tunnel in a T-pose could make me feel emotions about the song Snake Eater.

The ladder sequence is probably one of the most famous parts of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, a game chock full?? of incredible moments. It's?? haunting, beautiful, and bizarre.

//www.youtube.com/watch?v=I8pg2XoQTlA

When speedrunners have showcased MGS3 at events like Games Done Quick in the past, the ladder sequence has always been a fun lull. Maybe there will be a Snake Eater incentive at future events?

Silly qualms aside, it's always cool to see runners and glitch-hunters find new ways to break games. Sometimes, even casual players and streamers accidentally find new ways to go fast. And following the som?etimes-rap??id evolution of runs is always a good time.

The ladder may be skippable, bu??t it will never be for??gotten.

The company is apparently ramping up its premium game production

Konami might be working on reviving some of its big franchises. A new report from VGC says that Konami is ramping up development on new projects within the Metal GearCastlevania, and Silent Hill series, including a Metal Gear Solid 3 remake.

According to VGC's sources, the first of Konami's new projects will be a new Castlevania game described as a "reimagining" of the series. It's reportedly in inte?rnal development at Konami, with support from local external studios.

Virtuos, which has supported work on a number of games including Horizon Zero Dawn and Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, is also reported to be working on a remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. In Eurogamer's writeup of the news, their sources suggest Konami has been considering a new version of Metal Gear Solid 3 "for some time."

VGC also reports that multiple Silent Hill games are currently in development at various studios, reiterating a report from earlier this year. Speculation at ?the time pointed to horror game developer Bloober Team, though VGC's report was unable to confirm it.

Konami's recently renewed game output has been interesting to watch unfold. The publisher did recently release the Castlevania Advance Collection, bringing some beloved games forward to new platforms. (And doing it pretty well too, it seems.)

But its recent launch of eFootball 2022, the successor to the PES series of soccer titles, has been pretty rocky. I'm sure fans are pretty interested in seeing some of these series return in some form or another, and this re??port will definitely stoke those flames a bit more.
