The Decks keep rolling out

Valve has once again beaten its estimates for Steam Deck reservations. Today, the company confirms it has sent all reservations for the Q3 window.

The Q3 bucket, ranging from July to September, is slightly ahead of pace and so Valve is already getting a head-start on Q4. The store's already been updated with a new description, as it extends from September on thr??ough December.

The Deck manufacturer announced in July that it has been fulfilling demand sooner than estimated for the portable PC. As such, Valve started bumping reser?vations up further in the ??queue.

Now, it looks like those Q4 reservations are starting to ro?ll out. So that's a PSA, for those of you waiting on Steam Deck tickets, to get your wallets ready.

More on deck

That's not the only Steam Deck news from the last few days, either. The official dock for the Steam Deck was on display at last week's Tokyo Game Show 2022, as shared around on sites like Reddit.

While some third-party solutions have been around, Valve's official dock has been delayed. I've since picked up a powered USB h?ub for my own purposes, and it does a decent amount of what any dock would do. But the ability to prop up and park the Deck in it, like a Switch dock, is a big part of t??he appeal.

No target window has been set for the release of the Steam Deck dock. "We're working on improving the situation and will share more info when we have it," reads the official statement from the time.

Still, while the dock is backed up, the Steam Deck seems to be flying off the production line. Those who are in line for one should hopefully?? not be waiting too much longer to get their reservation email.

The wait might be finally over

It's been over two years, and I, like many others out there, have still yet to secure a PS5. While I've been resigned to a life without the newest console due to ??bots, scalpers, and other customers that have faster internet than me, it seems there might finally be hope for those of us who still don't have a console.

According to a new financial report from Sony published on July 29, they have plans to reach their projection of 18 million units sold in 2022. There was also a detail included in the report that there have been "significant improvements" to Sony's supply chain, meaning the issues that have been plaguing the PS5's production may well be ??coming to a close. Most importantly, the company said that they're "working to bring-forward more supply into the year-end holiday selling season."

Sounds like it should be smooth(er) sailing for consumers as the months go ??on.

I've even heard anecdotes recently of the PS5 not selling out instantly once it becomes available through ??Sony, so there's a chance we're already? seeing the positive effects of supply chain improvements.

I personally gave up the search a long time ago, mostly because there aren't a ton of games out there I've been itching to play that have been released just yet, but I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't jump at the chance to play Returnal or Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart if given the chance. It's like, my backlog is big enough I don't need to play those games righ?t now, but I'd like to, you know???

Anyway, it's pretty heartening to hear I won't have to panic my way through a PS5 purchase in the coming months. I might just have to buy one for myself as a Christmas present -- and a pink controller and console cover while I'm at it.

Reservation windows are moving on up

Valve has a new update on Steam Deck production, and it's some good news. The company announced today that it's fulfilling demand sooner than estimated, and so it's bumping up reservation spots for those in?? the queue.

The supply chain shortfalls that initially affected Steam Deck production have been gradually clearing up, a?nd Valve says it is continuing to ramp up its output. According to Valve, the company is able to produce Decks faster than ever before.

Everyone who is currently in the reservation queue will get their Steam Deck email this year. And many customers who were previously in the Q4 or later window have been bumped up ?to Q3. That window ranges from July to September. Everyone else will fall in the Q4, or October to December, range.

Right now, any new observations will be put in the Q4 bucket. If those fill up, reservations will continue to spill over into the following quarter. Those who have a Deck locked in can check their reservation window on the site.

With more of the Steam Decks rolling off the line, this is good news for those still waiting on their portable PC. The company had previously said it was looking to up its production and distribution, and it looks like those efforts bore out well.

The official Steam Deck dock is a bit of a different story, as the official hardware was indefinitely delayed a few months ago. Fo??r those getting their Steam Decks in, third-party seems like it will be the way to go for a while. I wound up grabbing a powered hub online, and it's been working pretty well while I wait for the real deal to be available.

There's already more of Netflix's The Witcher on the way. The official show account confirmed that The Witcher Season 3 is in production today, with a shot of the core c??ast and an official plot su??mmary.

The former shows Henry Cavill, Freya Allen, and Anya Chalotra sitting in chairs out in a snowy, frozen landscape. These three—playing Geralt, Ciri, and Yennefer respectively—are predictably at the h?eart of things. It comes with the confirmation that ?yes, the third season is officially in production.

Where The Witcher goes from here

In a follow-up tweet, the account lays out the official plot summary for The Witcher Season 3. It's as follows:

"As monarchs, mages, and beasts of the Continent compete to capture her, Geralt takes Ciri of Cintra into hiding, determined to protect his newly-reunited family against ??those who threaten to destroy it. Entrusted with Ciri's magical training, Yennefer leads them to the protected fortress of Aretuza, where she hopes to discover more about the girl's untapped powers; instead, they discover they've landed in a battlefield of political?? corruption, dark magic, and treachery. They must fight back, put everything on the line—or risk losing each other forever."

It's not a lot to go off of, save for the fact that the trio is headed to Aretuza. Still, it looks to be carrying forward the main driver of The Witcher Season 2: Ciri's powers.

Cavill previously expressed in an interview that he hopes Season 3 is loyal to the books, "without too much in the way of diversions." The Witcher on Netflix has frequently diverged from t??he books in interesting ways, though.

Showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich previously hinted that the Netflix adaptation is thinking very, very far ahead. That might not entail the series catching up to the games at all. But it at least seems like we're still in store for more Witcher in the future, both from Netflix and from CD Projekt. Good news all around for fans of slaying monsters. No release date's been set for The Witcher Season 3 just yet.

The BioShock movie gets a new hope in Netflix

Big Daddies are coming to the big screen. Netflix announced it is working with Take-Two Interactive and 2K, alongside Vertigo Entertainment, to create a film adaptation of the BioShock franchise.

The announcement on Twitter shows the cover art of the original BioShock, referencing the infamous "would you kindly" line as well. According to The Hollywood Reporter, no filmmaker or writer is on board right?? now. The deal i??tself has reportedly been in the works for almost a year.

A BioShock movie was already in the works years ago, though the project never came to fruition. Now, it seems like the time is right for the franchise t?o re-emerge and get its silver screen adaptation.

Give??n the cover art Netflix is leading with, an adaptation of the first game seems pretty likely. A live-action version of Jack's adventure to the depths of Rapture, and the downfall of the underwater city, seems just right for an action-thriller.

The BioShock series itself has been fairly quiet over the last few years. A new BioShock game is in development at Cloud Chamber, though we don't know many details yet. The last entry in the series was the second episode of BioShock Infinite's DLC, Burial at Sea, in 2014.

Video game adaptations to the big screen have become increasingly popular over the years since BioShock first launched. The Witcher took Netflix by storm, and an Uncharted movie is set to debut soon. Whether the BioShock project turns out well or not, I would like to see how terrifying a Big Daddy c?an be on film.
