Bug Meat is the only type of meat available in Stardew Valley, and is incredibly useful for fishing, as it’s used for ??making multiple types of bait. Thankfully, Bug Meat is pretty easy to get your hands on in a variety of different ways.

The easiest way to get Bug Meat is by venturing into the Mi??nes or Skull Cavern. Inside these, you’ll encounter a myriad of bugs th?at drop it when killed, including armored ones if you have the Bug Killer enchantment forged to your weapon.

Here are all of the bugs that drop Bug Meat, and how l?ikely you are to get it from them:

Bug Drop chance
Bug / Dangerous Bug 76%
Cave Fly / Dangerous Cave Fly 90%
Grub / Dangerous Grub 60%
Mutant Fly 90%
Mutant Grub 60%
Armored Bug 76%
Armored Bug / Dangerous Armored Bug 76%

There are three other potential ways to get Bug Meat in Stardew Valley:

  • Occasionally appears in the rotating stock at the Traveling Cart for between 100 and 1,000 Gold
  • Dorado, Lingcod, and Pike Fish Ponds can produce 20 Bug Meat after the population reaches 9
  • 3 Bug Meat can be purchased from Vincent at the Desert Festival for 1 Calico Egg

Bug Meat is a universally hated gift in Stardew Valley and is also not a?? part of any Bundles. However, that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t have its uses.

Crafting

As I said, Bug Meat comes in most handy for those who enjoy fishing in Stardew Valley, as it is the main i?ng??redient in multiple different baits:

Item Recipe How to get recipe
Bait 1 Bug Meat Unlocks at fishing level 2
Wild Bait 5 Bug Meat
10 Fiber
5 Slime
Reach 4 heart friendship with Linus
Magic Bait 3 Bug Meat
1 Radioactive Ore
Purchase from Mr. Qi for 20 Qi Gems

It’s also used in two further recipes, one of which? can be very? useful if you enjoy diving into the Mines or Skull Cavern:

Item Recipe How to get recipe
Sturdy Ring 25 Bug Mea
t2 Copper Bars
25 Slime
Unlocks at combat level 1
Bug Steak 10 Bug Meat Unlocks at combat level 1

Tailoring

When ?used in the spool of a sewing machine with plain cloth, Bug Meat will produce a pint-striped shirt. When placed in the Spool alongside any dyeable item of clothing, the Bug Meat will turn the i??tem dark pink.

Bug me??at can also be placed into the purp??le dye pot in Emily and Haley’s house.

Quests

There are three different quests which may re?quire Bug Meat:

  • Some fish may request 10 Bug Meat as part of their Fish Pond quests
  • Willy will request 100 Bug Meat to complete his “Juicy Bugs Wanted!â€?special order. If completed, this quest rewards 3,000 Gold and the recipe for a Quality Bobber
  • The Raccoon may request 20 Bug Meat in any request following his fifth

Solar essence is a surprisingly helpful resource in Stardew Valley, as you can use it to make money, complete the Community Center, and as a gift for a particular villager. However, while you can quickly stockpile this resource during your ??playthrough, finding your first few can be a challenge, especially early on.

Where to find Solar Essence in Stardew Valley

Solar essence is a monster drop from several enemies in the mines. Bel??ow is a list of every enemy that drops solar essence:

  • Ghost
  • Mummy
  • Iridium Bat
  • Metal Head
  • Haunted Skull
  • Squid Kid
  • Hot Head
  • Blue Squid (Dangerous Mines)

In particular, farming mummies and ghosts in the Skull Cavern mi??nes is one of the best ways to get solar essence, as both have an almost guaranteed drop of one essence, with a low chance of spawning a second. However, mummies require bombs to eliminate, so make sure you bring a few before venturing into the mines.

Metal head??s in the regular mines are also great sources of solar essence. Although their odds of dropping it are lower than ghosts and mum?mies, they're a good way to get some early before you unlock the desert.

Alternatively, you can buy solar essence from Krobus' shop for 80 coins each. How??ever, this is mainly helpful if you need it for the Community Center or gifting rather than making money.

What is Solar Essence used for in Stardew Valley?

Solar essence has multiple uses in Stardew Valley, including donating to the Community Center, crafting multiple items, and gifting to the Wizard as a loved gift. If you're looking to befriend the Wizard quickly, giving him solar essence is a great way to boost his friendship, especially on his birthday on Winter 17. Otherwise, you can use one solar essence in the Adventurer's Bundle in the Community Center to progress through ??the Boiler Room.

If you're more interested in crafting, you can use solar essence t??o make the following i??tems:

  • Iridium Band
  • Mega Bomb
  • Quality Bobber
  • Hyper Speed-Gro
  • Glowstone Ring
  • Mini-Obelisk
  • Barrel Brazier

Solar essence by?? itself als??o sells for 40 gold per item, making it a solid option to toss into your shipping bin if you need extra money and farm an abundance of it.

There’s plenty of fish to catch in Stardew Valley. One such fish, the Woodskip, i?s required to complete the?? Speciality Fish bundle within the Community Center. The trouble is, it’s only found in one very specific location which isn’t accessible early on, unless you use a simple trick.

Woodskips have a few different uses other than the Community Center bundle, but I’ll get to those later. For now, let’s look at where to find a Woodskip and how you can sneak in if you’re hoping to catch one earlier than Stardew Valley will realistically let you.

How to catch a Woodskip in Stardew Valley

Fishing in the Secret Woods in Stardew Valley

To catch a Woodskip, you’ll need?? access to the Secret Woods, which can be found off to t??he northeastern side of Cindersap Forest. Unfortunately, the Secret Woods are rendered inaccessible in the beginning of a playthrough and are unlocked by upgrading your axe twice to the Steel version.

Thankfully, if you’re wanting to get a Woodskip wi?thout upgrading, you have an option. You can bypass the log us?ing a chair.

  1. Place a chair on the opposite side of the log
  2. Sit on the chair, then hop off again into the Secret Woods
  3. When you want to come back, move the chair to the Cindersap Forest side of the log and sit down again

Once you’re inside the Secret Woods, head over to the far left and find the small pond. This is the only location in Stardew Valley where you can catch a Woodskip, unless you’re playing on a Forest Farm, where you have a maximum of 17.5% chance to catch it. It can be caught during any season and in a??ny weather, though is most common during non-rain?y days.

It’s possible to find a Woodskip for sale at the Traveling Cart at any time, priced between 225 and 1,000 Gold, but thi?s is far from guaranteed.

If you’ve caught a Woodskip and you don’t need it for your Speciality Fish Bundle, there are still a few things that can be done with it. One thing that shouldn’t be done with a Woodskip is as a gift to Villagers. At best, a few people feel ??pretty neutral about it, but the rest of the Villagers either actively dislike or even hate receiving a Woods??kip.

Cooking recipes that can use Woodskip

Woodskip can be used in the following Recipes:

Name Recipe Recipe source
Maki Roll 1 of any Fish
1 Seaweed
1 Rice
The Queen of Summer (Summer 21, Year 1)
OR
Stardrop Saloon for 100 Gold
Quality Fertiliser 4 Sap
1 of any Fish
Farming level 9
Sashimi 1 of any Fish In the mail from Linus after reaching 3 hearts

Tailoring for the Fishing Vest

Woodskip can be used in the spool of a Sewing Machin??e to get the Fishing Vest. It can also be used in the Dye Pots in Emily and Haley’s house to get orange dye.

When placed in a Fish Pond, Woodskip will reproduce every two days. They can drop the following foraging items?, as well as Roe:

It's no secret that Stardew Valley is the responsibility of a small developer. Eric "ConcernedApe" Barone was busy trying to get the hotly anticipated 1.6 update out for PC, which finally went live in March. Since then, the??y've been ?promising patches for the console and mobile ports of the game, though they haven't emerged yet.

Patience is very much appreciated from Barone, and a recent post on Twitter/X is keeping us in the loop on Stardew Valley 1.6 f??or console and mobile. The latest is that the developer is "doing everything within my power to have the ports ready as soon as possible."

//twitter.com/ConcernedApe/status/1790396655054848363

There's still no release d?ate yet, but the fact of the matter is: "the ports require extra w??ork beyond the PC version." The important thing is that it's being worked on, but being a small outfit, it's understandable that it takes time to deliver huge updates.

Also...

In the mean?time, PC users will have another patch coming their way soon. The post above goes on to say that more bug fixes are in the pipeline. The game is already on version 1.6.6, so it sounds like 1.6.7 is hopefully being sent out soon.

Stardew Valley is one of the most successful games on the indie scene. Released in 2016, and with a current Steam review score of "Overwhelmingly Positive," Barone's life simul?ator has been a breath of fresh air, offering a chill gameplay environment in an idyllic and colorful setting.

The 1.6 update does add a huge amount of new content and some changes to ?the game, which is why console and mobile players are so keen to get their hands on it. Rest assured, Barone is on the case, and it'll be ??ready when it's ready.

There’s a good chance the first less common resource you’ll find yourself needing in Stardew Valley is hardwood. It’s used to create a number of crafting tools, and is required for the first upgrade to ?your house. You need it in abundance.

The most common and reliable place to get hardwood is from large stumps. Depending on the farm layout you choose, you may?? have a few of these stumps right in your field. Otherwise, you can find them in the secret forest located in the Northwest corner of Cindersap Forest (the area south of the farm). However, to get there, you need to clear a log with a steel axe.

And that’s the important part: in order to break the stumps you need a copper axe (upgraded at the blacksmith for 5 copper bars) and to get to the most reliable supply in the secret forest, you need a steel axe (upgraded at the blacksmith for 5 iron bar??s.)

To get a lot of hardwood, I’d recommend focusing on upgrading your axe. However, there are other ways to ge??t it, you just might be causing yourself a bigger headache in the process.

Grow mahogany trees on your farm

Mahogany trees are a less common tree type that you can grow on the Stardew Valley farm using mahogany seeds. The most important feature about the??m is that chopping them down results in hardwood. You can get these in a number of pla??ces, but most reliably from cutting large stumps or killing slimes in the secret forest (again, requiring improved axes.)

If you’re lucky enough to find them here or through other means (such as in a golden coconut), then you can start your mahogany farm by planting it as you would any other tree. Once it’s grown, you can ch??op it down with a normal axe, or leave it as is and shake it occasionally to get more mahogany seeds to grow more trees.

There’s one problem with this process: mahogany trees have a variable growth time. Each night, they have a chance to advance to the next stage of growth, but it isn’t guaranteed. If you fertilize the tree, it had a higher chance, but it’s still not 100%. It’s a 15% chance it will hit the next stage if it’s unfertilized and 60% if it is fertilized. That means you might have a fully gro??wn tree in a few days, or it can take much, much longer.

However, once you have a good grove growing o??n your farm, it’s easier to maintain a good population and cut them down as you see fit, keeping you supplied with a constant source of hardwood.

Cut mahogany trees on Ginger Island

In Stardew Valley, Ginger Island has mahogany trees just growing in the wild. This means you can simply visit the island and harvest a significant? supply ?of both hardwood and mahogany seeds.

Obviously, this is a handy source of the material, but unfortunately, it won’t make it quicker to get a stockpile. That’s because you n?eed to fix the boat in order to get to Ginger Island. To fix the boat, you need a?? bunch of materials, including 200 hardwood.

It’s something to keep in mind, but at this point in the game, ??you would probably already have a supply of hardwood.

The Lumberjack skill

Another decent source of hardwood is by getting the Lumberjack skill by leveling up your Foraging. Foraging can be l??eveled simply by chopping down trees or collecting wild plants from the environment.

You first need to pick the Forester skill when you reach level five in foraging. The Lumberjack skill is then an option once you get your foraging to level 10. With it, every tree that you chop down has a chance to drop hardwood. While this still makes it difficult to gather a steady supply of the resource, it does mean that you’ll continually gain a passive supply, just from going about your day.

But, to reiterate, the best source of hardwood in Stardew Valley is ?the respawning large stumps in the secret forest. This requires you to upgrade your axe before you can access it them.

Back in March, Stardew Valley creator Eric "ConcernedApe" Barone released the long-awaited 1.6 update for the farming sim sensation. The patch was nothing short of mega, adding tons to do for veterans and newcomers alike. Seriously. Just try not getting an aching scroll finger checking out the changelog.

Unfortunately, at the time, it was only available on PC. Barone has made it clear that the console and mobile ports of the game are still being worked on, but it's going to take a bit more time. It's completely understandable, seeing as Stardew Valley is a one-person project.

//twitter.com/ConcernedApe/status/1783944693434486794

However, many will be wondering where version 1.6 is or how far along it's come. PC players are already on 1.6.6, which m?eans if you're on another platform, you're already several versions behind.

Where is the Stardew Valley 1.6 console update?

When the latest update for PC went live on April 26, Baro?ne linked to the patch notes, which outlined the additional changes and bug fixes that had been implemented. Along with this, there was a clear message that the "console and mobile ports are still in progress," with a thank-you message to those who have been patient.

This appears to be the last time the developer spoke about the update on non-PC systems.?? As a result, it's impossible to know at what stage it's at or when it's likely to release.

It's also important to know that Barone has been pretty forthcoming in telling fans that patience is needed regarding updates and new content. As it stands, version 1.6 is in the pipeline for console and mobile versions of Stardew Valley. It's just a case of waiting. Howev?er, I am going to go ahead and assume it'll be v.1.6.x by the time it's released, putting it on par with P??C.

Stardew Valley is filled with quests to complete and secrets to find, some of which unlock new areas to explore. One of these new areas, the Witch’s ?Swamp, not only unlocks new sights but a?lso new features. Here’s how to unlock it.

Before you can trigger the quest that unlocks the Witch’s Swamp, you’ll need to have either completed the Community Center bundles or the Joja Warehouse tasks. Once youâ€?™ve done that, you’ll need to wait for a cutscene in the Mountains to play one night after you retire to bed.

How to complete Dark Talisman in Stardew Valley

The Wizard in Stardew Valley

After the Mountain cutscene, you’ll receive a letter from the Wizard in the mail. His ex-wife, also known as the Witch,?? has some magic ink in her house that needs to be retrieved. Unfortunately, you can’t just rock up to the Wit?ch’s Hut and ask for it back - you need to find the Dark Talisman first, which will grant you access to the Swamp.

To complete the Dark Talisman, you’ll need to first talk to Krobus. He can unlock a door within the Sewers ??that leads to the Mutant Bug Lair. Head inside, and you’ll find the Dark Talisman after battling?? through, as the name suggests, some mutant bugs.

Once you’ve got the Dark Talisman, head north to the Railroad area and find the cave in the top right corner. You’ll be able to place the Talisman on the artifact blo?cking the entrance and proceed through the cave.

Make sure to take some Void Mayonnaise w?ith you when you enter the Swamp. You’ll need to give it to the Witch’s Henchman, completing another quest call?ed Goblin Problem and allowing you further into the Swamp. Head into the Witch’s Hut and you’ll find the magic ink on a table, which you can pick up and return to the Wizard to complete Dark Talisman.

What to do at the Witch’s Swamp in Stardew Valley

There are a few things that you can do once you’ve gained access to the Witch’s Swamp. There are a couple of fish there, Void Salmon and Catfish. Voi??d Salmon don’t spawn anywhere else, and Catfish only appear on rainy days.

The main draw of the Witch’s Swamp, though, is the Witch’s Hut itself. Inside, you’ll find three different shrines, all of which are useful in a different way and need a sp??ecific offering to use:

Shrine Effect Required offering
Dark Shrine of Memory Erases the memory of all past spouses (including Krobus), allowing you to build relationships with them again. 30,000 Gold
Dark Shrine of Selfishness Turns any existing children into doves, permanently removing them from a playthrough 1 Prismatic Shard
Dark Shrine of Night Terrors You can use this shrine to toggle monsters appearing on your farm at night on and off. Works on all farm maps. 1 Strange Bun (per use)

There are a lot of fish in Stardew Valley and most of them are fairly simple to find. However, the Ghostfish only spawns in a very specific location and while there i??s an alternative way to get your hands on one, that way isn’t exactly guaranteed either.

While the Ghostfish isn’t the most valuable fish, even when a high quality one is smoked, you ?do need one for a few different things and they can give some particularly useful items when in a Fis??h Pond, but more on that later.

How to get a Ghostfish in Stardew Valley

You can catch a Ghostfish on levels 20 and 60 of the Mines in Stardew Valley

If you’re after a Ghostfish in Stardew Valley, I’m afraid you have little choice but to head into the Mines. Once inside, if y??ou want to actually catch the fish, you’ll need to head down to either floor 20 or floor 60 in order to fis??h there.

If you’re wanting to test your mettle, or hoping to avoid Fishing, you can battle some Ghosts between floors 51 and 79 of the Mines. They hav?e an 8% chance to drop a Ghostfish when defeated.

There’s a small chance t??hat the Traveling Cart will stock a Ghostfish at any time, as they’re part of the vendor's rotating stock. If a Ghostfish does show up, it will ??cost between 135 and 1,000 Gold to purchase.

The main use for a Ghostfish in Stardew Valley is as part of the Fish Tank Bundle in the Community Center. There are no Villagers who like or love to receive Ghostfish as a gift, though they are a hated gift for Evelyn, Haley,?? and Pierre.

After this, the most efficient way to use a Ghostfish ?is by putting it into a Fish Pond??. A Ghostfish will reproduce every 2 days, providing that you’ve got the capacity, and can possibly provide the following items:

Provided item # of Ghostfish in Pond Chance to drop per day
1 Roe 1-2
3-8
9-10
23-31%
36-73%
62-68%
1 Quartz 3-8
9-10
3-6%
5-6%
3 Quartz 9-10 10-11%
5 White Algae 9-10 4-5%
1 Refined Quartz 9-10 4%
3 Pale Broth 9-10 1.5-2%

A Ghostfish can be used in the spool of a Sewing Machine to create a Dyeable Fish Shirt, and in order to exp??and other Fish Pond's capacity from 7-10, two Ghostfish can be requested by Dorado, Lingcod, or Pike.

If all else fails, you can always simply sell your excess Ghostfish. They sell for between 54 and 135 Gold before smoking, depending on whether you have the Fisher and Angler professions chosen.

Once you’ve completed the Community Center bundles in Stardew Valley, you’ll unlock a whole bunch of new content like moving on to Ginger Island and unlocking the Movie Theater. Before you can?? unlock the Movie Theater and take in all the latest flicks, you’ve got one more bundle to compl??ete.

There’s nothing like an evening out at the movies - popcorn, grabber games, and a movie to end the evening i??n style. You’ve alr??eady completed a total of 30 bundles at this point, so what’s one more to add to the total if it lets you head out to the cinema?

If you’ve taken the Joja? route, then you don’t need to read this guide because it doesn’t apply to you. Otherwise, let’s get that Movie Theater unlocked.

How to unlock the Movie Theater in Stardew Valley

Once you’ve completed the bundles within the Community Center, you’ll need to wait for the night before the ne?xt rainy day. On that night, a cutscene will play where you discover the broken down remai??ns of the Pelican Town branch of Jojamart. Inside the rubble, you’ll find a Junimo who hasn’t been able to return to the forest just yet, but you can help him by completing one final bundle - The Missing Bundle.

The Missing Bundle ca?n seem pretty daunting at first, as it consists of some pretty hard to source items, but don’t worry. While, yes, this bundle requires some luck, you’ll eventually be able to hand in all of your items. Thankfully, while there are six options, you’ll only need to hand in five of the following:

  • 1 Wine of silver or better quality
  • 1 Dinosaur Mayonnaise
  • 1 Prismatic Shard
  • 5 gold quality Ancient Fruit
  • 1 gold or iridium quality Void Salmon
  • 1 Caviar

How to get silver quality Wine in Stardew Valley

Casks in the Basement in Stardew Valley

??This is probably the easiest item from the list to make, as it doe?sn’t require luck, merely time.

To make silver quality Wine, you’ll need to put any fruit into a Keg and wait for it to transform into wine, then you need to mature it?? in a Cask. Maturing Wine (or any alcohol) is what increases its quality.

Maturing Wine to silver quality takes 14 days, so once you’ve put your wine into a Cask, you’ll ha?ve some time to head out in search of the other items needed for The Missi?ng Bundle.

How to get Dinosaur Mayonnaise in Stardew Valley

Dinosaur (and rabbit) in Stardew Valley
Screenshot by Destructoid

Unlike the whole chicken and egg debate, the answer to which remains ambiguous, there’s no denying that the egg comes before the Mayonnaise. Wit?h that in mind, before you can get Dinosaur Mayonnaise, you’ll need? to get a Dinosaur Egg.

Fortunately, at least in Stardew Valley terms, the egg very much comes before the Dinosaur and there ar?e few ways to get your hands on a Dinosaur Egg:

  • From an existing Dinosaur
  • Digging up artifact spots in The Mountains or Quarry
  • Fishing Treasure Chests
  • Possible drop from a Pepper Rex
  • Prehistoric floors in Skull Cavern

Once you’ve got a Dinosaur Egg, ??you can either go straight to the Mayonnaise making stage by putting the Egg into a Mayonnaise Machine, or you can place it into an incubator to ensure a supply of future D?inosaur Eggs, using one of those to make the Mayo.

How to get a Prismatic Shard in Stardew Valley

A Prismatic Shard in Stardew Valley

If you’re looking for a Prismatic Shard, this guide should help you out.

In short, though, here’s a few of t??he most likely ways to find Prismatic Shards:

  • Iridium Nodes
  • Omni Geodes
  • Mystery Boxes
  • Fishing Treasure Chests after reaching level 6 fishing

Remember, Prismatic Shards are one of the rarest items in Stardew Valley, so none of the methods to get one h?ave a particu??????????????????????????larly high drop rate.

How to get a gold quality Ancient Fruit

Ancient Seeds in Stardew Valley
Screenshot by Destructoid

We’ve already covered how to get Ancient Seeds, but if you’re wondering how to maximise the chance of gold quality cro??ps, we’ve got you covered.

Essentially, the only answer here is Fertlizer, spec??ifically the type which increases soil quality and therefore the chance of yielding quality crops. There are three types, all with their own recipe:

Fertilizer Effect Recipe
Basic Fertilizer Increases soil quality a little 2 Sap
Quality Fertlizer Increases soil quality 4 Sap1 Fish
Deluxe Fertilizer Greatly increases soil quality 40 Sap1 Iridium Bar

Once you’ve got your chosen fertilizer in hand, till the soil and then use the fertl??izer before planting your ??crops.

How to catch a Void Salmon in Stardew Valley

Fishing in the Witch's Swamp in Stardew Valley
Screenshot by Destructoid

If you’re looking for this specific fish, then you’ll need to head to the Witch’s Swa??mp. It has no time or weather restraints.

To gain access to the Witch’s Swamp, you’ll first need to complete the ‘Dark Talismanâ€?quest. This quest becomes available o?nly once you’ve completed the Community Center, so now is about the time that you’ll be able to start working on it.

Here’s a quick guide to the Dark Talisman quest:

  • Talk to Krobus
  • Make your way through the Mutant Bug Lair
  • Retrieve the Talisman
  • Head to the cave near the Railroad, north of The Mountains

Once you’ve done this, you’re free to fish in the Witch’s Swamp. You’ll likely have to catch a few Void Salmon before you get a gold quality one, so remember to take plenty of Bait and Bobbers with you to help. I’d recommend the Trap Bobber.

How to make Caviar in Stardew Valley

Fish Ponds in Stardew Valley
Screenshot by Destructoid

Before you can make Caviar, you’ll need a Fish Pond, which is thankfully pretty simple to get. Just head up to Robin’s house, talk to her and select the Farm Buildings option. Fish Po?nds cost 5,000 Gold to build and need the following resources:

  • 200 Stone
  • 5 Seaweed
  • 5 Green Algae

Once you’ve constructed your Pond, you’ll need some Sturgeon to go into it, as these are the fish which provide the correct Roe to turn into Caviar. We have a guide on how to catch Sturgeon right here.

Once you’ve got your Roe, you’ll need to turn it into Caviar. To do this, simply place one Sturgeon Roe into a Preserves Jar and wai?t four days for i??t to turn into Caviar.

One of the main things you should focus your attention on in Stardew Valley is fixing up the Community Center. Repairing the different rooms inside no??t only helps to progress the main story, b??ut each room that you restore comes with a reward to help expand the horizons, so to speak.

Fully repairing the Community Center also allows you to move on to fixing Willy’s boat and, once you’ve?? done this, you can make your way to Ginger Island. You’ll also get the opportunity to unlock the Movie Theater.

Each room within the Community Center ?contains a number of bundles that need to be completed and each of these individual bundles ??offer a small reward, as well as the main reward for completing the room itself. You need to provide all of the items in a bundle unless otherwise specified.

To find out if something in your invento?ry is needed for a bundle, hover over it?? and the Golden Scroll icon to the right of your inventory will pulse if the item is still needed for a bundle.

There are a lot of things to collect and gather in Stardew Valley, with some being harder to find than others. One of these items, the Frozen Tear, can be a little elusive. It has many uses, ?including as a loved gift or part of a bundle, so let’s look at how to get one.

How to get a Frozen Tear in Stardew Valley

Inside the Mines in Stardew Valley
Screenshot by Destructoid

Whether you’re looking to woo Sebastian or want to craft a certain ring, you’ll need Frozen Tears in Stardew Valley. There’s a few ways to get them, but sadly few of them? are guaranteed. You’ll likely find a Frozen Tear laying on the floor when traversing the mines, between floors 40 and 79. Additionally, if you have the Statue of Endless Fortune, it’s guaranteed to give you a Frozen Tear once per year on Winter 10, in honor of Sebastian’s birthday.

Here are the other ways you can get a Frozen Tear in Stardew Valley:

  • Slaying Dust Sprites within the Mines
  • In containers between floors 40 and 79 of the Mines, if you’ve previously reached the bottom
  • Inside Frozen Geodes
  • Inside Omni Geodes
  • Inside Fishing Treasure Chests
  • In garbage cans after you’ve reached the bottom of the Mines
  • An Ice Pip Fish Pond may produce 5 Frozen Tears after the population has reached 9
  • The Wizard can send you a Frozen Tear through the mail

How to use a Frozen Tear in Stardew Valley

Sebastian from Stardew Valley

Frozen Tears aren’t worth the most, but they do sell for between 75 Gold and 97 Gold (depending on whether you chose the Gemologist profession when you hit level 5 in Mining). Other than that, there are a few different ways to use Frozen Tears in Stardew Valley, so you might need to stock up on them as you find them?? to ?do everything possible.

Gifting a Frozen Tear

Frozen Tears are on the list of Sebastian's loved gifts, but most villagers like to receive them.  Only the following three Villagers dislike receiv?ing a Frozen Tear as a gift:

  • Leah
  • Linus
  • Pierre

Bundles using a Frozen Tear

One Frozen Tear is required as part of the Geologist’s Bundle in the Boiler Room ?as part of the Community Center.

Quests requiring Frozen Tears

Occasionally, a Frozen Tear can be requested by someone on the ‘Help WantedBoard outside Pierre’s General Store, but the main quests involving Frozen Tears are Fish Pond Related.

  • To increase the capacity of a Blobfish Pond from one to three, 2 Frozen Tears may be requested
  • To increase the capacity of an Ice Pip Pond from three to five, 5 Frozen Tears may be requested

Crafting with a Frozen Tear

Frozen Tears are required to craft the Warrior Ring, which occasio??nally infuses the wearer with “warrior energyafter successfully slaying a monster. To make this, you’ll need:

  • 10 Iron Bars
  • 25 Coal
  • 10 Frozen Tears

Tailoring with Frozen Tears

A Frozen Tear can be used in the spool of a Sewing Machine to create a Dark Jacket, or otherwise works as a ??cyan dye when a dyeable item is placed within the feed of the Sewing Machine. It works as the same color dye when placed into the Dye Pots in Emily and Haley’s house.

When I received the gift of Stardew Valley from my husband back in December 2017, I never understood the importance o?r impact this game would have on me and my? mental health. It is the exact type of game that I needed when I was a child, and as an adult, I'm not ashamed to admit that I enjoy it for therapeutic reasons.

Stardew Valley is one of those games that I play when I ultimately need to relax. While I do play most games to relax, Stardew Valley takes that? to an extra level, and allows me not to feel so alone in the world. It gives me purpose on days where life socialization or life is too much. From the style of the music, the cute pixel art, and the various activities in the game, there is always something relaxing or therapeutic about it when I play it.

The artsyle is so cute it makes me happy

The pixel style of graphics, especially for Stardew Valley, reach the inner child in me that needed this game in my past. The bright colors, the palette in general make the world blend in together in an aesthetically cute pixel art, and cute things always make me happy and hopeful. The bright palette adds tones of extra cheerfulness of the game, which helps brighten my moods?.

Even the stormy days always bring to mind something—my best frie??????????????????????????nd who loved storms, the intense rain noises that I love listening to, even when the thunder is too loud. I also have to make sure, during the summer season, to have enough lightning rods. Though they do create batteries when struck by lightning, I also just get sad if lightning happens to strike any of my crops or flowers. Especially when crops get destroyed, as it ruins my sometimes perfected layouts and growth.

The activities bring me joy

There is so much to do in Stardew Valley that it's always fun. There is mining, which I love the exploration of the cave system,?? the peaceful bits of the mining, and then the bits of combat as I travel deeper. The further I travel, the more the zones change in appearance, from normal stone tiling, to a frozen ancient castle appearance, and then even a magma-like filled cavern?. Fishing, while I use a mod on PC because the mini-game is a bit too difficult, is fun as well. I adore playing the mini-game for fishing on the Nintendo Switch, , as I can utilize the controls for it better.

I love the variety of fish that the game provides, and for some reason, the purple super cucumber caught in the ocean is one of my favorites. I love the farming aspects as well, both the crop raising and animal raising aspects. Being able to pet the animals every morning, including the starter pe??t from the new game menu, makes me happy. I love the little chicken and cow a?nd goat noises, and while it's sometimes tedious, I love hunting them down for pets in the mornings. Sometimes I'll sit in their fenced-in area, just to watch them wander around and listen to the animal sounds.

The music is soft, but upbeat, and happy. It fits the aesthetic of the game perfectly, makes it cheerful for even the most do??wntrodden souls. There is something about the way it transitions from the farm music to the town that seems like flawless execution, and I love that each season has various types of soundtracks that feel fitting for those months. Even the social aspect, like making friends and building romances, even up to marriage and having children, makes me happy. If I'm feeling especially alone on a specific day, I know I have friends in the game that are always happy to talk to me.

Being able to relax with friends in multiplayer, or even make friends with the non-player characters in the town and see them during each of the game's festivals brings a smile to my face, no matter how I'm feeling. While I have yet to actually finish the game, or really just see all of its events, Stardew Valley is always the one gam??e I turn to when I need a boost to my mood, when life just is too hard.

Who doesn't love a Steam sale? People who don't have a gaming PC? Okay, fair enough. But for many of us, it's a joyous time of discounts on things that have been on our wishlists longer than we'd like?? to admit. As of right mow*, there's a load o?f farming or farming-adjacent games for you to peruse in the latest event.

Over on the Farming Fest page itself, you can get Stardew Valley for a pretty hefty 34% off. Considered to be one of the best indie simulatio??n games in recent memory, if you've been on the fen??ce about it, now seems like a good time to pick up a copy.

//www.youtube.com/watch?v=XTnluVvBrQs

For something a little more contemporary, you can also get Manor Lords at a generous 25% discount. If you're not familiar with it, it's the medieval-based RTS that's currently in Early Access. It's doing pretty well for itself, topping the Steam charts and selling over a million copies in a day.

What else is there?

As is usually the case with these regular Steam sales, you've got a wee?k to make your purchases. Farming Fest will be ongoing until Monday, May 6, ending at 10AM PT. So what else is featured?

You could probably see this coming a mile off, but some of the Farming Simulator entries are also up for grabs for a bit cheaper. Both 22 and 19 are 30% a??nd 60% off, respectively. Makes sense these would be in?? the sale. They're pretty much the OGs of the genre.

There are also quite a lot of things that don't ring a bell for me. Your mileage may vary. Maybe you've been waiting for Plum Grove or Call of the Wild: The Angler to go down in price for a brief spell. Now's your chance to grab them. Or maybe?? you see this as a chance to try something new. The harvest is bountiful, ??as they say.

*This was a genuine typo, but I decided to keep it in because it works as a delicious farm-based pun. Yes, I'm this funny all the time.

Stardew Valley is incredibly successful due to the marvelous cozy vibes and nigh-limitless replayability options it offers. But players have found it's lacking something: the companions of Baldur's Gate 3.

Not to worry, though, as Stardew Valley modder Xun and their team are working on bringing a map and various characters from Baldur's Gate 3 to Stardew Valley.

//twitter.com/XunHe1145/status/1784190551211839734

What parts of Baldur's Gate 3 are coming to Stardew Valley in Baldur's Village?

Via Twitter, Xun mentions that their mod, Baldur's Village, will introduce a new map and four Baldur's Gate 3 cast members. You'll get to in?teract with fan-favorites Shadowheart, Halsin, Gale, and, naturally, Astarion.

The mod team says that only Asta??rion gets to be dateable right now, but Xun assures that Astarion wi??ll feature a unique romance plot and that more characters could join the dating roster in the future if things go well.

The mod still isn't out, but Xun's team has already completed the artwork for the map of Baldur's Village, four diff??erent styles o??f buildings, and the designs of Astarion, Shadowheart, and Gale. Below you can check out Astarion in one of many pieces of artwork teased by Xun:

Xun closes by thanking Himetarts and Wildflour for the creation of some free assets used in Baldur's Village. You can check out their mods here.

The team hopes to release the first part of Baldur's Village before the first anniversary of Baldur's Gate 3. While you wait, you can enjoy Stardey Valley on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, and PC. Baldur's Gate 3 is available on ????PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5.

Even in the modern age of constant internet connection, there are time??s when you simply can’t connect to the wifi. Whether you’re traveling, too far from civilization or you just want to disconnect, don’t worry, there’s still some games out there to keep you entertained even when there’s no signal.

As someone who spends ??a lot of time 30,000 feet up in the air, I’ve become pretty good at finding offline games to occupy my time when flying and I’m not one for gatekeeping, so I’m going to share those I’ve found with you.

1. Plague Inc

Plague Inc screen
Image via Ndemic Creations

There’s no two ways about it: Plague Inc is the perfect ga?me to play when you’re stressed out from traveling and would love to watch ??the world fall to pieces around you, even though you wouldn’t wish harm on anyone, realistically speaking.

In case you’ve not played before, the aim of Plague Inc is to create a deadly illness and eradicate life on Earth through adding contagious symptoms? and transmission methods. This game can admi?ttedly be pretty dark, but if you’d rather be the hero and save the world from a bacterial or viral threat, you can play Cure mode and race the infection to, well, cure the afflicted.

2. Dumb Ways To Die

Characters from Dumb Ways To Die

Dumb Ways To Die is a phenomenon which began as a clever advertising campaign, reminding people to stay safe around trains, for Metro in Melbourne way back in 2012. Now there are 11 Dumb games in total, bu?t the first remains?? the most entertaining for long play sessions.

The aim of Dumb Ways To Die is to, well, avoid dying a particularly dumb death. Whether you’re helping a bean avoid being eaten by a bear because they’re poking the beast with a stick, or helping a different bean avoid having their unmentionables bitten off because they decided to use them as piranha bait, there’s no denying that Dumb Ways To Die is still a hilariou?s and bizarre way to pass the time between Wi-Fi connections.

3. Stardew Valley

Stardew Valley main screen

Stardew Valley is an amazing time killer regardless of which platform you choose to p??lay on. You can spend hours clearing your farm, building friendships and exploring the world around you. One benefit of playing on mobile is that you can take it wherever you go, and you don’t need an internet connection to progress your story.

One amazing thing about Stardew Valley is that if you’re logged into the Google Play Store or App Store on more than one device, you only need to pay for it once. Once you’ve purchased it, you can install it on as many devices as you like. Sadly, your save files won’t transfer onto other devices, but thi?s does mean that you can do things in different ways, like going the Joja route. Heath??en.

4. Fallout Shelter

Screenshot of Vault in Fallout Shelter

If you love Fallout and have always wanted to be the Overseer of a Vault, then Fallout Shelter is the perfect game to kill some time while in waiting rooms or flying through the skies. Control your ??own Vault, build it however you like and even perform your own experiment?s if you want, there’s no limit to what you can do to your Vault dwellers. You can send them out on expeditions to explore the wastes, give them jobs within the Vault, and you even get to name their many, many children.

There are a host of familiar faces within Fallout Shelter, with the most rece?nt additions being charac??ters from the TV series, including Lucy and The Ghoul.

5. Papers, Please

Image from Papers, Please

Papers, Please, the border-control phenomenon by Lucas Pope, was released on PC back in 2013 and if you’ve ever wanted to take it with you, it’s available on both Android and iOS. I have to admit, it’s ironic to play Papers, Please wh?ile waiting in line at TSA, but it ?definitely helps to pass the time.

While the gameplay doesn’t feel quite as smooth as it does on PC because you have to keep switching between documents, the story, characters, and now-iconic sounds of Papers, Please are all very much present in the mobile versi??on.

6. Crossy Road

Crossy Road artwork
Image via Hipster Whale

As someone who grew up in the '90s, I’m pretty familiar with Frogger. In fact, I’d go as far as to say that I’m pretty good at the traffic jumping game. However, Crossy Road seems to exist purely to prov?e me wrong and I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve ended up splattered against the side of a lorry because I misju?dged the timing of a jump.

You start the game with a chicken whose only aim is to cross the road, although you don’t get any answers as to why, sadly. Progressing through the game rewards coins which can be spent on other animals and maps to navigate. During my travels between the US and UK, my Crossy Road skill has come on in leaps and bounds. (I’ll see?? myself out.)

7. Two Dots

Two Dots main artwork from the game
Screenshot by Destructoid

If you’re not up for the stress of avoiding traffic, don’t want to end the world, or simply want to relax, Two Dots is probably the best choice on this list. It’s a simple game of connecting the dots in straight lines (but not diagonally) to clear levels. You can spend hours trying to beat your own personal best score on any level, attempting to beat a level using as few moves as possible and, if you get bored of joining the dots, there are other things on offer in Two Dots as well, such as painting challenges.

One of the huge plus sides to Two Dots is the colorblind mode, for those who struggle to tell the colors of the dots apart. The accessibility option puts symbols onto each dot, allowing you to differentiate between them even if the colors a??re hard to tell apart.

8. Best Fiends

Artwork for Best Fiends
Image via Seriously Digital Entertainment

In the same vein as Two Dots, Best Fiends is a matching game which goes one step further and allows you to connect items diagonally. Through clearing botanical themed items, you help the bugs take down the evil slugs, and each bug has the??ir own corresponding color. Clearing items of this color allows the bugs to do more damage to the slugs. You can also upgrade your Fiends and unlock new ones, including some epic Fiends, along the way.

You only have limited moves per level and running out of moves means losing a life, but lives regenerate at a rate of one every twenty minutes so even if you do lose one, you’ll get it back soon enough. There’s not?hing more satisfying than creating a huge chain of items before quickly jumping to the e?nd of a level to take down the big, bad slug boss.

9. Pocket City 2

Screenshot showing a very progressed city in Pocket City 2

If you like city building games, I cannot recommend Pocket City 2 enough. The possibilities are endless and you can build anyth??ing from a small town to a huge, sprawling metropolis. If you’re traveling through cities, you can take inspiration from the things you see to design your own dream location, become the all-powerful ruler of your domain?? and build up the population.

Not only do you get to build your ci??ty, but ??once you’ve placed down a few buildings, you can enter free-roaming mode and explore the city from the perspective of a resident.

10. Once Upon a Tower

Once Upon a Tower screenshot
Image via Pomelo Games

If you’ve got an image in your head of a defenseless princess, locked in a tower, waiting for a prince to rescue her from the terrible dragon holding her captive, then think again. Once Upon a Tower sees you playing as the princess herself, who wields? a sledgehammer and uses it to descend the ?tower through breakable floors.

You’ll also use your sledgehammer to defeat enemies on the way down and collect fireflies, which accumulate over time and can be exchanged for rewards. It’s very easy to make mistakes in Once Upon a Tower, but you can always start again a?nd begin smashing your way ?through the levels.

The big new festival added to Stardew Valley with the long-awaited 1.6 update is called the Desert Festival. You’ll have acce??ss to it after you’ve mended the Bus and have access to the Calico Desert. The festival has a lot to enjoy, so let’s take a look.

The Desert Festival allows you to play minigames, delve into Skull Cavern, and hang out with Vil?lagers outside of their usual routine. Some very special and unique items are up for grabs using the event currency, Calico Eggs, and there are a lot of fun things to experience and discover.

When and where is the Desert Festival?

The calendar showing the dates of the Desert Festival in Stardew Valley

The Desert Festival is an annual event which takes place on the 15th. 16th and 17th days of Spring in the Calico Desert. You can’t get to the Desert Festival before you’ve completed the Vault Bundle. Thankfully, this Bundle doesn’t involve handing in items, but instead simply takes mon??ey to complete. You’ll need to pay a total of 43,500 Gold in order to complete the Bundle.

Alternatively, if you’re taking the Joja route, you can purchase the Joja Community Development Form for 40,000 Gold. However, if you do take this route, I question your morality. Unless you’re doing it for the achievemen??t, then I’ll let you off.

Eit?her way, once you’ve fixed the Bus, Pam will become the driver, and she will take you to the Calico Desert for 500 Gold.

What to do at the Desert Festival

At the Desert Festival, you can spend all day in the Calico Desert playing minigames and talking to villagers. It's an excellent way to increase your relationships, as you can still give gifts during each day, and you can also purchas??e exclusive items using the festival currency, Calico Eggs.

Earning Calico Eggs

Instead of Gold, everything during the Desert Festival costs Calico Eggs. These eggs are obtained through taking part in minigames, completing daily quests within Skull Caverns or even by answering a pop quiz with questions all about Stardew Valley itself.

Thereâ€??™s even a trash can next to the Calico Merchant’s store, which will reward a random number of Calico Eggs once per day if you rummage through it; just try not to be seen by any of the attending Villagers, except maybe Linus.

The Races

Between the hours of 10am and 11pm on all three days of the Festival, you can place bets on a race which ?feature?s racers such as the King Sting, Speed Rooster and Escar-go. If you pick the winner, you’ll receive 20 Calico Eggs.

You can also cheat this race by giving one Calico Egg to the Susp?icio??us Man, who will attempt to fix the race in your favor.

Skull Cavern

Gil and Marlon are attending the Desert Festival and offering one-day quests which reward Calico Eggs if completed. In the Skull Cavern, you can earn Calico Eggs for killing Monsters, by breaki??ng open Calico Egg mining nodes and by completing the task set ??in the daily quest.

You don’t need to regularly have access to Skull Cavern in order to access it during the Desert Festival, and every five floors, you’ll be granted an ‘Egg Levelâ€? as well as each time you activate a Calico Statue, which can app?ear randomly on any floor.

If you’re knocked out while adventuring in Skull Cavern, you’ll wake up in Harvey’s Medical Station next door. While you ?won’t lose any energy, items or Gold when this happens, you wil??l lose two Calico Eggs and be revived with only 10 health.

The Scholar

The Scholar is an NPC who offers a quiz minigame once per Desert Festival. There are four questions in this quiz, and it will test your general knowledge of Stardew Valley. If you answer all four questio????ns correctly, you’ll receive 20 Calico Eggs.

There??????????????????????????’s a range of questions that you could be asked and each is chosen at random each time you talk to the Schola?r.

Here’s the full list of questions and answers for the Scholar at the Desert Festival in Stardew Valley:

Fishing

Of course, no Festival would be complete without a Fishing minigame to try your luck at, even if it is in the Desert. Willy is in attendance at the?? Desert Festival with daily fishing quests that, if completed, reward you with Calico Eggs.

Shopping

Villager stores during the Desert Festival in Stardew Valley
Screenshot by Destructoid

There are numerous different vendors and merchants present during the Desert Festival, including Villagers who hav??e their own stores set up across the three d??ay period of the Festival.

One of the most exciting things that you can purchase during this event is the Bachelor and Bachelorettes weapons. These were?? items that were introduced during the 1.1 update back in 2016, but until now have been unobtainable by p?layers.

Important note: Remember to spend your Calico Eggs before the end of the Festival, as they do not get carried over to the next year and will disappear from your inventory once the Festival is over.

Free Cactus

Once per Desert Festival, you can get your hands on a random free Cactus by visiting the Cactus Salesman at the bott??om of the map. You don’t get to choose which Cactus you receive and each Cactus has a different colour, face, and design.

Calico Merchant

The Calico Merchant sells various items in exchange for Calico Eggs across all three days of the Desert Festival in Stardew Valley. The items on offer vary day to day.

Item Price (in Calico Eggs)
10 Mystery Boxes 20
Mummy Mask 120
Blue Bow 50
Dark Velvet Bow 75
Mega Bomb 15
3 Mixed Seeds
Magic Rock Candy 250
Lucky Lunch 10
5 Eggplant Parmesan 10
Sun Dunes (Painting) 30
Desert Table 25
Desert End Table 20
Desert Chair 20
Calico Statue 25
Desert Fireplace 20
Desert Flags 10
Sandy Rug 20
Desert Rug 25
Woodcutter’s Weekly  100

Villager Stores

Each Villager can have their own store where you can purchase items in exchange for Calico Eggs. Each year, only six Villagers will have stalls, and only two will be in attendance on one day of t??he Festival. That said, it might take you a few years to get all of the items that you’re after.

Most of these items are things that can be gained in other ways, but most of the focus here is on those weapons belonging to the Bachelors and Bachelorettes (except, for some reason, Emily and Shane), each of which costs?? 70 Calico Eggs.

These weapons were introduced at a time when ConcernedApe had the intention of allowing your chosen spouse to accompany you into the Mines, but that nev??er happened and so these weapons have never seen the light of day. Until now, that is.

Here are all of the weapons you can purchase at the Desert Festival, prov??ided the related villager has set up shop:

  • Abby’s Planchette
  • Alex’s Bat
  • Elliott’s Pencil
  • Haley’s Iron
  • Harvey’s Mallet
  • Leah’s Whittler
  • Maru’s Wrench
  • Penny’s Fryer
  • Sam’s Old Guitar
  • Seb’s Lost Mace

Emily’s Outfit Services

Each day of the Desert Festi?val, you can visit Emily in her tent in order to get your hands on a whole new outfit ??(including Hat, body piece and legs piece).. Your original outfit will be placed into your inventory.

Chef

You can visit Chef as many times as you like ??during the Desert ??Festival in order to create dishes by selecting options he gives you.

These dishes then provide buffs, depending on the options chosen. You can combine any choice one option with any choice two option,?? resulting in a final dish that combines the buffs from each choice. Every eventual dish will completely restore both Energy and Health.

Here's all of the dishes you ??can create with Chef dur?ing the Desert Festival:

Eric ‘ConcernedApeBarone has been pumping out the updates for Stardew Valley again and this time, as part of 1.6.4, we’ve got another new fishing based feature that will help if you’re hoping to catch a large numb?er of fish.

Fish Frenzies a?re signposted events which can happen in the following areas:

  • The Mountains
  • The Forest
  • The Beach
  • Pelican Town River

You’ll know when a Fish Frenzy is occurring because a pop-up will appear in the lower left corner of the screen, much like when you level up a skill or a train is passing through the valley.

What is a Fish Frenzy in Stardew Valley?

A Fish Frenzy in Stardew Valley

When you see the pop-up, head to the area described within it and find the bubbling spot in the w??ater. The spot will be filled with many fish, jumping out of the water. This is, for all intents ?and purposes, a Fish Frenzy.

Once you’ve found this spot, cast your line and you’ll be able to enjoy much shorter times between bites, allowing you to catch a large number of fish. Of course, the fish you catch will be limited to the type associated with the current Frenzy and you should make sure to take plenty of Bait and Bobbers.

How to maximise profit from a Fishing Frenzy

Fish are, at base level, usually not worth much. However, if you’re looking to sell your caught fish for profit, you can massively increase their value by using a Smoker.

When placed in a Smoker, fish retain their quality w??hile their value is doubled. Depending on the fish, you can make a lot of Gold this way.

Stardew Valley is supposed to be about farming but often ends up being about anything else. Killing monsters, romancing townsfolk, and, yes, standing by a pond for days upon end catching fish. The go-at-your-own-pace is part of its charms â€?you can approach Stardew Valley however you'd like.

However, the game does lock certain milestones behind dabbling in a little bit of everything, so even for those with the greenest of thumbs or the bloodiest of swords, there will be a time when tools must be put down and fishing rods picked up in their place. Instead of turnips or slimes, your new target is the common Carp, a fish that's not the hardest to come by, but you may need a little help, so here's where and how to catch a Carp in Stardew Valley.

Where to catch Carp in Stardew Valley and its Seasons

The Carp is among the many fish in Stardew Valley you'll encounter. Carp have both some seasonal and location-specific restrictions for catching it. Thank??fully, this fish has more than one window, more bountiful to come by for its many uses.

Carp Fishing Locations and Seasons

  • Mountain Lake - Spring, Summer, Fall
  • Wilderness Farm - Spring, Summer, Fall
  • Secret Woods - All Seasons
  • Sewers - All Seasons
  • Mutant Bug Lair - All Seasons

The?? Mountain Lake is where most players will go to catch Carp, as it is accessible from the start of the g?ame, and the fish is fairly common there.

For those a little later in the game, the Secret Woods has the highest spawn rate of Carp in the game, as well as having them spawn during every season. To reach the Secret Woods, players will need to have at least upgraded to a Steel Axe. In the Northwest corner of the Cindersap Forest is a log that c?an be removed with a Steel Axe, granting access to the Secret Woods.

What quests require Carp, and how many?

Several Help Wanted board quests in the village req??uire Carp for completion, along with a Community Center ??Bundle.

  • Lake Fish Bundle Community Center Bundle

    • 1 Carp required

  • Townsfolk Help Wanted Quest

    • 1 Carp requested during Spring, Summer, or Fall

  • Fishing "Help Wanted" Quest

    • 1-5 Carp requested during Spring, Summer, or Fall

  • Fish Pond Upgrade Quest

    • 2 Carp required

In Stardew Valley, the tiger trout is a, er, trout. That is to say, it’s a fish. Gills, fins, it has it all. It’s supposedly a rare hybrid trout, and according to the game, it can’t bear offsp??ring. It can, however, be caught, and ?here’s how.

Tiger trout are river fish, which means you need to catch them in flowing water, like the stream that flows through Pelican Town and ?Cindersap Fo??rest. It can also be caught within the Meadowlands, Forest, Riverlands, and Hill-Top farms.

However, the only seasons you can catch tiger trout are Fall and Winter. As always, if you need t?o catch one out of season, you can try your luck by?? using Magic Bait.

Aside from catching them, you can very rarely find them in Krobusshop in the s??ewers for 200G on Wednesdays, or at the traveling cart for 450-1000G.

Once caught, a tiger fish can be used to make sashimi. You can also use them as an ingredient for Maki Rolls or Quality Fertili??zer. It is also one of the gifts th?at Willy likes.

Duck feathers have multiple uses in Stardew Valley, from being a great gift for certain villagers to a solid money-making option. However, while it may sound like they're easy to find, you'll need to put some time and effort into finding one. Here's how to get duck feathers in Stardew Valley.

Where to get Duck Feather in Stardew Valley

The main way to get duck feathers is through random chance from ducks. By building a big coop and purchasing ducks from Marnie's Ranch for 1,200 gold, you'll get eggs and feathers from these little creatures over time. However, feathers are rarer than eggs and require you to raise your friendships with the duck?s first before getting one.

Alternatively, you can marry Emily for a duck feather. Although she won't give you one imme??diately, you can get various tailor-related items, including duck feathers. You can also get cloth and wool, whi??ch are useful for selling or making clothes.

What are Duck Feathers used for?

In Stardew Valley, duck feathers have three main uses:

  1. Gifting to Elliott and Leo.
  2. Using in the Bulletin Board's Dye Bundle.
  3. Selling for between 250-600 gold.

How you use duck feathers depends entirely on whether you plan to make money, complete the community center, or befriend some villagers. If you want to romance Elliott or befriend Leo, you can gift them a duck feather as a loved gift. Likewise, you need one for the community&?nbsp;center, so having one will? help you there.

Lastly, you can sell duck feathers for anywhere between 250 to 600 gold. A regular feather without the Rancher profession perk can fetch you 250 coins for your troubles while loving your ducks to the point of maxing out their hearts can give you Iridium-quality feath??ers worth 500 gold with no trait and 600 with Rancher. While not much individually, collecting a bunch can make you plenty of money over time.

Pufferfish is a delicacy in some places. You can get in on the “eat dangerously, die satisfiedmindset in Stardew Valley if you use? the right bait and fish in the right spot.

Pufferfish are ocean fish, and they can only be caught on the mainland during the Summer. However, for every other season, they can be caught on Ginger Island. This means that you’ll be fishing from the beach on the main??land, or Ginger Island’s Pirate Cove, or South, Southeast, and Western shores.

If you’re in need of a Pufferfish and it isn’t Summer, you can also use Magic Bait which let’s you catch any fish regardl??ess?? of the season.

The Pufferfish can be a bit tricky to catch as they ten?d to move up and down quickly as if they’re bouncing in the water. You might want to use a Trap Bobber for Pufferfish to make it less likely that they’ll escape while you’re trying to reel them in.

You can als??o sometimes find them in garbage cans during the Summer, for some reason. And, like many things, it is sometimes for sale at the Traveling Cart for 600 to 1000 G.

Once you have a Pufferfish, you can turn it into sashimi. It can also be used as an ingredient in Quality Fertilizer and Maki Rolls. It also can be used as part of the Specialty Fish Bundle in the c?om??munity center fish tank.

Everyone likes pretty rocks, and in Stardew Valley, none is prettier t?han the Prismatic Shard. But beyond just looking really nice on a shelf and feeling good in yo?ur pocket, the Prismatic Shard has a number of important uses.

First, we’re going to tackle?? how to find one, then we’ll discuss what to do with it.

Places to get a Prismatic Shard in Stardew Valley

A Prismatic Shard is a rare find, but it’s not one that’s unique. Like many things in Stardew Valley, it’s usually a matter o??f chance to find one, but here are some places:

  • You’re guaranteed to find one when you first reach the top of the Volcano on Ginger Island.
  • There’s a chance to get one from Iridium deposits in the Volcano, Quarry, and Skull Cavern.
  • They often appear in Mystic Stones found in the Mine (below floor 100), Quarry, and Skull Cavern.
  • They sometimes appear in the treasure rooms that appear in Skull Cavern.
  • Prismatic Shards can be found in meteors that occasionally crush your crops and paths.
  • Mystery boxes and golden mystery boxes sometimes contain Prismatic Shards.
  • There’s a very small chance you will get one from opening an Omni Geode.
  • There’s also a very small chance you can find one in a fishing chest (after fishing level 6).
  • Wilderness and Iridium Golems occasionally drop Prismatic Shards.
  • The Statue of Perfection will produce one Prismatic Shard each day.
  • Shadow Brutes and Shaman, serpents, and mummies all rarely drop one.

Chances are, you’ll just come across Prismatic Shard as you play late into Stardew Valley. Aside from the Statue of Perfection and the volcano, there aren’t really any? guaranteed ways to find them, so it’s better to just relax and wait for them to come to you.

What to do with Prismatic Shards in Stardew Valley

You might alrea??dy have something in mind for what to do wi?th a Prismatic Shard. But if not, here is everything you can use them for.

  • In multiplayer, you can craft one into a Wedding ring to get hitched with another player.
  • You can donate one to the Museum.
  • They can be used to enchant tools in the Forge (in the Volcano).
  • Used with a Sewing Machine, you can craft prismatic clothing.
  • If you feed one to the Dark Shrine of Selfishness, your children will turn into doves(!?).
  • It’s one of the items that you can use for the Missing Bundle, which unlocks the Movie Theater.
  • If you hold one and walk between the three pillars in Calico Desert, you’ll get the Galaxy Sword.
  • The Desert Trader will give you a Magic Rock Candy if you hand over three Prismatic Shards.
  • It can simply be gifted to an NPC. Everyone loves them except Haley who finds them gross for some reason.

So whether you’re grossing someone out or wishing your children away, there’s plenty of reason? to keep hold of every Prismatic Shard you? find in your farming adventures.

Concerned Ape is pumping out the PC patches for Stardew Valley and while we should be used to expansive updates by this point, it never fails to delight when new content heads to the farm. Patch 1.6.4 is no different, with lots of additions, tweaks, and even lots of improvements specifically for the modding community.

Sadly, we’re still not sure when these updates will arrive for players on console or mobile, but it shouldn’t be too long before all Stardew Valley players can enjoy the long list of new features added post 1.6. Eith?er way, perhaps you just look at this as a list of things to dive? into now, or something you'll at least jump into later when it arrives on other platforms.

Stardew adds cutscenes and rewards to the raccoon household

Have you ever wanted to see Raccoon children performing a musical number while their parents partake in a little bit of synchronise?d dancing? Well, now’s your chance. The newly added cutscene, which plays once you’ve completed all of Mr. Raccoon’s requests, is utterly adorable. Thankfully, it plays even if you’ve completed the quests before this patch, and all you need to do to see it is head down to Cindersap Forest.

Mine Layouts, Fish Frenzies, and more in Patch 1.6.4

  • 20 new ‘alternateâ€?mine layouts, which have a chance to appear during visits after you’ve reached the bottom of the mines
  • 20 new volcano mine layouts, which can appear after you’ve unlocked the shortcut between the caldera and the volcano entrance
  • Fish frenzies
  • Four new fairy styles
  • Eight additional non-fish items can now be added to fish tanks
  • Mrs. Raccoon's shop now includes new items to be purchased:

    • Golden Mystery Box in exchange for three regular Mystery Boxes
    • Magic Rock Candy in exchange for 20 Golden Mystery Boxes

  • Vinegar can now be poured onto trees to prevent them from ever-growing moss
  • Shaving enhancement now causes tree-specific drops

    • Ferns drop Fiddlehead Fern
    • Mushrooms drop Red Mushrooms
    • Mahogany drops Hardwood

Balance changes headed to Stardew Valley

  • Loading a game through Steam will now reward achievements that have been earned while playing offline
  • Mini-shipping bin as expensive Qi Gem shop purchase
  • Life Elixir now only restores health, while Energy Tonic only restores energy
  • Wild seed spots are rarer, but will produce more seeds when dug
  • Iridium is now twice as likely to be dropped by Iridium Golems
  • Monsters in volcano entry level are randomized daily
  • Treasure totems can no longer be used indoors
  • Descending a level in the Mines now makes you invulnerable for one second
  • Farming experience now contributes to mastery experience at 50%
  • Sardines have been removed from the Summer quest pool, and Red Snappers have been removed from the Winter quest pool
  • Golden Mystery Boxes can now possibly drop an Auto Petter
  • Slightly reduced chance to find Mystery Boxes

Quality of life tweaks and gameplay fixes

  • After dropping an item, there will now be a 1.2 second delay before it’s picked up by the player who dropped it
  • Napalm Ring are now non-destructive while on the farm, but will damage monsters
  • Ctrl + Right Click will now drop the selected item on the toolbar
  • Special notifications such as first catch will no longer cancel actions such as eating or warping
  • Prize Ticket Machine will now use up Prize Ticket when an item is in your inventory, rather than when you press the button
  • Monster Compendium will now actually double loot dropped from monsters
  • Weapons forged before 1.6 no longer have reduced stats
  • End tables can now be rotated

Improvements for the Stardew modding community

There are several tweaks to modding in Stardew Valley in 1.6.4, including improved debug commands. The full patch notes, including all of the modding updates, can be found on the Stardew Valley changelog, but here are the fixes:

  • Fixed some wallpapers and flooring not appearing in mod item lists
  • Fixed pre-1.6 farm maps having broken warps to the bus stop
  • Fixed errors and crashes due to mods adding items without a name
  • Fixed softlock when a warp leads to an invalid location
  • Fixed crash when playing events that use the ‘replaceWithClonesâ€?command
  • Fixed crash if an NPC has invalid temporary dialogue
  • Fixed world map showing a glitched texture for custom farm types which don’t override it
  • Fixed another case of NPC duplication involving the movie theater
  • Fixed crash when loading a save if a farm Junimo wasn’t properly removed before saving
  • Fixed crash if the lost and found contains null items.
  • Fixed disconnect for Steam players when using mods that send messages before a farmhand has been approved.
  • Fixed crash on save if shipping bin has empty slots.
  • Fixed riding the bus to the desert instantly warping you back if mods added warps on the desert road.

Befriending villagers in Stardew Valley primarily involves gifting them their favorite items every day until they love you. While you can? also talk to them or participate in annual events to raise friendships, gifts are the way to go. Here's a complete list of Sam's loved and liked gifts.

Universal loved and liked gifts in Stardew Valley

Sam loves every universally loved item in Stardew Valley and most universally liked gifts. Universally loved and liked gifts are items you can give to any village to raise t??heir friendship, even if it isn't among their regular gift options.? There are a few exceptions, including some for Sam, but they're generally pretty reliable for raising a villager's friendship without struggling to find a specific resource.

Below is every universally loved gift in Stardew Valley:

  • Stardrop Tea
  • Prismatic Shard
  • Rabbit's Foot
  • Golden Pumpkin
  • Pearl
  • Magic Rock Candy

The only exceptions to these loved gifts are Haley and Penny. Haley hates Prismatic Shards, while Penny hates Rabbit's Fo??ot. These exceptions don't apply to Sam, so you're free to give him any of thes??e six gifts if you're looking to raise your friendship with him. Stardrop Tea, in particular, is a great option for raising friendship by an entire level.

Similarly, below is every universally liked gift in Stardew Valley, excluding entries Sam dislikes.

  • All Artisan Goods except for Oil and Void Mayonnaise
  • All Cooking items except for Fried Egg, Bread, Strange Bun, and Seafoam Pudding
  • All Flowers except for Poppy
  • All Minerals except Quartz
  • All Fruit Tree Fruits except Banana and Mango
  • All Gems except Prismatic Shard, which is universally loved
  • Life Elixir
  • Maple Syrup
  • Pina Colada
  • Rainbow Shell
  • Treasure Chest

While v?egetables are typically a universally liked gift for all villagers, Sam is an exception. He dislikes all vegetables except hops a?nd wheat, which he's neutral toward. Unlike other villagers, he also hates mayonnaise and pickles, making him averse to a few artisan goods.

What gifts does Sam like in Stardew Valley?

Sa?m is one of the easiest villagers to raise friendship levels with, as several of his loved gifts are available?? early in the game. His main liked gift is also relatively cheap and easy to find, allowing you to increase your friendship without any issues. Just make sure to avoid forageables, minerals, and ores, as he dislikes most of these.

Sam's loved gifts in Stardew Valley

Alongside every universally loved gift, Sam also l?oves the following items:

Gift How to get
Cactus Fruit Foraging in Calico Desert
Maple Bar Cooking:
Maple Syrup, Sugar, Wheat Flour
Pizza Stardrop Saloon
Cooking:
Cheese, Tomato, Wheat Flour
Tigerseye Opening Magma and Omni geodes

Sam's liked gifts in Stardew Valley

Aside from vegetables and some artisan goods, Sam likes most universally liked gifts. However, outside of this, he only has one other item he's interested in: Joja Cola. You can easily find Joja Cola as a trash item from fishing and from the vending ma?chine in the Stardrop S??aloon for 75 gold.

During the first Fall you experience in Stardew Valley, you’ll receive a letter from Linus, t??he lovable tent-dwelling villager who just wants to be accepted for who he is. Thankfully, this quest is actually very easy to complete.

Between day 8 and 11 of Fall every year, Blackberry season comes to Stardew Valley, meaning you can forage a frankly huge number of Blackberries from the bushes in Pelican Town and the surrounding area. Linus is a fan of Blackberries, so it stands to reason that he would make use of this free source of food. Sadly, he’s lost his bask??et and he needs your help to find it.

In order to find Linusbasket, you’ll need to head to one very specific l??ocation. If you’re currently going through your first playthrough, you’ll likely not know that you can actually access this area of the map.&?nbsp;

Once you’ve received a letter from Linus on the first day of Blackberry Season, so that’s Fall 8, you’ll need to head out in search of? his basket. It doesn’t matter what friendship level you’re at with Linus, thi?s letter will arrive regardless.

Linusâ€?basket can be found by heading to the Bus Stop, onto the road and then heading left as though you’re walking off-screen. When the small new area loads, you’ll find the basket on the top grassy area of the road, right next to the entrance to the ??tunnel.

Once you’ve picked it up, yo?u’ll need to find Linus.

LinusFall schedule in Stardew Valley

Where linus will be dep?ends on the time of day and the weather. As this quest is only available in F??all, I won’t go into his year round schedule, but here’s where to find Linus:

On a rainy day:

Time of day Where to find Linus
6 a.m. - 9 a.m. Inside his tent in the Mountains
9:30 a.m. - 10:10 a.m. Leaves his tent, stands behind the bush to the west of it
10:10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Inside his tent in the Mountains
3 p.m. - 7 p.m.  Leaves his tent, stands under the tree to the west of it
7 p.m. - 10 p.m. Inside his tent in the Mountains
11:30 p.m.  Goes to sleep

On a regular day:

Time of day Where to find Linus
6 a.m. - 7 a.m. Inside his tent in the Mountains
7 a.m. - 7:40 a.m. Leaves his tent, stands behind the bush to the west of it
7:40 a.m. - 9 a.m. Stands to the west of the campfire in front of his tent
9 a.m. - 2 p.m.  Visits the Spa area, standing to the east side of the building
2 p.m. - 6 p.m. Walks to the western shore of the Mountain Lake
6 p.m. Returns to his tent for the night

Oh Sebastian. What a dreamboat. In Stardew Valley, he’s sort? of the motorhead of the game, handy with a wrench and owner of a motorcycle the quickest way to a woman’s heart. Maybe. Not really. Anyway, if you want to get in good with him, yo?u’re going to need to give him material objects.

Sebastian has some pretty particular tastes. While you might get lucky by handing him unborn critters, you can also play it safe and stick to the universally liked gifts. The universal gifts are (mostly) safe advice for other characters, too, including villagers like Marnie, Penny, or Abigail.

Also, note that Sebastian's birthday is on Winter's 10th day. The perfect time t?o show him you care.

Universal gifts for Stardew Valley villagers

These are the gifts that most villagers will like. Some of the villagers have particular things that they don’t like amongst the “universalâ€?gifts. For example, Sebastian does not like Complete Breakfast, Farmer’s Lunch, Green Tea, ??Omelet, and Coffee. Apparently, heâ€??™s not a morning person. Also, he does not like any flowers because I guess he’s too manly.

Universally loved gifts:

  • Stardrop Tea
  • Golden Pumpkin
  • Magic Rock Candy
  • Pearl
  • Prismatic Shard

Universally liked gifts:

  • All artisan goods (except for Oil and Void Mayonnaise)
  • All cooking (except Fried Egg, Bread, Strange Bun, and Seafoam Pudding)
  • All foraged minerals (except Quartz, but some villagers still like it)
  • All fruit tree fruits (except Banana and Mango)
  • All gems
  • All Vegetables (except Hops, Tea Leaves, Wheat, and Unmilled Rice)
  • Life Elixir
  • Maple Syrup
  • Pina Colada
  • Rainbow Shell
  • Treasure Chest

That’s a lot of stuff to work off of that Sebby li?kes, just remember that he does?n’t like flowers and breakfast food, strangely.

In terms of ?what Sebastian actually likes, this is where we get a bit eclectic. It’s extremely specific, so I’l??l lay it out as best I can.

In addition to the listed univers?ally lo?ved gifts, Sebastian is into some pretty unique things.

Abigail is pretty easy to please in terms of gifts in Stardew Valley, and a good rule of thumb is that if it’s purple, she’ll probably love it. In the past, if you gave her Quartz, she would eat it. Thankfully, her teeth are no longer in danger as this no longer seems to be the case, but it still lives on as a meme in the community.

Anyway, moving past her penchant for ro??cking-eating, Abigail is a fan favorite. If you want to get close to her, or even marry her and move her into your farmhouse, you’ll need to know what she likes.

Universal Loved and Liked Gifts in Stardew Valley

Some Stardew Valley gifts are beloved by everyone in the village, excluding a few pickier folks like Penny or Haley. While universally loved may be a little harder to come by, universally liked is pretty easy, and Abigail accepts most things. If you need more places to offload the universal goodies to, look to others like Sebastian, Penny, or Marnie.

  • Stardrop Tea

    • Additional benefit of being able to give another, secondary gift

  • Golden Pumpkin

Abigail loves all of the universally loved gifts, so if you’ve got a Rabbit’s Foot lying around or you’ve just received the Golden P??umpkin as part of the ??Spirit’s Eve festival, she’s going to be happy to receive them. If you want to make things more personal, Abigail loves getting the following:

Abigail likes most of the ?universally liked gifts, but she isn’t a fan of eating her vegetables, so giving her any veggies won't do much for your relationship. I guess she prefers harder things to munch on. She also likes:

Penny is a fan favorite in Stardew Valley, and she has a long list of gifts that will make her happy. She’s also the only villager in Stardew Valley who loves Popp??ies â€? great since they’re usually a universally hated gift, so at least they’re useful for something.

If you want to increase your friendship with Penny, or perhaps become more than friends, you’ll need to improve your relationship with her through a shower of thoughtful reminders. There’s no better way to do this than to give her gifts, especially on her birthday

There are some gifts that, when given to a villager, are pretty much guaranteed to raise friendship points. Note that there's only one 'loved' gift Penny does not like, the Rabbit's Foot.
