The web-heads at Insomniac Games must be celebrating, as Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 sales have reached over 10 million copies as of February 4, 2024. The news was provided to us by Sony, who just released its financial results for the latest fiscal quarter. 

“Today, we're honored to celebrate an amazing milestone: Marvel's Spider-Man 2 has surpassed 10 million units sold, bringing the game series sales to an astounding 50 million units!�said Insomniac Games on Twitter. “Thank you for the support and making this spectacular journey possible!�/p>

It’s “amazing�that with just three games in the series, 50 million units have been sold. PlayS??tation??’s purchase of the talented studio Insomniac Games for $229 million seems to be a slam dunk with these Marvel's Spider-Man 2 sales numbers.

Those who picked up the sequel might be happy to know there’s a big title update coming March 7. It will include New Game+, new suits to play in, and more. No other details?? are out yet.

The news of the game reaching 10 million units is no doubt a good win, after the trouble caused by the Insomniac Games hack late last year. Upcoming plans, development videos, and personal data were all shared from a ransom at??tack. Hopefully this success can help ease any lingering hurt from that.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 released back on October 20, 2023. Destructoid gave it a 9/10 review. “It’s abundantly clear that this series isn’t over yet, and I hope that Insomniac never really stops working on superhero games,�said our review. “There’s so much of the Spider-Man mythos that’s untapped so far, and you could keep this gravy train running with some crazier ideas once this presumed trilogy is over.�/p>

Part of what makes our friendly neighborhood Spidey so special is his care and compassion for community. In Spider-Man 2, side quests reinforce some of the series' guiding ideals: heroism isn't always about taking down larger-than-life villains, like The Sandman. Sometimes, your ?cha??llenges require a more thoughtful touch.

It's the city, personified

Peter and Miles often face an onslaught of action in New York, but Spider-Man 2 side qu??????????????????????????ests offer moments of respite. They're opportunities to truly live in the Big Apple, listening to citizens' stories, and enjoying an extra puzzle or two.

A few truly stand out to me, like when Miles tries to help a classmate ask his boyfriend out to prom. It's simple and straightforward, but the perspective is sweet as Vijay prep?ares to ask his beau out in a grand fashion. The TV Vijay plans on using won't connect to the power, so Miles tries to reroute electricity to the shoddy screen. Spider-man 2's simplistic, rewarding puzzles connect one n?ode to the next, guiding the love story as you go. The whole sequence offers an adorable, thoughtful touch. As someone who's bisexual, it's one of those intimate details I just appreciate.

Saving the day

Another mission sends Miles to find the mascot for his sch??ool. It's been locked away by a rival school, hidden behind more difficult puzzles this time. The cheeky writing and the puzzles use reflecting lights between mirrors, the tone more than makes up for any moments of frustration in finding a solution. You also get neat interactions between Miles' crush, Hailey, and our hero as they try to figure out each clue presented. It demonstrates their comradery, as Spider-Man's side quests add brilliant layers of context and background to Miles Morales.

Then there's a favorite �a touching moment as you search for a lost grandfather. Without spoiling too much, he shares a moment with Spider-Man on a bench, offering a solemn, thoughtful scene without over-dramatizing. It's the quietest, most sincere cutscene I'll probably witness in a ga??me this year.

Finding all of the collectibles also pays off in the overall narrative. For example, if you find all the Prowler Stash locations, you'll find out more about the futu??re of Miles' uncle. It's the tiny details like this that truly made the experience for me. Even the smallest moments of tenderness snowball into something bigger than an individual.

Spider-Man is just Some Guy

While none of these quests are revolutionary, they all show the human side of both Spider-Men. They're not gallivanting off to Wakanda like The Avengers or saving the galaxy, like Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy. They're just the down-to-earth, friendly neighborhood hero we all know and love. The movies may not have the luxury of time to show life's milestones and private challenges, but the community is its own character here. Spider-Man 2's side quests play to the medium's strengths, offering another look at the he??roes that truly earn them the title.

Better get ready to wear those Spidey suits again because Marvel's Spider-Man 2 has gone gold. Insomniac Games announced the news on thei??r Twitter page Wednesday, and the studio also publi?shed a video with the cast psyched about the game going gold. At this point, it's unlikely that the game will get delayed.

"It has happened, the time is now," said Miles Morales' actor Nadji Jeter in the video.?? "Not bronze, not silver, but gold." He then proceeded to shout the announcement to the world.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 going gold m?eans that the game is now getting pressed into discs. There will likely be a day one patch, but the 1.0 version of the game is now getting made and shipped to warehouses and stores around the world.

"I just want to say that I love you and I'm so stoked for this game and I hope you guys enjoy it as much as we enjoyed making it," said Laura Bailey, who plays Mary Jane Watson in Marvel's Spider-Man 2.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 will be released exclus?ively for the PS5 on October 20, just one month away. There is no word on a PC vers??ion yet.

Insomniac Games seems to be the most productive studio under PlayStation for this generation. It has released Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Marvel's Spider-Man: Remastered, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, and very soon, Marvel's Spider-Man 2. Additionally, Marvel's Wolverine is in the works at Insomniac Games.

To help fans get ready for the game, there's a prequel comic that leads into the events of Marvel's Spider-Man 2.

Daedalic Entertainment has announced it has teamed up with Spitfire Interactive to create Capes, a turn-based super-hero strategy game coming to consoles and PC sometime this year. Spitfire Interactive is a developer formed by members of Defiant Development, creators of Hand of Fate. Perhaps more notably, the team is being headed by Morgan Jaffit, who was a member of Irrational Games during the development of one of the turn-based super-hero genre’s earliest members, 2002’s Freedom Force.

Capes takes place in a world where evil has long si??nce triumphed, and the development of super-powers is illegal. Keep that in mind next time you forget to take the tinfoil off a baked potato before microwaving it or peel the do-not-remove tag off a mattress. You might inadvertently give yourself illicit abilities. You take command of a squad of super-heroes who, contrary to what the name implies, do not wear capes. Your job is to recruit heroes to your cause and complete a series of main and side-missions to take down evil and free the city.

A trailer dropped today which demonstrates Capes�visual style and gameplay, which I’m honestly not digging. Not every super-hero ga??me actually has to have underwear worn on the exterior of pants, but the characters look tired, and the environments appear drab. Also, if I play a super-hero game, I want to create my own, and nothing in the currently-available informat??ion even implies that it will be a possibility.

That said, even with Marvel’s own Midnight Suns out there on the market, there’s room for more tactical super-hero games. There’s definitely some solid pedigree behind it, so I’m thinking this trailer just might not be the best representation of what Capes has to offer.

You won’t have much time to squeeze into your spandex, as Capes will be super-punching PC, Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S sometime in 2023. If you're uncertain, you can try the demo for the PC version as part of the Steam Next Fest.

Family Feud

Japanese indie dev nekogameteacher, (of Super Drink Bros. fame), is back on the scene with an equally nutty title with an equally silly premise. Currently in development for PC, Family Battle: Tag Arena promises multiplayer mayhem in a colorful ??anime world that hosts o?ne too many superheroes.

You'll have to bear with me, as details are understandably muddled, but it appears that Family Battle, true to its title, is the tale of two extended families of superpowered heroes, facing off to determine who is the one true "Super Family." This war will play out?? in a series of two-on-two arena-based battles, with teams stepping into the role of their chosen family members �all of which carry their own unique skills, abilities, p??owers, and play styles.

With one player in the role of "Attacker" and a second player as "Support," the two teams engage in fast-paced and chaotic 3D warfare, utilizing both melee and ranged attacks as well as their own respective powers to take the fight. While the attacking characters get down and dirty on the front line, it is up to the supporting player to disrupt the enemy from long-range �laying traps, clearing out hazards, or providing their partner with offensiv?e and defensive buff?s. With strong chemistry and quick communication, a team can use its strategy and synergy to bring the bragging rights back home.

Family Battle: Tag Arena is currently in development for PC (via Steam). It will enter an Early Access period from August 6, but you can check out the official store page right now. Do it for The Family.
