If you've been holding out—and I have to be honest, missing out—on playing developer Wrong Organ's psychological-horror title Mouthwashing, well now you have no excuse. Publisher Critical Reflex announced today that Mouthwashing will be heading to PlayStat??ion 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch later this year.

The unique horror game that uses nostalgic PSX-style visuals to tell the haunting tale of the doomed crew aboard a space freighter called the Tulpar was released on Steam in September 2024 and has sold over 500,000 copies on the platform. According to Critical Reflex, fans interested in a physical edition on the PS5 or Switch will have the opportunity to snag one through Fangamer.

Honestly, Mouthwashing is one of those games that that least you know going into it, the better. If you're a fan of psychological ho?rror games ?that are a bit out there in terms of narrative and setting, you won't find a better example. However, if you want to have somewhat of an idea of what to expect, here is the premise:

In Mouthwashing you explore the story of a dying crew aboard a shipwrecked space freighter hauling mouthwash across the expanse of space. You'll switch between various crew members in first-person as you explore what caused the shipwreck as well as what has transpired since, all while trying to come up with a gameplan. The ship will only stay powered for a few months, and food will run out well before then. But at least there's mouthwash, right? For the most part it's a narrative-dr??iven experience, and one well worth experiencing.

If you’ve got the stomach for some disturbing space horror, Mouthwashing will have you covered on September 26, 2024. It’s coming to PC.

That’s exciting. Y’know, in an “I can’t wait to be existentially distressed�kind of way. Did you play the demo? I can’t see this one having a happy ending. It’s about a crew of five people stranded in space after a disaster upends their long-haul delivery mission. The captain has been left immolated and is dubiously alive. Supplies are low, and chances? of rescue are slim. Everybody hates each other, and these contents are under pressure.

The crew decides to open up the cargo h?old and find stacks of boxes packed with bottles of mouthwash. High in both sugar and ethanol, great for what ails you. The game jumps around back and forth in time, and nightmarish sequences are interspersed throughout.

The scariest part, though? Each time the scene transitions,? the game looks like it glitches out, and the audio hitches like your computer i??s crashing. It got me more times than I want to admit.

This is all based on the demo, by the way. Anything could have been changed by no?w. However, it was a ridiculously effective demo, which is still available if you want to try it out. Its audio-visual tricks just make things all the more uncomfortable. It doesn’t matter if a monster shows up at that point. The isolation of the ship, the people inside, and the vast vacuum around it are scary enough.
