Cult adventure story Syberia is being adapted into a new animated series �The announcement was made by game publisher?? Microids and production company WHAT THE PROD, who will work together to see Benoit Sokal’s tales of explo??ration and mystery brought to life in a whole new medium.

While details are slim at this time, the animated series is expected to be a direct adaptation of the long-running adventure series, that began in 1999 with the release of PC adventure Amerzone, itself an adaptation of Sokal's 1986 comic-book series of the same name. In 2002, the first Syberia game was released for PC, PS2, and Xbox, following the escapades of explorer Kate ?Walker, as she journeys across Europe and into Russia in a tale of mystery and self-realization.

These releases were then followed by three sequels, which further depict Walker's odyssey as she delves into unexplored terrain and forgotten civilizations. Sadly, Sokal would p??ass in 2021, during the development of the most recent entry Syberia: The World Before, but this animated series is hopeful of introducing a whole new generation of fans to their world and characters.

"My husband would have been honored to witness his work being developed as an animated series," said Martine Sokal of the new project. "With Syberia, he created a magical and out-of-time world and I am glad it will reach a new audience?? with this new adaptation."

The new series producers spoke of their drive to deliver a high-quality, authentic series that will please fans and newcomers, citing the critically acclaimed adaptation Arcane: A League of Legends Story as the standard that they are looking to achieve?.

"20 years after the release of the first episode of Syberia, our ambition is to ??craft an animated series inspired by the game’s incredible universe, speaking to the fans as well as newcomers thanks to a modern writing style paying tribute to these very best dystopian and uchronic masterpieces," said WHAT THE PROD President Ashargin Poire. "The art direction, the type and quality of animation will guarantee a mind-blowing experience halfway between reality and fantasy."

The Syberia animated ser?ies is in pre-pro?duction. A release window was not announced.

The world of Dead by Daylight expands to new projects

Behaviour Interactive has announced two new spin-off games for asymmetrical horror game Dead by Daylight. Supermassive Games and Midwinter Entertainment are both working on spin-off projects within the Dead by Daylight universe.

Announced today during the Dead by Daylight 7th Anniversary stream, we've got a few details about what each team is working on. Here's the relevant section of today's stream, via Gematsu:

Supermassive Games, well-known for titles like Until Dawn and The Quarry, is making what you'd expect: an "intense, narrative" game with life-or-death choices, set in the omniverse of Dead by Daylight. It will have a new cast of characters, too. It seems like a pretty natural fit, as Supermassive's games have consistently tackled the horror genre from various angles, and Dead by Daylight is all about its horror lineage too.

Meanwhile, Midwinter Entertainment is taking a bit of a different approach. You might know Midwinter from multiplayer survival shooter Scavengers, which shut down last December. Behaviour picked the team up in May prior to that. Midwinter is working on ??a new multiplayer PvE game, where teams of up to four players take on a new danger, centered around greed and the lust for power.

Neither game got a title or release date.

A new daylight dawns

It's an interesting but intriguing development for Dead by Daylight. I'll admit, I tend to associate Dead by Daylight more with cross-overs than spin-offs. But the horror game has become pretty popular, even popular enough to spin off one game already in its dating sim Hooked on You.

For continued exp?ansion of the universe, you could do worse than getting a studio like Supermassive to work on a single-player horror experience. And I'm curious about Midwinter's project too, and whether that veers more into a survival-horror realm. We'll see as the teams share more in the future.

Mystery project now has a 'new framework'

CD Projekt RED has confirmed that it is now continuing development of 'Project Sirius',? an as-yet-untitled spin-off set with the high fantasy universe of The Witcher. The project, first announced in October of 2022, was paused in March, with CDPR telling investors it required re-evaluation.

But in a Regulatory Announcement posted yesterday afternoon, the Polish de??veloper noted that the title was back on track, with some of the development fun??ds from the first quarter of the year written off entirely. According to the statement, Project Sirius now has a "reformulated framework" which is "[better] aligned with [CDPR's] strategy." The written-off development funded is noted as being in the region of $650,000 USD.

As to what form Project Sirius will take, that remains known only to CDPR and the title's developer, Boston-based studio The Molasses Flood. Back in October, the project was described as having a broader scope than traditional Witcher titles, with a focus on both single and multiplayer support as well as an "innovative" take on the Witcher universe.

One element that is for sure, however, is that the new title is still a long, long way from hitting store shelves, and CDPR will remain currently focused on its long-time-coming Cyberpunk 2077 DLC, Phantom Liberty, which is still yet to confirm its (suppose??d) 2023 release date.

New Studio Trigger series launches this fall

Netflix has released the first teaser trailer for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, the brand new anime series set within the neon nightmare universe of CD Projekt RED RPG Cyberpunk 2077. The new video gives us our first look at the animated show in action, following on from its initial announcement back in 2020.

The minute-plus teaser chooses to go with an "assault on the senses" vibe, foregoing plot details or character introductions for wild visuals, atmospheric vistas, and pulse-pounding music. The anime instinctively carries the vibe of its production team, Studio Trigger, which is known for its acclaimed work on shows such as Kill la Kill, Little Witch Academia, and Star Wars: Visions. In this trailer, we get a lil' of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners violence, a lil' of its romance, a lil' of its crazy tech, and, of course, the obligatory Akira-esque bike chase.

It's a pretty?? good debut, but ??we'll have to wait for the first episode to really get a taste of the action.

The rough narrative outline for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners concerns the escapades of a young street punk who, with nothing left to lose, falls in with a band of digital mercenaries-for-hire, known in the universe as "Edgerunners." The 10-episode a??nime will follow the protagonist and their new comrades as t?hey pick their way through the oppressive, opulent, and highly hazardous neon nightmare that is Night City.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners will launch exclusively on Net?flix this Septembe?r.

New games are in store, too

Sega is looking to strengthen the branding of its many franchises. For fans of their older games, this might be a good thing, as Sega is saying it plans on making more remakes, remasters, and other related content in the coming fiscal?? year.

In Sega Sammy's annual financial report, the company established some of its plans for the future. One of these is prolonging product life cycles, through games Sega defines as a remake, remaster, spin-off, or change of theme. Examples given range from Lost Judgement and Sonic Colors: Ultimate to Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania.

In fiscal year? 2022, that category pulled in about 4M unit sales; in the 2023 fiscal year, it plans for about 5M unit sales, and is planning multiple titles to do so. As a reminde?r: Sega's fiscal year runs April to March, so this coming fiscal year will be from April 2022 through March 2023.

Sega also outlines its general gaming plans for the coming year, where it estimates to have 13 titles (up from 7 last fiscal year). The publisher only lists games we know about already, like Sonic Frontiers and Soul Hackers 2. S?till, an overall increase in game output looks likely from Sega in the coming year.

Gotta remake fast

We can probably take a guess at some of the new games in store. A recent report from Bloomberg indicated Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio were on deck for Sega's "Super Game" initiative, though with some concerning details in the fine print.

As for other projects, well, we can always plumb the depths of Sega's past. We've already seen some movement on franchises like Sonic the Hedgehog with the upcoming Origins collection. Is it too much to hope for Skies of Arcadia? Surely the sky?? pirate faithful out there would be eager for one.
