The first season of Stranger Things was released back in 2018, and it quickly became something of a phenomenon. You could barely move without encountering some kind of Stranger Things merchandise, book, or even a musi?cal that’s still being perfor?med now.

It’s hard to believe that it’s been nearly nine years since we were first introduced to Mike, Dustin, Will, Lucas, Eleven, and the rest of the now iconic characters that are the center of the Stranger Things univers??e. But it has, and we haven’t yet had the final fifth season, so has ?Netflix dropped the ball and left it too long?

Now hear me out, I’m not saying that the final season is going to flop, and I’m also not saying this out of a dislike of the show. I’ve got merchandise and books dotted around the house, I’ve binged every season on release day, and I even went to the Stranger Things Experience ??while visi??ting Las Vegas in 2023.

But thanks to COVID paused production of season four and delayed release, and the WGA Writers Strikes in 2023 that effectively did the same thing to season five, by the time the final season comes out, there will have been two seasons in six years. With a ?year confirmed canonically between each season, this causes an issue for the characters? and their actors.

When the first season came out,? the main cast was all approximately the same age as the characters they portrayed. Take Finn Wolfhard, who plays Mike. During filming for season one, he was 12 years old and playing an equally 12-year-old character. While filming season five, he’s 21 years old and playing a 16-year-old.

Image via Netflix

Maybe we need a better example. It happens all the time in Hollywood, with older actors playing characters much younger than themselves. Hell, in Bridgerton, Penelope is played by an actress a w??????????????????????????hopping 20 years older than the character. But it gets more questionable when you take characters like Steve or Erica.

Where Stranger Things left off in season four,?? with the Upside Down seeping into Hawkins, Steve was 19 and Erica was 11. Even taking into account the now conf?irmed one-year jump between seasons four and five, Joe Keery (who plays Steve) will be 32 playing a 20-year-old, while Priah Ferguson (who plays Erica) will be 19 and playing a 12-year-old.

Image via Netflix

The actors have aged by three years for each of the last two one-year time jumps, leaving them wildly ahead in terms of age compared to their characters in the ?show. What makes this so noticeable is the fact that we aren’t being introduced to them at this stage, we were introduced to their much younger faces and are now expected to believe that they have somehow come out of the other side of puberty while still in the midst of their teen ?years.

Perhaps I’m looking too much into the details, but with a show that reportedly has a budget of around $30 million per episode, the details deserve to be looked into.

Any show that has been ongoing for almost a decade will have built up an absolutely rabid community of die-hard fans, and despite what I’ve already said, I count myself among those fans when it comes to Stranger Things. We’ve all been waiting for the conclusion of the gang's story since season four ended on such a cliffhanger back in 2022, and even if we’ve grown tired of the wait, we’ll still sit down on release day and cement Stranger Things as the most watched show ??on ?Netflix for a time.

On the plus side, we do have a window for when to expect Stranger Things season five, if you can call it that. On November 6, as part of ?em>Stranger Things Day? Netflix released a tease??r trailer which provided all eight episode names, which also confirmed that season five will be coming at some point in 2025:

//www.youtube.com/watch?v=h-2LIjOt0rA

Previous seasons have been released at any point between May and October, so there’s really no telling when season five will finally be available to watch on Netflix. Whenever Netflix posts about Stranger Things on Twitter or other social media, there is an ever-growing number of people venting their frustration at th??e delay. While it’s not the fault of the show's writers or producers, it is getting tiresome.

There’s going to need to be some se??rious story-telling in season five to explain why this group of trouble??d sixteen-year-olds have five o’clock shadows, or why Jonathan suddenly looks more like Will’s father than his brother. Or perhaps we’ll just be expected to overlook these small details, and appreciate the fact that we finally get to see how it ends.

Image via Netflix

I?? guess you could put the character’s rapid aging down to the stress they’ve been through over the last five years of their lives, and explain it away that way. I’m sure any of us would have more than our fair share of wrinkles if we’d encountered the ??horrors that these guys have seen. If that’s the lore I have to tell myself in order to get through the final season and see how everything ends, then that’s precisely what I’ll do.

Regardless, I’ll still be watching with everyone else when Stranger Things season five comes to Netflix in 2025, probably completely forgetting my current concerns. Stranger Things is like that, I suppose. Disbelief and immersion breaking details go out of the window when you’re embedded in the story of teenagers destined to save the world from the demon spawn of the Upside? Down.

The first act of Arcane's second and final season is coming to Netflix on November 9, 2024. Riot Games, in celebration of Arcane's end and the beginning of their League of Legends expanded universe, dropped?? a cracked trailer recounting the events that led us to this epic finale.

Arcane Season 2's latest trailer is a we??ll-edited, neon-dipped love letter to the series' colossal fandom. It reminds us why the first season is so beloved? while building hype for the last emotional chapter of Violet and Jinx's story.

Arcane Season 2's new trailer recounts the tragic tale of Violet and Powder

The latest teaser for Arcane's second season knifes at the heartstrings right out the gate, bringing us back to where the series began. Through some top-shelf editing, the trailer ebbs and flows between past and future, reminding us of who each key player in Arcane was before they, or the world, made the decisions that transformed them into the people they are. As has always been the case, though, everything in the trailer rolls back to Violet? and Powder.

//www.youtube.com/watch?v=JpQOtc-YgUY

Arcane has always been about Violet and the girl once known as Powder. The fiery tragedy that first tore these once-loving sisters apart remains one of the most traumatic scenes I've ever watched, and the events that unfolded after the first season's six-year time skip systematically carved up any hope I and millions of other Netflix viewers had that they could ever mend their relationship. Cities clashed, magic spiraled out of control, and a fandom ship set sail before Arcane Season 1 closed, but the story always found its way back to Violet, Jinx, and the shattered bon??d that once tied them together.

Based on what we've seen from its trailers, Arcane Season 2 will pick up where the first season left off. In case it's gotten hazy over the last two years, Arcane Season 1 ended with Jinx launching a Hextech-powered rocket into the Council of Piltover's chambers, presumably killing eve??ryone inside and plunging the city into war with its ?subterranean neighbor, Zaun. This explosive finale left plenty of lingering plot threads drifting in the wind, and it looks like this season aims to tie them up.

From Heimerdinger's new alliance with Ekko and the Firelights to the all-but-confirmed revelation that Violet and Powder's foster father, Vander, has become LoL's Warwick, Arcane Season 2 isn't short on exciting directio??ns its story could go in. I'm just as interested to see what the writers will do with Violet's relationship with Caitlyn, personally.

Arcane Season 2's c??reative team is splitting the season into three acts for reasons that will hopefully make sense once they arrive on Netflix. Each act will come out on a different date, one week apart. Act 2 will drop on November 16, 2024, while Act 3 will go?? live on November 23, 2024.

The Amazing Digital Circus, the indie animated? web series that completely took off, is touring through a streaming service near you. This ??is not a digital hallucination, folks: Glitch Production's unhinged horror dramedy is coming to Netflix this October.

Glitch Productions' indie animated smash-hit will hit Netflix right after the newest episode's YouTube premiere

News of this show-stopping turn of events comes straight from Netflix itself. On an announcement page posted on their Tudum website, Netflix outlined that all three episodes of The Amazing Digital Circus will be available for streaming on October 4, 2024. Glitch Productions confirmed their new partnership with Netflix in a heartfelt post on their official YouTube page and X account, thanking viewers for their support while confirming that new episodes of The Amazing Digital Circus will ??premiere on YouTube before they become available on N??etflix.

October of this year is the perfect month for The Amazing Digital Circus to take such a spectacular, dare-I-say acrobatic leap forward. Not only will this October mark the series' official first anniversary, but The Amazing Digital Circus' horror-themed third episode will hit YouTube on October 4th. 2024. The undercurrent of horror running beneath The Amazing Digital Circus' cut??esy aesthetic has always been part of the series' appeal, so why not lean into it by having the show hit streaming w?eeks before Halloween?

Some of The Amazing Digital Circus' fans aren't happy the show's coming to Netflix

Fans' response to The Amazing Digital Circus' impending Netflix debut has been pretty positive. Fans have filled the comments secti??ons of Glitch's announcement posts with compliments and well wishes for the series animators, writers, and voice actors. However, some onlookers aren't as thrilled by the news.

Less-than-happy responses to The Amazing Digital Circus' jump to streaming are popping up all over social media, but r/TheDigitalCircus on Reddit seems to be their most prominent congregation spot. Many of th?e show's fans have expressed skepticism and dismay over the announcement. Some take issue with Glitch's decision to keep The Amazing Digital Circus exclusive to YouTube. Others have expressed concern that Netflix will exert creative control over the series or, worse, cancel it like they have other an??imated series.

Fortunately, Glitch has been pushing back against the idea that their deal with Netflix cost them even an ounce of creative control. Glitch and Gooseworx, The Amazing Digital Circus' showrunner and lead animator, have confirmed that the deal they stuck with Netflix is purely about licensing. If what they're saying is true, the show's still being funded by merchandise sales through Glitch Production's online store, so Netflix has no leverage over it.

Speaking for myself, I'm incredibly excited about this. The Amazing Digital Circus is a prime example of indie animation's potential, and it's fantastic to see a big-name streaming service pick it up. If the series does well, other animated pilots like Lackadaisy or Ramshackle could also find their way onto streaming se?rvices. Glitch has said they want to put indie animation on the map, and with this deal, the?y've made much progress on that front.

The first season of My Happy Marriage was an instant h???it when it was released on Netflix back in July 2023, quickly working its way into the hearts of viewers. It’s an incredibly touching story, and the anime is coming back for a second season in January 2025.

//youtu.be/xB0C3Sjynk8?si=Zd29VJTzjrjoKldB

There’s something special about watching someone realize their worth when they’ve been downtrodden their entire life, thanks to mistreatment from others. It’s something that I can heavily relate to myself, and I know a lot of others can likely say the same. My Happy Marriage takes this concept up a notch.

Season one of My Happy Marriage saw Miyo, a girl who thought that she wasn’t worthy of love, betrothed to th??e somewhat grumpy and hard-shelled Kiyoka, whose previous fiancées had fled within three days? of meeting him. Over the course of the season, we saw her determination slowly win over his heart and, eventually, love blossomed.

Of course, there were plenty of trials and tribulations faced by the couple, but there will likely be more to come in the second season. Miyo, wit??h her Dream-Sight ability, will come face to face with Kiyoka’s mother for the first time, something which apparently doesn’t go smoothly judging from the tease??r released by Netflix.

Here's a teaser from the press release: "In the second season, the battle over the 'blood of the Usuba' that flows through Miyo enters a new phase, with their love put to th?e test. Will these two be able to fully protect the happiness they have finally grasped in their hands?"

I have complete faith in the pair's love and dedication to each other, and I fully believe that together they can get through anything, but it’s sure to be a bumpy ride. Episodes will be released weekly, so there’s going to be some nail-biting time between installments as? we wait to see what happens.

Netflix recently released an exciting new trailer for its upcoming Devil May Cry animated series that will premiere in April 2025. However, fans immediately noticed that Dante's voice sounded different from the games, where R??euben Langdon usually voices him.

After people asked Netflix about this on its social media, the compa?ny officially confirmed that Dante will be voiced by none other than Johnny Yong Bosch, who voices Nero in the Devil May Cry video game??s. Howe?ver, Reuben Langdon did step up to show his approval of this new casting.

//twitter.com/ReubenLangdon/status/1836955740361064676

Langdon congratulated Yong Bosch on his personal Twitter/X account and remarked that he's already part of the Devil May Cry family, referencing his previous work as Nero in DMC4 and DMC5. After all, this young devil hunter is Vergil's son and Dante's nephew, so it's quite reasonable for Netflix to cast Yong Bosch as a younger version of Dante from a separate universe.

Yong Bosch responded to Langdon's blessing, by telling him, "You’ll always be my Dante", which proves that things are definitely quite amicable between the two actors. This interaction has endeared most fans and made them receive the sudden recasting in? a ?more positive manner.

The Devil May Cry franchise is prone to recastings

Screenshot via Netflix/YouTube

The sudden replacement of Langdon as Dante is nothing new for the Devil May Cry franchise, seeing as he's not even the first person who voiced this character: Drew Coombs voiced him in the first game, Matthew Kaminsky in the second game, and Langdon took over the role from Devil May Cry 3 onwards. This isn't even the first time in recent years that someone else voiced Dante, with Jacob Browning voicing Dante in the mobile game, DMC: Peak of Combat.

There's no denying that Langdon's performance as Dante is incredibly recognizable and beloved, but since this is a character who is prompt to changing voices, this recasting should surprise no one. Not to mention that Yong Bosch's excellent work as Nero has already proven that he's more than fit to take up the mantle and breathe new life into this iconic devil hunter in the proces??s.

Last September, Eiichiro Oda himself announced that Tony Tony Chopper will appear in season two of N??etflix's live-acti??on adaptation of One Piece. Now, the streaming giant posted a video that finally revealed how this iconic character will look, and fans have responded very positively to it.

As part of its Geeked Week event, Netflix published a video of the main cast of One Piece doing a table read of season two's script. At the end of said video, Iñaki Godoy (who plays Monkey D. Luffy) says, "I can't believe who is her?e to make their debut in Season 2". The camera then turns to reveal Tony Tony Chopper sitting on the table, although the audience can only see his back and the top of hi??s head, including his antlers and his iconic pink hat.

It is immediately evident that Netflix brought Chopper to life with CGI, and the design showcased in this first look is surprisingly faithful to the source material. This reveal got quite a positive reception from fans on social media, who? praised Netflix for seemingly doing the chara?cter justice and claiming that they can't wait to see how his face looks. Many people even compared him to the main character of the film, Detective Pikachu.

The other big reveal regarding Netflix's One Piece during Geeked Week was the official announcements of the ?actors portraying Miss All Sunday and Mr. 0 (better known as Nico Robin and Sir Crocodile) in season two.

Lera Abova, a Russian actress and model who made an appearance in the show Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin, will play Robin, and Joe Manganiello, an American actor who played Flash Thompson in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man and Deathstroke in Justice League, will play Crocodile.

Both actors too??k the stage during Netflix's presentation, and fans are evidently satisfied with the casting. Chopper, Robin and Crocodile will make their long-awaited debut in One Piece season 2, although Netfli??x still hasn't confirmed an off??icial release date.

Netflix has dropped a new "Special Teaser" for the upcoming Squid Game: Season 2, and the roughly one-minute video actually gives us quite a bit of information about the upcoming season. If you want to go into Squid Game: Season 2 completely blind when it drops on December 26, you might want to skip it. But if you're like us and looking for any more Squid Game go??odness, he??re's what we've gathered from the teaser.

//www.youtube.com/watch?v=1GqzyjUbT4c

Return of Gi-hun (and Player 456)

Even though Squid Game: Season 1 ended with the main character Seong Gi-hun planning to head to the United States and never return to the madness that is Squid Game, we quickly realize that's not the case. Even though Squid Game: Season 2 takes place three years after Gi-hun won Squid Game, in the teaser we see Gi-hun once again waking up in the infamous room full of stacked bunk beds with other contestants which confirms what many have suspected: For one reason or another, Gi-hun is once again a contestant in Squid Game.

Oh, and he's once again rocking the Player 456 jumpsuit. Assuming the second season's challenge also consists of 456 players like the first, that makes it highly unlikely that Gi-hun just so happened to randomly get the number in back to back Squid Games. And in the teaser, Gi-hun wakes up in the room of beds seemingly surprised to be there. So what does this mean? It's highly likely that someone—perhaps even the Front Man, In-ho??, from Season 1—is messing with Gi-hun for some reason.

However, it's also possible that the teaser is intentionally misleading its viewers into thinking Gi-hun is surprised to be there. Perhaps Gi-hun has intentionally returned to the game with the goal of seeking revenge, or perhaps Gi-hun has returned to the Squid Game in the?? role that Oh Il-nam, the old man, played in Season 1: not as an actual contestant, but a?? "hidden player" for one reason or another.

Plenty of New Games

As expected, it looks like the contestants in Squid Game: Season 2 will have some all-new games to endure for their chance of winning 45.6 billion won. Throughout the teaser, we get?? brief flashes of various game rooms and challenges that are taking place, including once again an arena of sorts with a retractable roof hidden amongst the treetops of a remote island.

One of the flashes we see is a dirt or floor with two big rainbow circles on the ground, with contestants pouring into the game room from a single door. It's way too early to tell, but some of the new games even appear to be inspired by games from the original Squid Game season like "Red Light, Green Light" and even the final challenge, aptly titled Squid Game.

Second seasons are always very hit or miss, but it at least looks like Squid Game: Season 2 is similar enough to Season 1 that fans wanting more should be happy. We'll know more soon as Squid Game: Season 2 is set to release on Netflix on December 26.

Black Mirror, Charlie Brooker’s dark anthology series, is returning for its seventh in 2025. Netflix is sharing more details on th?e season as part of its Geeked Week, ?and theyre very exciting for long-time viewers.

Black Mirror has been a personal favorite since season one, and the series always shoots straight to ?the top of the “most watched?list on Netflix whenever a new season airs.?? Although we don’t have a confirmed release date yet, we do know a little more of what to expect, and who’s making an appearance among the cast of season 7.

Sequels, the final frontier

First and foremost, just to get this out of the way right now, "USS Callister" is indeed getting a much-hoped-for sequel episode in season 7. Although no details have been given, Brooker and the creative team behind Black Mirror h??ave confirmed that one epis?ode will be a direct follow-up to season 4’s opening episode.

"USS Callister" immediately became a fan-favorite, and hopes for a sequel ha??ve stirred ever since season 4 aired in 2017.

In case you haven’t watched it (in which case you definitely should), "USS Callister" is centered around Robert Daly. He’s a gifted programmer who, out of frustration through what he feels is lack of recognition, sets up a Star Trek-esque simulation and things soon start to go wrong, in true Black Mirror style, for everyone involved. It’s worth watching?, regardless of the pro??mised sequel.

Stars are already signed on for Black Mirror season 7

The cast list for season 7 was revealed?? in the above “data drop?asset, although I’d be really impressed if you managed to see all the names that featured. Just in case you were unable, here’s the list in a much more permanent format:

  • Awkwafina (Jackpot!)
  • Milanka Brooks (Mum And I Don’t Talk Anymore)
  • Peter Capaldi (Criminal Record)
  • Emma Corrin (Deadpool & Wolverine)
  • Patsy Ferran (Firebrand)
  • Paul Giamatti (The Holdovers)
  • Lewis Gribben (Blade Runner 2099)
  • Osy Ikhile (Citadel)
  • Rashida Jones (Sunny)
  • Siena Kelly (Domino Day)
  • Billy Magnussen (Road House)
  • Rosy McEwen (Blue Jean)
  • Cristin Milioti (The Penguin)
  • Chris O’Dowd (Bridesmaids)
  • Issa Rae (Barbie)
  • Paul G. Raymond (Horrible Histories)
  • Tracee Ellis Ross (Black-ish)
  • Jimmi Simpson (Westworld)
  • Harriet Walter (Succession)

These are the lead cast members, but there will be others who appear alongside those already named. I’m excited to see what role Peter Capaldi plays, and Chris O’Dowd has been a personal favorite of mine ever since The IT Crowd, so?? this definitely has served to stir up my excitement for?? the upcoming season 7.

World War I history enthusiasts, young adult literature readers, and anime fans have something to look forward to next year. Scott Westerfield's alternate-historical war novel Leviathan is getting an ani?me adaptation, and it debuts on?? Netflix in 2025.

Leviathan puts a bio-punk and diesel-punk spin on World War I

If you haven't read Leviathan and its two sequels, let me give you a quick sum-up. It's 1914, and the flames of World War I have just started burning across Europe. This isn't our great-great grandparents' World War I, though; in Westerfield's reimagined 20th-century Earth, the forces of the Allied and Central powers wage war against?? each other with bio-engineered beasts and diesel-fueled automatons.

The story of Leviathan follows two protagonists: Aleksander of Hohenburg, an Austro-Hungarian prince forced to flee his homeland after a failed attempt on his life, and Deryn Sharp, a London girl who disguises herself as a boy so she can enlist in the Royal Air Force. Fate brings the two together on the back of the Leviathan, a living cetacean battleship, and they embark on a journey that changes the course of the war and?? history.

Studio Orange brings the world of Leviathan to beautiful, Frankensteinian life

I have many thoughts about the anime industry's recent shift toward 3-D animation, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't like what I saw in Leviathan's first trailer. Orange Co., Ltd work on Beastars and Trigun Stampede demonstrated the studio knows how to capture the primal ferocity of nature and the complex allure of technology. Leviathan's pages are chocked full of high-flying bouts between monsters? and machines, and I'm curious to see what Orange does with some of the series' most i?conic battles.

Whatever lingering fears I had about the effort being up into Leviathan vanished like diesel smoke when I ran down the list of names attached. Christophe Ferreira, who worked as an animator on Persepolis and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, sits in the director's chair. Justin Leach (Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence, Star Wars Visions) and Taiki Sakurai (Eden, Cyberpunk Edgerunners) serve as producers. Joe Hisaishi, the composer b?ehind the soundtracks of almost every Studio Ghibli movie, will provide the music, and that??'s about where I fainted.

Leviathan's offers a fresh path forward for YA adaptions

Deryn Sharp poses in front of her mirror, disguised as a boy.

I'm still wrapping my head around the fact that a Leviathan adaption of any kind is happening, let alone one its creators seem to be invested in. Unless their name happens to be Harry Potter, YA speculative fiction series tend to get the short end of the adaptation stick. My therapist and I are still grappling with my memories of watching Fox's Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief in theaters, and that's just one of many medio??cre?? YA film adaptions I've sat through over the years.

By embracing the animated medium, Westerfield has proven that YA book-to-film adaptations don't have to limit themselves by following in the Harry Potter movies' footsteps. I can't wait to see what the people over at Qubic and Orange do with the Leviathan trilogy, and I'm even more excited to see if other YA authors decide to dabble in animation. Maybe I'll get that Fablehaven animated ser?ies twelve-year-old me dreamed about, ??after all.

Netflix just dropped the latest trailer for Arcane Season 2, and I'm not sure I'm ready for it. The first season of this fantasy-steampunk was my favorite watch of 2022, and it looks like the second will be just as beautiful,?? thrilling, and heartbreaking as its predecessor.

Arcane Season 2 puts Vi and Jinx on a colorful collision course

Clocking in at two minutes and twenty seconds, the trailer doesn't leave much room? for you to breathe.

//www.youtube.com/watch?v=hsffPST-x1k

Arcane Season 2 picks up where the first season's explosive cliffhanger left off, with the cities of Piltover and Zaun plunging into an all-out civil war. With ??their respective stakes firmly in the ground and their sisterly bond shattered, Jinx (Ella Purnell) and Vi (Hailee Steinfeld) are all but destined to lead their respective factions into battle. Oh, and the magic that powers both cities' technology is apparently "waking," so the world may be on the verge of an arcane apocalypse.

Arcane Season 2 is already a work of art.

Arcane's first season gave me many reasons to love it, but I fell hard for its incredible animation. The team at Fortiche Productions, helmed by directors Pascal Charrue and Arnaud Delord, produced one of the most beautifully animated television series ever drawn. Colorful and textured, Arcane's art style is objectively gorgeous, but it also contributes to the story, helping to tell the tragic tale of the estranged sisterhood at Arcane's center.

Based on the trailer clips, Arcane Season 2's animators are dialing everything up to eleven. Colors pop with even greater ?intensity than in the first season, with Jinx's iconic powder bombs painting Piltover in rainbow hues during one scene. The all-black Hot Topic-adjacent outfit I saw Vi sporting at one point tells me that darkness will cut deeper this season. In a series revolving around ?class unrest, a contrast in the color scheme speaks loudly without uttering a word.

Vi staring into the mirror in her new, dark outfit, bloodied and angry.

Arcane Season 2's animation will also continue the first season's habit of hiding blink-and-you'll-miss-it bits of foreshadowing between frames. Fans on Reddit already have caught one particularly grim hint towards the potential fate of Heimerdinger, a ch??aracter we got to see in action during a sneak preview we?? got back in July. I'm still combing through the trailer for plot details, and I expect fans will find more in the coming weeks.

We've known from the moment its first trailer dropped that Season 2 will be Arcane's last, and as much as it breaks my heart to see the series g??o, I'm glad it's going out with such a bang. When the war between Piltover and Zuan starts on November 2nd, I know exactly where I'll be.

In what will likely be the most memorable moment of Gamescom Opening Night Live, a very emotional Tim Miller, co-founder of Blur Studios and director of Deadpool, has shown of footage of the upcoming Amazon Prime video game anthology series, Secret Level. This is coming so fast, but I definitely saw Mega Man in there.

Secret Level is supposedly a series of original short narratives set around various video games. It’s an incredibly eclectic mix including Armored Core, Sifu, and Spelunky alongside more mainstream stuff like Concord and God of War. Maybe also Pac-Man.

There's also Mega Man, but he's doing that really cliche gear-up sequence. Like, it's so ubiquitous that Doom Eternal even opened with it.

//youtu.be/gLihxsmI_OU?feature=shared

I am entirely unable to process what’s going on. I’m not sure if there’s some sort of metanarrative here. As I mentioned, it’s reportedly going to be a series of short narratives (via Deadline), but the sizzle reel doesn’t exactly clarify that.

The introduction by Tim Miller was especially interesting. I mentioned to my colleagues that he sounded like he was on the verge of tears before he seemed to break further and admit his emotions. Some sound?ed cynical about the sincerity, but as a prolific crier, it seemed genuine. Listen, it’s sometimes easy to get emotional about stuff. I can cry pretty easily on some days. Dude might just really love showing off his team’s efforts.

Secret Level airs December 10, 2024 on Amazon Prime.

Netflix has finally revealed the teaser trailer for Tomb Raider the Legend of Lara Croft, starring Hayley Atwell. After two different iterations of flesh and bone Tomb Raider on the big screen, fans? can now catch a glimpse of what Netflix's adventures of Lara Croft in animated format will look?? like:

//www.youtube.com/watch?v=kLYZKVlgaUU

For the sake of clarity, it's important to note that the series isn't based on Tomb Raider: Legend. The Legend Of Lara Croft takes place an unspecified amount of time after the events of Shadow Of The Tomb Raider, the final game in the rebooted "Survivor Trilogy". Legend Of The Tomb Raider will seemingly try to bridge the gap betwe??en the latest games, where Lara goes on adventures with her friends, to the classic Lara, who searches for the most perilous situations all on her own.?

While Netflix hasn't advanced much about the plot yet, we know things are pu??t in motion once one of Lara's artifacts gets stolen from the Croft Manor. There's also the introduction of a grey-haired man who's likely? connected to Lara's past, or perhaps to the past of her family, but we're yet to learn more about him.

Though the emphasis here will be on the most modern version of Lara, it doesn't look like fans of the old games will be left completely out to dry, as a? few references to the classics can be spotted in the tra??iler.

It really doesn't look like it will lack fan service, as this teaser seems to even pick up on the more horror-oriented direction for the series that the developers had at some point considered taking.

The trailer a??lso shows various different set pieces featuring some really promising animation, with the scene where Lara escapes a flood on her motorcycle really catc??hing my eye.

Can Netflix pull off Tomb Raider?

Tomb Raider adaptations are yet to reach a level of quality that leaves both fans and regular moviegoers completely satisfied. It's a tough job, as isolated exploration and platform jumping are what put the ser??ies on the video ga??me map, but that just doesn't translate very well into blockbuster action.

Still, Netflix has hosted some excellent, and certainly harder to adapt, animated series with the likes of Castlevania and Arcane; heck, this Tomb Raider comes by way of Castlevania studio Powerhouse Animation. This is probably the best bet we have in the realm of possible Tomb Raider adaptations. Tomb Raider the Legend of Lara Croft will be available on Netflix on October 10.

Squid Game proved to be something of a surprise worldwide hit when it released on Netflix back in 2022. Once the show wrapped, viewers were left practically begging for ?more and now, finally, we know when more is coming.

Squid Game Season 2 will debut on Netflix on December 26, 2024. There's some pressure for the sequel, of course, but also apparently quite a bit in store. "I do have a lot on my shoulders," Director Hwang Dong-hyuk ??told Netflix in 2023. "But I’ll make sure it’s worth the wait."

//youtu.be/JMQ7CwfecJE?si=vyVUwhshEbQJ1Uil

Season two will pick up the story three years after the culmination of season 1, with the crowned winner of the season Seong Gi-hun (played by Lee Jung-jae) focusing on his endeavor to take down the organizers of Squid Game.

Armed with his hefty amount of winnings, Gi-hun will set out in search of the man playing ddakji on the subway, only to find that he’ll need to step back into the dark world of the Squid Games if he wants to end them onc?e and for all.

A lot of familiar faces will be back for

There’s a long list of returning faces coming back for Squid Game Season 2 alongside Lee, including the following:

  • Lee Byung-hun (Hwang In-ho, the overseer of the games)
  • Gong Yoo (The salesman who recruits participants for the games)
  • Wi Ha-Jun (The detective from season one)

But of course, with a lot of the familiar ??faces from Seaso??n 1 being dead or having moved on from their harrowing experience, there’s a long list of new faces coming to Season 2 as well.

And that’s not all. On top of the news that Season 2 will be coming on December 26, we also now know that Season 3 is now confirmed to be arriving in 2025. The third season will be the last one, according to Netflix, so the story will be a?ll wrapped up within the next couple of years.

If you're a part of the Final Fantasy XIV community, you've likely heard of Maidy. If you don't recognize that name immediately, then you'll surely have heard of the Netflix series “Dad of Light.”?/p>

What started out as nothing more than a method to obtain a two-seater Chocobo from the Recruit a Friend Campaign soon became something so much more. Maidy began documenting this journey in the form of blog posts, detailing his e?xperiences alongside his father.

In the end, Maidy's Father of Light project became a heartwarming tale of connection and mending fractured familial bonds before it's too late, with Eorzea serving as the backdrop to this father and son bonding experience. Those blog posts, read by millions, caught the attention of Netflix and were t??urned into a docu-drama featuring both real-life acting and scenes brilliantly shot with nothing except vanilla gameplay footage.

Sadly, Maidy passed away in December 2020 after a battle with bowel cancer, something which has evidently had a lasting impact on producer and director of FFXIV Naoki Yoshida, and his father more recently passed away in January 2024. As such, neither of these two incredible people got to see one of the latest NPCs added to Final Fantasy XIV with Dawntrail

Warning: spoilers for late-game Dawntrail below.

Gone, but never forgotten

If you've made it to Solution Nine, I urge you to go to (X:17.0, Y:13.5). Here, you'll fi?nd a very familiar NPC sitting on a bench who can't be interacted with or targeted. This character is modeled after Maidy's own Miqo'te, albeit in updated clothing and graphically improved.

Now, while this NPC is heartwarming enough alone, it's an absolute tearjerker when you take into account one of the core messages from the Dawntrail MSQ. It's a sentiment first mentioned by the Yok Huy in Urqopacha, then echoed later in?? the story by Sphene and her quest to protect the Endless from being erased - death is not the end, and as long as you're remembered, you'??re never truly gone.

Maidy as he appeared in the Netflix docu-drama Dad of Light

Coupled with th?at, this NPC is wearing a Regulator, which, according to Lore, can revive anyone who has fallen to accidental death by imbuing them with a recycled soul cell. Sadly, even the lore details th??at these souls cannot be used to resurrect someone who has succumbed to illness or old age, but the sentiment is still touching nonetheless.

Maidy is now immortalized in the game which he loved so much and brought him, and his father, so?? much joy in their adventures. He will never be forgotten, and his legacy is now set in metaphorical stone. Truly, the epitome of Endless.

It's going to be quite a while until we see anything of season 2 of the live-action One Piece show. At the time of? writing, filming should have only just started, but there are a couple of details about it that have been confirmed: which new villains Luffy and his crew will be facing, and who is playing them.

While there are no story details about season 2, it sounds like it will fittingly be adapting the Alabaster Saga (the manga/anime's second major story arc) since it will feature members of that saga's main antagonists: a criminal syndicate called Baroque Works. The syndicate is comprised of a lot of characters, but Variety has shared casting details on four of its higher-ranking members, who long-time fans of One Piece should be plenty familiar with.

//twitter.com/onepiecenetflix/status/1805586801031032960

First is Daniel Lasker, whose previous credits include a recurring role in sci-fi drama series Raised by Wolves, as the princely and slightly flamboyant Mr. 9. Second is Camrus Johnson, who played the superhero Batwing in the Batwoman TV show, as Mr. 5.

Third is Jazzara Jaslyn as Miss Valentine, Mr. 5's partner in crime. Jaslyn has appeared in several other TV shows, with her most prominent roles probably being in thriller series Lioness and the third season of martial arts crime drama Warrior. Last but not least is David Dastmalchian as Mr. 3, perhaps the most sadistic and twisted of these four villains. Dastmalchian has a lot of credits to his name, including Polka-Dot Man in 2021's The Suicide Squad movie and the lead in 2023 supernatural horror Late Night with the Devil.

It remains to be seen if other top members of Baroque Works will make an appearance, such as its two leaders: Mr. 0 and All Day Sunday. Without giving too much away, those two characters play very important roles in the original manga and anime, so their presence in the Netflix show feels like a guarantee. Whether or not they appear in season 2 depends on what Netflix's plans for it are.?? It may just cond??ense the Alabaster Saga into a single season, or perhaps it'll let the saga run into season 3 as well (assuming it gets renewed for another season).

The Alabaster Saga is considered by some to be one of One Piece's best storylines, in part because of its v?illains, so there'll be high expectations for how Baroque Works is depicted. I'm especially interested to see how the show will handle these villa??ins' powers as well. No spoilers for anyone who's only watched the Netflix show, but these bad guys have some interesting and dangerous abilities that should up the stakes. The original manga and anime saga also allowed each member of the Straw Hat Crew to shine in their own individual fight scenes, so here's hoping the Netflix show offers something similar.

The Thursday Murder Club, the massively succe?ssful novel by Richard Osmon, is getting a movie adaptation. The film doesn't have a release date just yet, but it's?? got its cast all set, ready to take the story from page to screen in style.

The Thursday Murder Club is the first book in the so-far four-book Thursday Murder Club series and revolves around a group of c??rime-fighting old-age pensioners who all reside in the same luxury retirement complex. As such, it should come as no surprise that t??he majority of the currently known stars are on the older side, staying true to its source material.

On his Podcast, The Rest is Entertainment, ??Osmon detailed that Elizabeth Banks will be played by fan favorite Helen Mirren, someone who many fans have shouted at Osmon in the streets as their casting choice, as he?? went on to say in the episode of the Podcast.

Alongside Mirren, the following incredible line-up of stars are joining the cast of The Thursday Murder Club:

  • Pierce Brosnan as Ron Ritchie
  • Sir Ben Kingsley as Ibrahim Arif
  • Celia Imrie as Joyce Meadowcroft
  • Naomi Ackie as Donna de Freitas
  • Jonathan Pryce as Stephen Best
  • David Tennant
  • Daniel Mays
  • Henry Lloyd-Hughes

While it hasn’t been confirmed as of yet which roles the final three names on this list will play, there’s no arguing that this is a very exciting line-up. On the latest episode of The Rest is Entertainmant, Osmon said that this might be the “greatest British cast since the Harry Potter movies? and I ha?ve to admit I can’t?? find any reason to disagree.

Away from the cast themselves, the power behind The Thursday Murder Club is also pretty impressive. The Netflix movie will be written and directed by Christopher Columbus, of previous Harry Potter and Home Alone fame, while?? the movie rights belong to?? Amblin Entertainment, led by Stephen Spielberg.

Filming is set to begin this summer, with a hopeful release date at some point in 2025. As a fan of the books, I’m really impressed by this line-up and hopeful that the screen adaptation of The Thursday Murder Club will do the books justice.

The Overworld, a realm that has captivated our world through Minecraft's various iterations, is now set to make a significant leap into our screens. With the Minecraft universe brimming with a wealth of content, the possibilities for the a??nimated series are endless. It could delve into the enigmatic lore that the community has meticulously dissected. Perhaps it could unravel the origins of the Mobs or unveil the mysteries of the Netherworld. Personally, I'm intrigued by the prospect of exploring the genesis of the Overworld, a realm that the base game doesn't explicitly delve?? into.

Or, we could get an epic, adventurous tale like Minecraft Dungeons, where the main protagonist must defeat some big bad. Whichever direction it goes, I wouldn't be surprised to see a star-studded cast along with it. We already know that Jason Momoa and Jack Black will be in the upcoming Minecraft movi??e, so I'm curious to see what other actors Mojang Studios can ?pull for an animated series.

As we eagerly await further details on the Minecraft animated seri??es, we can't help but wonder if a more concrete release date is on the horizon. Then again, the phrase "coming soon" could very well be a harbinger of a delightful surprise, with the series dropping sooner than we expect.

The Netflix YouTube channel just released a teaser that finally reveals Liam Hemsworth in the role of Geralt of Rivia for the upcoming fourth season of The Witcher TV series.

//www.youtube.com/watch?v=kr3br-3i8TY

The teaser only show's Geralt's back, his wolf school medallion, and then his bright face and yellowed eyes. Nothing about his appearance is a departure from the previous look, except for Liam's leaner physique. Some fans might take issue with it, but the costume crew certainly won't, as it will result in fewer costumes ripped apart by a Witcher that's just too buff for them to handle??.

You could perhaps say that Liam Hemsworth's Geralt looks more apprehensive than confident ?unlike Henry Cavill's take on the character. That might be his choice for the role, or a look imbued?? by reality as he knows he has big shoes to fill afte?r Henry Cavill's unexpected firing from the show.

My take? Well, he pulls off the Geralt look, and certainly looks much better than Henry Cavill did in that cheap-ass wig from Netflix's make-up test that somehow ended up as the character's big reveal. Yes, we will never forget.

//www.youtube.com/shorts/ET69EGN9iT0

The big question, I'm afraid, is not whether Hemsworth will look and act the part, but whether he'll go for a new take on th??e character, or try to copy Cavill's outing. Sadly, I believe fans might not be too keen on either. Still, I believe Liam Hemsworth is deserving of a chance, simply for having had the guts to take on the role.

The Witcher's fourth season still doesn't have a release date, but you can play The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, ??Xbox One, Xbox Series ?X|S, Nintendo Switch, and on PC.

Netflix has released some new information about its upcoming Terminator anime series, now formally christened Terminator Zero. Alongside a batch of awesome first-look images, we also have the series' official release date and a brief synopsis of its story. Here's everything we know about Terminator Zero.

When will Terminator Zero be released?

Image via Production I.G

Barring any final-hour delays, Terminator Zero will be released on August 29, 2024. It's a date with an interesting in-universe tie-in, too. Within the Terminator franchise, August 29, 1997, is "Judgement Day," the day the artificial intelligence network known as Skynet is prophesized to ??achieve sentience and unleash nucl?ear Armageddon upon the world.

What is Terminator Zero about?

Image via Production I.G

Like most other entries in the Terminator franchise, the story of Terminator Zero will involve time travel. The series' protagonist, an as-yet-unnamed soldier, travels ba?ck in time to 1997 to protect Malcolm Lee, a scientist wo??rking to create a "benevolent" AI designed to protect humanity from Skynet.

Of course, the soldier'?s job ?won't be easy, as Skynet has sent an "unrelenting assassin" to the past to kill not only Malcolm, but also his three children. Amidst all this, Malcolm will grapple with the complex moral ramifications of designing what boils down to a digitized child soldier, who will bear the brunt of Skynet's malevolence.

Who is making Terminator Zero?

While Netflix will produce Terminator Zero, the series will be animated by Production I.G, the studio behind many iconic anime films and television series, including Ghost in the Shell: Stand-Alone Complex, Psycho-Pass, and Haikyu!!. The series will be directed by Masashi Kudō, who served as the director for the insanely popular anime adaption of Tite Kubo's Bleach.

Mattson Tomlin, who also wrote the script for The Batman: Part II, will write Terminator Zero's script. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Tomlin stated that the series will treat every movie in the Terminator franchise as canon, meaning that plenty of Easter eggs and nods will be peppered throughout Terminator Zero's eight episodes.

Unless you were living under a rock in 2018, you wouldn’t have been able to miss the phenomenon that was Bird Box on Netflix. The movie, starring Sandra Bullock as the wishes-she-were-blind main protagonist, was based on a book of the same name by author Josh Malerman

Here’s the TLDR; the world suddenly becomes host to s??ome form of Creature, one which remains unseen by the audience, which drives people insane, suicidal, and homicidal when sighted. Malorie, havi?ng given birth and also all but adopted another child on the same day (hats off to her, honestly) during this crisis, raises the two children and then takes a blindfolded trip down a river to what she hopes is safety.

The movie doesn’t actually tell us much about the Creatures, leaving it all up to the imagination, which is arguably part of the reason that the movie became as huge as it did. However, as I said, the movie is based on a book (Bird Box, 2014) by Josh Malerman. There’s also a direct sequel novel, Malorie,? which was published in 2019 (??and is absolutely not based in Barcelona).

So, like the ever-diligent researcher I am, I watched the movie (twice), ordered both books and read them in the space of a single weekend to try and fig?ure out some facts about the Creatures. This information is mostly from the books, and there’s some interesting discoveries.

A word of warning, this will feature a lot of spoilers, particularly from Malorie. There’s some parts ??of the movie which were heavily changed from the source material, too, so if anything here doesn’t quite make sense in relation to the movie - that’s why.

They’re described as infinity

Tom in the Bird Box movie
Image via Netflix

This is alluded to in the first book, when Tom is describing what the previous owner of the house, George, saw before he took his own life after seeing one. However, the theme returns much more heavily in Malorie. Without going into too much detail, the? concept is that they are something we are incapable of comprehending, and that itself drives us insane?.

As Gary says in the second book, imagine growing up with no knowledge of the existen??ce of Whales. Seeing one, s?o huge and daunting, would be enough to cause a crack in anyone's idea of reality.

Some people are immune to them

Olympia (the child) in Bird Box, then known as simply 'Girl'
Image via Netflix

In the second book, Malorie, it’s revealed that Oly?mpia (the child) is immune to the effects of the Creatures, likely due to Olympia (the mother) seeing? one while the baby was still attached to her by the umbilical cord.

This means that, for her entire life, Olympia (the child) has been able to?? traver?se without a blindfold, looking directly at the Creatures without any form of madness taking over. This explains the very bizarre moments in the movie which are never explained, and also alludes to a genetic component, which gives hope for the future of humanity in the story's universe.

Some people are also immune based on their level o?f comprehension. This would explain why people with mental illnesses who have a hallucination symptoms can view them without being driven insane - they’re already used to seeing things that they can’t explain, so why would this be any different?

They’re capable of growth and reproduction

Malorie pregnant, before the Creatures arrived in Bird Box
Image via Netflix

Perhaps ‘reproduction?is the wrong word. There are multiple instances in the second book where the Creatures are described as “not necessarily taller than they were before, but wider? and we’re informed as readers that there are three times as many of them as there were during Bird Box

With Malorie being set approximately 12 years after Bird Box, this seems to mean that ??the Creatures are either multiplying, or more of them are arriving from w?hence they came.

Despite the effect they have on humans, they’re not violent

The effect of the Creatures in Bird Box
Image via Netflix

The only cases of purposeful attacks on humans are recorded as having happened in densely populated areas that already had an abnormally high prevalence of violent crime, which says to me that the Creatures were either trying to defend themselves, or they were a scapegoat for other violent acts. As stated in Malorie, “There ??ar??e no verifiable accounts of a Creature forcing a person to look at it?

No, rather than attacking humans, the Creatu?res seem to b?e on Earth more as observers. In the second book, after it’s revealed that Olympia can view them safely, it’s also revealed that multiple creatures have been living alongside Malorie and the kids in the lodge which became their home. Never attacking, never harming, simply watching. Often, the Creatures seem to shy away from human contact as much as we avoid contact with them.

They congregate in densely populated areas, such as Indian River

Indian River, a key location in the second Bird Box novel, Malorie
Screenshot by Destructoid

The eventual destination of the second book, Indian River, is densely populated by a group of people who are trying to find a method to safely look at the creatures while avoiding madness in the hopes of returning to some form of pre-creature normalcy. While traveling on the Blind Train (yes, that’s a thing), the owner tells Malorie that there are far more Cre??atures surrounding Indian River than in any ot??her location in the length of Michigan.

Perhaps this goes hand in hand with the previous fact, that the Creatures are here to observe and are drawn to bigger populations, which would als?o explain why cities were affected first in the first place.

You don’t hear them move, you hear the world move around them

Greg viewing the Creatures on CCTV in Bird Box

In the second book, Malorie, there ?is a list of things that are known about the Creatures. Here’s? what it says:

“They make?? noise, though not traditional sound. There is no flat-footed creak upon floorboards. Rather, it’s as if the floorboards themselves momentarily morph before returning to their natural state?

This suggests that rather than hearing the movement of the Creatures, yo??u hear the world around them adapt to their presence. The grass crunches under their feet, if they have any, rather than the sound o??f that foot stepping down onto the grass.

They aren’t evolving, though people once thought they were

Malorie and the children in Bird Box
Image via Netflix

The second book begins with Malorie and the children at the School for the Blind for two years, and all hell has broken loose after a Creature has managed to get inside. But how co??uld a Creature drive blind people insane? Well, the theory that spread was that the Creatures evolved to ‘infect?by touch.

However, this isn’t the case. It turns out that people were simply pretending to be blind in order? to fit in with the actually blind people around them and not be judged or feared. This,?? in turn, led to hundreds of fake-blind people at the school being driven insane, killing those around them and then themselves.

Malorie, though, believed they could?? infect by touch and went on to wear full body coverings any time she was outside for th??e next ten years. She isn’t happy when Olympia (the child) finally reveals she knew it was unnecessary the entire time.

Blindness is the best protection outside of immunity

The Blind School where Malorie and the children end up at the end of Bird Box
Image via Netflix

This is pretty obvious, but if you can’t see at all, then you c??an’t see the Creatures. This isn’t a fact that isn’t revealed in the movie, however, there is one moment in the first book that I just have to talk about.

Malorie, trying to save the childre??n when they’re babies, actually considers and almost carries out the voluntary blinding of two babies by pouring paint stripper into their eyes. This is possibly the clearest display of the fear instilled in people by the presence of the Crea?tures.

Animals can sense them better than humans

Malorie and a bird in Bird Box
Image via Netflix

While we already know that birds can sense them, thanks to their use as an ala??rm system (which, in the books, only happens while at the house and aren’t taken down the river with them), they’r??e not the only animals who can sense them.

In the first book, not only do?es Jules have his own dog called Victor, but he and Tom (the adult) head out in search of more dogs to act as guide dogs. Dogs, as it turns out, are much more able to sense the presence of Creatures and can help protect humans by altering them if they venture o??utside with blindfolds on.

They can be viewed through two way mirrors

Malorie in Bird Box
Screenshot by Destructoid

Quite how it took 16 years for someone to figure this out, I’m not sure, but in Malorie it’s revealed that Tom (the child) has invented a visor made from a two way mirror which was once in the lodge they stayed in for 10 years. At the end of Malorie, he tests the visor and, as luck would have it, it ?works.

The concept behind this revelation is that by forcing the Creatures to do something we can comprehend and r??elate to, viewing themselves in a mirror and looking within, we can therefore view them without being driven insane from the other side of said mirror. They’re not beyond comprehension, and therefore we?? can begin to understand them.

The global phenomenon Squid Game is coming back for a second season. If you want to know where and when to watch Squid Game Season 2, including its official release window, trailer information, and more, you are in the right place. This is everything you need to know about Squid Game Season 2.

Squid Game Season 2 release window

The Squid Game Season 2 release window is currently set for t?he second half of 2024. There is no exact release date for the series just yet outside of this broad window. If the series happens to follow in the footsteps of the first season, it?? could be released sometime in September 2024 in Korea, followed by an international release. That would be exactly three years after the first season’s debut.

When the second season drops, fans will be able to watch the series on Netflix. Presumably, it will follow in the footsteps of the original and have some of its episodes released initially, followed by a few others in the following weeks. It is uncertain at this time if the second season will have a si??multaneous global release.

Season 2 trailer and cast, explained

As of right now, there is only a tiny teaser trailer for Squid Game Season 2 from Netflix. It mainly focuses on announcing the returning cast members alongside the new additions. In addition to the return of the main character, there are three other returning cast members as well: Lee Byung-hun, Wi Ha-jun, and Gong Yoo. In addition to these four familiar face??s, there is a slew of new characters making their debut in the latest death game:

  • Im Si-wan
  • Kang Ha-neul
  • Park Sung-hoon
  • Yang Dong-geun
  • Jo Yu-ri
  • Kang Ae-shim
  • Lee David
  • Lee Jin-wook
  • Choi Seung-hyun

What to expect from Squid Game Season 2

There aren’t many details available about what the second season of the series will entail. That said, spoiler alert for the end of the first season of Squid Game if you haven’t watched it yet. From what we saw at the end of the first season, the? main character Seong Gi-hun won the titular death game and ended up with a massive stack of money.

However,? he made the bold decision to return for another round of Squid Game, despite learning who is behind it all, which will presumably happen in the second season. Season 2 will likely focus on the new game, participants, and possibly a new winner.

The battle between two of the most impressive fighters in manga and anime history is about to commence. The legendary Baki the Grappler is about to go toe-to-toe with a relative newcomer in Ohma Tokita. The upcoming Baki Hanma vs. Kengan Ashura crossover will see these two fighters duke it ??out to determine the ultimate fighter. Here’s the release date and everything you need to know.

Baki Hanma vs. Kengan Ashura release date, explained

The Baki Hanma vs. Kengan Ashura release date is coming up ?quite soon. Fans don’t have to wait too long, as the release of this monumental anime crossover is set for June 6, 2024. The crossover will be available around the world for everyone to enjoy at once. At this time, it appears this crossover is only happening in anime form. Fans will have to wait and see if a manga version of the event will happen.

Where to watch Baki Hanma vs. Kengan Ashura

When the Baki Hanma vs. Kengan Ashura crossover happens on its release date, fans will be able to watch it on Netflix. Netflix is producing the film and it appears to be an exclusive for the subscription ??platform. Thankfully, the anime crossover will be available worldwide on the same release date and presumably in multiple languages for fans to check out.

The crossover between the two f??ighters will happen in the form of a Netflix anime movie, instead of the usual episodic series these two are known for. As such, fans will presumably be able to watch the entire movie and find out without having to wait for another movie or episode who is the fighter that will come out on top between the two legends of the are?na.

What to expect from the Netflix crossover anime film

Baki Hanma vs. Kengan Ashura is exactly what it sounds like: the epic crossover between two of the most prolific fighters in manga and anime history. On one side of the arena, there will be Baki the Grappler, the teenage hand-to-hand combat specialist. His start in the scene began in 1991 ??with his initial manga from creator Keisuke Itagaki.

Baki’s original manga is split into five different parts, with the third arc being, specifically, the Baki Hanma arc. This is the current arc in the latest Netflix anime series, which began in 2021. This is also the iteration of Baki that will appear in th??e upcoming anime crossover ??film.

On the other side of the arena facing Baki is the newcomer, Ohma Tokita. He is the star of the Kengan Ashura manga and anime series?, which began its run in 2012 and concluded in 2018. He starts out as a fighter i?n his late 20s who rises from nothing to become one of the most famous fighters in the Kengan Annihilation Tournament. They will battle it out to see who reigns supreme on June 6, 2024 on Netflix.

The fourth season of The Witcher on Netflix is currently undergoing pro?duction, but when can we ex??pect Geralt back and what do we know about this next chapter in the story?

After the explosive events of the season 3 finale, which saw Geralt and Ciri getting separated yet again, our monster-hunter is going to Nilfgaard to search of his ward. Ciri, meanwhile, has found a new home among the Rats, a gang of young criminals ??who make do with whatever they can steal from the rich.

The entire Continent is now hell-bent on finding Ciri and exploiting her powers, so Yennefer and Geralt have more than Nilfgaardian agents to contend with this time around. The Northern Realms want Ciri to secure t??heir power, Emhyr of Nilfgaard wants Ciri to succeed him, and the Wild Hunt wants Ciri to find a new world for the Aen Elle.

But the forthcoming season 4 isn’t merely marking a split in Geralt’s company. The Witcher is attempting a massive shi??ft in the form of its lead star. Henry Cavill has given up the mantle of t??????????????????????????he White Wolf, with Liam Hemsworth coming on board to take his place.

Can showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich and co. convince fans to give their new Geralt of Rivia a chance? Or is season 4 already doomed to fail? Here’s ev??erything you need to know about this next outing.

The Witcher season 4 release date and filming

Netflix is planning to shoot season 4 and season 5 back-to-back, a process that is expected to take up to a year of principal photography. This report is courtesy of Redanian Intelligence, a reliable outlet dedicated to covering the latest developments from Andrej Sapkowski’s The Witcher

Filming would’ve commenced sooner, but last year’s extended SAG-AFTRA writers?strike pushed the schedule back. Still, the crew was slated to get the cameras rolling in March, so assuming that it will take Netflix the conventional six-month window to get all the footage it needs, we can expect The Witcher season 4 to premiere sometime in early 2025.

I know ?that’s a longer wait than any of us were counting on, but considering what the industry went through last year, not to mention the tumultuous situation of the series itsel??f within the fandom, it’s lucky tha??t we even got a renewal.

It’s also been reported that The Witcher will end with its fifth season, which could explain why the team wants to shoot the two seasons back-to-back. T?his hasn’t been officially confirmed, though, so we’d take it wi??th a boatload of salt for the time being.

Which cast members are coming back for The Witcher season 4 and who are the newcomers?

Apart from Henry Cavill, almost the entire ca?st is expected to return in season 4. That includes Freya Allen’s Ciri, Anya Chalotra’s Yennefer, and Joey Batey’s Jaskier.

Anna Shaffer (?Triss), Graham McTavish (Dijkstra), Eamon Farren (Cahir), and Bart Edwards (Emhyr) are also repr?ising their respective roles.

As for newcomers, the most exciting addition is The Matrix and John Wick star Laurence Fishburne, who is portraying the fan-favorite character Regis. (Regis also appears in The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine DLC.) Sharlto Copley is bringing the despised mercenary Leo Bonhart to life. James Purefoy is portraying Skellan, and Danny Woodburn is appearing as Geralt’s trusted friend, Zolta??n Chivay.

Henry Cavill Witcher

How will The Witcher handle the Cavill–Hemsworth switcheroo?

We st?ill don’t know how Netflix is going to explain the switch from Henry Cavill to Liam Hemsworth. Will the series simply ignore the change and expect us to go along with it too? Or is there going to be an in-universe explanation for why Geralt suddenly looks and sounds very different?

According to what producer Tomek Bagiński told Radio Times last year, the possibility of alternate realities and a multiverse shouldn't be overlooked. "This is a very little thing that I will tease,?he said. “People who know the books really deeply also know that this is not a typical fantasy book. It's not just one world. It's not just one story happening in those bo??oks, in those stories."

What is the plot of The Witcher season 4?

Season 4 will pick up where it previously left off, adapting the fifth book in the saga, Baptism of Fire. Now, whether it’s our own Geralt or an alternate-reality Geralt whose story has followed the same path??, our titular monster-hunter will be racing ag??ainst the rest of the world to find Ciri. We can also expect to see the formation of Geralt’s infamous Hansa ?consisting of Dandelion, Angoulême, Regis, Cahir, and the deadly Dryad archer Milva.

Stay tuned for more news and updates on The Witcher season 4.

I'd like to think that everyone who's played an RPG has wondered what its fantastical creatures might look like on a plate. If you try to show me someone who hasn't ever thought about eating a Pokémon, I will show you a liar. And it's that bold adventuring spirit that Delicious in Dungeon, which recently debuted o?n Netflix, sim?mers to perfection.

Based on the manga Delicious in Dungeon (or Dungeon Meshi) by Ryōko Kui, the Netflix anime adaptation has a powerhouse behind it with Kill la Kill and Little Witch Academia studio Trigger. For anime fans, that might be enough to whet your ap??petite.

//www.youtube.com/watch?v=n5JEoD7keVo

Laios, Chilchuck, and Marcille are members of an adventuring party, trying to traverse a mysterious labyrinth. It all started when the land split and a catacomb emerged. From there, a man dragged himself forward, declaring himself the ruler of a once-golden land, sunken underground by a mad mage. He promised his treasure to whoever could successfully defeat ?the sorcerer, before turning to dust.

Naturally, dungeon-diving became a booming profession. But after a particularly rough fight with a giant dragon, Laios and crew are left with almost nothing, and his sister Falin soon to be devoured by said d??ragon. Down a few members and out on their luck, the party needs to find a way to make it back and save their party member, before the worst can happen.

Image via Netflix/Studio Trigger

By itself, that's a decent set-up. But what makes Delicious in Dungeon so appetizing isn't just a good quest. It's ??what they discover on the way down. Because if you're going to kill some monsters, and eat some food, why not combine the two?

Meat's back on the menu

RPGs have frequently used food as a resource to meter out progression. Baldur's Gate 3 is a recent example, with a full long rest requiring a certain amount of provisions. In The Lord of the Rings, Frodo and Sam talk ??about rationing out their lembas bread to la??st the whole walk into Mordor.

But sustaining a long journey is costly. It's an expense, for one, to stock up on food. And the party must also carry their supplies around with them. Laios, the sword-and-shield knight leader of the Delicious in Dungeon party, comes up with a simple solution: simply ea?t? the monsters.

Image via Netflix/Studio Trigger

It's initially repulsive to the mage Marcille and rogue Chilchuck, but it's also the best opt?ion to get back down the dungeon and save Falin from dragon digestion. After meeting Senshi, a dwar?ven warrior who's surprisingly knowledgeable in the methods of harvesting, hunting, and preparing meals from dungeon creatures, the outside-shot seems more and more reasonable.

It makes sense, too. Dungeons are always depicted as their own little ecosystems; places where monsters don't just hang out, waiting for adventurers, but actually live. It then follows that something in this little contained world eats something else to survive. And if any of? that is edible for the adventure??rs, then they can add a new link to the food chain.

On-site procurement

Of course, getting those goods is the challenge. That's been the charm of Delicious in Dungeon thus far, as the viewer gets to follow the party's antics in getting the goods they need for cooking up meals. Early on, Laios pulls a scorpion from a hole in the d?ungeon, sticking a blade in a cracked wall and pulling it back out.

Later, the crew deals with man-eating plants, learning about fertilization and why p??lants have fruit in the process. It's a nice blend of foraging know-how and fantasy monster design, like you've got a DM who's really into food science, and also forgot to eat dinner before the session.

Image via Netflix/Studio Trigger

T?hen, Senshi whips out the cutlery and it's time to cook. While all based on fantasy monsters, the dishes have understandable equivalents. A hot pot, for example, or a tart. I've read a bit ahead in the manga, and the party delves into ome?lets, meats, and more.

Plus, it's all treated with a surprising amount of consideration for how different fantasy monsters might be turned into? edible food. The slime from the first episode is particularly memorable, because we see how Senshi has developed his own method for drying the slime out as he travels. Everything, from biology to preparation and practicality, has been thought out here.

It isn't all rosy, though. Delicious in Dungeon is as much a comedy as it is action or cooking show, often putting Marcille in precarious situations. Meanwhile, Laios barely masks his desire to learn more about the dungeon through cooking. There's a wonder, as to whether he's curious about actually cooking these monsters or just un??derstanding them better, or maybe both.

Image via Netflix/Studio Trigger

Either way, the party is fun to follow. And as someone who normally opts for subtitled options, I tried out the English dub and was pleasantly surprised. Emily Rudd, playing Nami in Netflix's live-action One Piece, gives a solid performance as Marcille, and Damien Haas is great as Laios. SungWon Cho is a spectacular choice for the voice of Senshi, too. Sincerely, this is one where the ??infamous Sub v. Dub conflict need not apply.

A delicious first course

We're only one episode in, so I was initially hesitant to write this one up. You don't want to over-indulge on the appetizers, after all, and Delicious in Dungeon has had some rave reviews of its man?ga. In fact, one of the best things I could say about its anime adaptation is that it encouraged me to finally dive into the source m??aterial.

And my takeaway is that, well, this is a bit of a slow cook. While the action is certainly gorgeous, and there are some stakes to the quest, Delicious in Dungeon enjoys the space a fantasy dungeon crawl offers. After all, their quandary is that it's a long way back down the dunge??on, and those trips necessitate some planning and forethought. Early chapters have very much indulged th?e main idea, with less urgency than you might see in a more battle-centered series.

Image via Netflix/Studio Trigger

It reminds me a little bit of Frieren in that regard, ??though maybe in a different way. Both series are tackling the fantasy setting in a legitimate, non-isekai manner, which is nice to see. And both care a lot ??about the journey. There might be looming goals on the horizon, but the path before them is filled with everyday woes, whether it be monsters or their stomachs.

So, if you're looking for something with a fantasy setting and a very, very unique concept, Delicious in Dungeon is certainly that. I'm curious to see where the series goes as the party delves deeper into the dungeon, but its attentio??n to detail and compelling world already have me sold on seeing the tale through. It'll be airing on Netflix throughout this season, with new ep??isodes dropping on Thursdays.

Netflix's hit League of Legends show, Arcane, is expected to release its second season this November. To bide the time until then, Riot Games and Netflix released a small yet intriguing Arcane Season 2 teaser as part of League of Legends' 2024 roadmap that may tease a fan-favorite arrival.

//www.youtube.com/watch?v=NF4sdChD0eQ

In this 45-second teaser, we're treated to a haunting look at what appears to be a blood transfusion. Giving his blood seems to be Silco's doctor acquaintance, Singed. While it isn't said who or what is being g?iven blood outside of the gigantic be?ast, some fans are quick to speculate. In fact, one of the main theories from last season may help decipher who that hanging abomination may be.

My Enemy

League of Legends character Warwick

I'll start by saying my knowledge of League of Legends starts and ends with Arcane. So, with this new Arcane teaser, I had to do some digging to find some answers. Looking through the YouTube comments of the video (as dangerous as it may be), I came across a few people bringing up a name: Warwick. One Google sear??ch later and, lo and behold, there it is! The many green vials upon the engineered beast's back and the creature-like physique are spot?-on.

As for what created Warwick, one can turn to the last episode of season one, "The Monster You Created". During the episode, we see Singed take the body of a Shimmer-infected Vander to his lab. Vander, for those who need a refresher, was the guardian of Vi and Jinx as well a?s the respec??ted protector of the underground.

Screenshot via Netflix YouTube

When we last saw him in Arcane, he too?k Shimmer and chan??ged into a monster. He proceeds to save Vi and they jump out of a collapsing building. It would make sense that Singed would use Vander's body, dead or alive, for experiments and create the perfect monster. If Vander is indeed Warwick, it seems our heroes' battle will hit a lot more close to home.

Arcane, released in 2021, follows Vi and Jinx, two separated sisters, as they try to reunite with each other in an ever-evolving world of chaos and invention. The show was lauded upon release for its spectacular animation, loaded voice cast, and incredible story. It even won Outstan?ding Animated Program at the Primetime Emmys and Best Adaptation at The Game Awards. As one of my favorite shows of 2021, it's safe to say a lot of people are looking forward to Arcane's second season's release in November.

It's been advertised for a while that a Netflix series called Pokemon Concierge will debut in December. It's only four episodes long, but it offers a unique slice-of-life perspective of the franchise whic??h may be enough to rekindle the flame of passion for the franchise in even the most disillusioned fans.

The episodes are ??about fifteen minutes each, so you'll be done with all of them in about an hour. They're best binged sequentially, and though each episode is mostly self-contained, they all have the same relaxed vibe that makes watching the series an incredibly calming experience.

The first episode introduces you to the protagonist, Haru, who's not having the best time in her personal life, so she heads over to the Pokemon Resort to reinvent herself as a concierge. She's expecting lots of tedious work. Instead, she gets a tropical paradise where she learns more about herself and the mysterious Pokemon world.

A different side of the Pokemon and human relationship

The relationship between Pokemon and humans remains an ambiguous problem in the series. It's been prodded at plenty, but never fully answered. Typically, the explanation is that Pokemon want to be under the tutelage of a worthy Trainer, and that battling is f??ulfilling. Nonetheless, there are moral considerations that inevitably arise from this.

Pokemon Concierge shows us a different way that humans and creatures can live together harmoniously. At the resort, there are no battles. Pokemon get to relax, have fun, and receive the help they need whether it be physical or psychological. For instance, ??a Magikarp who can't swim is given a floaty while a shy Pikachu is given all the social support it needs.

If you're looking to see a fresh side of the sometimes stale Pokemon world, the series may be what will do it for you. It remains authentic to the franchise without indulging in the typical competi??tive aspects. The result is a mellow experience where the nicer side? of these powerful creatures is put on show.

A gorgeous art style

One of the biggest draws of the series is the art style which is as adorable as it is colorf??ul. The Pokemon are depicted using some kind of felt-like material which makes for some remarkably cute and lifelike creatures. Some of them, like Rattata ?and Zigzagoon, look like they never should have been rendered any other way.

Not all Pokemon get this treatment. It doesn't make sense with creatures like Metagross and Graveler. Nevertheless, most critters y?ou'll see look so furry you'll want to reach into the screen and pet them.

The rest of t??he island, as well as ??the human characters, are also beautifully depicted. You'll be treated to colorful environments that perfectly capture the tropical aesthetic of the resort. Never has the Pokemon world looked this good.

Growth for humans and Pokemon

Throughout the four episodes, we see Pokemon undergo growth and change. A timid Psyduck learns to better manage its psychic powers, the most unexpected Magikarp evolves, and a Mudkip is taught how to? gently use its water-squirting abilities.

The lessons packed aren't for the creatures alone. During her time at the resort, Haru discovers more about herself and what she needs to lead a happy life. Through her time with a shy Pikachu, she learns that self-acceptance is far more?? important than trying to be what's expected of her, while her experiences with Psyduck show her that succumbing to fear isn't always the best response to a situation.

Overall,?? Haru is a very relatable and well-crafted protagonist. She is clumsy and self-doubting without ever becoming annoying. I'm sure many will relate to her people-pleasing tendencies and her desire to always say the "right" thing. Of course, Haru isn't the only character around, and you also get time to spend time with Tyler who can be funny at times, and Alisa who is always determined.

Pokemon Concierge won't be teaching you anything new about the intricacies of Pokemon and their powers. You also won't be seeing new critters. Nevertheless, the series is worth a watch if y??ou're looking to enjoy the world in one of the most easy-going forms available.

Grand Theft Auto is hijacking a new service: Netflix Games. Announced today, Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy -The Definitive Edition is making i??ts way onto the Netflix?? app in December.

//twitter.com/netflix/status/1729913002491834389

According to the Netflix website, players will get to experience the definitive editions of Grand Theft Auto III, Vice City, and San Andreas all from their phones. Players can pre-register for each title before they launch on December 14. The news comes weeks after games like Hades and Braid were announced to arrive on the service next year.

For some, these games are staples of the video game world, as they redefined the series to what it is today. GTA III, Vice City, and San Andreas came out in 2001, 2002, and 2004, respectively. Each of them launched on the PlayStation 2 and became the highest-selling games on the system. That's saying something given the console's immense success. Rockstar Games raked in the money, and the controversies, and became legends in the industry.

Grand Theft Auto III follows down-on-his-luck Claude as he enters the crime-filled world of Liberty City on a quest for revenge. Vice City, on the other hand, tackles its version of Las Vegas with Tommy Vercetti's rise back into the mafia scene after being released from prison. Finally, San Andreas showcases a more realistic world as ??we see CJ Johnson's reluctant return to gang warfare.

For many people, the thought of accessing any GTA from your phone is amazing, even more so from Netflix. You'll get that fantasy, though there is one problem: it's Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy. Yes, the one that came out last year to abysmal fanfare. Its horrendous launch and low quality m?ade even die-hard fans wince. Fortunately, it seems like changes were made, as the collection is set to be 'updated' for mobile devices.

Still, this is a huge hit for Netflix Games, as their platform hasn't been as out-there with their games as other services have. Their section of games includes titles like Immortality and Oxenfree, among others. As mentioned before, the acquisition comes a??fter announcing a few 2024 additions during Netflix Geek?ed Week.

December is shaping up to be big for Grand Theft Auto fans, as it was revealed last month that a Grand Theft Auto VI is on the way. Grand Theft Auto V has been the face of the series for 10 years and sold millions of copies over its lifetime. Now, finally ?seeing the next generation of open-world crime simulators will be nothing short of exciting.

Netflix subscribers can access their game catalog from the app. Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy is available for pre-register?? now and launches on ??????????????????????????December 14.

After over 1,200 episodes and well over a dozen films, Ash Ketchum's Pokémon journey concluded earlier this year. But you'd be crazy if you thought that would be the end of the immensely successful anime series. Pokémon Horizons is on the way to pick up the mantle, with Netflix con?firming in a new trailer that it will begin airing stateside early next year.

Pokémon Horizons features a new duo of Liko and Roy, each with a starter from the Paldea region. Liko is paired with the grass-type Sprigatito, while Roy adventures around with the fire-type Fuecoco. The trailer introduces us to Liko and explains?? she has traveled to where it all began, the Kanto region, to enroll in the Indigo Academy. We also meet Roy, a young native of the Kanto region with a passion for becoming a Pokémon trainer. Sound familiar?

//youtu.be/sU_4d8KImsk

Liko and Roy both possess artifacts that the Explorers, the Team Rocket-like group of Horizons, are seeking to take. Liko has a mysterious pe?ndant passed down to her from her grandmother. While Roy has an ancient-looking Poké Ball that rais??es questions of its own.

The duo isn't alone though, as a group known as the Rising Volt Tacklers come to their aid in the show. The gr?oup is headlined by its own duo of Friede and Captain Pikachu, with Friede riding atop a fierce-looking Charizard of his own.

The series will start streaming on Netflix begi??nning February 23, 2024, which purposely coincides with the timi?ng of Pokémon Day celebrations for 2024.

Pokémon Horizons isn't the only Pokémon series Netflix has coming down the pipeline though, as the fantastic-looking stop-motion animated Pokémon Concierge begins streaming on December 28.

Zagreus has found his new home: Netflix. Revealed during Netflix Geeked Week, Supergiant Games' Hades is coming to Netflix's gaming service in 2024.

//www.youtube.com/watch?v=iRDeQoad80s

The 2020 roguelike is joining the ranks of Immortality, Spiritfarer, and Oxenfree as one of the available games in the service. Netflix Gaming is free for all Netflix subscribers, so owners of the streaming giant can play at no extra cost. The announcement also came with the news that Braid, Death's Door, and Katana Zero would be added in 2024.

It's in the Blood

Hades follows the son of the titular ruler of the underworld, Zagreus, as he tries to escape the Underworld. With the help of the gods of Olympus, you die, die, and die again as you ??battle through ever-changing maps. Upon its release on Switch and PC, the game was lauded for its character design and addicting roguelike gameplay.

Our own Jordan Devore rated the game a 9/10, citing Supergiant Games' strong storytelling and stellar RPG combat. Hades was nomi??nated for multiple Game of the Year awards and even won Destructoid's own Overall Best Game of 2020.

I played the heck out of Hades when it was on Game Pass. Seeing it? made available for all Netflix subscribers is a joy. Now, more people can play this stellar game whenever and wherever they want. It's a tr??ip to Hell I am down to go to.

The timing for Hades to come to Netflix is pretty coincidental, as Supergiant Games is expanding the universe next year with Hades II. The game, which made its way onto my RPGs to look out for, follows Zagreus' sister, Melinoë. Instead of her father, she'll face the Titan of Time alongside new faces. The game is set to go Early Access in Q2 of 2024 for PC.? While it's set to release on consoles, no specifics were given??.
