True End

• Start

  • At this point, Muu should be charging you rent for how often Stardust is caught napping in the bookshop.
  • With Rhok'zan's book and a slew of stunning revelations running through your head, go to your ancestral home.
  • Summon Rhok'zan with the 'Summon the All-Mother' ritual.

• Perform the 'Kiss of Immortality' ritual

  • This is the hardest part of Sucker for Love: Date to Die For. Once you perform the 'Kiss of Immortality' ritual, you'll have to survive for seven minutes as Buck relentlessly hunts you.
  • While Buck is hunting you, there will be 11 rituals to keep an eye out for, lest you die. While it is technically okay to die in this section, if you manage to avoid it, you'll unlock the hidden achievement "The G.O.A.T."
  • I've detailed the rituals below with the signs to look out for and how to avoid death. Keep this page handy is infinitely easier than pulling up Rhok'zan's book and flipping through pages in a panic.
  • There will never be more than a single affliction active at a time. Keep moving and deal with the current threat.

  • Everything appears as it should be in this dream. Make your way to the front door and leave behind this house of horror.

Truth End

• Fulfill Your Promise

  • After speaking with Nanni, Billie, and Kidd at the entrance, turn around and go to the Heart of the Woods.
  • Aunty Nyan Nyan will be waiting for you with the reagents you need to perform the 'Uproot: Heartburn' ritual.
  • Take the ingredients and perform your final chant.

Survival

• Cloud of Fleshflies

  • Sign: You'll hear loud buzzing and see flies start to appear. This means that Buck is nearby.
  • Cure: Flee to a part of the home without flies or buzzing. The longer you sit still, the closer Buck will get. Keep moving until the flies and buzzing aren't present as they'll hunt Stardust.

• Tempestuous Murder

  • Sign: Spotting what appears to be a murder of crows outside.
  • Cure: Move toward an interior room without windows and wait until you hear wings flapping. Only then will it be safe to come out. The crawlspace is a great hiding spot.

• Hush of the Deep Woods

  • Sign: Everything has gone eerily quiet.
  • Cure: Make a noise once every (15) seconds for (1) minute. The television in the TV room will do the trick.

• Summon Ultrapredator

  • Sign: You'll hear the sounds of a beast on the hunt.
  • Cure: Move to a room with a single entrance and face the door. This will prevent the ultrapredator from attacking. Once your heart rate slows, it is safe to move on.

• Stygian Canopy

  • Sign: The edges of the screen will go dark and you'll see tree branches encroaching.
  • Cure: Find lit candles and stare at them until you hear the sound of birds chirping. The only rooms with candles are your bedroom and the crawlspace.

• Call of the Seventh Knock

  • Sign: You hear knocking.
  • Cure: Move towards the sound of the knocking and count each one. If you count six knocks before finding the door, stay still. If you find the door beforehand, quickly open it as the seventh knock begins.

• Death of Death

  • Sign: Corpses rise from the Rotblooms.
  • Cure: Go to the bathroom balcony and wait for them to starve. Be mindful of potential stragglers.

• Spiteful Dwelling

  • Sign: The walls and floors begin creaking.
  • Cure: Make your way outside while avoiding moving doors and staircases.

• Fumigating Miasma

  • Sign: A poisonous mist will begin filling the rooms of the first floor.
  • Cure: Get to either your bedroom window or the bathroom balcony on the second floor as quickly as possible.

• Megafauna Homonid

  • Sign: This off-brand Slenderman creeps around the house.
  • Cure: Don't look at it and get out of the room it is occupying.

• Summon Firstbornes

  • Sign: You hear babies or see their hideous form through a door.
  • Cure: Go to the Heart of the Woods and stay put until the candles go out. This is my favorite affliction to get as it eats up a minute or more easily.

How to get each ending in Sucker for Love: Date to Die For, Chapter 999 (The Lonely Devil Arrives!)

True End

Unlike Chapters 1 and 2, getting True End for Chapter 999 is the one you're likely ?to stumble upon if you're playing with a completionist mindset. Spread throughout the home are four keepsakes, in addition to the one you found outside the bookstore. You must give each keepsake to the correct cultist before exiting the home to unlock True End.

• Start

  • By this point, you should be well-acquainted with waking up in the bookshop. This time, things are a bit different, as it's primarily girls disappearing around the prefecture.
  • Muu will hand you a bag of books and you're on your way.
  • You'll find a photo in a broken frame in Jiji Alley. This is the first of the keepsakes.
  • Kidd and his entourage make their appearance and chase Stardust to her ancestral home.

• Perform the 'Summon the All-Mother' Ritual

  • You'll already have Rhok'zan's book, thanks to Muu. Ignore the field of flowers in place of the floor, the creepy girl with the knife outside the window, and the lack of a bedroom door as you head up to your room on the second floor.

• Perform the 'Chrysalis of Rebirth' ritual

  • Go to your brother's room and face the door while you chant. There's a lengthy timer on this ritual, but don't worry; you're safe here.

• Perform the 'Black Eye' ritual

  • Take the knife from the fresh corpse in your bedroom and cut off some meat to begin the ritual.

• Perform the 'Organ Donor' ritual

  • Things are about to get serious as Kidd's followers are roaming the house and the loud music is drowning out their movement.
  • Ignore your new stalker and go downstairs. Turn left at the bottom of the stairs and proceed to the kitchen. You'll hear her breathing behind you, but so long as you don't turn around, you'll be fine.
  • Pick up the second keepsake, the cell phone, in the kitchen and turn around.
  • With her out of the way, chant your ritual, and interact with your monochrome self.

• Find the remaining keepsakes

  • You'll be instructed to return to Rhok'zan, but you should take the time to deal with Kidd's followers now.
  • Proceed to the TV room, but be careful around the engawa. If you see the girl with the knife outside, back away and try another approach.
  • As you approach the TV room, you'll meet the old lady. Her keepsake is the photo in the broken frame.
  • Take the third keepsake, the severed head, from the TV room. While it's tempting, do not turn off the TV.
  • Go to the bathroom balcony on the second floor to find the fourth keepsake, the headphones.
  • Pace around the engawa to get the knife girl to appear. The severed head is her former partner's.
  • Go into the crawlspace to meet the rocker. The headphones belong to her.
  • Proceed to the Heart of the Woods to find the fifth keepsake, the wallet.
  • Go to the entrance to find Kidd's final follower and return the lost wallet.

• Return to Rhok'zan

  • With all of Kidd's followers dealt with, you can explore the house in peace. Since there isn't anything else to do, go back to your room and speak with Rhok'zan.

• Perform the 'Uproot: Heartburn' ritual

  • You know how this one works by now. Go to the crawlspace and perform the ritual.

• Escape!

  • With the Heart of the Woods on fire, it's time to make your escape. Since Kidd no longer has any followers, the spell over him is broken and you'll be free to leave.

Good End

Good End is unlocked by not giving all of the cultists their keepsakes. The ea??siest way to trigger this is to not pick up the wallet in the crawl space. This leaves Kidd with a follower and changes the ending.

• Perform the ‘Uproot: Heartburnâ€?ritual

  • Go to the crawl space and ignore the wallet by the Hearts of the Wood.
  • Perform the ritual and make your way out of the house.
  • Kidd will confront you at the entrance.

Bad End

This isn't listed in the checkpoints as an actual ending, despite the screen saying "Bad End." Either wa?y, this is how y??ou get it.

Taking a page from Mr. X in Resident Evil 2, Billie the c??ultist roams the ancestral home of protagonist Stardust. This makes getting each ending tricky, but fret not, as I've got you covered. Here's each path and how to get its ending.

How to get every ending in Sucker for Love: Date to Die For, Chapter 2 (House of Whacks!)

Good End

• Start

  • Chapter 2 picks up where Chapter 1 left off. Stardust will be awoken in the bookstore by the Odd Bookseller. She'll hand you Rhok'zan's book and reveal some disturbing information before sending you on your way.

• Arrived at House

  • On the way to your ancestral home, things are different. Namely, Nanni isn't around any longer.
  • Go to your room on the second floor and perform the 'Summon the All-Mother' ritual.

    • Oh, put a pin in that, as the cultists captured Stardust. Thankfully, she rolls a Nat 20 on Intimidation, and the Large Cultist tells the others to leave.
      For the duration of Chapter 2, you must avoid being captured by the roaming Large Cultist.

  • With arrangements made, proceed with the aforementioned ritual.

• Perform the 'Epicurean Feast' ritual

  • Collect the green meat and blood-filled bowl from the dining room.
  • Collect the strawberry milk from the kitchen.
  • Once you've collected the ingredients, Billie will begin her hunt. There are a couple of tricks to avoiding her.

    • Listen for the banging of her metal bat. Thanks to some excellent sound design, you'll be able to gauge her proximity. Alternatively, pay attention to the subtitles which give the same approximation.
    • Like with the cultists in Chapter 1, slowly open the doors to check for Billie. Should you spot her, back away and try another door.
    • Once you hear or see the "Bloodthirsty Growl" subtitle, Billie is on top of you. Quickly move to another room lest she cave Stardust's skull in.

  • Avoid Billie and head back to your room on the second floor.

• Met Aunty Nyan Nyan

  • Once you reach the second floor, you'll meet the first recurring character from Sucker for Love: First Date, Nyanlathotep.
  • She points out the tally marks on the baseboard representing each of your deaths. Feel free to spray her with the mister if you're inclined.

• Regroup with Rhok'zan

  • Speak with Rhok'zan in your room and uncover the next ritual.

• Perform the 'Wild Evolution' ritual

  • To perform the 'Wild Evolution' ritual, you'll need to shotgun some blood from the beating Heart of the Woods.
  • Head to the crawlspace, avoiding Billie, and drink from the red heart. It should be the one on the left.
  • Head back to your room and recite the incantation.

• Perform the 'Beguiling Melody' ritual

  • Go to the TV room on the first floor.
  • This next part is tricky as the noise from the TV will attract Billie and you must chant three times.

    • If you're quick and have a steady hand, it is possible to rapid-fire the chants and beat feet back to your room.
    • The safer alternative is to perform a chant or two and then leave the room. Circle around Billie as she roams and go back to the TV and finish chanting.

• Perform the 'Labyrinthine Roots' ritual

  • Go to the balcony of the restroom on the second floor.
  • Face away from the woods and chant.
  • Backtrack through the bathroom; you'll end up in the TV room.
  • Take the door into the next room. There won't be a door immediately present. Spin around a few times; one will appear.
  • After going through that door, you'll be in a darkened hallway. Keep moving forward until you see Billie. Turn around when you spot her and move in the opposite direction. This pattern will repeat a few times until you spot a window to your room.
  • Jump into your room and chant.

• Perform the 'Uproot: Heartburn' ritual

  • Go to the Heart of the Woods in the crawl space and chant.
  • With the woods on fire, it's time to make your escape.

True End

It's really easy to miss True End for? Chapter 2. This path plays exactly the same up to the ?point where you're ready to perform the 'Uprooted: Heartburn' ritual.

• Best Billie

  • Leave your room and inspect the tally marks Aunty Nyan Nyan showed you earlier. This formulates a plan for winning over Billie.
  • Wait in that spot until Billie comes upstairs.
  • After explaining things, Billie will agree to Stardust's terms.

• Perform the 'Uproot: Heartburn' ritual

  • Go to the Heart of the Woods in the crawl space and chant.
  • With the woods on fire, it's time to make your escape.
  • Once you're back upstairs, Billie will be shot and you're on your own. Head to the front door.
  • Once you reach the front door, Buck will make another appearance before the stinger for Chapter 999 plays.

Sucker for Love: Date to Die For is fantastic for a lot of reasons, but one of the best i??s the multiple endings. Chapter 1 has three which build upon one another?; obtaining each is required to unlock additional chapters and endings. Despite being largely linear, there are several points where a different path can be taken. Here's how to take the guesswork out of the equation.

How to get each ending in Chapter 1 of Sucker for Love: Date to Die For

Bad End

• Start

  • Either start a new game or load a save from the very beginning.

• Arrived at House

  • After running into Nanni on the road, Stardust runs to her childhood home and shuts the door.

• Met Rhok'zan

  • Head upstairs to your former room and perform the 'Summon the All-Mother' ritual to meet the Black Goat of the Woods.

• Spawned Partner

  • Perform the 'Spawn Partner' ritual to permanently keep Rhok'zan in your room. This doesn't do anything from a gameplay perspective as you can't interact with her.

• Ate Feast

  • You'll need to gather ingredients for the 'Epicurean Feast' ritual and bring it all upstairs to perform it.

    • Take the curious green meat from the dining room.
    • Take the strawberry milk from the fridge in the kitchen.
    • Take the blood-filled bowl from the dining room.

• Brought Nanni Upstairs

  • Grab your bass guitar and go downstairs to the kitchen. You'll be attacked when you try to leave. Swing your bass like FLCL's Haruhara Haruko into the cultist's face to subdue them.

• Healed Self

  • After bringing Nanni upstairs and trying to figure out a plan of attack with Rhok'zan, it's time to heal yourself. Don't worry about having to perform this ritual on the regular as it's only used during specific parts.
  • The mirror that you must face is to the right of the tree, on the wall between it and Nanni. It took me a solid 10 minutes of spinning around and trying to perform this ritual to figure out where it was.

• Open the Door

  • Before you can perform the next ritual, Buck will interrupt and offer a choice. This is where you'll net the first ending. Open the door to obtain Bad End.

Good End

The Good End is a res??ulting br?anch from not opening the door for Buck.

• Perform the 'Rotbloom' ritual

  • To perform the 'Rotbloom' ritual, there are several steps that must be performed in the following order:

    • Go to the bathroom and take a pod from the plant growing in the bathtub.
    • Go to the dining room and eat some of the glowing green meat.
    • Eat the flower in your brother's bedroom at the end of the hall on the second floor. Don't worry about the cultists in there as they're too distracted by the posters to notice your presence.

  • While gathering the ingredients, the cultists will have infiltrated the house. Open doors slowly to spot them and prevent being grabbed. If you see one, close the door and try another. Thanks to the layout of the home, there are plenty of options for circling around occupied rooms.
  • On your way to the dining room/kitchen, there will be a pantry with a cardboard box. Climb inside for a humorous homage and the 'Iron Cog' achievement.

• Perform the 'Summon Firstbornes' ritual

  • Chant the first phrase and leave your bedroom.
  • Go to the Heart of the Woods in the crawlspace and wait for the candles to go out. Don't worry about the sounds as nothing can touch you here.
  • Return to your room and grab the bag of gore.
  • Chant the book's next phrase three times.

• Perform the 'Uproot: Heartburn' ritual

  • Go to the bathroom on the second floor and obtain the hairspray.
  • Go to the Heart of the Woods and chant the appropriate phrase.

True End

Much like Good End, True End is a bran?ching path from ?not opening the door for Buck.

• Perform the 'Rejuvenate Virility' ritual

  • To get on the path to True End, we need to perform the 'Rejuvenate Virility' ritual once more. The difference is we're using it to heal Nanni.

• Perform the 'Rotbloom' ritual

  • Follow the steps above to complete this ritual.

• Perform the 'Summon Firstbornes' ritual

  • Follow the steps above to complete this ritual.

• Rejoin Nanni

  • After completing the 'Summon Firstbornes' ritual, you'll hear the sound of footsteps approaching. Do not swing your bass guitar as it's only Nanni, returning to help.

• Perform the 'Uproot: Heartburn' ritual

  • This will be the same as before, but now Nanni has saved you the trouble of grabbing the hairspray.

• Escape!

  • Thanks to Nanni's disguise, you can safely escape the house as it burns down.

Those willing to gaze through the eyes of another may catch a glimpse of a love that dances in the mist separating nightmares and waking terror. Such is the tale of Stardust and Rhok'zan in the sequel to 2022's Sucker for Love: First Date, Sucker for Love: Date to Die For.

Rather than actively seeking out otherworldly entities to smooch as Darling did, Stardust finds herself an unwilling participant in a love triangle. Drawn back to her ancestral home, she's in search of her family who has disappeared along with many of the town's residents. Making her way to her former bedroom, she unwittingly summons a timeless entity, Rhok'zan, the Black Goat of the Woods. Together, the unlikely duo must e??scape the clutches of Rhok'zan's cult.

The story is divided into four cyclical chapters, which, without spoiling, ??is a playful and endlessly fascinating twist on our understanding of time and reality. This allows developer Akabaka to introduce new characters, concepts, and mechanics into the same setting without them feeling out of place. Each chapter has multiple paths and endings, with each working together to advance the overall plot. Even death is an integral piece of the larger story. Oh, I suppose I should have mentioned that you'll be dying a lot.

While I adore what is done here in terms of concept, the execution is a little flawed. The first two chapters are back-to-back, whereas the third and fourth chapters are massive jumps forward. This leads to some interactions that, without seeing that critical character development, feel out of place or forced. Logically it makes sense, but until y?ou fully understand what is happening, these moments are confusing.

Sucker for Love: Date to Die For is a tremendous improvement over its predecessor in terms of gameplay. Rather than be confined to an apartment with buttons to pan left and right, players explore an?? entire home complete with multiple floors. Moving the mouse to either side of the screen pans the camera and WASD support allows complete freedom to move about. This, combined with other presentation elements sells the whole 90s anime gaming vibe.

Unlike its predecessor, Date to Die For has players facing off against more than cosmic horror. Cultists wander the halls and rooms of Stardust's home. Staying quiet, moving slowly, and being cautious when opening doors are essential to s????urvival. It feels a lot more like survival horror instead of a dating sim, and this is another tricky spot.

I had expected Date to Die For to be more in line with First Date, but Akabaka is expanding on that foundation by int?roducing new mechanics. The problem isn't their execution, but the expectation. It's like watching a dark ??comedy and then discovering the sequel is a horror movie. Both are amazing experiences, but the disconnect is palpable.

Date to Die For leans heavily into the '90s anime vibe, from the art style and the setting to the tube TV overlay and stingers for each chapter. It might be preying on my nostalgia, but it works. It certainly evoked memories of watching shows like Trigun and Tenchi Muyo! in my much you?nger years, and is sure to be equall?y effective for those with a penchant for the art of the time.

On top of the phenomenal art design, the sound design, voice acting, and music are all amazing. Every song is an absolute b??op, and I found myself letting the credits roll for an extended period just to keep the tunes going. The sound design is top-notch, as the ambient noises in the home, peels of thunder in the distance, and the use of footsteps and clanging as a way to measure enemy proximity all work in concert to create a deep sense of unease. I found myself genuinely unsettled as I crept through the home, only to have that tension released with a jolt as a cultist grabbed me unexpectedly.

The voice acting is the real cherry on top, as it's not only a standout for the genre, but gaming as a whole. As a visu?al no??vel, these performances go a long way in immersing the player and carrying us from scene to scene. I wish I had enough space to highlight every performance, but suffice it to say, they're all amazing.

Kirsten Candelore's performance as Rhok'zan is awe-inspiring, as she believably sells the spectrum of emotions this cosmic entity experiences throughout the game. You can hear the honey drip from her voice as she tries to seduce Stardust, the quiet terror in her hushed???? tones, and refreshing candor when her guard is dropped for Stardust.

Despite it not being what I expected and having a few quirks like unusually long load times (30 seconds at most at odd times), Sucker for Love: Date to Die For is an easy recommendation for anyone. It's a genuinely heartwarming tale steeped in horror. The way it utilizes concepts familiar to Lovecraft fans and makes them its own is inspiring. It's flirty, charming, funny, and frightful in equal parts. If Akabaka was able to make this kind of leap be?tween the first and second entries, I can't wait to see what they do for the third.

DreadXP and Akabaka have announced that Sucker for Love: Date to Die For, the sequel to 2022's Sucker for Love: First Date, is coming out on February 14th. That's Valentine's Day for you romant?ics out there.

The release date was actually announced last week as part of The Indie Horror Showcase, and I have absolutely no idea how I missed it. Sucker for Love: First Date, if you recall, held a prestigious position as one of "Zoey Handley’s Top 10 Picks of 2022." It's a dating sim in which you perform arcan?e rituals to win the heart(s?) of an existential threat to humanity. I love it for its unique?? take on the genre, as well as its spot-on sense of humor.

Sucker for Love: Date to Die For has had a demo for yonks, but I've yet to try it. Rather than cast you as a lust-driven cultist trapped in their apartment, this one has you kidnapped and in need of escape. Damn, these ladies really know what I'm into. I wonder if Hastur will be in this one. The way she says "Yhtil" puts the wobble in my knees.

Sucker for Love: Date to Die For incorporates the 360-degree camera of Phasmophobia and includes more exploration. At the forefront of all the press is the dateable Rhok'zan, The Black Goat of the W??oods. I'm down. I love a girl with horns.
