Two days in and the GTA 6 trailer is nearly at 120 million views on YouTube. It's become one of the most-watched video game trailers in history, but it's not just benefitting Rockstar. It's als??o seeing ?a revival of a music legend.

According to data sent to the BBC by Spotify, the recent GTA 6 reveal ha??s seen interest in the late rock musician Tom Petty soar, thanks to his song "Love Is A Long Road" being featured in the tease?r. Streams for the track �first released in 1989 �have increased by 36,979%.

Yes, I had to do a double take as well, because that's a comma, not a period. Nearly a 37,000% uptick in one song's popularity is insane, but given the hype around the upcoming Grand Theft Auto entry, it's perhaps not too surprising.

Rock never dies

After ten years of waiting, Rockstar finally gave us a taste of things to come in GTA 6. Sadly, we still have a bit longer to wait until it releases, as it's only due to come out in 2025. We don't even have an exact date. All we know is it'll be available on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. No word on when PC will get it,?? though.

With Tom Petty's song being given a new lease on life, it calls into question what other tracks will be in the game itself. As a series, Grand Theft Auto is known? for its soundtrack, featurin?g a slew of classics from many artists and bands.

On a personal note: it absolutely blew my mind when I first heard Slayer's "Raining Blood" on Vice City's V-Rock station. Ah, good times.

67 songs, including a bunch of boss music

You can count on FromSoftware to deliver memorable music, and if you're in an Elden Ring mood but aren't quite ready to commit to (yet another?) playthrough right now, you can at least soak up the vibes while going about your day-to-day. The Elden Ring soundtrack is now streaming on Spotify, YouTube Music, Amazon Music, Apple Music, and other platforms �here's a handy catch-all link �and at 67 songs, it's a big collection.

It's the obvious pick, but thinking back, I can't shake the game's main theme. Ahead of a long journey, it felt so empowering and ominous. Every time I would start up the game, I'd just hover th?ere on the menu, waiting for the music to hype me back up before continuing.

Speaking on the PlayStation Blog, composer Tsukasa Saito says that the title theme �"Elden Ring" �is the track he's "most emotional??ly attached to."

"We spent a long time obsessing over and?? fine-tuning the details and tonal qualities of this piece, and I think as a result we achieved something that embodies the themes of the game, and became a strong directional pillar for the rest of the music," Saito continued.

"I think we made a good piece for when players start up the game, stirring their motivation and excitement for heading out on their adventure to become Elden Lo?rd."

Early on, the team honed in on words and phrases like "an epic tale," "composure and resilience," and "eloquence," which certainly sound like themes in a Hidetaka Miyazaki game. FromSoftware wanted the Elden Ring soundtrack to "reflect the fact that this was something different from the Dark Souls series or Bloodborne," according to Saito.

It's a big game with an appropriately big soundtrack. Bouncing around, you'll spot tracks for familiar locations like Limgrave, Caelid, and Leyndell, the music for the character creator, and many boss-focused tracks, as is customary. There are boss spoilers.

We've had plenty to say about Elden Ring this year, and those conversations will carry into the eventual game of the year discourse. Listening to the music, it's all rushing back t?o me.

Kojima is coming at you in audio form

Hideo Kojima is one of the most prolific game developers of all time, and now he's launching his very own podcast to share his expertise with the world.? During the Gamescom stream, Geoff brought in his "very good friend" Kojima, who said that while he's known for the games he makes, he was "here today to share some other news," that his "podcast program will be available exclusively on Spotify." Kojima will have various guests on the podcast from across various disciplines in the industry, so it looks like we're going to get a pretty in-depth look at the work of a wide variety of developers.

The podcast will be available with both Japanese and English audio, with simultaneous translation. Geoff Keighley will also be involved with a segment to give players up-to-date industry news. The first episode of the podcast will be available in only a few weeks, dropping officially on September 8. The podcast is officially titled Brain Structure, which seems pretty fitting for Kojima and his brand. Kojima is still working on games, by the way �??it seems that this is just ??a side project.

So many gamers admire Kojima and all of the work he's d??one, so I'm betting this is going to be a huge success for Spotify. I know I'll be interested in hearing more and seeing what the feel of the podcast is �game development podcasts and be a ton of fun, if you're inte?rested in that kind of thing.

The music-guessing game will be 'more fully' integrated into Spotify down the road

The New York Times scooped up Wordle, and now Spotify has come for Heardle, another popular daily pastime. D??id you catch the logo at the t??op of the game's site?

The music trivia game will retain its same "look and feel," and "it'll remain free to play for everyone," according to He??ardle??'s new owner, Spotify. The rollout will hit users in the United States, United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand first. With any sort of changing hands, I'd expect hiccups; our own CJ had temporarily missing stats.

There is one change already: at the end of your gu??essing, you'll now see a listing for the day's full song?? �with the idea being that you'll stick around and listen to it on Spotify. The company sees Heardle as a fun social challenge, and a "tool for musical discovery."

"Heardle has proven to be a really fun way to connect millions of fans with songs they know and love and with new songs... and a way to compete with their friends as to who has the best musical knowledge," said Spotify's global head of music, Jeremy Erlich, in a press statement. "Since its debut, the game has quickly built a loyal following, and it alig?ns with our plans ??to deepen interactivity across the Spotify ecosystem."

What's next for Heardle

The company also announced plans to bring Heardle to "hundreds of millions more people around the world" in "their native?? language." And furthe??r out, Spotify plans to "integrate Heardle and other interactive experiences more fully into Spotify to allow music lovers to connect more deeply with artists and challenge friends." Brace for synergy!

While Wordle is my one true compete-with-the-fam jam, Heardle has proven popular with my parents, and I hope corporate moves don't ultimately sour a good thing. Are there any new gaming spin-offs? I've long since tapped out of Sonic and Resident Evil Heardle.

My mind is too fast for eyes...

While each and every title of the Persona franchise is typified by its delicious, captivating soundtracks, perhaps no entry blew up as that of 2016's Persona 5. In particular, battle theme "Last Surprise" was everywhere, with i??ts "You'll never see it com-innnnng" refrain going viral �borderline mainstream.

Today, you can check out all of the smooth jazz stylings of the JRPG all over again, as the soundtracks for Persona 5 and its 2019 revamp, Persona 5 Royal, have been uploaded to the music streaming service Spotify. In addition, the OST for 2020 muso-like Persona 5 Strikers has also joined the party. That's well over 100 tracks and? hours of slick grooves, ready and waiting to fulfill your heart-stealing, metaverse-running, reaper-hunting ??needs.

With the addition of these Persona 5 scores, the Spotify Persona 5 playlist is almost complete. As previously noted by Siliconera, all that remains is the soundtrack to the great rhythm action title Persona 5: Dancing in Starlight. This remaining release is conspicuous by its absence, given that the scores for both Persona 3: Dancing in Moonlight and Persona 4: Dancing All Night are already available on the service. Ehh, I'm sure we'll get there all in good time. Until then, this Spotify collection will be a little kinder to your wallet than rolling out some major dough for the (admittedly awesome) Persona 25th Anniversary Boxset.
