Netflix has dropped a new "Special Teaser" for the upcoming Squid Game: Season 2, and the roughly one-minute video actually gives us quite a bit of information about the upcoming season. If you want to go into Squid Game: Season 2 completely blind when it drops on December 26, you might want to skip it. But if you're like us and looking for any more Squid Game goodn?ess, he??re's what we've gathered from the teaser.

Return of Gi-hun (and Player 456)

Even though Squid Game: Season 1 ended with the main character Seong Gi-hun planning to head to the United States and never return to the madness that is Squid Game, we quickly realize that's not the case. Even though Squid Game: Season 2 takes place three years after Gi-hun won Squid Game, in the teaser we see Gi-hun once again waking up in the infamous room full of stacked bunk beds with other contestants which confirms what many have suspected: For one reason or another, Gi-hun is once again a contestant in Squid Game.

Oh, and he's once again rocking the Player 456 jumpsuit. Assuming the second season's challenge also consists of 456 players like the first, that makes it highly unlikely that Gi-hun just so happened to randomly get the number in back to back Squid Games. And in the teaser, Gi-hun wakes up in the room of beds seemingly surprised to be there. So what does this mean? It's highly likely that someone—perhaps even the Front Man, In-ho, from Season 1—is messing with Gi-hun fo?r some reason.

However, it's also possible that the teaser is intentionally misleading its viewers into thinking Gi-hun is surprised to be there. Perhaps Gi-hun has intentionally returned to the game with the goal of seeking revenge, or perhaps Gi-hun has returned to the Squid Game in the role that Oh Il-nam, the old man, played in ?Season 1: not as an actual contestant, but a "hidden player" for one reason or another.

Plenty of New Games

As expected, it looks like the contestants in Squid Game: Season 2 will have some all-new games to endure for? their chance of winning 45.6 billion won. Throughout the teaser, we get brief flashes of various game rooms and challenges that are taking place, including once again an arena of sorts with a retractable roof hidden amongst the treetops of a remote island.

One of the flashes we see is a dirt or floor with two big rainbow circles on the ground, with contestants pouring into the game room from a single door. It's way too early to tell, but some of the new games even appear to be inspired by games from the original Squid Game season like "Red Light, Green Light" and even the final challenge, aptly titled Squid Game.

Second seasons are always very hit or miss, but it at least looks like Squid Game: Season 2 is similar enough to Season 1 that fans wanting more should be happy. We'll know more soon as Squid Game: Season 2 is set to release on Netflix on December 26.

When you think of Nintendo, you probably don't think of horror. That's why a lot of people are a little perturbed to see the Mario creator posting a new video that's not only mysterious, but it's creeping people out. And we don't even know wha?t it's actually in relation to.

Anyone who's anyo??ne knows the kind of games Nintendo is known for, so it's quite the mystery to see this short horror teaser that simply asks "who is Emio?". At only 15-seconds long, we do??n't get much, but what we see is enough to get everyone talking.

All we're treated to is a dark figure, clad in a simple trench coat. They stand against a wall, with just a small light highlighting their frame. But that??'s not what we're drawn to. The most unsettling thing about this clip is the paper bag on their head, complete with a hand-drawn ?smiley face. Why is it smiling?! Bags are for carrying groceries!

Is it related to the Nintendo/Bloober Team colab?

Far be it from me to throw interpretations your way. I'm sure everyone has their own theory. Here's a Reddit thread if you want to know what a lot of people are saying about this Emio character. The Nintendo website itself certainly doesn't help fill in any clues.

However, it might not be beyond the realm of possibility to conclude that it may be (perhaps) related to Bloober Team. Hear me out. Basically, this interview (translated by Google from Poli?sh to English) with studio CEO Piotr Babieno does mention something about a new project that's being ??worked on by the horror developer for "Nintendo platforms."

Is it a new horror IP then from the Layers of Fear developer? Let me just absolutely reassert that this is just speculation on my part. Pure and ?simple. The timing, however, of both the interview and the Emio teaser is quite interesting. But, remember: speculation. Nothing more.

Having said that, it's not 100% out of Nintendo's wheelhouse to dance with the horror demon once in a blue moon. No, I'm not talking about Luigi's Mansion. Many will remember the Game Cube exclusive Eternal Darkness, a survival horror game that pretty much invented the sanity mechanic that would be popularized in Amnesia: The Dark Descent year??s late??r. Well, Nintendo published that, so it's not as if the company is afraid of dipping its toes into the dark and spooky.

At this stage, it's a fun little teaser that's getting us all talking about what's possibly on the horizon from the people that brought us The Legend of Zelda and Donkey Kong. But also the giant, snapping piano in Mario 64.

If you haven't played Black Mesa, the unofficial (yet wholly endorsed by Valve) remake of Half-Life, it's definitely worth checking out. For those of us who have played �and enjoyed �it, the team respon??sible ??for it is teasing a new game that's currently in the pipeline.

A video uploaded to YouTube by developer Crowbar Collective (thanks, GamesRadar) gives us just 22 seconds of something the studio is working on. All we get is the company logo followed by a colorful symbol that leaves us non the ?wiser. And th??at's it.

If you want to keep up-to-date with what the developer is working on, you're encouraged to sign up to the mailing list?. Suffice it to say, it's impossible to know what the project is, but I bet you'll have your own theories.

It's probably not Half-Life 3

It could be a brand-new IP from Crowbar Collective. However, for all?? we know, it could be another remake. Perhaps of the sequel or some other classic FPS. Who knows? Not I, ??that's the point I'm making.

As for Black Mesa, it was in development for years before it finally came out in an official capacity in 2020. It rebuilds the original Half-Life from the ground up, complete with fresh ??voice acti?ng.

It also tinkered with the OG a little bit. In order to keep diehard fans on their toes, some parts were tweaked or changed in certain respects. It also improved on the Xen aspect of the game, which some feel was lacking somewhat in Half-Life. Again, worth checking out if you're a fan of the original.

No More Secrets

Grasshopper Manufacture, the studio founded by esoteric game designer Suda51, is teasing some sort of announcement for June 15, which is the?? date that its online countdown clock hits Terminus.

While the clock was first started back in March (on the anniversary of No More Heroes, no less), fan @Knoebelbroet spot?ted that it had recently been updated with a new design, as well as offering a new and definitive date for the mysterious reveal??. The timing would suggest that the reveal was initially set to take place during this week's Summer Game Fest event, but has now been delayed to the following week.

So, what is it? Well, the fact that the clock launched on No More Heroes' anniversary could suggest a new entry in Suda51's lurid action-adventure series. That said, there have been whispers that the studio has been working on a new title for some years now �A video shot at the studio itself last year showed an artist working on a grotesque boss character, leading some to believe a new Shadows of the Damned might be in the works. Although it's been a while since we heard anything of the Lollipop Chainsaw remake,?? ?Suda51 and his current staff are not involved with that project, so it is unlikely to pertain to that game.

Whatever the ultimate reveal turns out to be, all of the prospects are pretty exciting. And, thankf??ully, we won't have to wait too much longer to find out the truth. We will, of course, bring you all of the details from the June 15 Grasshopper Manufacture reveal right here on Destructoid.

Team17 has announced that they will be publishing Absolutely Games�World War II title, Classified: France �4, sometime in �3. The turn-based st??rategy game is targeting PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Oh, crap. It’s just a teaser.

We get ??to see some Nazis get killed up in different ways, which is always fun, but no actual gameplay.

Let’s see here. There’s a p?ress kit. It looks like an Unreal ??3 Engine game. That might be why they chose to go with CG over in-engine stuff.

Aesthetics aside, WWII is a great setting for squad tactics. Killing Nazis never gets old, and when WWII gets strategic, it’s usually in the form of some grand strategy game. Which are enjoyable, don’t get me wrong. I guess Classified: France �4 got my attention because I’m pining for the days of Silent Storm.

There’s a big Silent Storm-shaped hole in my heart right now.

Quiet squall

Classified: France �4 is inspired by the untold story of the Jedburghs" which, uh, have a Wikip??edia page, so I’m not sure it’s definitely untold. However, the term is applied to allied groups who were dropped in occupied France, the Netherlands, and Belgium as part of Operation Jedburgh. They helped set the stage for D-Day by sabotaging German operations.

To set itself apart from other tactical games, Classified: France �4 promises a greater emphasis on stealth. T?he campaign is to be non-linear and will have you guiding a growing team of operatives while gaining favor with various factions. Absolu?tely Games says that the PC version will come with a mission editor that will be the same one that the studio itself used to design the in-game missions.

I’m down for this. I like turn-based strategy games, and despite the fact that it’s well-trodden ground, I haven’t tired of games set during WWII. Still, there’s not a lot of information given, especially when it comes to any inspiration it might have gained from Silent Storm.

One can only assume that NetherRealm Studios is ready to reveal the next title in the Mortal Kombat franchise, rumored to be titled Mortal Kombat 1. Netherrealm Studios continues to tease the reveal of the next title in its ultra-gory fighter series Mortal Kombat �Following on from the "grain of sand" anniversary video, ?a new teaser seems to suggest that the unveiling?? of NRS' latest is pretty much imminent.

A short video tracks the second hand of a clock, as it ominously ticks down toward 12, (which is, numerically, the next title in the series), however, the hand ultimately skips past 12 and jumps straight to 1. Additionally, while the clock is relatively standard-looking, the reflection in the glass shows a galaxy of grains, which is in keeping with the ?hourglass owned by the franchise's time-warping villain, Kronika.

While there are many possible readings of the symbolism on display here, some fans suggest that skipping 12 represents a resetting of the timeline, which makes sense given the climax of Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath. Others have opined that the clock is telling us that the new game is not Mortal Kombat 12 at all, and is either a standalone release or a non-numerical sequel/spin-off. This labyrinth of possibilities is only further complicated by a new leak from prominent spoiler bill-bilkun, who claim the new title is in development for PC and Gen 9 consoles under the title Mortal Kombat 1.

But, despite all this speculation, one thing's for sure: Netherrealm is getting ready to lift the lid on its next project soon. As I have previously noted, while the most recent MK timeline was certainly ambitious and even successful in the early going, the studio quickly painted itself into a corner wi??th its interminable "Revenants vs. PMC" storyline. And, as such a slap of the big red reset button might be just what the franchise needs.

Winding back the clock?

NetherRealm Studios has released a video thanking its fans for three decades of devotion to the Mortal Kombat series �The video ends with a cryptic image that appears to be the first tease for a brand new title, presumably Mortal Kombat 12.

Backed by the awesome "Subway" theme from Mortal Kombat 3, the video sees various members of the NetherRealm team offer the community their thanks for sticking by the super-gory fight franchise since its inception way back in 1992. On deck are a plethora of stud??io names new and old, including graphics dude John Vogel, audio director Dan "Toasty" Forden, designer Derek Kirtzic, art director S??teve Beran and, of course, co-creator and NetherRealm director Ed Boon.

The video then ends with a cryptic clip, featuring a torrent of sand trickling from the hourglass of the time-twisting boss of Mortal Kombat 11, Kronika. After the final grain leaves the hourglass, its shatters into endless grains, which would perhaps suggest a full restart of the timeline, or even a shakeup into multiple timelines. While Mortal Kombat's reboot, which began in 2011, definitely redefined storytelling in the fighting game genre, there's no denying that the timeline very quickly painted itself into a corner, struggling through the events of MKX and really hitting the wall in MK11.

MK11's visuals, characters, action, motion capture, and vocal performances were stellar, (for the most part), but there was a definite struggle ??to reconvene the interminable "Revenant" angle, wh?ich ended up becoming an anchor around the narrative's neck. A new start �however the studio wishes to implement it �would definitely be welcomed by many.

And this time around, let's have way, way fewer guns and PMCs, ah'm beggin' ya.

Exciting news for MK fans in general and the ??fighting game community as a whole. We will, of course, keep you fully informed when NRS has more exciting news to reveal.

The LEGO Company has released a teaser video giving fans a glimpse of some of the new figures headed to its ever-expanding LEGO Super Mario toy line �T??he ?five new figures, which were revealed on the company's Twitter, represent the key members of the much-loved Donkey Kong family.

In the video, we can see the unmistakable designs of Cranky Kong, Diddy Kong, and Daisy Kong, as well as the main man, Donkey Kong himself. And because no game is complete without a Funky Kong mode, then that totally tubular ape is also putting in an appearance, wraparound shades and all. While the characters' features are yet to be detailed, we can assume that these battery-operated LCD figures will interact with the LEGO Super Mario playsets, much li??ke previous releases Mario, Luigi, and Daisy.

Something appears to be ?going on with Diddy's tail..?. not quite sure what that's about.

The LEGO Super Mario series first launched in 2020, featuring the iconic Nintendo mascot and several basic playsets. Since then, the line has greatly expanded, with playsets based on Bowser's Castle, Luigi's Mansion, Bowser's Airship, and even The Big Man himself. These sets feature augmented play action, with sound effects and other neat tricks playing out as the figures are placed on and around the homemade courses. The Donkey Kong family of figures will undoubtedly add new options for set growth, as young LEGO and Super Mario fans build a Mushroom Kingdom of their very own.

Road Diner Simulator was announced some time ago to be coming from Gas Station Simulator developer Drago Entertainment, and now we’re fin??ally?? getting our first look at the game.

The new teaser mostly just shows off the target aesthetic while also g??iving a glimpse at some of its intended features. As is often the case?? with teasers, no gameplay is shown, but we at least get to see a guy guzzle down coffee moments after it’s poured for him. That’s pretty cool.

The key takeaway here would be Road Diner Simulator’s usage of Unreal Engine 5 with its fancy lighting and reflections. Previous games ??used Unreal Engine 4. While this means that the lighting in the diner looks more convi??ncing, we’re left with the awkward animations and dead-eyed character models. Not that I mind, I feel that comes with the small dev/big ideas territory. Just an amusing one.

The teaser was presented to me as though it was going to show off more of the interconnection the title will have with Gas Station Simulator. The idea is that Road Diner Simulator will read off your Gas Station Simulator save and depict your progress on the opposite side of the road. There has been some indication that success in one game will attract more business in the other, but right now, we only have indications that, yes, your gas station will be there. I at least like the concept, as it’s something Maxis toyed around with in the �0s with games like Streets of SimCity.

Whether or not it works ou??t in practice is another matter.

[Update: Drago Entertainment has since clarified that the level of your gas station, motel, or diner will affect the pool of customers in the area. Normal customers are the generic types you already see roaming around your gas station. However, in Motel Simulator and Road Diner Simulator?? there will be special and local customers. Locals are essentially regulars who frequent your establishments frequ??ently, while special customers are "rare customers with deeply developed backgrounds and dialogs."

They also state that the three games will link together in a "local economy." Simply put, building up better business in the area will bring about more affluent customers who will buy and tip more. However, they also state that decisions made in one game? might bring penalties to the other linked games.

??Ag??ain, this is all interesting in concept, but I'm wondering (and hopeful about) how it will be balanced it will be in practice.]

I really enjoyed Gas Station Simulator, but the follow-up, Food Truck Simulator, was, uh�kind of awful. Drago Entertainment has no shortage of ambition, as they’ve already announced many titles in development with similar concepts. I have no doubt that they’re trying to deliver quality titles, and improvements have been made to all their previous titles. It just se?ems like they’re putting a lot on their plate.

Either way, I’m still looking forward to trying out Road Diner Simulator.

The Straw Hats are back

It looks like Luffy and the gang aren't quite done with their RPG escapades yet. Bandai Namco is working on a new story DLC for One Piece Odyssey called Reunion of Memories, and it's coming soon.

There's no indication of a date just yet, but today's teaser trailer lays out some of the narrative groundwork. Much like the story of One Piece Odyssey itself, Reunion of Memories looks to be diving back into the storied past of the manga series. Lim, the young woman from Waford who played a key role in Odyssey, looks to be the focal point again, as the team ??is contending with a Dark Lim doppelganger.

In a message from the game's producer, Katsuaki Tsuzuki, it's said that one of the key points of this One Piece Odyssey DLC is the theme of "new hidden story with bonds." It will ??also focus heavily on battles, and the team recommends clearing the main story before tackling the DLC.

There will also be some new characters that weren't in ??the main game. The full roster isn't being confirmed yet, but Tsuzuki says you may be surprised to find other characters "where you least expect them." More details are on the way soon.

Additionally??, since release, the team has been listening to feedback and player requests, some o??f which have already been implemented in patches since launch.

The quest never ends

One Piece is still one of those series that I'm aware of but have never really personally dug into. That said, Odyssey seems like it was an interesting exploration of the fiction, if nothing else. I certainly respect the effort to try and tell the tale in an RPG format.

For those hoping for deeper One Piece cuts in their Odyssey, I hope the??y get what they want when the Reunion of?? Memories DLC hits.

Everybody do the side-step

A new video from developer Arika appears to tease an update in the works for cult fighting title Fighting EX Layer �The video, which sees Fatal Fury's Terry Bogard facing off against FEXL's Allen Snider was released by the developer ahead o??f Japan's EVO 2023 tournament, which takes place in April.

The key reasoning behind the new video seems a little obscure as of this writing, though said video was followed up by a newer, better-looking version �suggesting that Arika is currently working on something in regards to the Street Fighter EX spin-off title. The most notable moment of this video sees Allen Snider perform several side steps, Tekken-style. This seems to suggest that a "Dodge" ability might be in the works? �which would add a 3D element to the 2.5D fighter.

A brief note accompanying the video references EVO Japan, and also asks fans to be patient with the quality of the video and its effects. The summary of this confusing content drop appears to suggest that Arika has something to show us at EVO Japan 2023, and that it might be a Fighting EX Layer update, complete with new mechanics and, potentially, tweaked v?isuals and special effects. Of course, we will be sure to give you all a heads-up once Arika's plan has been properly explained.

Fighting EX Layer launched on PS4 in the summer of 2018. Following a series of free post-release characters, the title would be successful enough to encourage Arika to develop a PC port later that year. In 2021, a complete edition titled Fighting EX Layer Another Dash was released for Nintendo Switch.

Build 'n' Burn

2K Games, in association with The LEGO Company, released a teaser trailer for its first game in its new collaboration pa??rt??nership �The arcade racer based upon the timeless toy will receive its official reveal this Thursday, March 23.

The fun teaser for the teaser, which you can check out below, introduces us to Awesome News Network reporter Vikki Wheeler, who puts the brakes on the announcement trailer, telling viewers that they'll have to tune in on Thursday for the full reveal. Interestingly, there's a really obvious cut right before she says the name of the game, clearly a last-minute decision not to reveal the title just yet �though multiple rumors from a variety of sources suggest that the game may be named "LEGO 2K Drive".

Worryingly??, I think I fancy Vikki Wheeler, but then I'm yet to have my morning coffee.

The new title is the first release in what is expected to be a multi-game partnership between LEGO and 2K Games, with the latter hoping to appeal to both younger and more casual audiences with a series of sports titles based around the block-building pastime. Given that 2K games owns numerous athletic licenses, I'm interested to see if there are plans on the table for LEGO NHL 2K, LEGO NBA 2K, or, best of all, LEGO WWE 2K.

Premieres in Japan this summer

Wonderful news for fans of the Atelier series, as Koei Tecmo has revealed that a new anime adaptation of Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout is currently in production inc collaboration with Anipl?ex. The new TV series is expected to premiere in Japan this coming summer.

Not much was offered in the way of detail about the anime, but it is confirmed to be a straight adaptation of the 2019 video game, which saw young hero Reisalin Stout �more commonly known as "Ryza", embark upon a country-crossing series of adventures with her friends, ??where they become embroiled in a world of magic, alchemy, and monsters. The anime is being produced by studio Liden Films, who have a proven pedigree in adapting games and manga to the medium of animation.

As you can see from the teaser trailer above, the new anime features some wonderful lineart and animation, even if the camera is a tad on?? the shameless side.

It's a very promising look at what will no doubt be an eagerly anticipated show for the Atelier faithful.

Studio teams with streamers for mystery game

Splash Damage, the British developer behind the multiplayer modes for many hit titles, has announced t??hat it has begun development on a?? brand new "AAA" title, currently codenamed "Project Astrid".

The studio, which is also currently beavering away on online actioner Transformers: Reactivate, were tight-lipped on details pertaining to the new project, although it did reveal that Project Astrid will be an "open world survival game" and is being developed in collaboration with popular streamers Mike "Shroud" Grzesiek and Chris "Sacriel" Ball. A teaser trailer was released ?specificall?y focusing on the latter announcement.

"This project means everything to me," said Grzesiek. "Chris and I have refined a vision for what's next in the survival genre and with Splash Damage we're setting out to build it. "Project Astrid is the culmination of this passion, born out of a partnership with two close friends, who also happen to be incredibly well-respected experts in our industry," added Splash Damage CEO Richard Jolly. Splash Damage has previously worked on the multiplayer modes for various major league franchises, including Batman: Arkham, Wolfenstein, Gears of War, and Halo. That planet is cracked

Dying Light studio Techland has published a teaser for its next pro??ject. Though still unnamed, the new fantasy title got a slice of concept art today.

On Twitter, Techland shared the art of i??ts ne??west game. It's set to be a narrative-driven fantasy epic, with an "exotic open world" to explore.

What can we see? Well, we've got a man holding onto a tree, observing a far-off city. There's some wildlife about, and some waterfalls, and off in the distance is a big, cracked planet. Not too much to go on for now other than vibes, though vibes seem squarely set in the sci-fi fantasy realm. And given Techland's proclivity for movement in the Dying Light series, probably some free-running at some point.

Sweet, sweet fantasy

It's interesting to see Techland turn to fantasy, after doing so much work in the zombie genre. But I do like the idea of some of that parkour-centric development bleeding over into a more out-there world. It reminds me of the new project from IO Interactive, where the team over there is al?so working on its own fantasy title.

Techland had teased an open-world fantasy game with RPG elements back in 2016, though it clarified that it has RPG elements, but is not an RPG game??. Whatever the case may be, I'm definitely interested in seeing what Techland has been cooking up for its fantasy? project.

What day is it this Friday? I'll tell you what it is, it's MAR10 Day, dagnabbit, and The LEGO Company is preparing to show off something new and special ?in order to celebrate Nint??endo's most famous and perhaps most beloved character (after Luigi).

On Friday, the toymaker will be holding a special "Lego Super Mario YouTube Premiere" live stream, offering updates on its lovely LEGO Super Mario range and teasing "exclusive content and a big reveal". The action kicks off on the official LEGO YouTube channel at 00:80 PT / 11:00 ET / 17:00 GMT and will be hosted by Jack Gardner �who I am assuming is not the former 1950 British Empire boxing?? champion.

The LEGO Super Mario range, which launched in the summer of 2020, has consisted of multiple sets and showpieces featuring the characters and worlds of Nintendo's best-selling series. For younger players, there are sets that allow for the building of "courses" to be played by smart interactive Maxifigures of Mario, Luigi, and Princess Peach. For the more dedicated collector, LEGO has released prestige (and pricey) kits of the Super Mario 64 Question Block, Bowser's Airship, and The Mighty Bowser himself.

As part of the Paradox Announcement Show, the publisher has finally teased the coming of Cities: Skylines II with a te?ntative release date of this year. So far, we’ve only got a teas??er trailer to whet our appetite and that kind of sucks.

Cities: Skylines was released eight years ago in 2015 and has enjoyed continuous updates. Released in the fallout from the massive disappointment that was 2013’s SimCity, Colossal Order’s city builder has sold millions of copies. Numerous expansions have built upon the game’s bones, but many, like myself, have been awaiting the next big iteration. I don’t exactly know where they can go from Cities: Skylines, but I have a wishlist. I mostly just?? want my city peeps to have more depth. Let me zoom right into their nostrils.

Rock the Dragon

There was a pretty big surprise for all Senzu Bean lovers this weekend, as Bandai Namco dropped a reveal for a brand new title in the dormant fighting game series Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi. The new title did not receive an o?fficial title, release date, or platform reveal, but we did get?? a brief teaser.

The short, one-minute teaser features footage from some classic Budokai Tenkaichi titles being played on a CRT television, before the image blows up into fullscreen HD with protagonist Goku going Super Duper Super Saiyan, (or something). This clip is then followed by the brief message "Get Ready for Battle... A New Sparking Begins". Dragon Ball Sparking! is, of course, the series Japanese moniker.

Originally developed by Spike Chunsoft and launched on the PS2 platform back in 2005, Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi was the first modernized fighting game set within the legendary anime universe, and saw a roster of familiar heroes and villains going at it on a unique 3D plane, replicating the hyper-dynamic look of the show. The game would receive two sequels and several spin-offs, the latest release being 2012's Dragon Ball Z: For Kinect. The series would essentially be superseded by the fantastic Arc System Works fighter Dragon Ball FighterZ, though die-hard fans have cla??mored for its return.

Things seem to be getting strange(r) in Warframe

The popular online multiplayer game Warframe is getting its next big piece of content next month. The Duviri Paradox expansion for Warframe arrives in April, bringing its own style?? of exp?erience to the sci-fi game.

As premiered during today's March Devstream, a teaser showed off some more of the theme and vibe for The Duviri Paradox. The story follows the Drifter, stuck in a shifting and changing world, going up against the Child?? King rule??r Dominus Thrax.

Publisher a??nd developer Digital Extremes is billing this as a roguelike-inspired Open Wor?ld experience, which will be accessible to both new and old players. You can get a glimpse of what that looks like here:

During today's stream, the team also shared more about the different improvements to the Warframe experience and what's in store for this update. Crucially, there are three different game modes you'll be greeted with when kicking off your journey. "The Circuit" will be a new, Warframe Only endless game mode, while "The Duviri Experience" will be a full open world adventure. For those who want some solo story, "The Lone Story" will provide that. You can learn more from the Twitch VOD here.

No date was locked in, just the April window; but more information about The Duviri Paradox and its date will be coming "soon."

A true paradox

I'm admittedly not a huge Warframe person, though that's mostly from never having played ??more than a few hours of it. Today's announcement caught my eye, though, with its statement that players new and old could both hop in.

Those who have taken the plunge with Warframe have frequently sung its praises, so an onboard ramp is certainly appealing to me. Plus, a roguelike option in a constantly updating game is curious to me, in and of itself. We'll see just what the paradox holds when The Duviri Paradox hits Warframe sometime next month.

For those who want to celebrate the new content in-person, there's an additional bit of good news: Digital Extremes will be hosting TennoC?on in-person later this year on August 2?6 in London, Ontario.

Don't Nod Montreal is teasing its next project. A new photo for the upcoming game has been shared on social media, alongside a cal?l for job applican?ts.

As shared on Twitter, Don't Nod Montreal spotlights a screen of its new experience, with the caption, "Does it bring back childhood memories?" The team says it?? is hiring on this "new narrative game" and lists?? a link to the Don't Nod career site.

The project will feature veterans from both Life is Strange and Life is Strange 2, as confirmed by its director Michel Koch. What it might be about is anyone's guess. Though from the décor and vib?es alone, I feel like a '90s setting definitely lines up here.

What's in store for Don't Nod

The team at Don't Nod has been working on a few projects since the release of Life is Strange back in 2015. The Montreal subsidiary was established in 2020, with a stat?ed goal of creat??ing "even more ambitious" titles.

Between the follow-up Life is Strange 2 and other projects, like vampire RPG Vampyr and narrative one-offs Tell Me Why and Twin Mirror, Don't Nod has been busy. The company also changed its name, going from Dontnod to Don't Nod, and had a minority stake investment from Tencent.

Though Life is Strange is now under the wing of another studio, I'm curious to see what the Don't Nod crew are working on next. This image gives off some of the familiar hometown-story vibes that Life is Strange ha?s been known for. But we probably won't know much more about it until Don't Nod Montreal is ready to fully reveal it.

Mobile RPG to be announced January 18

Square Enix has announced that it will be unveiling yet another mobile release set within the world of the iconic franchise Dragon Quest. Th??e as-yet-unannounced title will be showcased in a special event held on Wednesday, Janu??ary 18.

While no further details were revealed at this early stage, a new teaser website and Twitter channel have been launched in Japan. According to Gematsu, the new title will be an RPG, and next week's event will feature a gameplay overview along with a new trailer and further release details. The live stream will take place on the official Square Enix Japan You??Tube channel, January 18, at 19:00 JST / 02:00 PT / 11:00 BST.

This release will be the latest in a long, long line of Dragon Quest titles released for mobile devices. These games have ranged from rereleases of Dragon Quest classics, to an abundance of free-to-play RPGs, monster trainers, and geolocation titles. Many of these modern releases have ended service within two-to-three years of launch. The most recent release in this medium, Dragon Quest Tact, launched in North America in January 2021 and ??remains current??ly operational.

We'll soon find out whether this new release is a full premium RPG or another flas??h-i?n-the-pan F2P title.

Publisher Prime Matter, in association with developers Starbreeze Studios and Overkill Software, have started off their 2023 with a bang �a block of C4, to be precise �with an update on the long-awaited multiplayer sequel Payday 3, which ?will be donning masks and raiding vaults later in 2023.

The studios released a short teaser video, debuting the shooter sequel's logo but sadly devoid of any actual in-game footage. Regardless, it was announced that Payday 3 would be launching on PC (via Steam) and unspecified console platforms later this year, in news that will no doubt cause a lot of itchy trigger fingers among veteran heisters. A new FAQ reveals that the title ?will be set in New York, ??and will see the return of gang members Dallas, Hoxton, Chains, and Wolf.

"There probably are a lot of questions about Payday 3 that you want to ask, and while we can’t answer all of them (yet!) we want to share a space where the community can talk about anything Payday 3 as we get closer to launch," said Starbreeze brand director Almir Listo in a new statement. "On that note, we’ve opened up the Steam Community Hub, so we can start using its discussion board. If you have a question you’ve been?? wondering about, ask it there and we’ll do our best to answer!"

It has been a long and turbulent road to the series' second sequel, hindered by a slew of financial and legal issues at Starbreeze Studios. A huge cash injection by Koch Media would ultimately allow production to continue, and this coming year will finally see Payday 3 hit the streets after its extremely troubled development cycle. It's hard not to see the title as a do-or-die situation for Starbreeze, so here's hopin??g that the final release will??, ultimately, break the bank.

Skunkape Games has announced that it has begun development of Sam & Max: The Devil's Playhouse Remastered, following on from its previously released remasters of Telltale Games classics Sam & Max Save the World Remastered and Sam & Max: Beyond Time and Space Remastered. This latest retread will launch o?n unannounced pl??atforms later in 2023.

First released on PC and PS3 way back in 2010, The Devil's Playhouse was the third of Telltale Games' Sam & Max adventures, and sees the Freelance Police investigate a series of strange phenomena linked to the powerful psychic machinations of the mysterious "Toys of Power". The original release of The Devil's Playhouse sported a fresh new game engine, and allowed the player to take direct control of both Sam and Max independently �allowing for a shakeup of the title's puzzle elements and adding an extra emphasis on?? synergy and teamwork between the?? two characters.

While Skunkape Games has not offered any official information on the new title, we can likely expect The Devil's Playhouse Remastered to feature updated character models and environmental textures, tauter controls, and slicker U.I. integration. If we're lucky, we might also see the new release include additional artwork, voicework, and music, as was the case for both Save the World Remastered and Beyond Time and Space Remastered. Happy new year folks! Here's to another fine year of this fine pastime of video gaming, and it seems that many of Japan's biggest developers and publishers are all ready and raring to bring fun new adventures your way in 2023... They just aren't exactly ready t?o come forward with any titles, release dates, platforms, or trailers...

As part of ??the myriad Happy New Year messages dropp??ed by multiple studios, a lot of titles were certainly teased �in as much as it was revealed that they exist, somewhere, in somebody's desk.

Konami led the charge, teasing "power-ups", (whatever the hell that means), and "new developments for familiar series" while also "quietly progressing on n?ew projects". So, look forward to all of that. Especially the power-ups!!

Persona publisher Atlus also joined the cryptic crew, noting that it is "preparing several unannounced titles" while also asking fans to check out the incoming ports of Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden, which hit PlayStation, PC, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch platforms on January 19. They'll be here before you know it �ready and raring for their 14th pla??ythrough.

Spike Chunsoft �of Danganronpa and AI: The Somnium Files �also noted that it was "preparing unannounced large-scale title(s)" with some form of reveal to be expected "in the not-so-distant future". Spike Chunsoft is also preparing Master Detective Archives: Rain Code for its upcoming Switch release, and will also be handling the long-awaited PS5 edition of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Complete Edition.

Koei Tecmo was a little more specific with its new year plans, announcing new RPG Fate/Samurai Remnant for PlayStation, PC, and Nintendo Switch platforms. Fans can expect the new title at some point in 2023. Developers Omega Force and Kou Shibusawa, and Aniplex released a short teaser trailer. You can also check out a brand-new website right here.

Reveal will be unrelated to Final Fantasy VII Rebirth

2023 is underway, and, like clockwork, all of the studios and publishers are taking to the airwaves to offer non-descript teases for their new year's wares �Perhaps the most notable of these has come from Square Enix producer Yoshinori Kitase, who has teased a "big announcement" concerning the legendary Final Fantasy franchise.

Interestingly, however, Kitase notes that the announcement is unrelated to the ongoing Final Fantasy VII Rebirth project, which Kitase is helming alongside the team at SE's Creative Business Unit I. While it is believed that the second chapter of the epic remake series is scheduled to launch in t??he winter of this year, the mystery announcement seemingly concerns an entirely differ?ent project.

"Development is picking up speed on the title I’m producing, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth," said Kitase in the short New Year's message. "I’m sure many of your collective imaginations are running wild trying to picture how we’ll recreate some of the game?’s most iconic scenes, and we’ll have more to share about tha??t when the time is right."

"There’s also another big announcement unrelated to Final Fantasy VII that I can’t say anything about just yet. ??Rest assured we’re working hard to make sure 2023 is the most exciting year y??et."

Given that 2023 is the "Year of the The Rabbit", K??itase's message was also accompanied by cu??te artwork featuring our lop-eared pals from the FF universe, daubed by Rokuma Saito

Intriguing news. Time will tell whether we're looking at another remake announcement, a wholly new title from Kitase and co. or some other multimedia project entirely. I'd say "it looks like this year is going to be a big year for Final Fantasy fans", but, quite honestly, when was the last time a year didn't bring us a slew of new titles, remasters, DLC, ports, mobile releases, or updates for games set within the most recognizable RPG series of all time? Every year is a big year for Final Fantasy fans.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth ??is scheduled to launch winter 2023, exclusively on PS5.

Neptunia developer to kick off the year in style

Compile Heart, the Japanese developer behind the relentless Hyperdimension Neptunia franchise, has announced that it has a grand reveal pla??nned to kick off its new year. The announcement will be made in the January 19 issue of popular publication Weekly Famitsu, though no further details were announced.

At this point, we can do little but speculate, but given Compile He?art's seemingly endless ability to repackage the cheesecake universe of Nep-Nep and friends into almost any genre, we can only assume that the residents of Gameindustri are getting set to embark upon another colorful and goofy adventure.

The most recent title in the series, Neptunia: Sisters vs Sisters launched in Japan in the spring of this year, and is headed west next month �just in time for this new announcement, in fact. Convenient. Neptunia: Sisters vs Sisters will launch January 2023 on PlayStation and PC platforms, and will be the first title in the series since 2018's Super Neptunia RP??G to feature a fully localized English dub.

Lea upon layer

Kojima Productions has dropped another character teaser for its unannounced new project, ahead of whispers that tonight's Game Awards will offer ?up a full reveal of the next title coming out of the esoteri?c developer.

Much like its previous teasers, the new image depicts the shadowed face of one of the game's cast, emblazoned with a simple question "How Come?". The mysterious image follows on from the previous reveals of actors Elle Fanning (The Neon Demon, Maleficent) and Shiloli Kutsuna (Deadpool 2). While the identity of the new face is yet to be confirmed, fans are strongly convinced that it is that of Lea Seydoux, (No Time to Die, The French Dispatch) who has previously portrayed "Fragile" in Kojima Productions' Death Stranding.

Does this latest teaser confirm that the new Kojima title is a Death Stranding sequel? Ehh... Hardly. I know we live in an era where people seem to recognize Characters and not Actors, but it's just as likely that, if it is indeed Seydoux, Hideo Kojima simply wished to work? alongside her again. Either way, it probably won't be too much longer before we hear a little more about the project, as Kojima himself has been seen in Los Angeles, all but confirming the scampster's appearance at The Game Awards.

Yesterday, December 4 might have seemed like any other day, but lo, it was, in fact, Dragon Age Day, and to celebrate the beloved fantasy RPG franchise, Electronic Arts released a new teaser trailer for its long-in-development, long-time-coming sequel Dragon Age: Dreadwolf.

The cinematic preview, unfortunately, offers not a dot of gameplay footage, and in fact only runs a scant 60 seconds in length, (truly you are spoiling us). Still, it does give fans something of a re-introduction to the mysterious and wise mage, Solas, also known by his pseudonym of Fen'Harel �The Dreadwolf. Legend t?ells of a cataclysmic battle that saw Solas seal away both the Creators and The Forgotten Ones, preventing both all-powerful beings from ever again becoming involved in mortal ev??ents.

This event was known as The Great Betrayal.

Having all but vanished from existence sin??ce performing this almighty deed, it seems that Solas has returned, with a plan to bre??ak the seals and wreak chaos and destruction among the worlds. According to the dwarf warrior Varric Tethras, who narrates this preview, it will be up to the player's party to stop The Dreadwolf and prevent this frightening act of annihilation from ever coming to pass.

The new trailer is probably a little underwhelming to those fans who might have been expecting a little more for this year's DA Day, but it looks like the waiting with have to continue a little longer as developer BioWare continues its work on the epic sequel. Additionally, it is worth remembering that this week sees the arrival of the new animated series Dragon Age: Absolution, which will premiere on Netflix from December 9.

Game Awards reveal incoming?

Kojima Productions director Hideo Kojima continues his mischievous efforts to tease fans with iconography from his studio'??s still-unannounced new title. Following on from the recent reveal of two of its main cast members, Kojima has now offered up a selection of mysterious s??ymbols related to the project.

Kojima tweeted out a stark black image featuring three unique logo designs, all of which look like the type of emblems one might see on a flag or a company banner. Alongside the image, Kojima wrote a simple message "Start a new journey", once again shrouding his studio's next game with intrigue and mystery �as the Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding creator is wont to do.

While we still do not have a title for the new game, we do know that it will star Elle Fanning of The Neon Demon and Maleficent fame, as well as Shioli Kutsuna, who eagle-eyed readers might have spotted in Marvel's R-rated movie Deadpool 2. While there is no telling exactly when Kojima will play his hand and offer up more clar?ity on the new game, it should be noted that The Game Awards wi??ll take place next week �an annual event which Kojima has used frequently as an opportunity to offer updates on his studio's work.

Ain't n?o time like the present. I'd be very surprised if we don't hear more info come December 8.

No one can hear you scream

Tomorrow sees Supermassive Games launch The Devil in Me, the final "season one" episode of its celebrated Dark Pictures Anthology �And, in keeping with series tradition, the new title features a spooky teaser trailer for the series' next release, which has now been confirmed as sci-fi shocker Directive 8020.

The preview features a mission report from a lonely vessel in the vast reaches of the stars. Seemingly on a mission to find a new home for humanity, the team has apparently run afoul of some otherworldly intruder �with hints offered that it has the ability to replicate human beings. So, while it's very cliche for me to say so, this would suggest a sort of "Alien meets The Thing" vibe. Sounds wicked.

As a cool bit of trivia "Directive 8020" is an actual NASA directive. It is a directive issued for "Biological contamination control for outbound and inbound planetary spacecraft". This is all well and good on paper, but it ??will be interesting to see how it works out within the reality of some terrifying, shapes??hifting monstrosity. Let's just wait here for a while... See what happens.
