The Words of Wisdom scroll is an incredibly useful item in Dragon Quest 3, as it allows you to turn one of your party members into a Sage. Sages are very powerful and capable of learning more spells than any other profession in Dragon Quest 3

In the original release of Dragon Quest 3 way back in 1988, there was only one possible location where you could find the sole Words of Wisdom scroll. When it was re-released on Game Boy Advance in 2001, a second Words of Wisdom scroll was added in?? a new location.

Thankfully, the Dragons Quest 3 2D-HD remake carries forward this additional scroll, so you can have a total of two Sages in your party once you reach the end-game stag??e.

The two Words of Wisdom scrolls are separated by both land and how far you’ve progressed through the main story of Dragon Quest 3. The first scroll is easily obtainable relatively early, even before you’ve picked up the Black Pepper required by the King of Portoga before he’ll give you a ship. The second is only obtainab??le at a late-??game stage, once you've traveled to Alefgard.

To get the first scroll, you’ll need to head to the Tower of Tra?nscendence. If you’ve not previously visited the location, you can use the Zoom spell or a Chimaera Wing to fast-trave?l to Alltrades Abbey, then take the mountain passage to the north.

Navigating the Tower of Transcendence can be tricky, as it’s a veritable maze of dead ends and Teleportals. We have full instructions available, but here’s the bullet ??point version that will guide you to the Words of Wisdom scroll inside the Tower of Transcendence:

  • Go up the stairs in the top left corner of the first floor
  • Cross the tightrope and go down the stairs on the other side
  • Step on the teleportal, then go up the middle set of stairs
  • Go up the southern stairs
  • Go up the north stairs
  • Ascend the spiraling staircase to the south
  • Cross the tightrope to the middle and jump down
  • Jump down the hole in the ceiling
  • Go down the stairs, then continue heading east to find the Words of Wisdom scroll

Rimuldar Words of Wisdom scroll

Although getting this scroll is muc?h easier, because there’s no maze-like structure to navigate, it is something that you’ll have to wait for and work towards. After you’ve unlocked access to Alefgard at a later stage in your playthrough, the second Words of Wisdom scroll will be obtainable.

Head straight for the town of Rimuldar, then head north. In the northern part of Rimuldar, you’ll see two houses that are connected. The left house has some valuable and useful items, so it's worth exploring, but if?? you want the Words of Wisdom scroll, you’ll need to take it from the house on the right.

Inside the house, there’s a dresser that can be interacted with. Opening the drawer will reward you with the second (and final) Words of Wisdom scroll that’s included in the Dragon Quest 3 2D-HD remake. Now you can head back to Alltrades Abbey an?d turn a second party?? member into another Sage, but bear in mind the consequences of this move before pulling the trigger.

One of the new creatures introduced to Final Fantasy XIV as part of the Dawntrail expansion was the Punutiy, which are essentially?? the Manatees of Etheirys. Now, as of the 7.1 patch, players can get their very own airborne version, and it’s ??very cute.

According to the limited lore that we have surrounding Punutiys, they are used to tow riverboats through Tural. However, 7.1 add?ed another leve??l to the lore, and apparently, the Hanu Hanu used to imbue the Punutiy with the power of the wind, allowing them to glide gracefully through the skies to transport items and people over the waterfalls of Kozama’uka.

As if a flying Punutiy wasn’t enough of a tempting p??rospect, this mount also comes with an action called Bosom Brook, which will send the Punutiy spi??nning around and showing off their water-based gymnastics, regardless of how high up in the air you are.

How to get the Punutiy mount in FFXIV

To get the Punutiy mount, you’ll first need to unlock the Pelupelu Allied Society. We have a full guide on this, but here’s the bullet point list:

  • Own the Dawntrail expansion
  • Have at least one Disciple of War or Magic Job at level 90 or above
  • Pick up and complete the level 90 quest called “An Intrepid New Enterprise" from the Blue-garbed Pelu in Tuliyollal (X:13.6, Y:12.9)

Once you’ve completed this quest, you’ll have access to daily Pelupelu Allie??d Society quests.

You can pick up three quests per day unless you increas?e your rank with the Pelupelu, which will allow you to take on three extra quests that day for a total of six quests. Each complete daily quest will reward one Pelu Pelplume.

Respected rank with the Pelupelu in Final Fantasy XIV

The Punutiy mount will become available in exchange for Pelu Pelplumes once you’ve reached the Respected rank with the Pelupelu. That means you have to increase your rank twice and earn a total of 720 reputation. While that? seems like a lot, it’s achievable within a week, so it won’t take you long to get your Punutiy.

A word of advice: The Wind-up Pelupelu minion unlocks once you hit Trusted rank. ??If you want to be able to purchase the Punutiy Horn as soon as it becomes available, I’d recommend not purchasing the Wind-up Pelupelu when it becomes available, as doing so will leave you short by a few Pelplumes by the time you unlock the Punutiy mount.

The Tower of Transcendence is a dungeon location in Dragon Quest 3. Unlike other dungeons, there is no major boss a??waiting you at the end, and the challenge of the Tower of Transcendence lies more in navigating it, rather than overcoming it.

Perhaps the most pressing reason to visit the Tower of Transcendence in Dragon Quest 3 is to get your hands on a Words of Wisdom scroll. This is a necessary item if you want to turn any of your party members into a Sage, which is an incr?edibly ?strong and useful class to have on the side.

Dragon Quest 3 Tower of Transcendence location

The Tower of Transcendence is located on the eastern side of the main continent, just to the northeast of Alltrades Abbey. The easiest way to get there if you?ve never been before is by using the Zoom spell or a Chimaera Wing to head straight for Alltrades Abbey, then head through the mountain passag??e to the north.

You’ll find the Tower of Transcendence on?? a small peninsula at the end of the passage??, to the west.

Navigating the Tower of Transcendence

As the main reason ??to visit the Tower of Transcendence is to get the Words of Wisdom scroll, I’ll focus on the directions for that purpose. However, once you’ve got the scroll, you should take some time to explore all routes and battle as much as possible, because the Tower of Transcendence i??s filled with loot to find and a great location to do some leveling.

Here’s how to locate the Words of Wisdom scroll inside? the Tower of Tr??anscendence:

1- Enter the Tower of Transcendence and avoid all of the Teleportals, as they’ll take you miles off course. Instead, make your way to the top left corner of the map, taking the stair??case in the corner up to the second floor.:

2- W??alk across the tightrope, being careful not to fall off. If you’re using a controller and struggling with this, you can use the D-Pad to make things easier. At the other end of the tightrope, take the stairs down on the other side back to the first floor:

3- Step on? the only available Teleportal, and when you pop out on the other side there will be three possible routes. The only one that can take you all the way to floor five is the middle one, so take that route:

The route you need to take in the Tower of Transcendence in Dragon Quest 3

4- There are three possible routes to take now, but you??ll want to head up the southernmost staircase. Depending on your POV, this staircase may look inaccessible, but keep walking to the right and you’ll soon find the bottom step:

5- There’s a chest here to open, and only a single staircase. Follow the stairs up t??o the fourth floor, then head south and continue up the southern winding staircase up to the fifth floor:

6- Now you’ll encounter another tightrope. If you’re looking for the Words of Wisdom scroll, you’ll need to cross to the halfway point (where the red flag is) and then purposefully fall off t??o fall down to the fourth floor again:

7- When you land on the four?th floor, drop down into the hole where the roof has collapsed, heading back down to the th??ird floor again:

8- Once you’re on the third floor, take the only available staircase back down to the second floor, then head to the east until you find the chest conta??ining the Words of Wisdom scroll.

Phew. Now that you have the Words of Wisdom s?croll, feel free to use the Zoom spell or a Chimaera Wing to get out of this endlessly confusing maze. If you want to keep exploring, your best bet is to use Zoom or a Chimaera Wing to return to the beginning of the Tower of Transcendence, and then begin your adventure anew from there.

One thing that’s worth noting about the enemies you’ll encounter while adventuring through the Tower of Transcendence is that they will get more difficult to overcome as you progress to higher levels. While enemie??s may not seem too challenging on lower floors, you’ll need to have your wits about you and a stock of healing it??ems on hand in order to get through the battles you’ll enter.

Possibly the toughest enemies you’re likely to encounter are the Ethereal Serpen?ts. They have strong fire-type attacks, and can easily wipe the party out if you go in unprepared. However, they’re weak to water, earth, and poison-type spells.

It’s also worth noting that once you hit floor five of the Tower of Transcendence, there’s a slim chance that you can encounter some Metal Slimes ?in the room before you cross the? fifth-floor tightrope. These offer a huge amount of XP for all party members when defeated, but they’re not easy to take down.

The only way to damage them is with basic weapon attack??????????????????????????s, so you’ll need to make sure that you have the strongest possible weapons equipped on all party members. On the plus side, defeating Metal Slimes is an excell?ent way to speed-level the party, so it’s worth going through the hassle if you encounter them.

Here are all of the enemies you’ll encounter on the way up ??the Tower? of Transcendence:

  • Shade
  • Rumble Bee
  • Lump Mage
  • Ram Raider
  • Whackanape
  • Garuda
  • Beakon
  • Ethereal Serpent
  • Dread Admiral
  • Metal Slime

As you explore the Tower of Transcendence, you’ll come across a few chests containing useful items other than the Words of Wisdom scroll, including a Mini Medal

Here are all of the chests that are worth seeking out while exploring the Tower of Transcende?nce and how to find them:

Item Floor How to find
Sparring Suit 1F To the south of the middle Teleportal at the main entrance
Dieamend 3F From where you found Catula, head up the staircase to the fourth floor
Silver Tiara 3F Take the northern staircase on the first floor and keep going to the third floor
Mini Medal 3F Take the southern staircase on the first floor, and continue all the way to third floor
Battle Fork 4F Take the stairs down from the west side of the fifth floor
Hermes Hat 5F Once you reach the fifth floor, head to the west and and go up the staircase

There’s also a friendly monster that can be found and rescued inside the Tower of Transcendence. To find Alutac the friendly Catula and send it off to Monty, ?head to the southwest staircase on the first floor and climb up to find it in the m?iddle of the next room.

Right at the very beginning of Dragon Quest 3, you’ll be given a personality ??test to decide upon your stats. Each personality type has different strengths and weaknesses, ??so leaving it down to chance can cause a lot of issues further down the line.

Some personality types are definitely preferable to others in DQ3, with the Vamp personality giving the most evenly balanced s?tats. However, the Vamp personality type is restricted to female Heroes.

On the plus side, it is possible to fix your stats using Stat Seeds that are collected as you play, so even if you get a personality type that doesn’t suit your preferred gameplay style, it’s not the end of the world. And if you’re truly un??happy with your given personality, you can also change it?? using items or accessories.

There are a lot of vocations in Dragon Quest 3, but one of the best and favorite of players??, both old and new, is Sage. They have the widest variety of spells and the largest amount of MP, ??so it’s worth having one at your party.

Unfortunately, the Sage class is locked behind a list of requirements that make it difficult to get a Sage for your party. It’s not impossible, by any means, but you will have to put forth some effort before you can thrust one of your party members into the Sage life. It's also w?orth noting that you cannot become a Sage yourself and must instead choose someone else to take up the role.

Befo??re you can make someone a Sage, you’ll have to do the following:

  • Have the party member reach at least level 20
  • Either obtain the Words of Wisdom scroll or have the intended future Sage be a Gadabout
  • Navigate the Tower of Transcendence, which is easier said than done without concise instructions

If this all sounds a little complicate??d, that’s because it is. But don’t worry, I’ve got y??ou covered.

How to get the Words of Wisdom scroll in Dragon Quest 3

It’s most likely that you don’t already have a member of your party who is of the Gada?bout class, and if that’s the case, then you’ll need to obtain the Words of Wisdom scroll before you can even think of turning your intended Sage into one.

In order to get the Words of Wisdom scroll, you’ll need to navigate the Tower of Tra?nscendence, which is kind of a pain at the best of times. It’s a maze of dead ends and non-linear entrances and exits, plus there are Teleportals put there simply to confuse you.

Navigating the Tower of Transcendence

To reach the Wor?ds of Wisdom scroll, you’ll need to make your way to floor two of the Tower of Transcendence. This sounds easy, but it’s complicated by the fact that there is no way to reach the section of floor two that you need directly from floor 1, and you actually need to make your way all the way up to floor five before taking a leap of faith off a tightrope. No, seriously.

In the interests of making this as easy as possible, let’s break this down into manageabl?e instructions with pictures for those who are more visually inclined:

1- Enter the Tower of Transcendence and make your way to the top l??eft corner of the map, taking the staircase up to the second floor:

2- Wa?lk across the tightrope, being careful not to fall off (yes, you can fa??ll off) and then take the stairs down on the other side back to the first floor:

3- Step on the Teleportal, then take the middle staircase up to ??the second ??floor:

4- Take the southernmost staircase up to the third floor. This staircase looks like it can’t be accessed, but keep walking south and you’ll climb up??:

5- Follow the sta??irs up to the fourth floor, then continue up the southern winding staircase up to the fifth floor:

6- Cross the tightrope on the fifth floor, but this time, you actually want to fall off near the red flag in the middle??, dropping you down to the fourth floor again:

7- Drop down into the hole where the roof is collapsed, heading down to? the third floor:

8- Take the stairs down to ?the second floor, then keep going east until you find the chest containing the Words of Wisdom scroll.

Phew. Now that you have the Words of Wisdom scroll f??eel free to use the Zoom spell or a Chimaera Wing to get out of this endlessly co??nfusing maze.

Now that you’ve got the Words of Wisdom scroll, you ca??n head to Alltrades Abbey and talk to the Abbot to change vocations for your intended Sage. With the Words ?of Wisdom scroll in your Important Items storage, the option for Sage will be added to the list of vocational possibilities. All that’s left to do is confirm, and you’ll have a Sage in your party.

However, there is a huge caveat to bear in mind before pulling the trigger. Mainly, the new Sage will have their level reduced back down to 1, so they’re going to be weakened compared to the rest of the party, but their stats will only reduce by roughly half. This means that you’ll need to speed-level them by carrying them through some tough battles, but it sh?ouldn’t take too long to get their level back up.

When you’ve changed someone’s vocation to Sage, their equipment and appearance will change, but they’ll re??tain the knowledge of any spel??ls and abilities that they previously knew. As such, it might be worth leveling up a party member as high as they can possibly go before changing their vocation to Sage, as they will have more spells to call upon.

In total, there are six pages of spells that it is possible for a Sage to le?arn, so they really are incredibly useful and power??ful to have on your side.

With Dragon Quest HD-2D Remake having finally arrived, players old and new are diving into the game. One new thing that players can do as they? progress and explore is rescue and recruit friendly monsters, and there are a lot of them.

Friendly monsters are the same monsters that you fight regularly while exploring the overworld and dungeons of Dragon Quest 3, but they har??bor no ill-will or murderous inte??nt towards you. Instead, you can approach them and send them off to Monty at the Monster Arena in Romaria.

Some overall tips for finding friendly monsters in Dragon Quest 3

NPCs can give hints about friendly monsters in Dragon Quest 3

While making your way along the Path of Promise, you’ll encounter Monty for the first time after a frien?dly Slime crosses your path. Monty will tell you all about friendly monsters before retiring to the Monster Arena in Romaria. The slime, named Splatrick, will be your first friendly monster and automatically be added to your list.

After that point, it’s entirely up to you. You’ll now be able to discover friendly monsters in secret areas, towns, and dungeons, but they’re not alw?ays obvious. To make this easier on yourself, here are a few ba?sic tips to follow.

Recruit a Monster Wrangler to your party

They may not be the strongest of classes, but having a Monster Wrangler with you will significantly increase your chances of finding all of DQ3’s friendly monsters. Monster Wranglers have an ability call?ed Animal Instinct, which can be used to see if there are any friendly monsters nearby, wherever you happen to be at the time.

Animal Instinct in Dragon Quest 3

If there is a monster within the same screen as you, you’ll be notified that a monster is “ready to be wrangled nearby.?If a monster is on the next screen slightly further afield, you’ll be told that a monster is “not too far away.?You??’ll also be told if a monster can be found in your current location at a different time of day.

If you don’t ??have a Monster Wrangler in your party, it’s not the end of the world, but it will make things slightly more difficult. You can use abilities such as Padfoot, spells such as Fade, or items like Musk to approach and rescu??e skittish monsters.

Locate or purchase the things you’ll need

While off on a friendly monster hunt, there are a few items you will need to rescue certain, more skittish monsters. The most commonly required items are Ra’s Mirror and Everbird, but you’l??l also need t??o gain the Ultimate Key and a Boat through progressing with the main story.

Talk to the locals

As you venture through various towns and other locations, remember to talk to the NPCs there. Sometimes, they'll give handy hints about monsters that have been showing up nea?rby, and they'll even tell you when you? can find them if they have time restraints.

How to battle with friendly monsters in Dragon Quest 3

Friendly mons??ters can be used in an??y Monster Arena to take part in friendly battles. You don’t get to control their actions, but you can manage tactics, just as you do in any battle with your party.

You can select three monsters that you’ve rescued to make up your party and then enter the battle against an NPC with their own team of monsters. Eac?h rank has three matches to complete, and winning those three matches will?? allow you to enter into battle at a higher rank.

There is an entry fee for the monster arena, with rank 1 costing 100 Gold, rank 2 costing 200 Gold, and so forth. However, you do win monetary rewar??ds, so you’re not losing out on any money in the long run as long as you win.

All friendly monsters in Dragon Quest 3

There are a total of 121 named friendly monsters to rescue in DQ3, split across 57 different ?species of monster. Some species have multiple different friendly monsters, and each of them has a specific name.

Rather than splitting the friendly monsters into their respective discovery locations, I’ll take you through the list alphabetically by species. If you want to know which friendly monsters you’ve already found and which are still out there waiting to be rescued, you can visit Monty at any of the Monster Arenas in DQ3 to double-check your own list and compa?re it to the one below.

I’ll also note any particular items that are required and any time restraints that must be heeded to catch individual friendly monsters. If a friendly monster can only be caught at a certain time of day, head to the nearest inn and choose “Rest Awhile,?then select the time of day when the friendl??y monster is going to appear.

Every patch for Final Fantasy XIV brings a lot of new items to collect and use, and patch 7.1 is? absolutel?y no exception. Along with new gear, minions, and mounts, there are also a lot of new furnishing items up for grabs.

The furnishing design team seems to have ?decided that we need more modern furniture pieces, and I, for one, am not complaining, but this doesn’t mean there isn't a selection of traditional pieces within the additions.

If you’ve just decided to change the interior design of your house, then you’re looking at redecorating anyway, as all of your furniture is?? now in storage. So why not take this opportunity to get an idea for new items and maybe make a change?

While the inside of your newly designed house has a lot of new options in terms of newly added furniture, the outside doesn’t get quite as many new additions in p?atch 7.1. Only three new items have been added.

On the plu??s side, one of them is big enough to almost completely fill a small plot, so it’s not so bad.

The First of Dawntrail’s Alliance Raids has arrived in Final Fantasy XIV in spectacular form, with ample references and inspiration taken directly from Final Fantasy XI. If you’re about to dive in to Jeuno: The First Walk, here’s everything you need to look out for.??

Jeuno: The First Walk is set up in much the same way as any other Alliance Raid in FFXIV, with three main bosses, a bunch of trash mo??bs to pick through, and one mini-boss-trash-mob combination fight to work through. At the time of release, it takes about 45 minutes to one hour to complete, depending on party wipes and iLvl of players.

Prishe of the Distant Chains walkthrough

Prishe of the Distant Chains in Jeuno: The First Walk in Final Fantasy XIV
Screenshot by Destructoid

After the first trash mob is taken down on the main street of Jeuno, you’ll be flung directly into the first boss fight of the raid and you’ll be facing off against Prishe. She?? has som??e very hard hits, and an interesting charge-up mechanic that has previously been seen in The Sil’Dihn Subterrane.

The one thing you need to really pay attention to during this fight is Prishe’s voice lines. When casting certain attacks, she will d??isplay three telegraphs rather than one, a??nd then she will begin to say “Wait for it…? Each wait for it corresponds to one of the telegraphs for the attack, with a maximum of three, and you’ll need to place yourself accordingly to deal with the  incoming brutal attack. ;

Prishe’s main attacks are as follows:

Attack Explainer
Knuckle Sandwich Targets a location on the ground to slam, with three circles each slightly larger than each other. Prishe will say “Wait for it…?up to three times, with each time corresponding to one of the circles. However many times she says “Wait for it…? stand outside the corresponding circle.
Nullifying Dropkick Very brutal tank-buster designed to be shared between all three tanks. Time for a group hug! Make sure to use your abilities to mitigate damage.
Banish Storm Three staves appear on the ground with arrows pointing outwards. After a short moment, moderately sized AoEs will begin to cascade out from the staves in the direction of the arrows.
Crystalline Thorns Marks a large portion of the arena with red, creating lethal spikes that cannot be stepped on. This move will always come before Auroral Uppercut.
Auroral Uppercut All players will be targeted with a knockback attack similar to that seen performed by Black Cat in the first Arcadion raid. Three telegraphs will be shown, so listen for Prishe’s “Wait for it…?count and adjust your position to ensure you land in a safe location.
Banishga IV Orbs begin to cover the arena, swelling up in sequence. Remain near the smaller orbs as the larger ones cause large AoEs, then move into the newly safe space.

Fafnir the Forgotten walkthrough

Fafnir the Forgotten in Jeuno: The First Walk in Final Fantasy XIV
Screenshot by Destructoid

Fafni??r is a very large dragon who is intent on causing as much damage as it can??, and the attacks from this boss come incredibly fast. The first time you go through this battle, it will seem like complete chaos, but it’s perfectly manageable once you’ve figured out the patterns.

A couple of things to note about this fight are the fact that Fafnir will periodically cast Hurricane Wing, whi??ch will cause damaging wind to whip up across the entire arena. This can blow players around, and also cause some hefty damage, so Healers will need to be on their toes during this.

Tanks need to pay attention? as well, even if they’re not Main Tank. During Hurricane Wind, Fafnir will also summon a number of Darter??s that need to be picked up and felled before continuing.

Other than Hurricane Wind, Fafnir??’s main attacks are as follows:

Attack Explainer
Offensive Posture Offensive Posture can take three entirely different ?forms, and ?you’ll need to pay attention to Fafnir to figure out how to ride out the oncoming attack. These can come immediately after one another in any pattern, so stay on your toes:

Head Charged:
- Fafnir will breath fire along the edge of t??he arena in a clockwise direction. The fire will fade in the same pattern as it was cast, so stay near the beginning of the circle, because you’ll need to move into that space to avoid the follow-up cast of either Tail Charged or Feet Charged Offensive Posture.

Tail Charged:
- Fafnir will swipe the arena beh?ind it, causing a 270?? degree AoE. The only safe spot for this attack is directly in front of Fafnir’s head.

Feet Charged:
- Fafnir will slam the ground, creating a large AoE around itself. Only the very edge of the arena will be safe during this attack.

Baleful Breath High-damage stack that hits multiple times and spreads damage across all players it hits. Stay together as a group and only leave the stack when the attack is over.
Winged Terror Fafnir’s will move to the edge of the arena and it’s wings will begin to grow purple, slamming down to the left and right after a short moment. Only the center of the arena in front of Fafnir’s head is safe.
Absolute Terror Much like Winged Terror, Absolute Terror is performed while Fafnir is at the edge of the arena. It’s body will start to glow purple before shooting a large AoE through the middle of the arena in front of it’s head, so make sure to stick to the sides.

After you’ve worked through Fafnir, you’ll encounter a sin?gle stone Talos type enemy on your way to the next? encounter. This enemy has an interruptible Tank Buster, so make sure to use Interject while it’s being cast.

The Ark Angels walkthrough

The Ark Angels in Jeuno: The First Walk in Final Fantasy XIV
Screenshot by Destructoid

The A?rk Angels are a group of five enemies who need to be fought together, and they all have their own attacks and AoEs to dodge. Alone, these attacks wo?uld be remarkably simple to avoid, but grouped together, these five definitely pose a bit of a challenge.

It can feel pretty chaotic, but to make things easier, it’s possible to tank all five enemies in a group and simply AoE attack? them to death. It’s slower, but it definitely makes things a little less stressful for all involved.

Here are the main attacks to look o??ut for with the Ark Angels:

Attack Explainer
The Decisive Battle Upon commencing the battle, the three tanks will become tethered to one of the three Ark Angels that are present, applying the Epic Hero Effect. Players will only be able to damage the Ark Angel with the matching effect. If you’re unsure, stick with your Alliance’s tank.
Meikyo Shisui A Number of different AoE?? attacks will go off in quick succession:

- Checkerboard ice AoE
- Glowing orb that must be looked away from
- Part one of a flower attack causing a large AoE
- Part two of a flower attack causing a small safe zone that all players must run to
- A large cryst??al that shoots six cones of lightning from the? center of the arena

This bit is a little chaotic, and on the last part, remember that the safe cone of space is actually smaller than it appears once the attack goes off, so it’s safest to stand directly in the middle of a safe cone.

Meteor Ark Angel TT begins a lengthy cast that must be interrupted using Interject before it goes off to prevent catastrophic raid-wide damage.
Guillotine Ark Angel TT moves to one side of the room before performing a few large cleaves in front of him. Stand directly to his sides to avoid the attack.
Utsusemi Ark Angel HM creates four clones that will tether to a player before chasing them around the arena. Keep a distance from them, and other players should avoid getting caught in the tethers.
Mijin Gakure This is possibly the most vital mechanic of the raid, as failing this can cause a wipe. Ark Angel HM begins casting Mijin Gakure, while Ark Angel EV creates an Ark Shield. Focus all attacks on the shield and, when it’s defeated, someone must use Interject to interrupt Mijin Gakure to prevent a wipe.
Rampage Ark Angel MR will dash around the arena, causing three large linear AoEs before jumping up and slamming down to create a large circle AoE that should be avoided.

Like I said, this fight sounds like complete c?haos, but it’s mostly avoidance techniques. As long as you can master the art of interrupting Mijin Gakure, you should get through this in one try.

Shadow Lord walkthrough

Shadow Lord in Jeuno: The First Walk in Final Fantasy XIV
Screenshot by Destructoid

The big baddie of Jeuno: The First Walk, and the final boss, is Shadow Lord. His ability to use both magic and brawn make him a worthy foe, and he also calls upon clones to make things even more complicated.? On the plus side, this is once again a lesson in avoidance and after the first go, you’ll pretty much know what you’re doing, although this fight will test your memory somewhat.

Here’s all of Shadow Lord’s main attacks ?and ??how to deal with them:

Attack Explainer
Giga Slash Two sweeping swords will appear around Night Lord before disappearing, leaving a small safe zone that won’t be affected by the incoming cleave AoEs. The attacks won’t happen until after the second telegraph, so make sure to stand in the first safe spot and then very quickly move to the second.
Giga Slash: Nightfall Exactly the same as Giga Slash, except a third telegraphed attack will be added. Make sure to dodge and weave accordingly.
Umbra Smash Shadow Lord smashes the ground in a straight like AoE. These line AoEs will then cascade outwards from themselves, so run into a safe spot created by a previously executed AoE.
Implosion Shadow Lord lifts an orb in each hand, each creating a half circle AoE around him. One of these orbs will grow bigger, and you want to stand on the opposite side of the arena to avoid a half arena-wide AoE.
Chthonic Fury Shadow Lord transform the arena, dealing raid-wide damage and beginning a new phase.
Dark Nebula After the arena is turned into four circles with interconnecting passages, Shadow Lord will create a knockback line AoE on one side of the arena. Make sure to stand on the side that gives you enough space to fly back into a safe spot. Later on in the fight, four will happen in quick succession, sending you in a complete circle, but you'll need to remember the order.
Dark Sigils Circular and square telegraphs appear around the arena with thorns appearing on either the outside facing outwards, or inside facing inwards. The AoEs that goes off when this cast finishes will follow the direction of the thorns, so adjust your position accordingly.
Shadow Spawn Shadow Lord creates two clones of himself that will use Giga Slash or Implosion, following the order that the two attacks are performed by Shadow Lord himself.
Binding Sigil Three sets of circular sigils will appear on the ground in sequence, detonating to create large AoEs at the end of the cast. You’ll need to remember the order and figure out the safe spots, running into previously detonated AoEs to avoid damage.

Once you’ve defeated Shadow Lord, you’ll be able to claim your spoils. Good luck rolling on the Nano Lord minion, and if you’re lucky enough to win one of the Tattered Sheet Music items, remember to head to Jeuno to trade it for FFXI inspired Orchestrion Rolls by talking to the Peculiar Goblin.

As part of patch 7.1 of Final Fantasy XIV, the winners from a Weapon Design Contest have been added and are now obtainable. However, getting your hands on them is not easy and relies heavily on luck, as well as ??skill.

Unlike the previous round of Weapon Design Contest winners?? that were added in patch 6.4 as part of the Credendum sets available from Radz-at-Han, this second rou?nd of weapons is going to be a lot harder (or more expensive) to get your hands on. And trust me, if any weapons are worth getting, these are.

How to get Figmental Weapon Coffers in Final Fantasy XIV

Screenshot by Destructoid

Figmental Weapon Coffers are a possible drop at any point when completing Cenote Ja Ja Gural, the treasure dungeon that can p?ossibly result from deciphering a Timeworn Br’aaxskin Map.

The good news is that once you’ve reached level 100, you’re technically able to get a Figmental Weapon Coffer at any time by completing the previously mentioned Br'aaxskin Maps. However, the bad news is that this relies heavily on luck at multiple stages, and it’s not someth?ing that you’ll be able to complete solo, so you’ll need to drag some friends along with you, or at least one friend if you're feeling up for the challenge.

You’ll need luck in three, or possibly even four notabl?e steps:

  • To decipher a map that results in a Portal, because this is not guaranteed
  • To open the correct doors inside Cenote Ja Ja Gural to avoid being kicked out prematurely
  • To get lucky rolls against other players who are in Cenote Ja Ja Gural
  • To get lucky with the higher-or-lower mini-game inside Cenote Ja Ja Gural to increase the number of coffers available

On the plus side, there’s no limit to the number of B?r’aaxskin Maps you can decipher each day, so you can keep going until you get your hands on these kitchen and ocean-themed weapons.

If you’d rather avoid diving into Cenote Ja Ja Gural and relying on luck, then you can purchase Figmental Weapon Coffers on the Marketboard. However, they’re currently selling for up to 25 million Gil in extreme cases, so you m?i??ght actually be better off putting the time and effort into getting one for yourself.

I?t's ?also worth noting that you cannot purchase individual weapons on the Marketboard, and must buy the Figmental Weapon Coffer if you want to get any of the Figment weapons.

How to get Br’aaxskin Maps in Final Fantasy XIV

Luckily, if you’re looking for Br’aaxskin Maps, I’ve got you covered with full maps for each region detailing where they can be obtained and how. You? can also purchase Br’aaxskin Maps on the Marketboard.

However, it’s worth bearing in mind that as multiple new items have been added as drops from Cenote Ja Ja Gural, the price of Br’aaxskin Maps has skyrocketed. Prior to patch 7.1, the price o??f these Maps was up to 30,000 Gil and, at the time of writing, they’re currently selling for upwards of 200,000 Gil. However, you go about it, getting your very? own Figmental Coffer is going to be an expensive endeavor.

In the interest of saving you a headache over this very difficult and expensive decision, I’ve taken some clear screenshots of each possible weapon from Figmental Weapon Coffers to help you decide which one you’re willing to t?ake the plunge for.

Orchestrion Rolls may not be at the top of the list when it comes to collectibles for most Final Fantasy XIV players, but most duties offer yo??u the chance to get ?your hands on unique tracks for your collection. Jeuno: The First Walk is no exception, but the obtainment method is new.

Rather than getting to the end of Jeuno: The First Walk and finding ready-to-play Orchestrion Rolls as part of the overall loot, you need to gather up a unique item an?d then exchange that for Orchestrion Rolls of your choice. While this does add an extra step between finishing the raid and getting your tunes, it does mean that you get to pick and choose, rather than simply accepting what you win.

When you reach the end of Jeuno: The First Walk, and the additional coffer containing the Nano Lord minion and other miscellany, you’ll be able to roll for an item called “Tattered Sheet Music? There are three to roll for, so you have a relatively high chance of obtaining one as long? as you get a lucky roll, but bear in mind that you’re rolling against 23 other players for each item, so don’t get too disheartened if you don’t win your first time around.

If you do get a Tattered Sheet Music, you’ll need to make your way to Lower Jeuno to exchange it for an Orchestrion Roll. There is sadly no teleport directly to Lower Jeuno, so you’ll need to head to Mamook in Yak T’el, then hop on a mount and head westwards to the passage that will take you to the FFXI-inspired area at (X:?10.9, Y:34.8), or as shown on the map above?.

Where to exchange Tattered Sheet Music in Final Fantasy XIV

Location of the Peculiar Goblin in Final Fantasy XIV

When you get to Lower Jeuno, head towards the back-right corner and find the Peculiar Goblin (X:6.5, Y:5.2). This little Goblin is inspired by a character known as Gobbiebox who can be found in the same location in FFXI. Gobbiebox allows players a once-daily chance to spin a dial to win potentially high-level items. In FFXIV, this Goblin is your ticket to playing FFXI-themed tunes in y??our abode.

After inte??racting with the Peculiar Goblin and selecting “Sheet Music Exchange? you’ll be able to exchange one Tatt?ered Sheet Music for any of the following 11 Orchestrion Rolls:

  • The Forgotten City - Tavnazian Safehold
  • Shadow Lord
  • Depths of the Soul
  • Battle in the Dungeon
  • Battle in the Dungeon #3
  • Tu’Lia
  • Battle Theme from Final Fantasy XI
  • Fighters of the Crystal
  • Castle Zvahl
  • Awakening
  • Vana’diel March

This does mean that you'll need to complete the raid at least 1??1 times in order to get all of the currently available Orchestrion Rolls, but you can also buy them on the Marketboard if you're willing to part with between 750,000 and a couple of million Gil. Besides, you're probably running the raids to get that iLvl 720 gear anyway, right? So it's probably a good idea to save your money.

As more Alliance Raids from the Echoes of Vana’diel series are released throughout the 7.X patches, there may be new Orchestrion Ro?lls added to this list, so make sure to revisit the Peculiar Goblin with each additional raid to make sure you’ve got all of the Orchestrion Rolls for your collection.

The Hall of the Novice is an entirely optional piece of side content in Final Fantasy XIV that allows you to practice skills and learn new? things that can prove useful in battle. With patch 7.1, a number of new training exercises were added for players to complete if they ?choose.

Hall of the Novice was introduced way back in patch 3.2, and has been left relatively untouched since then with little being added. However, the training exercises are immensely useful for b?oth n?ew players, and those who have stepped away for a while and haven’t been keeping up with newly added mechanics.

When you’ve got the Hall of the Novice unlocked, you’ll be able to undertake? the various training exercises that are available.

How to complete Hall of the Novice training in Final Fantasy XIV

Training at the Hall of the Novice in Final Fantasy XIV

There are four different categories of training exercises?? at the Hall of the Novice:

  • Tank
  • Healer
  • DPS
  • Tactical Training

While Tactical Training can be completed by any players using any Job, including those most recently added as part of Dawntrail, the individual class (Tank, Healer, and DPS) training exercises can only be completed by jobs added during Stormblood or before.

That means that the Jobs listed below cannot take part in basic Hal?l of the Novice training:

  • Gunbreaker or Dancer (added during Shadowbringers)
  • Reaper or Sage (added during Endwalker)
  • Viper or Pictomancer (added during Dawntrail)

To take part in Hall of the Novice training, you can either approach one of The Smiths at their locations noted above and select “Undertake Hall of ?the Novice training? or open up the Duty menu and select “Hall of the Novice? Either method will bring up an interface that looks like the image below:

To find a particular exercise, click on the “Display all exercises?button in the bottom right corner, select the training exercise you want to complete, and then click on “View exercise? As long as you’re playing with a qualifying Job, you’ll be able to select “Begin?to be taken into ??the exercise.

All basic Hall of the Novice exercises in Final Fantasy XIV

Basic training exercises in Final Fantasy XIV

In total, there are 20 basic exercises that you ca?n complete if you choose to do so. These exercises are split between the different roles, with each role having a “final exercise?that combines everything from previous exercises into one fight sequence. Completing all exercises will reward you with a set of level 15 "Brand-new" gear for the role that you completed the training.

Tank exercises

Tanks have the most exercises of all roles, and while the? topics might seem fairly basic, it’s definitely worth completing all of them. This is especially true if you’re new to MMOs and want to get into higher-level content:

  • Exercise 1: Avoid area of effect (AoE) attacks
  • Exercise 2: Execute a combo to increase enmity
  • Exercise 3: Execute a combo in battle
  • Exercise 4: Accrue enmity from multiple targets
  • Exercise 5: Engage multiple targets
  • Exercise 6: Execute a ranged attack
  • Exercise 7: Engage enemy reinforcements
  • Exercise 8: Final exercise

Healer exercises

There are five different exercises for Healers to undertake specifically, and although they’re pretty basic, they’re great for those who may be nervous about having the lives of the party ?in their hands:

  • Exercise 1: Avoid area of effect (AoE) attacks
  • Exercise 2: Heal and ally
  • Exercise 3: Heal multiple allies
  • Exercise 4: Avoid engaged targets
  • Exercise 5: Final exercise

DPS exercises

DPS classes have a total of seven exercises to complete, including the final exercise to test everything they’ve learned. Again, while these seem pretty ??basic, it’s all very useful to know and ??understand if you’re new to this type of play style:

  • Exercise 1: Avoid area of effect (AoE) attacks
  • Exercise 2: Assist allies in defeating a target
  • Exercise 3: Defeat an occupied target
  • Exercise 4: Avoid engaged targets
  • Exercise 5: Engage enemy reinforcements
  • Exercise 6: Interact with the battleground
  • Exercise 7: Final exercise

Tactical training can be undertaken while playing any job, regardles??s of when that job was added. You’ll need to complete the level 49 MSQ quest “Hearts on Fire?before you can unlock and complete them, though. When that’s done, head back to one of The Smiths and talk?? to them to unlock the Tactical Training exercises.

There are three Tactical Training exercises to complete that unlock in sequence after completing the previous one, and each will take you through various different mechanics that are commonly seen throughout the content in FFXIV. For completing the three Tactical Training?? exercises, you’ll be rewarded with a Neophyte’s Ring, which increases EXP gain by 30% when playing on a Job that’s below level 60.

Let’s take a look at ?each exercise, and the different mechanics that you’ll encounter while completing them.

Tactical Exercise 1 - React to Attack Markers

Mechanics included in this Tactical Training include linear Tank Busters, AoEs that chase you across the arena, Stack Markers, and Spread Markers. You’ll go through ea??ch mechanic individually, and then utilize what you’ve learned in a final test that you’ll need to pass to complete the exercise.

Tactical Exercise 2 - React to Floor Markers

This exercise will take you through more complex mechanics, such as Knockback Markers, Proximity Markers, and Towers. Again, you’ll be tested in a final exercise?? that combines all of the taught mechanics.&n?bsp;

The third and final Tactical Training exercise will take you through various mo??re complex mechanics, such as Proximity Tethers and how to break them, Gaze attacks, status effects such as Poison or Bind, and how to use Esuna to cleanse them. Completing the final te??st in this exercise will reward you with the Neophyte’s Ring.

With every patch, new obtainable items are added to Final Fantasy XIV, and patch 7.1 is certainl?y no exception. Among the newly added items is an emote tha?t’s readily available to every player, but you might not expect it to come from where it does.

For anyone who has been playing FFXIV for a few years, there’s a commonly shared belief that Jonathas in Old Gridania is kind of?Useless. Okay, so maybe “useless??is the wrong word, he’s actually very useful in the beginning because he has a lot of items that can be purchased in exchange for Achievement Certificates.

However, those items are quickly all in your collection and then you rarely have any reason to visit Jonathas again, because his stock is hardly ever updated. It’s been a long time since ??he had anything new (that wasn’t a Framer’s Kit for a fishing achievement), but it seems that 7.1 has thrown Jonathas a bone and given players a reason to seek h?im out.

While it might not seem like the most useful emote going, the Flowerbed Maintenance emote is perpetual, meaning that it doesn’t end until you move. Like the Sweep emote, it can be used to sprinkle players who are playing dead in busy areas, and the two actually go together remarkably well?? to make it look like you’re cleaning up the riff-raff. Or, you know, you could just use it to take cute Group Pose shots of you watering the flowers.

However you intend to use it, it’s always beneficial to have more emotes in your arsenal, and you can get the Flowerbed Maintenance emote f??rom Jonathas in Old Gridania (X:10.6, Y:6.2).

The emote will cost you two Achievement Certificates, whic?h are earned by exchanging Achievement Points. It’s all a bit confusing, but I can promise you that if you’ve been playing for even a few weeks, you’ve likely got enough stocked up to get the emote and likely have som??e spare to get some other items.

Once you’ve got the emote, you’ll need to use it from your inventory in the usual fashion, and then you can use it in one of two ways. Your first choice is to open up the Social Menu, click on Emotes, and then find the “Water?emote under the “Special?tab. You can also drag the emote from the emote list an???d place it on your hotbar, if you think you’re going to use it often.

Alternatively, if you’re not up for clicking through multiple menus and searching for it, you can type ?water?in the chat box then press ent?er, causing your character to whip out their watering can to hydrate the ground in front of ?them.

It’s been a while since we last visited the Pandæmonium raid storyline in Final Fantasy XIV, but with the release of patch 7.1, the epilogue for the story is finally available to play. What’s more, it comes with some worthwhile rewards,?? so it’s definitely worth seeking out.&nbs??p;

If you think back to the Pandæmonium raids, specifically the 11th Circle, you’ll remember Themis, which is the true name of Elidibus. Don’t worry if you’re confused even now by the Convocation of the Fourteen, it’s en??ough to confuse even the biggest lorehound. You’ll also likely remember that when we last visited the Pandæmonium storyline, Themis acknowledged us as a friend before returning to the Aet?herial Sea.

Now it’s time to wrap up the stor?y completely, and you’ll get your own mini Themis for doing so. To get it, you’ll need to complete a level 90 quest called “A Present from the Prese??nt?

How to complete A Present from the Present in Final Fantasy XIV

To begin the final Pand?æmonium quest, head to Old Sharlayan and talk to the Affable Researcher close to the main Aetheryte (X:11.0, Y:10.6) to pick up “A Present from the Present? He’ll send you off to talk to Claudie??n at Aporia, Labyrinthos (X:8.6, Y:27.5).

Talking to Claudien will spark a cutscene during which yo??u’ll be introduced to the little cutie that is the Wind-up Themis minion, and then it will be up to us to deliver it to Erichtonios inside Pandæmonium itself.

Now, if you’re diving into this epilogue quest soon after 7.1 dropped, the?n it’s likely to have been a while since you entered Pandæmonium through the front door and you may have since forgotten exactly where said front door is. To get there, teleport to Anagnorisis in Elpis, then head north-east to the location shown on the map below:

Enter Pandæmonium and head straight towards it until you find Hegemone (X:21.3, Y??:20.7), and talk to her to continue the quest. After a cutscene, you can hide behind the gate to the next section of Pandæmonium as Erichthonios approaches.

What follows is a very touching cutscene to wrap up the Pandæmonium storyline, including some confusion as to how Themis became so small, but Erichthonios will gladly accept the new companion.&n??bsp;

When the cutscene is over, return to Aporia and talk to Claudien again to complete the final Pandæmonium quest and be rewarded with your very own Wind-up Themis. You’ll also be rewarded ??with the Where Dæmons Abide Orchestrion Roll. Neither of these items can be traded or sold on the Marketboard, so you’ll need to complete this quest if you want to have them in your collection.

This is a particularly exciting emote for those who dip into the FFXIV Roleplay community, particularly those who p??art?ake in the nightlife scene. It adds a new level of realism to the bars and clubs frequented by players and it is a welcome surprise for this patch.

The recent patch 7.1 brought a few new graphical updates to Final Fantasy XIV, and developer Naoki Yoshida acknowledged during Live Letter 84 that it might change how player characters looked,?? even i?f only slightly.

To combat this, the developers dropped in a new quest that can be undertaken for players to get their hands on yet another free Phial of Fantasia.?? Unlike the previous quest, which was added during th??e 7.0 update when Dawntrail was released, this second quest is only available for a limited time and will cease to exist once patch 7.2 is released.

If you’ve been wandering around Eorzea for hours on end looking for this second free Fantasia, which is definitely worth it considering the usual cost of $10 per Phial, then you might be sur??prised to know where it actually comes from.

To get this free Fantasia, you might be tempted to return to the Medicine Merchant in Ul’dah, who gives out the previous (and more permanent) free Fantasia quest. However, he won’t be of any use to you and you’ll leave ??empty handed.

Instead head to Gridania, a??nd then use the Aethernet system to travel to the Lancers Guild. Head west towards Apkallu Falls, and you’ll find an NPC there called the Wandering Moogl??e.

Even though ?the Moogle has a quest above his head, this one doesn’t up on either the mini–map or the full map, so you can be forgiven for completely overlooking it if you’ve hunted around in this area before. I've marked the location on the map below, just in case you're still a little lost:

Where to find the Moogle with the free Fantasia in Final Fantasy XIV 7.1

You don’t have to actu??ally do anything to earn the free Fantasia either. This little Moogle will simply be so happy an?d stunned that you can see them, and will hand over a Phial of Fantasia as a show of gratitude. This does make me wonder whether Moogles are just carrying an endless supply of the appearance-changing wonder potion, but let’s not think too much on that.

While you’re in the area, make sure to visit Jonathas nearby. He has a few new sets of facewear and a shiny new emote available to pur?chase, so it’s definitely worth the time.

What can you change with Fantasia in Final Fantasy XIV?

Fantasia lets you change almost everything about your character except their name and accomplishments. From the tiniest of ?details, like the shape of your nos?e or ears, to the most glaring differences, like becoming a different gender or an entirely new race, Fantasia lets you do it all.

Just bear in mind that you’ll need to strip out of your current clothes before you can use the Fantasia, so try to find? somewhere quiet before you begin the process!

Mounts are always a worthwhile investment in Final Fantasy XIV, whether you need to grind for an achieveme??nt or hoard up some cu??rrency to purchase them. One of the new ??mounts added in patch 7.1 is perfectly prehistoric and weirdly adorable.

The Brachiosaurus is a dinosaur that roamed the Earth during the late Jurassic period, roughly 150 million years ago. I’m not entirely sure what that means for the time-setting of FFXIV, and I don’t really want to think about it too much, but either way, it’s not every day that you get to have your very own dinosaur to mount up on while you go explo??ring.

The Brachiosaur mount ca?n be obtained through taking part in The Hunt and earning Sacks of Nuts. You’ll need to do a lot of hunting if you want to get this dinosaur friend because you’ll need 3,200 Sacks of Nuts to purchase it. Once you’ve saved up this hefty sum, head to Tuliyollal and talk to Ryubool Ja (X:13.9, Y:13.4).

Thankfully, Sacks of Nuts can be obtained when felling hunts in any zone from Shadowbringers, Endwalker, and now Dawntrail. This means that you’re not limited to the highest ??level hunts, and can actually make this fairly easy?? on yourself by targeting level 80 or 90 Hunt Marks with a level 100 Job.

To make things even easier, it’s a good idea to join a Hunt Train. Although most Hunt Trains these days will be focused on Dawntrail Marks, there are still some th?at take place in lower-level areas, and they’re an excellent way to stock up on a huge supply of Sacks of Nuts very quickly thanks to the large number of players who take part.

The best way to find a Hunt Train is by checking out Faloop! or joining their Discord server to be kept informed about Hunt Trains on your server. Don’t forget you can also v??isit other Data Centers o??r Worlds to partake in The Hunt there, so don’t feel like you have to limit yourself to your own Data Center or World.

  • Endwalker

    • Old Sharlayan (X:11.8, Y:13.2)

  • Dawntrail

If you do want to stick to Dawntrail area Hunt Marks, we have handy guides for all A Rank and S Rank Hunt Marks, so you’ll at least know where to find th?em if you go off in search ??of a fight.

It's not very often that an epic award-winning game comes up at a truly incredible price, and when they do, you should definitely take advantage. Epic saga Final Fantasy XVI is one such game, and it's go??ing for cheap on Amazon right now.&??nbsp;

Usually, the PlayStation 5 version of FFXVI sells on Amazon for around $50, but it's currently available for just under $25, mak?ing it half-price and the cheapest it has ever been on the shopping site. There's no known end date for this flash price drop, but you should probably make the most of it and snap it up if you haven't already.

Think about it, with 30 hours of gameplay at a minimum, that's less than $1 per hour of stellar entertainment. That's not taking into account the fact that you can spend upto 100 hours exploring, battling, collecting, and simply enjoying the surroundings in FFXVI. I c?an't think of a single thing that prov?ides that much entertainment so cheaply.

In case you've been living under a rock since Final Fantasy XVI was originally released back in June 2023, or even if you've been waiting for a good price (I can almost guarantee that it won’t go lower than this any time soon), then y??ou've missed out on a truly incredible experience.

There's a reason that FFXVI has won multiple awards, including th??e Award for Excellence at the Japanese Game Awards 2024, Best Lead Performer (for Ben Starr as Clive), and a couple for the incredible musical score.

Sadly, this deal is only for players wanting Final Fantasy XVI on PlayStation 5. For other platforms, the price is still sitting at the regular $50. On the plus side, if you’ve just taken the plunge and treated yourself to a PlayStation 5 Pro, then you’re in for one hell of a ride with FFXVI. The graphics are gorgeous at the most basic level, with vibrant c??olors contrasting against the darkest of dark background?s (and storylines).

Look, I could go on about how incredibly worth it this deal is until the cows come home, but while you’re sitting here reading, you could have already treated yourself. And what’s more, with Prime delivery,?? you’ll be able to start your adventure with Clive in under 24 hour?s. So what are you waiting for?

It’s a pretty basic expectation for trials in Final Fantasy XIV to each have ??????????????????????????an Extreme variant, designed w??ith a significantly higher level of difficulty and intended to test players once they’ve got the normal version perfected. As part of patch 7.1, The Interphos has finally got an extreme equivalent.

The Minstrel’s Ballad: Sphene’s Burden is the boosted-difficulty version of the Dawntrail MSQ “The Interphos?Trial. As the name suggests, this Extreme Trial will see players pitted again??st Sphene all over again, except this time she’s not holding back?? and has a whole new moveset to throw at you.

All of the Extreme trials from Dawntrail offer the chance to get the first ever actually funct?ional wing mounts, and completing The?? Minstrel’s Ballad: Sphene’s Burden will allow you to collect the third set of wings, which are just as stunning as the previous Wings of Resolve and Ruin.

You’ve likely been waiting at least four months to be able to test your mettle against Sphene all over again??, or just to get another pair of wings, so here’s how to unlock The Minstrel’s Ballad: Sphene’s Burden.

How to unlock The Minstrel’s Ballad: Sphene’s Burden in Final Fantasy XIV

Before you can unlock The Minstrel’s Ballad: Sphene’s Burden, youll need to complete most of the MSQ up to an??d including the level 100 quest that shares the name of the expansion, “Dawn??trail?

Unlocking The Minstrel’s Ballad: Sphene’s Burden is done in the same way as unlocking any other extreme trial in FFXIV, by talking to the Wanderi??ng Minstrel. He’s in a few different places (or he’s perfected the art of cloning), so for The Minstrel’s Ballad: Sphene’s Burden, you’ll nee?d to head to Tuliyollal to find him near the For’ard Cabins Inn (X:11.2, Y:14.7).

After talking to him, you’ll have the option to “Queen Eternal? which will trigger a cutscene of the Wandering Minstrel discussing her. After this, you’ll unlock The Minstrel’s Ballad: Sphene’s Burd??en and will be able to q?ueue for it via the Duty Finder.

If you’re heading to do this a few months down the line, when The Minstrel’s Ballad: Sphene’s Burden isn’t freshly introduced, you’ll also have the options ??to “Talk about Valigarmanda?and “Talk about Zoraal Ja? These options will unlock Worqor Lar Dor (Extreme) and Everkeep (Extreme) respectively.

If you’re anything like me, you’ve likely encountered the “running out of space in my glamour dresser?problem more than once over the years in Final Fantasy XIV. Even though we have 800 slots to fill now, it???s still an issue, but something being added in patch 7.1 might help.

Outfit Glamours are designed to condense all of the pieces from a particular glamour set so that the whole set only takes up one?? space in your Glamour Dresser, rather than the five or six slots that it would previously. This is a great little feature, but there is?? a caveat.

What sets are compatible with Outfit Glamours in Final Fantasy XIV

How to tell if something is compatible with Outfit Glamours in FFXIV

In order to create an Outfit Glamour, you must own every piece of the corresponding glamour set and they must all be of the same quality. Take the Casual Attire set, for instance. If you just own the Casual Boots and the Casual Jacket, you w?on’t be able to condense them down into an Outfit Glamour unless you go and buy the Casual Halfslops as well. And if you own one thing in HQ and the rest of a set in NQ, you’ll need to reduce the quality of all items?? in order to proceed.

Outfit Glamours are also pretty useless when it comes to event reward sets or items purchased from the Online Store, as both can be stored in the Armoire. However, where this comes in handy is fo?r sets that are given out as quest rewards, such as the Felicitous se??t from Island Sanctuary, or crafted sets such as the Varsity Attire.

To tell if an item can be added as part of an Outfit Glamour, check on the Glamour Dresser icon in the top right of the window that pops up when you hover over the item. If there’s a ??icon, this can be added to the Gla?mour Dre??sser as part of an Outfit Glamour.

While at your Glamour Dresser, find an item from the set that you wish to create an Outfit Glamour for in the equipment selection screen, then click on the Outfit Glamour icon to the right of the item’s name. This w?ill bring up a new window, detailing which items will be added to the Outfit Glamour and how many Glamour Prisms you’ll need to proceed.

??The listed items will then be condensed? into one slot, and placed into the Glamour Dresser.

How to use Outfit Glamours in FFXIV

Making a glamour with items stored under an Outfit Glamou??r is exactly the same as it was previously, with items appearin??g as they always have in their previous locations. The only difference is a small note on the window that pops up when you hover over the item, stating that it is stored as part of an Outfit Glamour.

If you want to retrieve anything that’s included as part of an Outfit Glamour, you’ll need to click on the item and se??lect “Restore Item?as you did previously. However, doing this will retrieve the entire set, rather than just the individual piece that you wanted in the first place. Then, if?? you want to store the rest of the set again, you won’t be able to store it as an Outfit Glamour without all of the pieces.

Doman Mahjong might not be everyone's idea of a riveting fun time in Final Fantasy XIV, and t?o some (mysel?f included), it is just an overwhelmingly complicated piece of side content that is usually avoided.

However, one of the new things added as part of patch 7.1 is Mahjong Voice??s. This adds voice lines f??or all of the Scions, making the game-within-the-game feel far more immersive, and almost as though the Scions are behind you giving you support while you battle it out with your opponent.

As this is new content, it might not be immediately clear how it works, but here are all the deta?ils you could possibly need to have Alphinaud, Thancred, or any of the Scions cheering on your victories or lamenting you for your losses.

How to unlock new Mahjong Voices in Final Fantasy XIV

Before you can unlock any Mahjong Voic??es, you’ll need to have done a couple of things:

  • Complete the MSQ up to and including the level 60 quest “Heavensward?/li>

  • Complete the level 15 side quest “Every Little Thing She Does Is Mahjong?at the Gold Saucer

When both of these are done, you’ll be able to talk to Dibourdier in the Gold Saucer (X:7.1 Y:7.8) to purchase new “Maxims of Mahjong?items using MGP as and when they become available. New voices will ?unlock as you progress through the MSQ and complete certain quests.

To enable Mahjong Voices, you’ll need to open up the Gold Saucer menu via Character, and then navigate to the Mahjong tab. Here, you’ll be able to enable o??r disable voices (maybe you don’t want Thancred to tell you how badly you’re doing, that’s understandable), or choose which character you want to be in your ??ear while playing.

You’ll also find all of the rules and information ab??out Doman Mahjong in this window, something which up until now was only available by talking to the Mahjong Tutor.

If you’ve got a player house in Final Fantasy XIV, you’ll be pretty used to working with the interior t??hat’s determined by the location of the house. However, as part of patch 7.1, players with estates can now choose to change the design of their interior, regardless of exterior location.

Prior to this point, each location had a set interior that could not be changed. House?s in The Goblet had a more desert-like theme, Shirogane boasts a more traditional Japanese-inspired Aesthetic, and so on. With the new option to change your interior design, it doesn’t matter where the house is, the inside is up to you.

And it’s not just the same old designs that we have to choose from. Also added in patch 7.1 was the new sleek and modern “Minimalist Style? Not only does this remove all columns, it paints the entire ??space white, gives gloriously blank white walls ready to be decorated, and also moves the entire staircase in houses on larger plots.

How to change interior design in Final Fantasy XIV

In order to change the interior design of a private house in Final Fantasy XIV, you?ll need to either be the owner of the plot or have furnishing placement authorization. If you want to change the interior of a Free Company house, you’ll need t??o have hall remodeling authorization from the FC leader.

The good new??s is that not only is the option to change the interior design of your house entirely free, but you’ll also be able to do it as many times and as often as you like. However, it’s worth remembering that changing the interior design of a house will result in all furnishing being transferred to the estate’s storeroom.

If there isn’t enough space for everything in the estate’s storeroom, you’ll be unable to change the design of the interior. In other words, it’s time to adopt a Marie Kondo mindset and get to decluttering if you want to benefit from this newly added ?feature. Reduce the hoard, ??how often do you use that Dance Pole in the bedroom anyway?

Changing the design of your house interior is remarkably easy, as the option has been added to the usual menu that you’ll see when redecorating or moving around the furniture. To get there, open up the “S?ocial?menu, then select “Housing? and the “Interior Design?option will now be the fifth in the list.

All interior design options in Final Fantasy XIV

After selecting the “Interior Design?option, you’ll be free to browse throu??gh the following options and select your d??esired style:

  • Riviera Style (Mist default style)
  • Glade Style (Lavender Beds default style)
  • Oasis Style (The Goblet default style)
  • Far Eastern Style (Shirogane default style)
  • Highland Style (Empyreum default style)
  • Minimalist Style (Newly added modern blank canvas)

The only downside to changing the interior design of your house is the aforemen??tioned result of furniture being transferred to storage. This means that you’ll then need to spend a few hours putting things back together, or redesign??ing completely based on the new look of the house.

Possibly the most anticipated new addition that arrived in Final Fantasy XIV with patch 7.1 is the new Final Fantasy XI-inspired Alliance Raids, Echoes of Vana’diel. Whether you’ve previously played FFXI, or you’re being introduced for the first time, these r??aids will prove exciting.

With brand new gear, minions, and exciting new fights to take part in, there are a lot of things to look forward to in the Echoes of Vana’diel Alliance Raid series. The first raid, Jeuno: The First Walk has already proven nostalgic for players of Final Fantasy’s first MMO,?? and exciting for those diving into the world for t?he first time.

Before you can unlock and take part in the Echoes of Vana’diel raids, you’ll need to complete a significant part of the MSQ, up to and including the titular level quest ?from the latest expansion “Dawntrail?

Once you’ve done that, head to Tuliyollal an??d talk to the Hoobigo Messenger (X:13.0, Y:11.6) to pick up a level 100 quest called “An Otherworldly Encounter? He’s right next to the Aetheryte, you can’t miss him. This is the first main quest for the Echoes of Vana’diel raid series and will see you heading to Mamook.

When you exit the cutscene, make your way to the destination (X:10.8, Y:32.3) to aid Bakool Ja Ja. After another cutscene that will likely make more sense to anyone who has played FFXI than anyone who hasn??t, Bakool Ja?? Ja will follow ‘Gulool Ja?and Prishe into the portal. Talk to the Armor-clad Warrior (X:10.8, Y:34.3) to get a small explanation of what’s going on, then follow Bakool Ja Ja into the portal.

Interacting with the port?al will open up the Duty Finder and allow you to queue for the first of the Echoes of Vana’diel Alliance?? Raids.

Completing Jeuno: The First Walk will reward players with an Ordell?e Coin, which can be exchanged with Uah’shepya in Solution Nine (X:8.7 Y:13.5) for Surgelight Twine or Surgelight Solvent, which can t?hen be used to upgrade gear.

As with all A??llied Societies, the Pelupelu can only be unlocked once you’ve reached a certain point in the MSQ. In this case, you’ll need to complete all MSQ quests up to and including the level 100 quest “Dawntrail?

Because the Pelupelu is the first Allied Society of the Dawntrail expansion, there are no further unlock requirements to complete at this time. When more Allied Societies are added down the line, you may need to complete the Pelupelu quests ??i??n order to unlock new ones.

Once you’ve completed the main story of Dawntrail up until the titular quest, you’ll be able to head to Tuliyollal to talk to the Blue-garbed Pelu (X:13.6, Y:12.9) and pick up the first quest in the Pelupelu Allied Society ??quest line called “An Intrepid New Enterprise?

This is a level 90 quest, and the Pelupelu daily quests are specifically for your battle classes. As such, if you have any Jobs that are still between level 90 and level 100, it’s a good idea to pick up this quest as that Job. Then, for subsequent quests and also daily Soci??ety quests, you’ll gain a lot of experience which will really help with the leveling process.

After talk?ing to the Blue?-garbed Pelu, and having been invited to be the trailblazer for the Turali Travel Agency, head to Ok’hanu and wait at the destination (X:20.1, Y:13.4). After the cutscene, talk to Liplu again.

After agreeing to become a special advisor for the Travel Agency, speak to Liplu again and they will walk off. Youll need to talk to three of the Hanuhan??u and offer advice on different aspects of the proposed guided tour in order to progress. They?? can be found in the following locations:

  • Genuhanu (X:22.7, Y:14.8)
  • Zelihali (X:20.6, Y:19.7)
  • Xenuhanu (X:17.8, Y:19.9)

With that done, return to Ok’hanu and talk to Liplu (X:20.0, Y:13.5) again. You’ll then finally get to glimpse Dock Poga for the first time, including the petting zoo and myriad of bright colors, and talking to Liplu once more here will complete the quest and fully unlock the Pelup?elu Allied Society.

After flying to Dock Poga, you’ll be able to attune to the new Aetheryte in the location, which mak?es it much easier to pick up daily Society quests from Yubli (X:36.8, Y:16.2). You’ll also have unlocked the Ohokaliy emote, which is the traditional greeting of the Hanuhanu.

You’ll also earn Pelu Pelplumes for each daily quest that you complete. These can be collected and traded with Pavli in Dock Poga (X:37.1, Y:16.1) for a multitude of exclusive rewards, including?? Triple Tr??iad Cards, Orchestrion Rolls, and glamour items.

With the release of patch 7.1 in Final Fantasy XIV, a new PVP series has begun. That can only mean one?? thing ?we have new?? rewards to work towards. From emotes to a whole attire coffer, there are a total of five big rewards to work for and some new items to spend your Trophy Crystals on to boot.

You’ll need plenty of Trophy Crystals to get your hands on everything below, so it’s time to pick a Job and dive into PvP. Remember, whichever Job you choose is likely t?o be changed significantly post-patch 7.1, as each Job other than Pictomancer and Viper is undergoing huge changes as part of the patch.

However, even if your favored Job is now unfamiliar, you can rest assured that you will get some Series EXP even if you lose your matches, ?so you’ll get everything you want eventually. Try not to? take things too seriously, and remember to have fun!

As always in a PvP season in Final Fantasy XIV, there are 30 Malmstone levels to climb your way through to earn all of the Trophy Crystals you need to hoard all of the gear above and have some l??eft over.

As you play PVP matches, you’ll earn Series EXP, ??and this will help you climb through the Malmstone levels. Each level typically rewards 1,000 Trophy Crystals, but there are also some particularly special rewards available to claim every five levels:

  • Level 5: Ballroom Etiquette - Awaiting Orders
  • Level 10: Seal Rock Framer’s Kit
  • Level 15: Adamant Weapon (minion)
  • Level 20: Red Sands Framer’s Kit
  • Level 25: Loose Fit Attire Coffer

These rewards will only be available to work towards as long as Series 7 is live, so if any of the above rewards take your fan?cy, it’s time to dive ??into PvP to target and beat up your fellow Warriors of Light.

If you use the Final Fantasy XIV Launcher to start up your game, then you’re used to seeing the chosen artwork in the b??ackground. However, one thing added as part of the 7.1 update is a new ability to customize your launcher to suit your tastes.

Are you a fan of G’raha? I mean really, who isn’t? Maybe you’ve got a soft spot for Erenville, and who could blame you? Well, now you can pick them to greet you whenever you open up the official Launcher to log in to Final Fantasy XIV. They’re not the only options, of course, but it’s nice that they are options among the current group of six.

How to change your background in the Final Fantasy XIV Launcher

To change your background in the FFXIV Launcher, open it up and input your log-in details but don’t press “Play? Instead, ??locate the cog button in the top right-hand side of the window, click it, and you’ll be taken to the Config menu.

After the 7.1 update is live, there will be a new section underneath “Theme?where the possible backgrounds will show up. There are currently a total of six different designs that you ca??n set to greet you:

  • Meteor (standard)
  • Krile
  • Wuk Lamat
  • G’raha
  • Erenville
  • Tuliyollal vista

To choose your background, click on the image you like and it will become surrounded by a green border with a green tick in the top right corner. Then, if you want to see your changes implemented right away, you’ll need to exit the La?uncher and re-open it. Either way, you’re?? free to log in and get to playing.

You can also choose for the background to be different each time you log in, adding a nice element of sur?prise to your login experience. To do this, make sure that every image (or the ones that you like) is surrounded by the green border and ticked off. Then, each time you log in, you’ll be greeted by someone different.

There’s no telling whether new backgrounds will eventually be added to? t?he launcher, or whether the current ones will ever change, so make sure to check back regularly and keep an eye on updates from Square Enix.

If you're like me, you've just finished Life is Strange: Double Exposure, and are looking for your next adventure game fix. Max Caulfield's return was great, but it's not the o??nly thi?ng the genre has to offer.

To help, we've put together a list of the eight adventure games you need to play if you like Life is Strange: Double Exposure. This should keep you busy.

Tell Me Why

adventure games to play if you like Life is Strange: Double Exposure
Image via DONTNOD Entertainment

Tell Me Why is pretty much Life is Strange 2.5. Released back in 2020, the project was DONTNOD's first project in its post-Life is Strange era, retaining eve??rything that made its previous titles so engaging.

You've got supernatural powers, deep characters, and impactful choices throughout this powerful story, which also tackles transgender issues with tact. If you're looking for something to really scratch that Life is Strange itch, then look no further than Tell Me Why.

The Wolf Among Us

adventure games to play if you like Life is Strange: Double Exposure
Image via Telltale

If you're someone who enjoyed the mystery element of Life is Strange: Double Exposure, then The Wolf Among Us could be right up your alley. Based on the Fables comic book series, you play Bigby Wolf, investigating Fabletown t?o solve several murders.

Its stylish cel-shaded graphics sets The Wolf Among Us apart from the crowd, while its narrative is arguably as strong as anything Telltale put out during its 2012-2018 heyday. We??'re still waiting on that sequel, though.

Twin Mirror

adventure games to play if you like Life is Strange: Double Exposure
Image via DON'T NOD

Twin Mirror is yet another DONTNOD game. No one quite captures the feeling of Life is Strange quite like its original creator - go figure.

What really separates Twin Mirror from other adventure games is its use of two dimensions - the real world, and main character Sam's "Mind Palace," where players can go to solve the game's main mystery. If this multi-dimension mechanic sounds a little Life is Strange: Double Exposure-y, that's because it is.

Road 96

adventure games to play if you like Life is Strange: Double Exposure
Image via Digixart

Road 96 is one of the most unique games I've ever played. This isn't your typical adventure game, with one main character driving the narrative. Instead, Road 96 sees you play as a group of te??enagers trying to f??lee an authoritarian regime.

In each section, you'll learn more about these characters and their individual circumstances. You can succeed in your escape, or fail and be arrested or killed. It's a game that allows you to fail - the narrative hurtles to its conclusion regardless, giving every player a unique ending. The entire package is wrapped in unique minigames, making Road 96 unlike any adventure game yo?u'll have previously played.

As Dusk Falls

adventure games to play if you like Life is Strange: Double Exposure
Image via INTERIOR/NIGHT

2022's As Dusk Falls is a part adventure game and part interactive novel. Most of the time, you're watching the story unfold, interjecting to make narrative decisions at key moments. It's a very different experience coming from Life is Strange: Double Exposure, but one I'm?? confident fans of the game will enjo??y.

As Dusk Falls' most striking element has to be its art style. Each scene is portrayed throug??????????????????????????h images, which have almost a realistic oil painting effect. It's a fantastic way to hide a lower budget, and you still feel every choice the game offers you with the same emotional weight.

Detroit: Become Human

adventure games to play if you like Life is Strange: Double Exposure
Image via Quantic Dream

Straight from the brain of writer-director David Cage comes Detroit: Become Human. Set in the kind-of-distant future of 2038, this adventure game goes heavy on the detective-mystery angle, which is sure to appeal to those coming off the back of Life is Strange: Double Exposure.

You're always making choices in Detroit: Become Human. Some are small and inconsequential, while others are the difference between life and death for the game's three protagonists. It's a thrilling sci-fi adventure that keeps you on the edge of your seat, even if its social commenta??ry feels a little heavy-h?anded at times. As far as production value goes, it's second to none on this list.

Night in the Woods

adventure games to play if you like Life is Strange: Double Exposure
Image via Infinite Fall

Night in the Woods is a small-scale adventure that broadly e?xplores the changing economic circumstances in Rust Belt America and the effect of mental illness. It's ?not exactly the most light-hearted topic for a video game, but it makes for an engaging story nonetheless.

Night in the Woods rewards you for engaging with the world around you. Speak to certain characters more than others, and you'll see them pop up more later in the story. Ignore them, and you'll be left in the dark, giving Night in the Woods tons of replayability for more playthroughs. If you've just hopped out of Life is Strange: Double Exposure, this experience will represent an ??interesting?? change of pace.

Life is Strange

adventure games to play if you like Life is Strange: Double Exposure
Image via DONTNOD Entertainment

If you've finished Life is Strange: Double Exposure, why not go back to where Max Caulfield's adventure began with the original Life is Strange? It's the perfect opportunity to go back and compare the differences between how DONTNOD and Deck Nine handl??ed Ma??x.

Obviously, if you've played Double Exposure, there's a good chance you've already played 2015's Life is Strange. Still, its emotional story p?acks just as much of a punch as it did almost a decade ago, even on re?peat playthroughs.

There are a lot of hidden secrets in Life is Strange: Double Exposure. Some of them have huge, meaningful consequences, while others are seemingly just there for fun. One of the latter types?? i?s the Platypus Facts service.

I don’t know about you, but I, for one, find platypuses (p?latypi?) infinitely fascinating. They’re mammals that lay eggs, they have beaks and webbed feet, and they’re also cute to boot. But they’re also a natural anomaly, and if there were a service I could sign up for that would give me endless facts about nature's little freak? Well, sign me up!

How to sign up for Platypus Facts in Life is Strange: Double Exposure

Signing up for Platypus Facts will have to wait until the second scene of Chapter 2, after Safi in the Living World has revealed that someone put a cow skull through her windshield and Max takes it upon herself to investigate th?e matter.

Once you reach the North Quad, before talking to Vinh, Lucas, or Gwen, make sure to do a little exploring. The Platypus Facts sign-up sheet is pinn??ed to the first tree past the statue from where Max begins the scene, but it’s not that straightfor??ward.

The tree where you'll find the Platypus Facts sign up sheet in the Dead World in Life is Strange: Double Exposure

What’s on the tree is differen?t in the Living and Dead Worlds. In the Living World, there is still a sign-up sheet, but it’s one from Amanda that people can sign up to help at the soup kitchen. While this is certainly a good cause, it’s not what we’re here for.

The two different sign up sheets in Life is Strange: Double Exposure

To find the Platypus Facts sign-up sheet, carry on down the path toward the shelter where you found the Abraxas Puzzle Box in Chapter 1, and you’ll find a portal to the right side of the shelter. Use this to make your way to the Dead W??orld, then backtrack to the tree to find the sign-up sheet.

You’ll need to look at the sheet, then interact with it again and select the “Sign Up?opti?on. This will cause a small cutscene where Max sends a text to the number shown, and you officially become signed up to receive periodical facts about the platypus.

How to get the Platypus Genius achievement in Life is Strange: Double Exposure

One of the Platypus Facts text messages in Life is Strange: Double Exposure
Screenshot by Destructoid

Signing up to receive the facts isn’t enough to unlock the achievement, which doesn’t actually get rewarded until you’ve completed Chapter 5. There are a f?ew things to remember when working towards this achievement:

  1. Max will only receive Platypus Facts text messages when she’s in the Dead World. Each time you pop over to this timeline, make sure to check your messages to see what new facts have appeared.
  2. Simply receiving text messages isn’t enough to get the achievement, as you’ll need to actually read every one of them as well.
  3. If you’ve missed any text messages before completing Chapter 5, you won’t get the achievement, so make sure to stay on top of them, even in the chaotic events of the final chapter.

Provided you’ve remembered all of this, you’ll come out of Life is Strange: Double Exposure a certified Platypus Genius, able to spread the random facts you’v?e learned.

One of the optional things you can complete in Chapter 1 of Life is Strange: Double Exposure ??involves the Abraxas Puzzle Box. It’s an e??asy little side task that’s easy to miss if you don’t know where to look.

Life is Strange: Double Exposure is filled with side tasks for Max to complete, and many of them aren’t required to progress. However, completing them anyway may o??r may not unlock additional content further down the line, so exploring every scene thoroughly is recommended.

To find th??e Abraxas Puzzle Box, you’ll need to approach Reggie after heading to campus to meet with Yasmin, but before you enter the building itself. You can find Reggie sitting in the shelter just beyond the R.I.P. Graffiti Rock, which is close by when the cutscene with Amanda ends.

If you’ve already completed Chapter 1, don’t worry; you can go back to this specific point by opening the Main Menu, selecting “Chapter Selec??t,?then “Chapter 1," then “Back to School Blues."

As ??you approach Reggie, you’ll automatically enter into a cutscene where you’ll see him throw a wooden box to th??e ground in frustration. After the cutscene ends, you can either pick up the box immediately or talk to Reggie. Talking to him will open a dialogue to talk about Safi and the previous events of the chapter.

After the discussion ends, interact with the box and select “Take?to spark another cutscene with Reggie, during which he’ll tell you that it’s an Abraxas Puzzle box and there are goodies inside, but only for those who are abl?e to open it. It’s designed to test a key Abraxas virtue ?the eye for detail.

How to solve the first layer of the Abraxas Puzzle Box in Life is Strange: Double Exposure

To solve the first layer of the Abraxas Puzzle Box, you’ll need to first inspect it thoroughly. Start by rotating it in all directions to see what’s on each side. The side you need to worry about first, though, is the one with the Founder’s Statue:

The Founder's Statue on the Abraxas Puzzle Box in Life is Strange: Double Exposure
Screenshot by Destructoid

Interact with this side, and Max will comment that it’s missing something ?his second bird. This is your hint for which side you need to inspect next, so now you’ll need to find the side with a bird on it:

The bird on the Abraxas Puzzle Box in Life is Strange: Double Exposure
Screenshot by Destructoid

After interacting with the side t?hat shows a bird, Max will notice that the center image is surrounded by Max, and ask Reggie for a lighter. Reggie will use his lighter to melt the wax, and the center?? image of the bird will fall out. When you’re looking at the Abraxas Puzzle Box again, rotate it until you can see the Founder’s Statue and the option to “Place bird.?nbsp;

Place the bird on the shoulder of the Founder's Statue to open the first layer of the Abraxas Puzzle Box in Life is Strange: Double Exposure

Do this, and then the box will open, only to reveal another sligh?tly smaller box that will presumably need to be solved later on. Reggie will hand ove??r the Puzzle Boz to you, and you'll stash it away in your bag.

How to solve the second layer of the Abraxas Puzzle Box in Life is Strange: Double Exposure

The next opportunity you’ll have to mess around with the Abraxas Puzzle Box won’t come until the final scene in Chapter 2, when Moses is waiting for you down in the Dark Room after you’ve retrieved Safi’s camera from the hiding place in his office.

When you get to Max’s house, ?make sure you’re in the Dead Wo??rld and then head to the kitchen to find the Puzzle Box sitting on the counter next to the sink:

The second layer of the box is much more difficult than the first, and you’ll need to know ??a little something about constellations (something we saw a lot of in the previous scene) in order to complete it. Or, you can just keep reading, and we’ll give you the answers.

However you choose to proceed, interact with the box and rotate i??t?? until you find the side with constellations and four movable pegs:

Constellation puzzle in Life is Strange: Double Exposure
Screenshot by Destructoid

Interacting with this side will zoom in slightly and allow you to move the pegs. To ge??t this right and complete this layer, you’ll need to move the pegs in the following configuration:

  • Move the first peg down two notches
  • Move the second peg down two notches
  • Move the third peg down one notch
  • Move the fourth peg down two notches

In the end,?????????????????????????? it should look something like this, completing the shown constellation:

Constellation puzzle solution in Life is Strange: Double Exposure

Completing this face of the box will cause a panel to pop open and a dial to be ejected from the side of the box. Take t??he dial, then find the face that matches it to add the second dial, as shown below:

Screenshot by Destructoid

Thi??s will cause both dials to become movable. While this might seem daunting, as there are a lot of possible combinations with two moving dials, the answer is pleasingly simple. All you need to do is leave the outer dial completely alone, instead turning the inner one that you just placed to the right twice. When you’ve done that, the box lid will pop open.

Removing the lid from the box will reward you with an Abraxas? Pin, making Max an official member of?? the Abraxas Society.

What happens when you solve the Abraxas Puzzle Box in Life is Strange: Double Exposure?

Honestly, not a whole lot. There is an achievement for completing th?e Box, so it’s definitely something you should do as you progress through the story, but other than that, it’s all a bit anticlimactic.

The next time you hear anything about the Box will be in the third scene of Chapter 3, when you’re in the Admin building talking to Vinh and Diamond. This discussion seems to be the trigger for Max getting a text message in the Dead World from an unknown number, congratulating her on ??solving the box and welcoming her to the Abraxas Society.

After that, the only time it comes up again is during Chapter 4. While Max is at the Krampus Party in the Living World, and after coming up with the plan to expose Lucas with Safi, you can walk by a couple of students in the corner near the pirate and cat mural. They’ll shout out, “One of us!”?/p>

The first ever savage-tier 24-player ‘Chaotic?Alliance Raid is coming to Final Fantasy XIV on December 24, and this Christmas is going to be all about taking part to get sweet, s??weet r??ewards.

Thankfully, we don’t have to wait until then to figure out the specifics, such as unlock requirements, how to queue, or even how the reward system will work. All of this information was graciously given during the 83rd Live Letter from the Producers on November 1. So, without further ado, let’s get into the det?ails.

How to unlock The Cloud of Darkness (Chaotic)

The Cloud of Darkness (Chaotic) in Final Fantasy XIV

According to the information we’ve already been given, unlocking The Cloud of Darkness (Chaotic) won’t take much additional effort outside of comple?ting the main story because it will become unlocked after you’ve completed the following quest:

  • Level 100 MSQ quest “Dawntrail?/li>

When it’s unlocked, you’ll be able to queue via either the Raid Finder, which is accessed through the Duty Finder, o?r through Party Finder. As this is high-level and brutally punishing content designed for those who already participate in Savage or Ultimate duties, it will be on the same menu.

How many players are needed for The Cloud of Darkness (Chaotic)

The Cloud of Darkness (Chaotic) in Final Fantasy XIV

According to information given during the Live Letter, the first Chaotic Raid can technically be completed with as few as 12 players, provided those players are part of a preformed team. However, just because it can be completed with 12 players, that doesn’t necessarily mean that it should be completed with 12 players.

The duty difficulty is balanced and optimized for the full amount of 24 players, so rocking up with 12 players is likely to be something to strive for in the long run rather than something to try on day one. There are defin??itely teams out there who could climb that mountain and come out victorious, but for the average player, it’s likely to be a huge challenge.

According to Yoshida (with translations provided by Iluna Minori on the FFXIV Discord Server), the Chaotic Raid sits somewhere between The Dragonsong’s Reprise and The Omega Protocol in terms of difficulty. App??????????????????????????arently, mechanics will be coming thick and?? fast, so players will need to adapt their speed and movement accordingly.

?With that in mind, the party composition for Chaotic raids will be identical to that seen in regular alliance raids. That means youll need three parties made up of the following roles:

  • 2 Tanks
  • 2 Healers
  • 4 DPS

Rewards for The Cloud of Darkness (Chaotic)

So far, we know that there will be a number of rewards up for grabs for completing The Cloud of Darkness (Chaotic). While the specifics of some of them have not yet been revealed (minions and hairstyles), we do have some information?? about the mounts and gear that will be dropped.

Firstly, the Chaotic Raid will reward a number of Tokens. These can then be traded for drops that are more on the rare side. However, everything that can be gained with Tok??ens will be available as a drop when completing the duty.&nbs?p;

iLvl 730 gear

While iLvl 730 gear is already available in FFXIV, it is locked behind th??e AAC Light-heavy??weight Savage Raids. So even if this new gear isn’t a step up in terms of stats, it is nice to have another source for max iLvl gear.

It’s also a solid alternative if you’re not a fan of the? current max iLvl gear; there’s definitely a different look to the gear that will drop from the Chaotic, some of which can be seen above.

Tile mount

The exact name of this mount ??is not yet known, but it is essentially one of the tiles that appear during the Raid itself. For anyone who is ??familiar with a specific tile mechanic that has previously been used, this will give them some idea of one of the mechanics to expect from the Raid.

This mount also features an action that causes the player to panic before ??t??he mount disappears from beneath them.

Have you ever wanted to become the Cloud of Darkne??ss? Well now you can with the Cloud of Darkness mount. Yoshida showed off how this mount looks with his Lalafell, and with just his head sticking out, I can only imagine how this looks with a Roedagyn floating? around inside.

How does the bonus reward system work in FFXIV?

For the first time, there will be a bonus reward system that centers around the Cloud of Darkness (Chaotic). There will be two different types of bonuses, one of which is m?ore reliable than the other.

First-time duty bonus

Just like when you run any dungeon or other duty in FFXIV, the new Chaotic Raid will fe??ature a bonus that rewards additional Tokens if one or more players are new to the duty. Naturally, this means that if you’re diving in on the first day (December 24), then you’ll ge?t a hefty number of Tokens for your troubles.

Limited time bonus

The limi??ted-time bonus is slightly more complicated, and if you’ve ever farmed for light during a Relic We??apon grind, then you’ll know what to expect. At certain times, a DC may have a limited-time bonus applied to The Cloud of Darkness (Chaotic). This will be different for each DC, so you might want to think about getting to grips with the DC travel system.

During this limited-time bonus, the number of Tokens that drop will increase, ??and the drop rate of items will also increase. If your DC has this bonus applied on release day, then expect a lot of international visitors.
