Classic titles to be revisited by Panzer Dragoon producers

Forever Entertainment, the publisher responsible for Panzer Dragoon: Remake and the recently confirmed Panzer Dragoon II Zwei: Remake - has entered into an agreement with Square Enix Japan to produce mul?tiple remakes based on one?? of the studio's classic IPs.

While the IP itself was not revealed, nor were the amount of games or a release window, it is believed that the remakes will feature a full visual overhaul while retaining each title's original gameplay. It is unknown whether the new games will be developed before, after, or alongside Forever's incoming remakes of 1996 Sega shooter The House of The Dead and its 1998 sequel, The House of The Dead 2.

Panzer Dragoon: Remake is available now on PS4, PC, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch Panzer Dragoon II Zwei: Remake will launch later in 2021.

Through the Dragoon's Eye

The physical media funsters over at Limited Run Games have announced that they will be producing a short run of physical copies for the PS4 edition of Sega's Panzer Dragoon: Remake.

Limited Run's Panzer Dragoon: Remake will be made available in two formats: a standard boxed copy of the game and a delightful "Classic Edition" which houses the disc in a special jewel case reminiscent of the Sega Saturn releases of yore - complete with old-school artwork. In addition, LRG will also be selling a double-LP vinyl of the Panzer Dragoon: Remake soundtrack, signed by legendary composer Saori Kobayashi herself.

Pre-orders for both physical editions, as well as the soundtrack LP, will open exclusively on the Limited Run website on Friday, December 18. Get your order in sharpish, as the retailer will be closing pre-orders after four weeks. Panzer Dragoon: Remake is available now on PS4, PC, Xbox On?e, Nintendo Switch, and Stadia.

MegaPixel Studios has revealed that its modern-day take on 1995 Sega Saturn classic Panzer Dragoon will fin?ally take flight on Xbox One next week, following its earlier release on PS4, PC, Stadia, and Nintend??o Switch.

Panzer Dragoon: Remake features al??l of the high-fantasy rail-shooter action of the original 1995 release, spruced up with dynamic new visuals and an overhauled control system. Players will once again mount the fabled Blue Dragon before embarking on a long and hazardous quest to reach an ancient tower and prevent the world from falling?? at the hands of the mysterious Prototype Dragon.

No sense in dragon it out

Megapixel Studios' 20??20 remake of classic Sega Saturn title Panzer Dragoon is now finally ava??ilable on PS4, following its earlier releases on Nintendo Switch, PC, and Stadia. It can be purchased from the PlayStation Network right now, priced at around $25.

The re-imagined edition of the 1995 rail shooter features all of the fantasy sky-fighting action of the original release, given a fresh new look and an overhaul?ed control system, suitable for modern gaming audiences. Fans waiting on ports of rail-shooter Panzer Dragoon: Remake will be pleased to hear that we finally have a release date for the PC e??dition. The ground-up remake of the Sega Saturn classic will ??arrive on Steam and GOG September 25. A price was not announced.

Panzer Dragoon: Remake takes the 1996 sci-fi/fantasy adventure and affords it a full visual overhaul, alongside with a new control system and a slew of new locations and enemies. Switch release wings its way onto new platforms

Forever Entertainment has teased that its remake of Sega Saturn classic Panzer Dragoon will be launching on PC and PS4 "soon", following its release earlier this year on Nintendo Switch.

Developed by MegaPixel Studio, Panzer Dragoon: Remake offers a fresh take on 1996 r?ail-shooter, featuring a full visual overhaul, an improved control system, and new locations and enemies as players bat??tle through seven fantasy locales in efforts to stop the fabled Prototype Dragon from reaching an ancient relic and bringing chaos to the world.

Rock the dragon

There are certain joys that I never thought I'd be able to experience again, but in the age of remasters and remakes, anything is possible. Kevin Garnett was ??right.

Take the original Panzer Dragoon for example. It was born as a Sega Saturn title that spawned a seven-year franchise, before it was put on ice with Orta on the original Xbox. It went from a Sega e??xclusive to a Microsoft exclusi?ve, and this week, it's hitting Switch.

Let me curb your expectations right now: although Panzer Dragoon is often remembered as a beloved classic, you're ostensibly paying $24.99 for an hour-long game with some bumped-up visuals ??and slightly worked controls. It's not a? complete re-imagining of the series with extra chapters: this is the reality.

Now I've gladly paid way more for shorter shoot 'em ups, but of course, every case is different. I actually remember playing the original Panzer Dragoon at launch, and it was never the sharpest tool in the franchise's short-lived shed. It was swiftly surpassed by Panzer Dragoon II Zwei (the sequel) a year later (which is also being remade eventually), and although the original doe?s stand up on i??ts own, it has some faults that carry over to the 20th anniversary remake. First, let's talk about what holds up.

Call me crazy, but I actually think this old-ass game is still beautiful? The environments are soothing and idyllic despite the all-out war raging around you, and the timeless soundtrack, from the mind of Yoshitaka Azuma, is one of the best of that entire era. Even though the remake still looks rather dated it doesn't bother me one bit. All six stages feel unique and distinct in their own way, with the music further elevating them. The world itself is also so fascinating and mysterious. Cutscenes?? are mostly atmospheric, filling in the universe with vague, eerie details: this is a world worth remembering and living on past the '90s.

But ultimately the game can't escape its own le??gacy. In some ways, the first game was like a proof of concept, which makes perfect sense as it was a launch title for the US release of the Sega Saturn. If you aren't swept away by its world like I was (and still am), you're ?in for a bumpy ride as you jet across this now-very-basic on-rails journey in an hour flat.

Part of the problem is a lack of proper enhancements for the modern era. Classic controls work kind of l??ike how they did in 1995. You can move your reticle about with the left stick, rotate the camera with L/R, press B to fire bulle?ts, and hold B to initiate a classic rail-shooter lock-on attack. The "modern" archetype allows for free-aiming with the right analog stick, turning it into a twin-stick shooter, while attacks are tied to ZL and ZR. If you have a Pro Controller or are adept with the Joy-Con sticks, you'll be alright.

For ??everyone else, a complete lack of sensitivity adjustments might try your patience as you constantly mash ZL or ZR. You seemingly cannot swap control methods in-game, and must go back to the main menu to select anything outside of volume control and photo mode. Oh and there are no gyro controls yet, but they are coming in the future.

Releasing the original Panzer Dragoon as a standalone remake is a bold move to begin with. A dual-pack of both remakes could have made a bigger splash, but while we wait for Zwei's re-release to ??materi?alize, this is what we've got. Approach it with caution and an open mind.

Panzer Dragoon fans got a very welcome surprise yesterday, as the remake of the classic 1995 Sega Saturn release took flight on Nintendo Switch at very little notice. Panzer Dragoon: Remake is available to download ??from the eShop right now, but if you're looking to get physical, then Limited Run Games has you covered.

Over on the publisher's official store, you can now pre-order a physical edition of the mystical shooter, ahead of its unspecified release date. Panzer Dragoon: Remake is available in standard Switch format for around $40, but collectors might want to take a look at the Classic Edition, which will set you back a little more at $60, but comes housed in a Sega Saturn-style jewel cas?e, along with ?a "long-form" instruction manual and production booklet.

Pre-orders are live right now and will remain open until April 24. Panzer Dragoon: Remake is available to download now o?n Nintendo Switch, and is coming to PC later this year.

Still slated for a winter 2020 release

Panzer Dragoon came out in 1995 on the Sega Saturn, and almost immedia??tely made history.? Not only did it cement the Saturn as a console to remember for all time, but it also helped welcome rail shooters into the home setting. 25 years later, it's being introduced to a new era.

Although it's been known for forever, the Panzer Dragoon remake is coming at some point this year ("winter") to PC and Switch. You can also add Stadia to that list. Announced directly by Google, Panzer Dragoon will headline a new collective of games coming to Stadia: a list that also includes Lost Words: Beyond the Page, The Serious Sam Collection, Spitlings and Stacks on Stacks on Stacks. Everything other than Serious Sam and Panzer Dragoon are coming to Stadia "first." In other words, as a timed excl??usive.

Google also reminds us that Doom Eternal, Get Packed, Orcs Must Die! 3 and Baldur's Gate, among "many more games," are coming to Stadia this year. Me? I'm just happy Panzer Dragoon is available on one more platform.

Steam version gliding in this winter

In a surprising bit of early morning news, Forever Entertainment has announced that the upcoming Nintendo Switch remake of classic Sega title Panzer Dragoon will also be coming to PC via Steam. The publisher revealed the news on its official Twitter.

Panzer Dragoon: Remake, revealed for Switch almost exactly a year ago, will capture all the fantasy rail-shooter action of the original 1995 Sega Saturn release and bring it bang up to date with fresh new visuals and sound. It will be followed up by a remake of sequel Panzer Dragoon Zwei at a later date.

Panzer Dragoon: Remake launches this winter on Nintendo Switch and PC. A physical release is also planned for the Switch edition.

Possibly through Limited Run Games

Those eagerly anticipating the upcoming remake of Sega Saturn classic Panzer Dragoon might be pleased to hear that there is a physical edition of the ??fantasy shooter in the works. The news was tweeted out by the remake's ??publisher, Forever Entertainment, then retweeted by Limited Run Games, which may suggest the latter's involvement in said physical edition.

Panzer Dragoon: Remake, which was first announced back in December 2018, will recapture the rail-shooter action of the classic Sega Saturn release, offering lush new visuals and sound while retaining the view-switching, lock-on shooting action of the original game. It will be followed up with a remake of 1996's Panzer Dragoon Zwei at a later date.

The first release is due out next year

The Sega Saturn dragon-rider rail shooters Panzer Dragoon and Panzer Dragoon II Zwei are getting a revival. Revealed this week in an unassuming d??eveloper post, Forever Entertainment announced that it will co-create remakes of both games with assistance from Sega. It's a series I've always intended to play due to its cult classic status, but it's not the easiest thing to ?get your hands on in a pinch.

While platforms weren't mentioned yet, the first Panzer Dragoon remake is scheduled for release "before the end of 2019." Presumably, that means we'll start hearing specifics about the project ??soon.

Forever Entertainment didn't initially ring any bells for me, but the studio worked on Fear Effect Sedna, which made the rounds this year. The Gdynia, Poland-based team is promising "completely new graphics compatible w?ith today's stan?dards and several modifications of the game, making it more attractive to modern players, while remaining faithful to the original in terms of story."

With Sony recently trying its hand at the mini console craze with the PlayStation Classic, there's a renewed interest in Sega cashing in on our nostalgia with something, anything. Sega?? had some absolute gems on its 3D consoles in the '90s. It'd be great to see those titles continue reaching new players.
