A new set of wheels hits the Republic

Season 4 will start soon in Ubisoft's action sports game Riders Republic, and it's got a new way to ride too. BMX is coming to Riders Republic with the new season, going live on September 14.

The new season will add a new sport and career to Riders Republic. Also coming in the update are some new disciplines in street, dirt, and p??ark.

An entire new zone will be coming to Riders Republic as well, spotlightin??g A?rea 51. Maybe don't try to grind too close to where they keep the aliens.

Riders Republic is also hosting a free weekend right now, which you can hop into via the site here. The extreme sports game will also be free on Ubisoft Connect via Ubisoft Plus from September 10 through October 10. Basically, there are several ways you can dip a toe into the Riders Republic over the coming days.

I'll bring the Pepsi MAX

If you're feeling the need for speed, then you might be in luck, as Ubisoft's radical new racer Riders Republic is getting an open trial from tomorrow, October 21, until Thursday, October 27. During this one-week window, interested parties can log in and experience four hours of the rough 'n' tumble racing titl??e, ahead of its official launch on October 28.

The trial will be live on PlayStation, PC, and Xbox platforms, featuring all five of Rider's Republic's "careers", including skiing, snowboarding, downhill biking, and sky-firing wingsuit challenges. Both single-pl??ayer and online multiplayer options will be made available during the trial, including the 6v6 Trick Battle, and the cool-looking Mass Race which sees a battalion of 50 players all taking part in the same high-speed showdown. Sounds like a massacre, frankly.

Riders Republic can be considered a pseudo-follow-up to the Ubisoft series Steep, and hopes to capture the same free spirit of competitiveness and thrill-seeking that featured in the now-defunct extreme sports franchise. Riders Republic will feature a huge open world, combining a selection of real-world locations to make a singula??r map of mayhem. It looks to b??e a fun way to kill some time, (though hopefully not yourself), and the 50-player competitive modes sound like a riot.

Riders Republic hits the slopes on PlayStation, PC, Xbox, and Stadia platforms October ??28.

There's a time limit, but you can play the full game

With closed tests, open betas, delays, play-it-early perks for higher-paying customers, and "too many" games coming out all at once, it can be tough to stay on top of the release calendar unless you're super focused on the game in question. In the case of Riders Republic, an extreme sports multiplayer game in the vein of Steep (but bigger and zanier), I'm interested, and I think I'll like it, but I'm not glued to it. If you're in a similar curious-yet-unconvince?d headspace, we've got a big trial ahead of us with access to the full game.

From October 217, Ubisoft is hosting a free Riders Republic Trial Week event in which folks can play for up to four hours. It's multiplatform (across PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC via the Epic Games Store, and Stadia), and your trial pro?gress will carry over to the full game if and when you ever get i??t. I know plenty of you are committed to waiting for anything Ubisoft puts out to be discounted soon after launch, which is smart.

There's a range of activities bik??ing, snowboarding, skiing, wingsuit flying, and rocket wingsuiting and you can tear up the game's national-parks-infused open world with a wh??ole lot of other folks on your screen: 50 players on PC and current-gen consoles.

For the trial week, Ubisoft is limiting the flashy multisport Mass Races they'll be capped at 32 players on all platforms so that everyone has the "same experience" for the in-game Mad Challenge (with real-world rewards up for grabs). Other multiplayer modes include a 6v6 Tric?ks Battle, a 12-player Free For All, and a six-player Versus Mode.

The trial is said to be around 23GB (depending on your platform), and to keep your progress, you'll need to use the same Ubisoft Connect account in the trial as you do in the full version of Riders Republic. I've heard decent beta buzz, ??so I'm feeling? hopeful.

I haven't been fixated on Riders Republic quite the opposite so it's a semi-surprise to me that it's out so soon on October 28, following a few delays. It's for the best that there's an extended trial this week. I could use a refresher. And ??four h?ours might be plenty.

A Friday double-delay

Ubisoft has announced that two of its upcoming games are getting pushed back a bit. Rainbow Six Extraction is now targeting January 2022, while extreme sports sim Riders Republic has moved from September 2 to October 28.

In a statement on Rainbow Six Extraction's delay, the team says it is embracing an opportunity to take additional time to bring its vision for Extraction to life.

"We are confident that this will ensure Rainbow Six Extraction is the immersive, cooperative, and thrilling experience we set out to create, and the one you aspire ??to play," reads the news post. "We look forward to sharing more with you very soon!"

On the Riders Republic side, the team there says its delay is to ensure it can deliver the best game for all players. "This will give us more time to fine tune the experience and give you another chance to jump ??in before launch and provide feedback," the statement says. "We'll have more to share soon, so stay tuned!"

Riders Republic is also set to host a beta sometime in the future, with sign-ups still live on the Riders Republic site right now. The extreme sports sim from Ubisoft had already experienced a delay, bumping it from February of this year to later on. This new date is only a little bit later though??, so those holding out for some sports action won't have to wait too long.

Rainbow Six Extraction's delay pushes it out into the next year though. The game's gone through a number of developments, including a name change, and it's also taking the "breach-and-clear" world of Rainbow Six Siege into the co-op shooter realm. It certainly looked interesting to me when it was shown off during this year's Ubi?soft Forward stream, so hopefully the ex??tra time can help solidify what the team's aiming to do.

I completely forgot this was supposed to launch so soon

We're only two weeks into 2021 and publishers are? already ripping off the delay Band-Aid.

We haven't seen or heard much from Riders Republicjust enough that it's on the radar for Steep ?fans and people who wanted to like that game but couldn't quite get there for whatever reason. With that in mind, I'm surprised to recall that the game was supposed to come out on February 25, 2021.

That's no longer the case, as Ubisoft has pushed the date back to an open-ended "later this year."

As the Riders Republic development team put it in a short statement on Twitter,?? "This additional time will allow our passionate team to deliver the best fun-fueled experience t??o our players."

Again, we have a fairly limited picture of this game so far, but the concept – mass-multiplayer extreme sports mayhem in a game world derived from the US National Parks – has promise. There aren't many modern games like Riders Republic, so I'd ?hate ??to see them whiff it. Take the necessary time.

Besides, plenty of people are still trying to secure a PS5 or Xbox Series X/S. (I know ?it's also coming to PS4 and Xbox One, and those versions will have fewer on-screen players, but yeah. We'll see.)
