Ubisoft has revealed its various recommendations when it comes to PC hardware needed to run Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. They’re not especially surprising.

You’ll need a reasonably recent setup to actually get Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. The minimum GPU is AMD RX 5700 or Nvidia Geforce 1070. The minimum required VRA?M is 8GB. You’ll also need 90GB of f??ree space on your hard drive and at least 18GB of RAM.

However, if you want to run everything at max and in 4K, you’ll need the latest generation of cards. This means at least an AMD RX 7900 XTX 24GB or an Nvidia RTX 4080 16GB. Even with that hardware, you’re still going to need to ??use AMD FSR2 at balan??ced settings to make up the extra frames. It also supports FSR3 and DLSS.

The beefy Ultra specs are likely due to the game’s usage of “Raytraced global illumination, reflections & shadows.�It’s funny how the appreciable growth in graphical fidelity has decelerated significantly in the past couple of decades. If I were cynical, I’d think that a computational-heavy technique such as raytracing is so heavily pushed by tech companies as a way of ensuring that hardware still becomes obsolete at a consistent pace. I am cynical, so I do think that. But that's not Ubisoft's problem. They just want the bullet point. Ubisoft has other problems.

However, if you are down for playing Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, your computer can have a bit of dust on it if you are okay with the lower settings. However, if you want to enjoy all the splendor that Ubisoft can bring ?to Pandora, you’ll need something with a little more beef.

Horror Almost Unreal (5)

Bloober Team has revealed the launch date for its long-in-development release, Layers of Fear �The highly technical psychological horror title will launch on PC and Gen9 platforms on June 15, wi?th a time-limited demo available to play on PC from now until May 22.

Built in Unreal 5 for MAXIMUM TERROR, Layers of Fear is a remade compendium of both Layers of Fear (2016) and Layers of Fear 2 (2019), along with all previously released DLC and a? brand new concluding chapter, titled The Writer. Developer Anshar Studios is hoping that the incredible technical acumen of Unreal 5 will allow for a truly immersive and unsettling experience, as players pick their way through a shifting environment �trapped, lost, and attacked by no less than the twisted mind of the self.

"We are thrilled to announce the release date for Layers of Fear and to bring this definitive horror experience to players," writes Bloober Team CEO Piotr Babieno. "With the power of Unreal Engine 5, we’ve been able to create a game that visually surpasses our previous works, delivering an unforgettable journey into the minds of tormented artists. We are ??excited for both new and returning players to jump in."

The demo will give fans an opportunity to check that their rig is up to handling the high visual standards of this new edition, which utilizes 4K r??esolution, HDR, and Ray-Tracing, while also enhancing its lighting, reflection, and particle techniques with some of the most modern graphics tools available. Dedicated Layers of Fear fans will be able to enjoy new mechanics and twists on the original gameplay, while newcomers can experience the entire story of both titles and their DLC expansions seamles?sly branched together.

Here's the machine you'll need to resurrect Dead Island

We're not far off from the release of Dead Island 2, which means it's probably a good time to know if your rig can handle it. Dambuster Studios has put out a list of PC system requirements for the upcoming zombie action game, as well as an FAQ to addr?ess some common? questions ahead of launch on April 21.

On the PC side, it l?ooks like you'll need a decently modern rig to play at the recommended 1080p / 60 FPS settings. That entails either an AMD Ryzen 5 5600X or Intel Core i9 9900K CPU, as?? well as an AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT or GeForce RTX 2070 Super. Keep sliding on up to 1440p or 4K, and the requirements get even heftier.

While the minimum memory requirement is 10 GB, everything above a base 1080p / 30 FPS experience will need 16 GB. And across the board, you'll need 70 GB of hard drive space available. A decent chunk, though thankfully less than some other games coming ?soon. Here's the full breakdown, by each specification:

The dead rise once again

The requirements page also outlines a few other key points. Namely, there is no crossplay for Dead Island 2, so buy this where your friends are. There is multiplayer with up to thre?e players. It's also ap?parently cross-gen, though what that means in detail has yet to unveiled.

We got a chance to go hands-on with Dead Island 2 recently at PAX East, and found it to largely be, well, more Dead Island. I know that's not really a revelation or anything, but there's a part of me that's amazed we're seeing this game launch. It's been in development for ages, and soon, those years of trailers and mentions will finally come home to roost. Dead Island 2 goes live on Play??Station, Xbox, and PC?? on April 21.

PlayStation Blog has released the specifications for the incoming PC port of Naughty Dog remake The Last of Us Part I, and they're unsur??prisingly meaty, given the Gen 9 tech and general visual brilliance of the 2022 PS5 release.

Anybody looking for a steady 60 FPS at 1080P will need to rock a rig with an Intel i7-800 CPU and an 8GB nVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 3060 or equivalent. Those looking for "Ultra" settings, for example players looking for a 4K experience, will need an Intel Core i5-12600K CPU and a pricey NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 4080 ??or equivalent.

Whatever your setup, you'll need an SSD footprint of 100GB ??to store all of those lovely textures, visual effects, and hours and hours of dialogue. The PC edition of Naughty Dog's glumfest will also include additional features such as new resolution options for ultrawide monitors, as well as 3D audio support, and adjustable sliders for texture quality??, shadows, and ambient occlusion, among other elements.

The Last of Us Part I launches on PC (via Steam) on March 28. The celebrated remake will be made available in standard format, or a Digital Deluxe Edition which includes early weapon unlocks and additional weapon skins. The Last of Us Part I is available now on PS5.

More fuel for the magic

The PC system requirements are out for upcoming Square Enix action RPG Forspoken. And it looks like you'll need som??e decent hardwar?e to undertake this journey on a personal computer.

Shown off during a developer livestream, the baselines for each setting range depending on how high you want to push the visual fidelity. For the Recommended, at 1440p30, it ??loo??ks like you'll need fairly modern equipment.

The Recommended requirements call for an AMD Ryzen 5 3??600 or Intel Core i7-8700K, operating at 3.7 GHz or better, for the CPU. On the video card side??, an AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT 12 GB or NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 8 GB are the benchmarks to clear.

Alongside the CPU and video card, memory requirements are also worth jotting down if you want to play Forspoken on PC. Recommended will require 24 GB of memory and 150 GB or more of drive space, preferably on a solid ??st?ate drive.

Ultra adds on extra requirements, as you might expect. Altogether, Forspoken looks like it will be a hefty game for PC players. While this could make it a bit of a technical showcase to spotlight your rig's ability to push pixels, it's also worth noting if you're planning on using some older tech to try out the g?ame.

Fine-tuning Forspoken

Square Enix also confirms that updates have been made to Forspoken, in response to feedback from the PS5 demo that went out. Button mapping functionality has been ad??ded, which seems like a major plus. Locked-on enemies that move off-screen will remain locked-on longer. Some text sizes have also been adjusted, and "various" technical issues have been fixed.

Using a demo to gather feedback and fine-tune is something Square Enix has been doing for a little while now, and it's been working alright. Whether or not it makes a big difference for Forspoken, we won't have to wait long to see. Forspoken arrives on January 24 for PS5 and PC.
