Konami announced during the 2024 Nintendo Partner Showcase that the first two Suikoden games, combined into the lengthy-titled Suikoden I&II HD Remaster: Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars, are arriving on Nintendo Switch, PC, Xbox, and PlayStation platforms on March 6, 2025. Originally announced back in 2023 an?d delayed indefinitely, we now have a confirmed date for next year.

The original Suikoden and Suikoden II games launched in 1995 and 1998, respectively, with a compilation of the two arriving years later in 2006. Nearly 20 years later, the remaster is set to launch as one bundle in 2025. While initially announced as a Switch release, Konami's follow-up announcement revealed every launch platform, including PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. Its physic??al version is available for? pre-order starting on August 28, with September 6 marking the day for Nintendo Switch pre-orders.

The Suikoden I&II HD Remaster will follow the originals' turn?-based formula, with over 100 characters to befriend and fight alongside. The remaster primarily enhances its graphics and makes it compatible with modern systems. Beyond this, it'll also include new auto-battling and double-speed battling features to spice up your battles.

Look, let's just get ahead of it: no, Hollow Knight: Silksong did not shadow-drop. There was neither hide nor hair of the long-awaited Hollow Knight follow-up at today's April 2024 Nintendo Indie World Showcase, and no amount of "SK??ONG"s in the chat could have summoned it.

And honestly, side-bar, I don't think that Silksong is going to resurface at an event like this. Despite the ratings boards and store listings pointing towards an imminent release, that's the sort of thing that shows up at a big showcase. Your hopes should reside in June, Silksong faithful.

What we did get tod??ay was a whole slew of new indies and familiar faces, with dates, demos, shadow-drops, and more. I've said before that the indie showcases always manage to surprise me, and today was no different. Here's the rundown of intriguing games we got a glimpse of today.

Little Kitty Big City is first up on the docket. The adorable cat-sim sees you playing as, guess, a little kitty in a big city. It does look fantastic, adorable, and like a good time for cat lovers. It's arriving on May 9, 2024.

For our first big reveal, there's Yars Rising, a team-up from WayForward and Atari that sees the Yars series return. Yet, as our own Zoey Handley puts it, this doesn't seem very Yar. Looks like a neon-infused Metroid-y game, and I guess we'll see how it continues the Yar legacy sometime this year.

Our internal chat was certainly impressed with Refind Self, a personality test game with striking graphics and an interesting premise. It's a choice-driven game that tracks your action??s and uses that to map out your personality, which can be shared with other players. It seems novel, at the very least. It hits Switch this summer.

For sticker fans, Sticky Business lets you stick to your heart's content without ruining your good stickers. It's frustrating, personal??ly, when I mess up stickering. You get to run a sticker shop and interface with customers, too. Live out your sticker shop fantasy today, as both the game?? and its DLC drop onto Switch today.

Do you love this new wave of Wario Land-alikes? Antonblast is here to add more fuel to the fire and lord, does it look fantastic. It's easy to say that, whether you're a Wario fan or joined with more recent successors like Pizza Tower, this is worth looking out for on Novemb??er 12. A demo hits Switch later to?day.

Valley Peaks is an interesting exploration game, where you do some first-person ??platforming and take on sidequests, minigames, and more as you climb mountains. It's got an interesting contrast between serene views and tense platforming, so I'm curious about it as it climbs towards a launch this year.

I will have more to say about Lorelei and the Laser Eyes in a separate piece, but suffice to say, if you were expecting another Sayonara Wild Hearts from?? this team, this isn't quite that. Simogo's latest is a deep, engrossing puzzler that demands you get out a pad and pencil, and if that appeals to you at all, it's worth k??eeping an eye on. Look for it on Switch on May 16.

Europa is a project from Helder Pinto and friends, with a watercolor art style?? and lots of exploration to uncover. I really dig the look of it, even if these sorts of platformer-explorers aren't always my vibe. This could be a bit of a surprise when it arrives this year. If you really want to check it out, a demo is out later today.

Another Apple Arcade game has escaped and made it onto other platforms. TMNT Splintered Fate brings its co-op, rogue-y take on the turtles to Switch as a timed consol??e exclusive in July 2024.

We just saw it at the Triple-I Initiative, but for those seeking adventure and cats in equal measure, there is Cat Quest 3. The ?series has eluded me over the ye?ars, but if you're looking to hop on, it arrives on August 8.

Stitch is another shadowdrop with an interesting premise. Y?ou basically stitch hoop patterns that are like puzzles, as you have to determine the placing of different rows and blocks. It's got quite the look, and a ton of puzzles, with even daily puzzle options. It's out today on Switch, and might be good if you're looking for something to cool down with at the end of a long day.

It's montage time! That classic portion of every Direct and showcase where we blast through a bunch of games and dates. Here's ??the lowdown:

And our "one more thing" of the showcase is SteamWorld Heist II, a very well-deserved follow-up that sends the Heists out of space, and into the high seas of naval combat and raids. Everything here looks like a fantastic expansion on the original's formula, and I'm very, very keen to see more of it as we head towards an August 8 releas??e date.

It's almost time, once again, to see what independent developers have in the works for Nintendo Switch. Nintendo announced plans for a ??new Indie World showcase, with the latest s??et to go live on April 17, 2024 at 7 a.m. PT / 10 a.m. ET.

While we won't know what's on the docket until it begins, the stream will feature "roughly 20 minutes of announ?cements and updates" concerning indie games that are on the way to Switch sometime this year. You'll be able to catch it live at the link below, so feel free to camp out for the next 24 hours or so. 

Indie World showcases have run the gamut over the past few years, with many simply diving a little deeper into games of which we were already aware. Now is the perfect time for all you Hollow Knight: Silksong folks to drum up some hype. Couldn't hu?rt, right? 

The not-so-distant indie future

Back in November 2023 we got a look at games like Shantae Advance, Core Keeper, On Your Tail, Howl, and Blade Chimera, among others. The results were a mix of titles that were due out either shortly after the show or sometime in 2024. Whatever may be in store, this continues to be Nintendo's go-to format for announcements, trailers, and general sizzle-reel reminders. With fewer in-person shows on Nintendo's horizon this year â€?the company recently confirmed it w??ill be skipping Gamescom 2024 this August â€?perhaps we're due a few surprises at some point. 

Don'?t start weaving any very specific celebratory songs just yet, though.

Publisher Skybound Games has announced a release window for the intriguing and spectacularly silly-looking wrestling RPG WrestleQuest �As repo?rted during yesterday's Nintendo Indie World Showcase, the day-glo grappler will launch on PC and console platforms in May 2023.

As we have previously reported, WrestleQuest is a unique spin on the typical RPG adventure title, as will charge players with taking their custom superstar through the territories in a bid to become the pro-wrestling king of the 1980s. Along the way, the rookie will team with, (or op?pose), a who's who of 30 genuine pro-wrestling le??gends, including "Macho Man" Randy Savage, Koko B. Ware, Jake "The Snake" Roberts, The Road Warriors, Sgt. Slaughter, and Andre the Giant.

Also, Jeff Jarrett is in the mix.

WrestleQuest incorporates fun pixel visuals, as well as a novel "Hasbro figure" look to each of its ring legends. As you can see from the above trailer, matches play out in turn-based fashion, with a wide variety of strikes, holds, throws, and specials available to our roster of ring-rockers. One gal even shows up on a motorbike, which might be considered cheating, all things considered. Another fun moment sees Andre show up to bodyslam the entire ring! Good wor??k, boss.

As the player progresses through their star-spangled career, they will be given the option to customize their wardrobe, gimm?ick, and entrance to ensure that they become the talk of the town... or at least The Observer. With its tongue firmly stuck in its cheek, and some rad-looking visual ?design. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing whether this underdog delivers a five-and-a-half star matchup when it finally emerges from the locker room.

Add Bull Nakano and this ?is going to be my GOTY 2023.

When you're strange...

Publisher Ysbryd Games has announced that its creepy, lo-fi RPG World of Horror will finally exit its Early Access status in the summer of 2023 �Soon thereafter, th??e pointillistic petrifier (oh yes) will receive its long-awaited official launch on PlayStation, PC, and Nintendo Switch platforms.

Developed by one-man Polish studio Panstasz, World of Horror is a graphic adventure horror title in the vein of classic DOS and Amiga text adventures such as Personal Nightmare, WaxWorks, and Elvira: Mistress of the Dark, blended with a meticulously itchy aesthetic that blends the horrors of manga artists such as Junji Ito with intricate, but rudimentary, MS Paint visuals. The result is a game that feels like it shouldn't be ge??tti?ng inside your head, but is somehow able to do so. And with relative ease.

Set in the town of Shiokawa, Japan, World of Horror follows a young investigator as they follow a series of obscure and bizarre clues, ??ultimately uncovering evidence of a coming apocalypse, heralded by a platoon of grotesque creatures. The player engages in turn-based combat with these monstrosities in their efforts to seek out the truth about armageddon and, hopefully, discover a way to prevent it.

Death Decks

The atmospheric and critically acclaimed puzzler Inscryption is headed to the Nintendo Switch platform in just a matter of weeks, following on from its warmly received launch on PC and PlayStation platforms. Publisher Devolver Digital announced the news during yesterday's Nintendo Indie World showcas??e.

Developed by Daniel Mullins Games (of Pony Island and The Hex fame), Inscryption is a skin-crawling creepy puzzle game that blends elements of RPGs, roguelikes, and deckbuilding card games to create a uniquely weird and nightmarish experience. Inscryption masterfully blends these various gaming genres while unfolding its own in-game lore in smart and immersive fashion. In the vein of titles such as Doki Doki Literature Club, Inscryption?? is a game best experienced, rather than explain?ed.

Inscryption launches on Nintendo Switch December 1. It is available now on PC and PlayStatio?n.

Good things come to those who wait

I first heard about Ooblets back in 2018. I've been following the game's development since then, because nothing sounds more up my alley than a Pokémon-inspired life simulator where you get to both grow crops and have your weird little creatures compete in dance-offs. Ooblets went into early access back in the summer of 2020, but it seems that the game is now enteri??ng its final stages of developm??ent... finally, the wait is almost over!

We got the update during the Nintendo Indie World Showcase this morning, where Ooblets was just one of the many noteworthy titles we covered in our roundup. Since Nintendo hosts the whole shindig, the biggest news for this title was that it's coming to Nintendo Switch this summer in addition to PC and Xbox, which is already exciting news on its own. Of course, that wasn't the end of it, because developer Glumberland also revealed that Ooblets will finally be leavin?g early acce?ss with the release of its 1.0 version.

The full version of the game will include all of the updates that players received over the course of alpha such as new locations and quests, as well as more new updates that players have yet to see, including a conclusion to the game's main storyline. That last detail is what I've been particularly excited for, because I've been holding off on playing the game until Glumberland releases the full story �knowing me, I'm going to binge it?? all at once, so I wanted to be able to do so when the time comes.

As of now we don't have a release date for the Nintendo Switch port or the 1.0 version yet, but I'll be keeping a close eye on their website and social media until then.

I remember whe?n that announcement trailer dropped a few years ago, and what a cool yet far-away feeling dream it was. There's nothing better than seeing a small team of passionate game designers not only make that dream for themselves, but flourish?? because of it.
