After a week of hints and teasers, Paradox Interactive has finally revealed its new title: Millennia. In Millennia, players will create their own nation in a historical turn-based 4X environment. From there, players will shape the nation across 10,000 years of history starting with the dawn of humanity and stretching into the future. According to Paradox, each playthrough will be unique as you craft an epic story based on your actions. The new strategy title is being developed by C Prompt Games, who doesn't seem to have much of a history. Based on their Steam page, the only previous title by them is a digital board game called Heretic Operative. A teaser trailer was included in the annou?ncement that briefly shows some of the many different Ages you can experience.

Many ages throughout the Millennia

In the trailer alone we see quite a few Ages starting with some rather common periods for the genre. Stone, Bronze, Iron, Kings, and Discovery, are all familiar periods in a historical 4X s?trategy game. However, near the end of the teaser, we get a glimpse at some rather peculiar Ages such as the Age of Old Ones, Age of Visitors, Age of Archangel, and even Age of Rogu??e AI. Wait did that say Old Ones? Where do I sign up?

Based on the screenshots on the Millennia Steam page, it looks like gameplay will be similar to the Civilization series and Humankind. The big difference here though appears to be the many different ways your nation can go, as opposed to just vertical tech??nological advances.

I'm a huge fan of Paradox titles, but don't get into Civilization-like games as easily. For comparison, I have almost 400 hours in Stellaris yet only 50 in Civilization VI. As such, I had trouble really getting into Humankind. I'm hoping Millennia does enough different to keep me playing like previo?us Par?adox titles.

Millennia is aiming for a 2024 release on PC.

A little horror with your comedy

Even though the over-the-top humor Rick and Morty-style humor isn't for everyone, High On Life went on to be the biggest 3rd party launch ever on Xbox Game Pass. Well, strap in for more, as Squanch Games has announced the first DLC for their comical first-person shooter newcomer.

Set two years after saving Earth from an alien cartel, the aptly named High On Knife DLC introduces a bit of spooky horror to the largely comedy-centric game. We got a brief teaser trailer to show what level of scares we can expect from th??is new adventure.

No more Justin Roiland

Following his departure from the company earlier this year, former Squanch Games CEO Justin Roiland will not be returning to voice the quirky talking weapons you pick up throughout the game. The DLC will feature two new guns: Harper, voiced by SNL alum Sarah Sherman, and B.A.L.L., voiced by High On Life's narrative director Alec Robbins.

Here's a quick overview from Squanch Games Chief Creative Officer Mi?key Spano:

“This trailer shows off a portion of the DLC where we’re dropping players into a darker, scarier setting ruled over by a mysterious, goopy new boss named Mux (voiced by Gabourey Sidibe.). We’re also introducing two brand new guns: Harper is an ex-military pistol trying to overcome her past and B.A.L.L. is a pinball gun operated by a chaoti??c gaggle of little gibberish-speaking weirdos. You’ll need both of them as well as Knifey’s hyper-violent new upgrade to overco?me the powerful, two-headed, laser-beam-blasting Bloat that hunts you in the dark. This is just a small slice of the DLC - there’s a ton more weird, funny, and surprising stuff we packed in that we think you’ll love so make sure to stay tuned!"

Are we in space?

Based on the trailer, we might be headed to some sort of space station or even a spaceship, with a setting similar to what we'd see in Dead Space or Aliens: Isolation (long corridors inside of some metal installation with fleshy-looking goo covering the walls). Also, what's with the various massive creatures walking aro??und throughout the teaser?

High on Knife will be available on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. No word whether or not we c??an expect the DLC to come to Xbox Game Pass as well. There's no release date just yet, but Squanch Games assures us it's coming soon.

All aboard the Titanic Scion

The 2023 Summer of Streamskicked off yesterday with a bang (or was it a whimper) with the Sony presentation that highlighted some hotly anticipated games and reminded this writer that Dragon's Dogma II was actually in development. There were some highlights to the show, but the only stream I've been focused on this year is the Marvelous Game Showcase. Marvelous and Xseed Games are one of my favorite developer/publisher combos out there, so when they have new games to announce, I pay attention. And I'm glad I was paying attention to the stream today because Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion capped off the showcase.

//youtu.be/N4NGndJUuMY?t=1693

Okay, so it's one of those terrible pre-rendered teaser trailers that I usually make fun of. But at least this game is happening. And why shouldn't it? According to Marvelous, Daemon X Machina sold "very well" on Nintendo Switch. While work on a sequel was confirmed back in 2021, the Marvelous Game Showcase was our first sorta-look at the title. A s??upplementary email that was sent out after the presentation didn't provide any extra information other than to say more details will be made available at a later date.

If you've never heard of Daemon X Machina, the game is a wonderful experimental mech action game with outstanding gameplay bookended by a story you'll likely forget about the moment you set down the controller. Even if ??it wasn't my favorite g??ame of 2019, it was one I came back to often because I could always rely on it for a good time.

Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion is now in development at Marvelous First Studio.

Meet the roster of Killer Klowns

If you can't get enough of some creepy clowns, you're in for a treat a new trailer for the Killer Klowns from Outer Space: The Game just dropped, and it's got all the spooky, grotesque weirdness we've come to love and expect from such an IP. The?? 50-second teaser doesn't give much of anything in terms of gameplay footage, but it does introduce us to the cast of Killer Klowns in the game's lineup (hence why it's titled "Meet the Klowns"). This trailer gets ??us up close and personal so we can get a better look at the Klowns' character models, as well as their weapons one of which is the iconic popcorn gun from the 1988 film.

This is our first in-depth look at the gameplay classes of Klowns players will face up against in the game, whose names are Trapster, Tracker, Scout, Fighter, and Tank (and anyone familiar with role-based multiplayer games can probably guess what those classes might play like based on their names alone). The official Killer Klowns from Outer Space: The Game website has a full rundown of each class, the character associated with it, and what to expect from each of their kits, so make sure to check it out if you ?really want to dig into the details.

Killer Klowns from Outer Space: The Game was announced at Gamescom Opening Night Live back in August of last year, and long-time fans of the movie were thrilled, including some of us here at Destructoid. It's a 3v7 multiplayer horror game, where players take on the role of either townspeople who must defend their home of Cresent Cove or the evil alien clowns who are hell-bent on destroying it. The development team at Good Shepard Entertainment also includes the executive director of the Friday the 13th game Randy Greenback, who will be serving as the executive director of Killer Klowns from Outer Space: The Game as well.

The only news we have regarding a release date is that the game should come out sometime in 2023, but in the meantime, you can wishlist Killer Klowns from Outer Space: The Game on Steam. If you just can't wait, you can also join the beta via the official website as well.

Get hype for some brand new Silent Hill content

It's been ten years since Silent Hill fans have gotten any new content, but thanks to Konami's stream today that's focused on showcasing the future of the series, we have a ton to look forward to now. One of the exciting upcoming titles previewed during the stream is a new spin-off title made by Annapurna and award-winning studio No Code called Silent Hill: Townfall.

The teaser trailer opens with a mysterious voice on some kind of tape recorder that also features a screen showing some creepy images, as is the way of horror games. Unfortunately the trailer doesn't give us much info as to what the gameplay or story might look like, but tonally, it seems like it'll fit right in with the rest of the Silent Hill series.

//youtu.be/oRvRWBQNrSI?t=1329

No Code creative director Jon McKellan then appeared to give fans a little more insight into what to expect from the game. He describes how playing the original Silent Hill game in 1999 made him a lifelong fan, and how that title has influenced the types of games his studio has created in their previous releases, Observation and Stories Untold.

"It's a real honor for us to bring a new title to this series that both respects the source material, but also does something a little different with it," McKellan said. "At No Code, we're all about weaving that [psychological horror] narrative and that experience?? into every aspect of our game design, our audio, our visuals, even our UI."

The studio doesn't have any more to share as of now, but it's exciting to just know that this game is happening at all. Given No Code's track record, especially with them working with Annapurna, I have some pretty high hopes that Silent Hill: Townfall will deliver both a ter??rifyi??ng and narratively fulfilling entry in the series.
