In just over a week's time, GSC Game World will release STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl, the long-awaited follow-up in the studio's cult horror FPS series. The last installment we saw was Call of Pripyat way back in 2009, so it's been a while.

In preparation for STALKER 2's release, you may need to clear some space on your hard drive. As noted by PC Gamer (and seen on the game's Steam page), you'll need storage capa?city to the tune of 150GB. It also looks like you will definitely need an SSD rather than a much slower HDD, which most people will likely have these days. Still, that's a fair amount of space needed.

To put it into perspective, Black Ops 6 "only" requires 128GB, according to Steam. Call of Duty games are often noteworthy for their hardware requirements, so seeing Heart of Chornobyl asking for about 22GB more than that feels like it's worth mentioning, in case you need to clear some space. While the Xbox site doesn't say, I imagine the console version of STALKER 2 will need the same amount of storage.

The end of a long road

It goes without saying that the game has been in development for a very long time. Perhap??s one of the biggest setbacks was GSC getting caught up in the ??middle of the war between Russia and Ukraine. The Russian invasion forced the team to relocate to Prague, where work continued.

Outside the war, the turmoil didn't end. The studio announced in June 2023 that hackers were leaking test footage from the game. Given the delays, fearing for their lives, and cyberattacks, it's by some miracle of determination that STALKER 2 is almost upon us, at last.

In fa?ct, a few days ago, a??n announcement was made that said it had finally "gone gold." This means the project is now at the point where the developer feels it's ready to launch. And launch it shall. It's been a trying time for the people at GSC, but by God, they've pulled through. Given the blows that have been dealt, maybe making room for a 150GB game isn't such a bad thing after all.

If you're into noir-inspired detective games with a hint of The Observer with a splash of BioShock, all wrapped in a cyberpunk vibe, you've probably been keeping an eye on Nobody Wants to Die. The dystopian game from newcomers Critical Hit Games has?? just released on console.

However?, what about PC players? Well, it's not due to be released on the platform for another hour or two (at the time of writing), so why don't we get to grips with the hardware specs until then? Judging by the requirements, most modern systems shouldn't have a lot of trouble, but here's a breakdown if you are looking to play on PC:

In a world...where nobody wants to die

If you're unfamiliar, Nobody Wants to Die is described as an "interactive noir story" set in New York in the year 2329. The long and the short of it is: advances in technology have enabled people to essentially have eternal life. The game is being published by PLAION, the parent company of Deep Silver (Dead Island 2, Payday 3, Metro Exodus).

The plot follows Detective James Karra who's tasked with helping young police liaison officer Sara ??Kai in pursuit of a killer who's targeting the city's elite. It sounds pretty interesting if you're into solving crimes in the underbelly of a dystopian future.

As for the PC specs, they shouldn't be too taxing for most users who keep their rig up to date every few years. We're still in the 3000 series for Nvidia RTX graphics cards, and it looks as though you can even get away with running the game at minimum recommendations with an Intel i3 processor. Now that we know when Payday 3 is coming out (September 21, if you needed a reminder), a lot of you PC gamers are going to be wondering whether your system will? handle it. It's a modern FPS, after all, but as it turns out, the hardware spec doesn't appear as though it'll be too much of a struggle for most rigs.

According to the game's Steam page, Payday 3 won't push the boat out, especially in terms of graphics. If you're just aiming for the minimum requirements, you'll need at least an Intel Core i5-9400F (or the AMD equivalent) and 16GB of RAM. You should also get by with no more than the 4GB power of an ??Nvidia GTX 1650.

Obviously, the recommended sp??ecs are a bit higher, but even then they don't seem too bad. For the CPU, you'll be wanting an i7-9700K, and you'll be able to get away with an Nvidia GTX 1080 (or, again, whatever Team Red's ??version of that is).

The full Payday 3 PC system requirements

No RTX card required

For a AAA shooter published by the likes of Deep Silver, you'd be forgiven for thinking the PC requirements would be much higher. It's probably worth saying that Payday 3 is still in development, but there's no reason to suggest what's listed on Steam will change. As it stands, most graphics card??s from the GTX 1000 series onwards should suffice.

Given that, according to the latest Steam hardware survey, there's a heavy mix of GPUs, these system requirements should be within easy reach of a lot of you. The aforementioned GTX 1650 accounted for the most usage f?or June (5.67%), and there are a few PC gamers who are said to be using 3000 series products, so it should be a breeze to ru??n the game for many.

How HD will the Lombax be?

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is finally coming to PC via Steam on July 26. In preparation for the launch, the team responsible for the port posted the adventure platformer's PC specs in a PlayStation Blog post. With the port, ?Nixxes Software is also adding some new features to enhance the ga??me.

In an effort to enable quick loading and instant transition between areas, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart will include DirectStorage. This technology allows NVMe Solid ??State Drives, SATA Solid State Drives, and some traditional hard disk drives to quickly decompress and load textures.

Furthermore, the PC port will also feature Ray-Trace??d Ambient Occlusion with multiple quality levels to choose from. Finally, Nixxes Software has implemented Intel's XeGTAO technology.

“XeGTAO generates a very high-resolution ambient occlusion that shows even the smallest details in geometry,�says Nixxes Software Graphics Programmer Menno Bil. “Overall, the output quality of XeGTAO is very high and results in a pleasant look.�/p>

Them sweet, sweet low settings

The pre-load is now live for Capcom's stellar sequel Street Fighter 6 �But if you're thinking of picking up the new scrapper on PC, and want to be sur?e that your rig is up to snuff, then a new benchmark tool is now available, offering an analysis of your PC component's ahead of Friday's launch.

Once downloaded, (from right here), the tool performs a Shader Warming process, before running a typical one-on-one matchup, taking a wander around the Battle Hub, and exploring a little bit of World Tour. At the end of the demo, your PC i?s graded out of 100 on its ability to run the new fighter at varying settings levels. If you so wish, you can fine-tune the settings and then run the tool again.

It should also be noted that there is a demo already available on Steam, which will give you an equally good impression of how to set your PC for Street Fighter 6. Both of these options should provide you with a relatively accurate estimation of the optimal settings for your rig. Oh, and the Benchmark Took ?is also a surprisingly meaty 15 GB, so bear that in mind before you suck up that precious bandwidth.

One more ride on the merry-go-round...

Following on from its official reveal at last week's Game Awards, studio Housemarque has released the PC specifications for its wicked, chrono-confusing blaster Returnal �which, fol?lowing its celebrated run on PS5, will finally be headed to the PC platform (via Steam) in early 2023.

As those who have played Returnal will attest, the sci-fi epic is a visually dazzling experience, jam-packed with sparkling effects, intricately designed enemies, and almost constant, even chaotic, action setpieces. The "Recommended" PC specs reflect this, asking for a pretty beefy 32GB in RAM, as well as an nVidia RTX 2070 (8GB) and a six-core processor. In addition, the specs strongly recommend that Returnal be installed on an SSD??, with a footprint of 60GB.

Minimum specifications were also provided, which tones down the memory drain to 16GB and the graphics card to a more modest GTX 1060. But given that part of Returnal's appeal is its visual brilliance, one can't help but wonder how much of the experience might be lost in translation. Housemarque is nothing if not a fine developer, particularly when it comes to the technical side of gaming. So hopefully Returnal will be ready to rock for its grand debut on PC, allowing a wider audience to experience this trigger-pumping int?erstellar experience.

Where no one can hear your CPU scream

Today sees the arrival of Krafton's sci-fi horror adventure The Callisto Protocol �The super-gory trek into an abandoned space penitentiary launches today on PlayStation, PC, and Xbox platforms, and trailers depict an atmosphe??ric adventure that features high visual fidelity and an emphasis on atmosphere. As such, PC players may have concerns as to whether their rig can ru?n the shiny-looking shocker.

Never fear, as developer Striking Distance Studios has released the PC specifications required in order to, (on paper at least), bring the grim gore of The Callisto Protocol splashing onto your monitors. I'll have to admit, it's a pretty beefy ask, with the Recommended settings asking for a higher-end graphi??cs card and a pretty powerful CPU. Turn down the settings and things are a little more achievable �though ??you'll definitely want 16GB of RAM for Max settings regardless.

It should be noted that, with the embargo now clear, some reviewers are complaining of lag, stuttering, and other issues in regard to the PC release. While these are purely testimonial evidence supplied by each individual reviewer, it is a concern ?that has seemingly cropped up for several pre-launch players. So thos?e planning and popping monster heads on desktop would be wise to do a little investigation before pulling the trigger on the Steam edition.

All those lil' critters need some oomph

Focus Entertainment and Team Asobo have released the final PC requirements for their incoming stealth sequel A Plague Tale: Requiem. The grim-looking adventure is currently schedul??ed to launch on PS5, PC, and Xbox ?Series X on October 18.

A Plague Tale: Requiem will tell of the continuing tale of orphaned children Hugo and Amicia de Rune, violently torn from their aristocratic family and thrust into a miserable world of death and disease �??pursued by both The Inquisition and a terrifying army of needle-teethed black rats. The sequel will see the de Rune as they country their epic journey through 16th century France, outnumbered and outgunned.

Despite being a so-called "AA" release, predecessor A Plague Tale: Innocence was an incredibly attractiv??e title with highly detailed worlds and lavish lighting and visual effects. As such, it would figure that the French developer would go all-in on new-gen for the sequel, in order to further realize its amb??ition of creating and grimly gorgeous world.

Younger Rig

The moment of truth is upon us, as developer FromSoftware has officially released the PC specifications required in order to play its insanely anticipated adventure title, Elden Ring. The hugely hyped fantasy RPG will finally be let loose on PlayStation, PC, and Xb?ox p?latforms on February 25.

It should come as little surprise to anybody that the visually splendid title requires something o??f a pretty hefty powerbase in order to get it up-and-running, let alone operate in all of its regal glory. For the minimum spec, players will want an Nvidia GeForce 1060 3GB or AMD Radeon RX 580 4GB video card, along with 12GB of RAM and a processor equal to an i5 8400 or a Ryzen 3 3300X... It's not looking good for yer boy.

If you pass the initial bar, then FromSoft recommends that your rig sports processor equivalent to an i7 8700K or a Ryzen 5 3600X, along with 16GB of RAM and a powerful Nvidia GeForce 1070 8GB / AMD Radeon RX Vega 56 8GB video card. In either case, Elden Ring is expected to take up around 60GB of HDD space... I mean, I have that, if nothing else.

Of course, Elden Ring is also available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. While I'm sure all of the above platforms will provide an engaging and impressive jaunt through The Lands Between, clearly FromSoft is hoping that players will push as hard as they are able for a "next-gen" experience. Personally, I might have to just settle for wearing the hoodie instead.
