As advanced as video gaming is getting these days, there is something to be said about a trip down Nostalgia Avenue. Remasters from studios like Nightdive, as well as the return of classic games in collectible sets and downloads, keep us retro fans happy. However, if you're big into Tekken and would love? to p?lay the old games on modern systems, that might not be happening.

In a recent interview with The Gamer, producer and director Katsuhiro Harada �who's been with the series pretty much since day one �kind of suggests we won't get a Tekken "classics collection" any time soon.

Along with designer Michael Murray, the two discussed the ways in which fighting games age over the years. This is pretty prominent in 3D titles as opposed to 2D games like Street Fighter. Murray �translating for Harada in the interview �says how fans of 3D fighting games tend to "play the latest installment" and that 2D titles use sprite characters instead of polygons,?? which means "they don't seem to age graphically that much."

It should be said that this does not mean we won't ever see the older Tekken games come back as some sort of wistful collection. What Harada and Murray seem to be saying is tha??t a lot of fans of the?? series might not be interested in looking back across the years. True, the first game �released all the way back in 1994 �is rather unpretty when compared to the sleek, crisp, high-poly visuals of the latter entries, but there will almost certainly be a demand for the classics.

Murray goes on to say the following:

If it's a drastically different gameplay change, like a Tag 2 compared to 7 or 8, maybe that's something I would probably pick up and play for a little bit. Or maybe t??he Tekken Force mode or Devil Within or something like that.

However, he does caveat that by adding:

I wouldn't even see myself picking up Tekken 3 and playing against friends for an extended period of time. So yeah, there is a difference we feel between the?? 3D fighters and 2D fighters in that respect.

Again, this doesn't mean we won't ever get a Tekken classics collection sometime in the future. It just se??ems like, at the moment, the studio is probably not considering one. Lord knows, I'd love to be able to play the earlier games, especially the third one, which is still one of my favorite fighting games of all time. You didn't really need to know that. I just felt like sharing.

Tekken is a franchise widely known for giving players a high degree of freedom when the subject is customization. That, of course, remains true in Tekken 8, which results in the debut of both novel cros??sovers and cursed creations.

But did you know that it is possible to make high-quality custom characters while only using F2P items/options? To help you add even more personality to your main, here are 10 great custom characters/ outfits you can make for free in Tekken 8, as well as how to make them.

Ryu and Ken (Street Fighter)

To start with two of the most popular customizations in the game, you can fight while dressed as both Ryu and Ken in Tekken 8 by using the simple Gi and headband combinations below. If you want to go beyond and fully embody the world's most fa?mous shoto duo, equip the Sh??areen Short Hair on your Ryu and a blonde Lee Short Center Part Haircut on Ken.

• Head (Ryu only): Japanese Headband (Short) - Red. You can also use a white Japanese Headband (Long) for that Street Fighter Alpha look.
• Upper Body: Karate Top (Gloves) - Use a white Gi for Ryu and a red one for Ken. Keep in mind that Ryu wears red gloves while Ken favors black ones.
• Lower Body: Ripped Karate Bottoms - White for Ryu and a red pair for Ken.
• Shoes: No shoes.

2B (NieR)

For all Nier fans looking?? to showcase their love, you can dress Alisa, Lily, and Asuka as 2B by first equipping their Tekken 7, Tekken 8 Style [P1], and Tekken 8 Style [Lili P1] outfits, respectively. After doing that, simply paint your chosen outfit completely black and equip the below:

• Hair: Short Bob and Bangs - White.
• Glasses: Blindfold.
• Accessory (Optional): Naginata. If you have purchased the Ninja Pack DLC, use the Ninja Katana to equip a weapon resembling 2B's signature Virtuous Contract.

Leon S. Kennedy (Resident Evil)

One of the most known custom characters in the game, made famous by Reddit user shmick28, you can turn any male character into Leon by equipping them with the Short Curtain Haircut, a brown Aviator Jacket, a pair of black Slacks, and the Nicklas Boots. To finish the look, many also enjoy giving him the Shotgun Accessory. To recap, here's how to make Leon's signature Resident Evil 4 Remake look in Tekken 8:

• Hair: Short Curtain Haircut (Light brown). Make sure to change the color of your character's eyebrows as well.
• Upper Body: Aviator Jacket - Brown.
• Lower Body: Slacks - Black.
• Shoes: Nicklas Boots - Black.
• Accessory: Shotgun (Optional).

Ada Wong (Resident Evil)

As she is the only character in the game who wears a dress similar to Ada's, you can only replicate the latter's classic Resident Evil 4 look while using Nina. To do that, equip Nina with her Tekken 8 Style [Alternat??ive A] or [Alternative B] outfits before changing the color of your chosen dress to red. After doing that, just equip her with the Asuka Short Hair and change the color of her eyebrows and hair to black.

If you are not a Nina main, you can also cosp??lay as Ada with any other female character by pairing the Asuka Short Hair with the assemble below:

• Glasses: Nina Sunglasses - Black.
• Upper Body: Trench Coat or the Detective Coat - Light brown.
• Lower Body: Slacks - Black.
• Shoes: Nina High Boots (Stockings).

Terry Bogard (Fatal Fury/KOF)

Terry is everywhere, so why not bring him to Tekken? Taking inspiration from Reddit user bitboydz, you can make the Legendary Hungry Wolf by first changing your chosen character??'s hair and eyebrow colors to blonde (if needed) and equipping a red Baseball Cap. N??ow, go to Accessories and place a Straight Hair Extension B on the back of their head to simulate Terry's long hair before equipping the below:

• Upper Body: Biker Vest - Red vest, white shirt, and black gloves.
• Lower Body: Jeans - Any shade of blue.
• Shoes: High Top Sneakers - Red and white.

Satoru Gojo (Jujutsu Kaisen)

You can make two distinct versions of Jujutsu Kaisen's Satoru Gojo in Tekken 8, one featuring his The Battle of the Strongest outfit and one boasting his Hidden Inventory look. We will be focusing on the former, which can be made by selecting any character and then equipping?? them with the following:

• Hair: Leo Short Hair - White. Make sure to also change your character's eyebrow color.
• Eyes: Beast.
• Upper Body: T-shirt - Black.
• Lower Body: Karate Bottoms - White pants with a black belt. If using a female character or Leo, use either a white pair of Checkered Slacks or a white pair of Wide Jeans.
• Shoes: A black pair of Letter Shoes when using a male character / Loafers (Socks) when using a female character or Leo.

Power (Chainsaw Man)

You can make Chainsaw Man's Power in Tekken 8 by first equipping your chosen character with the Alisson Summer Medium Hair and then changing its color to match the character's. To make her horns, we will then use two Single Horns placed at the center of her head. Once you are done with the abo??ve, simply add the following to the mix:

• Eyes: Sunflower (Use Justify if you have acquired it as a paid-tier Tekken Fighter Pass reward).
• Upper Body: 3/4 Sleeve Shirt (Necktie) - Black necktie.
• Lower Body: Checkered Pants - Black.
• Shoes: Steve Snickers. Make sure to paint all of its colored portions with pink.

Sanji (One Piece)

The first custom character I ever made in the game, you can turn any male Tekken 8 character into Sanji by dressing them up with a Formal Jacket, a pair of Stripped Slacks, and a pair of Lead?er Shoes. Although no hairstyle in the game can come close to his, the Leo Short Hair, the Short Curtain Haircut, and the Asuka Short Hair will provide a similar look. If using a female character, pair your chosen hairstyle with a Blazer, a pair of Checkered Pants, and with the Loafers (Socks).

To recap, here are the items needed to make One Piece's Sanji in Tekken 8:

• Hair: Leo Short Hair / Short Curtain Haircut / Asuka Short Hair - Blonde.
• Upper Body: Formal Jacket / Blazer - Black with a golden dress shirt and a black tie.
• Lower Body: Stripped Slacks / Checkered Pants - Black.
• Shoes: Leader Shoes / Loafers (Socks) - Black.

Trunks (Dragon Ball)

Even if not as popular as the Super Saiyan Goku and Badman Vegeta custom outfits, Tekken 8 allows you to make a spot-on recreation of Future Trunks (also known as the best version of the character). You can make Trunks in Tekken 8 by equipping the following:

• Hair: Short Curtain Haircut - Light Purple
• Upper Body: Motorcycle Jacket - Matte purple
• Lower Body: Slacks - Black pants featuring a golden or yellow belt
• Shoes: Boots / Steve's Boxing Shoes - Golden

As revealed by Youtuber reinanuoni, you can also make a jacketless versi?on of Trunks by pairing the Jeans with Chain with a Tank Top, as using the latter will cause the top to be tucked in.

It is not an understatement to say that Tekken 8 features one of the most balanced rosters within the f?ranchise, as new patches are constantly released to address unintended behaviors and provide buffs and nerfs in equal measure (in most cases?).

But no matter how balanced a game might be, it is unavoidable that some characters will perform better than others. To help you be ready for the next battle, here's an updated tier list featuring all of the playable characters in Tekken 8.

• Before we start, keep in mind that a character's placement here should not discourage you from trying them out, as mastering your main and understanding the opposition will give you a fair chance no matter who you face.

Tekken 8 Tier List

Side-stepping away from the usual S to C format, we decided to divide our Tekken 8 tier list into six tie?rs, going from S+ to B —the latte?r given how I don't believe any member of the game's roster is bad enough to be considered C-Tier. You can check out our tier list below and a deeper dive into each tier by heading further down.

In the S+tier we have characters with no (or very few) bad matchups, courtesy of their versatility and ability to keep tabs on you at all times. Among them, Dragono??v stands in a class of his own, as even if we argue that Nina's amazing pokes and Jin's mix-up potential set them on equ?al footing, they pale in comparison to the suffocating pressure the White Angel of Death can apply on both mid and close range. His ability to crouch cancel also adds another layer to his already-filled toolkit.

In ??the S-tier, we have what I like to call S+ characters with weaknesses. That means that using them will demand taking a few risks, even if some cases —like King's�will produce a massive payoff. That also makes them considerably easier to punish when compared to our top tiers. An example of that can be seen in Alisa, who can be easily countered with well-timed sidesteps.

?In the A-tier, we have characters that are just as dangerous, but have way clearer strengths and weaknesses when compared to the above, which limits the??m to a certain degree and translates to a higher amount of bad matchups. The home of most of the game's cast, you will also find a good mix of technical (such as Lili, Steve, and Kazuya) and easy-to-pick-up characters here.

As the game's newest addition, it's important to highlight Lidia here, who earns a spot thanks to her ability to quickly close the distance (especi??ally with her excellent →→2 ?and running + 1) and perform a good array of mix-ups.

In the B+ tier, we have characters that albeit solid, lack versatility. That causes them to quickly become predictable, as most of their out-of-the-box options? and mix-ups won't offer a decent payoff. Some will also have gimmicks that can do more harm than good in certain instances or have in their large majority risky moves, such as Jun and Devil Jin respectively.

On B-Tier, we have characters that?? can still deplete your health bar in seconds but are considerably easier to punish even if the player decides to shift its pace, which can make them feel one-dimensional and cause them to be easily countered when faced with high-level players. The biggest example of this is Eddy, who although one of the biggest nightmares for new and intermediate players given his long strings and unholy lows, needs to dance over eggshells when faced with most matchups at a high level.

Tekken 8 may not be launching until January, but Bandai Namco ??annou??nced the 32nd and final combatant of the game's roster today. Ladies and gentlemen, enter the acrobatic Taido specialist, Reina.

Tekken 8 Director Kohei Ikeda took to the PlayStation Blog to detail how the character went from conception to reality. Bandai Namco also dropped a new Tekken 8 trailer today showcasing th?e mysterious fighter's skill set.

The trailer opens wi??th Reina sitting on a throne of sorts before the nickname "Purple Lighting" is emblazoned across the screen. You quickly see why the moniker is fitting.

We see flashy snippets of bouts versus Feng, Hwoarang, Jun, Xiaoyu, Leroy, and Lars. All of whom are easily dispatched with a flurry of flips and kicks. Series lead Jin Kazama th??en steps in to show the latest entrant some manners.

Heihachi's protégé

As this is a Reina trailer, that doesn't exactly work out for Jin. But it's here that we get a tease as to what Reina's place is in Tekken 8's story. Jin asks "Who are you...?" To which Reina playfully?? replies "Jin senapai. We finally have our chance to fight!" As the two characters begin to battle, Reina easily disposes of Jin with an impressive set of attacks and combos.

While Reina's heritage is a purposeful mystery at this point, it's worth throwing out there that Purple Lightning may be a telling nickname. The use of lightning is a bit of a calling card for members of the Mishima family of fighters. And when Kazuya enters the trailer after Jin, there's an obvious distaste for one of the overarching villains of the Tekken series. The duo even leads with what appears to ??be opposing lightning attacks as their bout begins. And th??ere may even be a tease of the new character possessing the Devil Gene that plagues some of the series' most important combatants.

In Kohei Ikeda's blog post, he indicates that Reina "plays a vital role in Tekken 8’s story". Ikeda also teases that the character "exudes a charismatic sense of evil, reflecting her character’s duality in both personality and fighting style." So it will remain unclear until the game launches wh?ich side of this fa?mily feud the character falls in line with (if any), but the implication definitely leans towards Reina being a potential missing heir of Heihachi Mishima.

With the recent reveal of the French fighter Victor Chevalier, and now Reina, we are at 32 confirmed characters. The Tekken series is renowned across the world, and Tekken Tag Tournament is one of the most memorable titles in the series.

Why is it so special? Well, you can switch characters mid-combo, giving the 3D fighting formula a nice kick in the pants; but funnily enough, it only took Namco two months to develop the game (according to Tekken steward Katsuhiro Harada).

“The project took 5 minutes to plan and only 2 months to develop (arcade version)," said Harada recently on social media. Harada says the game "made a considerable profit" because the cost was low. To add more context, Tekken 3 was completed, and then management at Namco "ordered [Harada] to release" a 3.5 version "within six months." At the time, the team was working on a prototype for Tekken 4, which was eventually released on the PS2.

Harada is now the Chi??ef Producer of fighters at the company, and the G??eneral Manager of the Original IP games projects at Bandai Namco.

The PS2 development of Tekken Tag Tournament got weird

As for the PS2 version, Harada notes: "The port to the console version had to be done in time for the launch of the PS2 due to the lack of memory on the [PS1,]" Harada said. "The PS2's specs at the time had too much room for drawing processing, and the 3D modelers were baffled by the number?? of polygons, which was even more than enough to place many mobs in the battle stages, so they elaborately created even the teeth in the characters' mou??ths."

Tekken Tag Tournament, as a result, had characters rarely opening their mouths because of a resolution problem. The PS2 fighting game is now 23 years old and released to glowing reviews. According to Metacritic, GameSpot gave a 96/100 score. "Graphically, the game has taken a very large leap, and the arcade version of the game looks downright? ugly by comparison," said the reviewer.

Looking forward, Bandai Namco will be releasing Tekken 8 early next year. It's the beginning of a new er??a without Heihachi in the picture. It wi??ll also include a new Arcade Quest mode.

The battle gets even more intense with the addition of Tekken characters in Brawlhalla. Now available in the game??'s store, you can pick each of the characters up for 300 Mammoth C?oins.

The news was announced on Tuesday during a live stream and complemented by a trailer the next day. Devil Jin, Nina Williams, and Yoshimitsu join this Tekken Brawlhalla crossover.

Devil Jin will be taking on the abilities of Zariel. He'll have his iconic gauntlets from the series and bring a unique bow as a secondary weapon. Each of the DLC Tekken Brawlhalla characters has some unique custom signatures as well. Yoshimitsu has a green-shaded blade and scythe, while Nina has her pistols and daggers, fitting with the characters. Yoshimitsu has Ji??ro's moveset, while Nina carries Lucien's.

Furthermore, there is an emote and additional Tekken Brawlhalla content to know about. The game includes:

• A Tekken arcade cabinet emote (120 Mammoth Coins)
• A Panda Slam knock out effect (240 Mammoth Coins)
• Kazuya Smart Emoji skin (20 Mammoth Coins)
• Xiaoyu Shrug Emoji skin (20 Mammoth Coins)
• Heihachi Thumbs Down Emoji skin (20 Mammoth Coins)

These Tekken ??characters have squared up with some prior DLC personalities of the game before.

This is also going to be yet another crossover between Tekken and Street Fighter. Fighters like Ryu, Sakura, Akuma, and others from Capcom's franchise are still available for purchase in Ubisoft's platform fighter Brawlhalla.

Even Negan, who was a guest character from The Walking Dead in Tekken 7, is somehow in the family-friendly Brawlhalla. 

There has been a long line of crossover characters as skins in the past. Kung Fu Panda's Po, Ben Tennyson from Ben 10, and multiple WWE stars like The Rock and John Cena are all present in Brawlhalla.

Katsuhiro Harada, the director of Tekken 8 and long-time veteran of the series, has responded to what he refers to as "silly threats." In a recent tweet, he hits back at online trolls with a pretty lengthy statement ??about what harassment leads to.

In a recent post on Twitter, Harada decided to give his take on the threats that have been coming his way online. One such example comes from a no-named user who says they will hit the director "with a Burning Hammer" (a move used by Tekken wrestler King) if Tekken 8 doesn't feature Eddy Gordo.

Harada makes it clear that, serious or not, such threats affect he and "everyone at FGC" (fighting game community). In a three-point post, he outli??nes what comments like these leads to. Number one being that security is bumped up, which "increases operating costs and i??ncreases the burden on the players" who attend.

Motivation also decreases

He goes on to say that "company founders, board members, and lawyers 'Don't li??ke to be intimidated'," and that he does not "adopt the views of those who use 'We' when expressing their opinions," as though such people represent all fans.

The end result is that studios simply have no motivation to carry on making games when threats are being made. Tekken 8 is highly anticipated, and the last thing fans want or need is for the team to not want to ke??ep working on it.

Yet still people persist. Immediately below Harada's tweet, one user says they will be spending their money elsewhere because companies like Bandai Namco easily forget the "narrow demographic who, mostly, go out of their way to afford" a "luxury product." Harada's response to this is a bit more... direct. So, as he's said before, don't ask him for shit.

Bow to the King

There are many great characters in the Tekken series, but few as recognizable as King. The jaguar-masked wrestler has been a staple of Tekken since the series' beginning, delivering high-flying, devastating destruction. And King is looking absolutely fantastic in the latest Tekken 8 gameplay trailer.

Bandai Namco has been gradually spotlight each Tekken 8 combata??nt with a gameplay trailer of their own, and King is the newest one in the arena. What more do I need to say? It's King. He's got powerful punches, leaping kicks, and chain combos with grapples that seem like they do some real, real damage. I spied a taunt of some kind as well, with King baring his chest, daring the opponent to take a swing ??and find out what happens. The result? Not good for them.

There's something electric about the way King plays that's just fun to watch. I'm normally not a grappler player, but King feels a bit more acrobatic than his throw-happy counterparts in games like Guilty Gear or Street Fighter. In the trailer, we can see the new Paul, with much less hair product than usual, getting absolutely demolished by King's knee. It's fa?ntastic.

Whether it's talking it up on the mic or delivering devastating destruction, King always brings it. If there's one constant in Tekken, as even characters like Jin start to change and adapt for?? Story Purposes, I'm glad it's?? King.

Tekken 8 is currently in development for the PlayStation? 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. No firm release date or window's been locked in yet.

Massive sneaks not included

PRIX, the artsy clothing company owned by influential NZ designer Esther Ng, has produced a line of clothing replicating the super-iconic "Player 2" look sported by King in Tekken 3 �Quite understandably, the line sold ??out almost immediately, because why? wouldn't it?

The famous fit �first sported by the mysterious grappler King II in Tekken's highly acclaimed second sequel �consists of a pair of blue/grey and leopard print track pants, and a matching blue/grey shirt, emblazoned with the declaration "Mishima Zaibatsu EVIL". King rounds off the look with a similarly colored variant of his Jaguar mask and a massive pair of white running shoes. Over the following years, the look has become something of a meme icon among the Tekken community.

Yesterday, PRIX launched replica designs of both the track pants and the shirt, both priced at $70. A form-fitting, long sleeve variant of the shirt was also a?vailable at $60. Of course, there was a wild rush on these fashion-forward items, resulting in a total sell-out of the pants, while most of the shirt inventory was also cleared out double-quick time. There is currently a waiting list available on site for all those hoping to jump on any possible re-stock?s.

In addition to the King gear, PRIX also released a line of T-shirts featuring renders of characters from Tekken 3. Again, these items are mostly long gone, with only Extra Small-to-Small sizes still available at the time of writing. You can check out the entire range over on the PRIX website.

There's ALWAYS The Next Battle

Bandai Namco has proudly announced that Tekken 7, one of the longest-life fighting games of all time, has smashed past an amazing 10 million sales. The announcement was made on the official Tekken Twitter, accompanied by an image of the entire cast at a very confusing dinner party, where people seem to float in mid-air, perspective is for the weak, and Kazumi brought a tige??r.

Tekken 7 initially launched in Japanese arcades in the spring of 2015 (yep), before the expanded ?and rebalanced Fated Retribution hit the coin-op market one year later. This edition of the game would launch on PC and consoles worldwide in the summer of 2017 as simply Tekken 7. Since launch, the development has rolled out a lengthy series of DLC updates, bringing with them new modes, mechanics, balance tweaks, stages, and, of course, characters.

Tekken 7 has also been renowned for its surprising list of guest stars, which include Fatal Fury's Geese Howard, Street Fighter's Akuma, Final Fantasy pretty boy Noctis, and the baseball bat-swinging Negan of Netflix series The Walking Dead. Tekken 7 has also introduced several all-new stars, including the terrifying Fahkumran, Polish prime minister Lidia Sobeiska, the tournament-dominating Leeroy Smith, and �how could we forget? �the divisive and simply amazing Lucky Chloe.

At The Game Awards last week, Bandai Namco offered up a new trailer for the incoming Tekken 8, which will see Jin Kazama step toe-to-toe with a Devil-infused Kazuya Mishima. While we are yet to see a full fight in action, developers have suggested that Tekken 8 will be an incredibly? aggres??sive title, which has some fans nervously fidgeting, determined to get a handle on exactly what mechanics will come into play for The King of Iron Fist Tournament's grand return.

Tekken fans got a fresh new look at Bandai Namco's exciting new fighter Tekken 8 during last night's Game Awards festivities. A new trailer off??ered up new hints on the sequel's highly dramati?c narrative, while also sneaking in glimpses of several combatants returning to The King of Iron Fist Tournament.

The preview sees Kazuya Mishima, now fully possessed by the Devil gene, running amok throughout the planet, raining destruction down on its populace. Standing against him will be the newly-reformed Jin Kazama, charged with the blood in his veins and the spirit of his deceased mother in his heart. The preview is a pretty melodramatic affair, as one would expect from the Tekken franchise �but I'll be darned if it didn't make the Tekken 8 storyline look like a pretty cataclysmic affair.

In addition to the plot details, the trailer also featured some returning Tekken acolytes, including the fiery pro-wrestler, King, the man-mountain android Jack, Bruce-Lee-alike Marshall Law, his running buddy Paul Phoenix and the far-too-handsome-to-be-a-special agent Lars. We also catch a sneak peek at Jun Kazama herself, suggesting that she too will be making her return to the ring. All of this was rendered in dazz?ling current-gen technology, offering visual splendor yet to be seen in the long-running seri??es. It's looking good. Damn good.

Talk about kicking things off with a bang �PlayStation began its State of Play live stream with the official reveal of Bandai Namco's next entry to its legendary 3D fight franchise, Tekken. Tekken 8 is currently in development "exclusively" for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/?S.

The very attractive trailer saw long-time rivals and troubled father-son duo Jin Kazama and Kazuya Mishima battle it out amidst a raging storm. In what appeared to be a blend of cinematic visuals and real-time gameplay, the footage sure looked like Tekken, albeit with an absolutely stunning new look.

"We are very excited to show the next generation of Tekken," said Katsuhiro Harada, chief producer at Bandai Namco Studios, in a press statement. "The team at Bandai Namco Studios has been hard at work to bring groundbreaking new features to Tekken 8, pushing the feeling of power in battles continuously further by harnessing the power of the latest generation of consoles. We can’t wait to show you more in the mont?hs to come!"

The curse of 0-2 beckons...

VSF??ighting, perhaps the UK's most prestigious fighting game tournament, will make its grand return this week for the first time in three years. Players from across th??e UK, Europe, and wider international communities will gather together once again in a bid to lay claim to bragging rights in some of today's (and even some of yesterday's) hottest scrappers.

The annual throwdown, which has run yearly since its inception in 2010, has been on hiatus since 2019 �impacted by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and its related lockdown rulings. The coming weekend will see the 10th iteration of the tournament, once again hosted by West Midlands FGC Electronic Dojo, return to the Millennium Point c??omplex in ??Birmingham for three days of sweet 'n' salty action.

"For a community that demands face-to-face competitive action, the ?last two years have been tough, so we're super excited to finally be back," said Electronic Dojo head Justin Xavier. "We're expecting incredible things for ??the FGC over the next few years and we hope to put on an event that signals the start of a great run!"

In addition to the main roster, various national FGCs will be hosting a series of side tournaments on Capcom classics Super Street Fighter II Turbo, Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike, Ultra Street Fighter IV, and fighting game tournament mainstay Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3.

And, if all that wasn't enough, then Bandai Namco's Soulcalibur VI and Sega's Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown will also be in attendance �as well as official demo pods hosting a build of the highly anticipated Street Fighter 6! What a lineup!

VSFighting X will unquestionably be the UK's biggest fighting game gathering in some time, with over 1000 people currently signed up in a competitive or casual capacity. Fortunately, Millennium Point is a large, mul?ti-level, spacious venue, so attendees should hopefully be well accommodated without the environment getting a little too close for comfort. This is sure to be a stellar weekend for Europe's fig?hting game community.

Of course, I will be in attendance, ensuring that somebody, som?ewhere, gets a free ride up the bracket.

One more round for Street Fighter V

Without hyperbole, it's ??safe to say that Evo 2022 was a huge success �perhaps one of the greatest editions of the Evolution Championship Series ever, in fact. Returning in a physical capacity for the first time in years, fighting game fans were treated to hundreds of exciting matchups, some quality presentation, a fistful of exciting reveals, updates, and announcements, and some amazing in-ring action.

And the good times are set to continue, as it has been officially announced that Evo will be returning not only to western shores in 2023, but also in the east, as Evo Japan makes its own grand stage return next spring. The Japanese iteration of the event will take place at Tokyo Big Sight in Odaiba, Tokyo, for the weekend of March 31 �April 2. While a full card is yet to be announced, Arc System Works' Guilty Gear Strive, SNK's The King of Fighters XV, Bandai Namco's Tekken 7, and Capcom's Street Fighter V: Champion Edition are all confirmed to be in attendance.

The appearance of SFV on the main card is something of a curiosity, given that Capcom is looking at a spring 2023 release for its successor, Street Fighter 6. The Industry's Chris Moyse is still betting on a February release, but one would imagine that such a launch date (March at the latest) would be just a tad too late to see the new fighter headline the Evo Japan card. Still, it's quite clear that Capcom will want SF6 out in plenty of time to qualify for next ??year's Evo USA, so the predicted date still stands.

Alright for Fighting

It's fair to say that the Evolution Championship Series, more commonly known as "Evo," returned in grand style this weekend. Evo 2022 saw Guilty Gear Strive, Street Fighter V, DNF Duel, Dragon Ball FighterZ, The King of Fighters XV, MultiVersus, and many, many other scrappers take to the stage and stream in global fashion, as playe?rs from all over the world gathered at Las Vegas' Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in their respective eff??orts to lay claim to being The Best of The Best.

And, against the backdrop of this utterly electrifying cacophony of violence, the biggest ??fighting game developers and publishers also took the opportunity to share with their fans exciting news, details, and u?pdates pertaining to their current, upcoming, and (in some cases), former fighting game releases.

And so, for those of you who couldn't quite handle the red eyes of staying up until the wee hours of the morning, here's a brief rundown of al??l of the fighting game news from this year's tournament, which s?aw a veritable banquet of character reveals, tech upgrades, new releases, and obscure teasers to keep the fists 'n' feet flying well into 2023 and beyond.

Guilty Gear Strive:

Yo-yo master and all-around cutie-pie Bridget will return today, August 8, as the first season 2 DLC character. The crossplay beta is scheduled for September??, with a launch tentatively planned for late 2022.

Developer Arc System Works is currently looking into reducing both the lengthy load times and the particularly frustrating server connection times on startup. In addition, GG Strive has surpassed the one million sales mark. You can check out the roadmap for season 2 here.

Street Fighter:

Capcom dropped an official reveal for veteran troublemaker Juri and newcomer Kimberly, who are both getting into gear for 2023 release Street Fighter 6. Check out their new trailer right here. We will? be looking at th?ese characters later today.

SNK:

The legendary arcade developer perhaps had the biggest and most exciting bevy of updates for its Evo 2022 presentation. Regarding The King of Fighters XV, SNK confirmed a second season of DLC for 2023, revealing a new team of characters from Samurai Shodown. Speaking of which, it was also revealed that SamSho itself will be receiving a rollback netcode update in spring 2023, which will hopefully breathe new life into a great, undersung ?fighter.

SNK announced that is working on a brand new Fatal Dury/Garou title, but no other info was revealed.

Tekken:

In a somewhat confusingly presented reveal at the end of the Evo 2022 Tekken 7 finals, Bandai Namco announced that the 3D fighter would be receiving a new tournament season in 2023, with a brand new balance update planned for August 17. A teaser, spotlighting a gorgeous new Kazuya Mishima model, seemed to be announcing... something. A lack of concrete confirmation, complete with a very confusing commentator response, has led to muddled community musings on whether this was Tekken 8, a Tekken 1 remaster, or something else entirely.

Dragon Ball FighterZ:

Not a whole lot to report for Arc System Works' brilliant, long-life tag fighter. Fans did not go away empty-handed, however, as it was announced that rollback netcode would be headi?ng to the anime fighter in the near future. The update will launch on PC, alongside all-new PS5 and Xbox Series X ports of the game, while PS4 and Xbox One fans should stay tuned for further announcements.

It was also announced that Lab Coat 21 is definitely the final DBFZ character. In addition, there will be no more balance updates going forward. DBFZ is, in essence, "complete".

Skullgirls: 2nd Encore:

Speaking on long-life fighters, Autumn Games' Skullgirls: 2nd Encore had a marvelous weekend, with lots of eyes on the stylish, enduring 2D fighter. Alongside new footage of the incoming Blach Dahlia, it was revealed that Skullgirls' all-powerful boss character, Marie, will finally be making her grand debut as a playable character on PC, console, and mobile platforms ?in 2023.

Melty Blood: Type Lumina:

Following the recent tease of new DLC characters Mash Kyrielight and Neco-Arc, Melty Blood director Kamone Serizawa released a six-minute video offering up further detail and explanation in regards to the Tsukihime fighter's upcoming mechanic changes, balance tweaks, and gameplay overhauls. These include a reworking of the Shield system, as well as changes to Dashes, Moon Drive, and combo mechanics. In addition, the dev team is looking into netcode ?improvements and an updated Replay function. You can ch??eck out the full video below.

MultiVersus:

At Evo 2022, Player First Games revealed a couple of neat tidbits for the upcoming platform fighter, announcing that Ranked Mode will officially launch in the delayed Season One update. In addition, two new DLC costumes were revealed, restyling LeBron and DC Comics hero Robin, and Bugs Bunny in his legendary Valkyrie costume from the award-winning short, What's Opera, Doc?

A re?scheduled date for season one remains unannounced.

Persona 4 Arena Ultimax:

The re-release of Atlus' very flashy anime fighter has received a rollback netcode update. It is available to download right now on PS4 and PC. This will come as a huge relief to P4A fans, as Atlus had previously seemed a little disi??nterested in the idea of implementing the much-vaunted? online technology.

Blazing Strike:

AkSys Games' retro-infused 2D fighter Blazing Strike has been hit with an?? unfortunate delay and will no longe?r meet its previously announced 2022 street date.

"It’s gut-wrenching to admit but Blazing Strike‘s release date has been moved back to spring 2023," tweeted developer RareBreed Makes Games. "However this ?delay will help polish the game to ensure the best game experience possible (maybe with cross-play), so I really hope you guys stick around a little longer."

Blazing Strike will now launch in spring 2023 on PlaySt??ation, PC, and?? Nintendo Switch.

Arcade 1UP:

The retro arcade cab developer announced its newest incoming cabinet, which celebrates Capcom's legendary 2000 release Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes. The new cab, which wil??l be able to pre-order from Arcade 1Up from September 8, will feature a grand total of eight? Marvel/Capcom fighters from the '90s and '00s.

Evo Japan will take place in Tokyo from March 31-A??pril 2??, 2023. Evo will return in summer 2023.

You wanna step outside?

For the first time in a long time, the greatest fighting game players in the world, (but not me), will descend on Las Vegas for the annual throwdown that is the Evolution Championship Series, more commonly known as Evo 2022. Over the next three days, the best of the best, (but not me), will lock horns in some of the greatest fighting games currently on the market.

From Tekken 7 to Street Fighter V, Skullgirls to Granblue Fantasy: Versus, and, the game of the hour, Guilty Gear Strive, we are promised hours of intense fighting action across three days, as each game looks to crown its champion for the current EVO season. In addition, we can expect news, updates, and reveals pertaining to some of the current and upcoming fighters. Who is headed to Street Fighter 6? What surprises does GG Strive Season 2 hold? Will I ever get the hell out of Ultra Gold?

Netflix has revealed a release date for its upcoming anime series Tekken: Bloodline �the animated adaptation of Bandai Namco's legendary fight franchise will hit the streaming service on August 18. Netflix also released a brand new trailer for the ser??ies, spotlighting some very familiar faces.

Tekken: Bloodline will follow the trail of teenager Jin Kazama, as rage and revenge feed his desire to strike down Ogre, the almighty beast that killed his mother, Jun. Shaped into a machine of exquisite violence by his grandfather Heihachi, Jin's newfound abilities will be put to the test in The King of Iron Fist Tournament �a competition that will pit the greatest warriors on the planet in brutal, unarmed combat. Of course, young Kazama is likely about to learn that those se??eking vengeance?? should first dig two graves.

The trailer features a real who's who of Tekken characters old and new, with mainstays such as Xiaoyu, Nina Williams, Paul Phoenix, Julia Chang, and Hwaorang locking horns with newer stars such as Tekken 7's top-tier DLC character Leroy Smith. This is, of course, not Tekken's first rodeo when it comes to anime, having taken a stab at animation in previous efforts such as 1997's Tekken: The Motion Picture and 2011 CGI effort Tekken: Blood Vengeance.

Personally, I'm not really a fan of the facial designs here. I also think some of the voices seem oddly unsuited to the ages/nationalities of their owners, but Netflix does have a decent pedigree in regards to video game anime adaptations, so I'll be giving the new Tekken tale the benefit of the doubt unt??il I'm finally able to check it out next month. Future plans allegedly leaked by hacker group

Bandai Namco has reportedly been the victim of a ransomware attack by a notorious hacking group. It is suspected that the developer/publisher behind brands such as Tekken, Elden Ring, Dragon Ball FighterZ, and Soulcalibur has had data pertaining to its future releases, DLC, and reveals leaked online in the wake of the attack. The news was reported by malware source code monitors vx-underground.

While some of the aforementioned information has surfaced online this morning, the full extent of the data obtained by the hacking group is unknown, and could contain the personal details of company employees, as well as source code for the company's current and u??pcoming releases, and potentially data pertaining to the users of Bandai Namco games. As for supposed leaked games, don't believe everything you see floating around.

This attack is the latest in a series of massive data thefts that, in recent years, have previously ransacked the digital vaults of various big-name video game companies such as Capcom, EA, and, perhaps most famously, CD Projekt RED, the latter of which lead to the release of the entire source code of smash hit Cyberpunk 2077.

Bandai Namco is yet to offer an official statement o?n the ransomware attack.

Ever ready for the next battle

Bandai Namco's foremost fighting title, Tekken 7, has smashed its way to an amazing nine million sales. The impressive number was revealed by Tekken producer Katsuhiro Harada on Twitter this morning �the eve of the fifth anniversary of the face smasher's home rel??ease.

Originally launching in Japanese arcades way back in 2015, it took two long years for the latest King of Iron Fist Tournament to make its way to PC and console platforms �by which point it had already seen a revamp in the form of 2016's Tekken 7: Fated Retribution. The home port of Tekken 7 was an immediate success when it finally hit the scene on June 2, 2017, and would go on to receive a slew of new characters, stages, modes, and exciting guest stars.

Clearly, Tekken 7 is still pulling in the punters, having sold a further million copies since we last checked in on its sales figures back in November 2021. With a fresh season of fighting game tournaments on the horizon, it looks like Jin Kazama, Nina Williams, Yoshimitsu, and the rest of the Tekken clan are not ready to bow out just yet. And why not? After all, it's a really rad game, and one of the premier titles in the current fighting game scene. With this milestone, the Tekken franchise has now shifted over 53 million copies sinc??e its inception, way back in 1994.

Tekken 7 is available now on PS4, PC, and Xbox One. Virtua Fighter 5 fans should note that Tekken-themed costume DLC will be dropping in Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown today, June 1.

What makes a Wolf a King?

Sega's Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown gets its cosplay on this week, as its roster of knuckle-flinging pugilists dons the garb of its fellow 3D fighting title, Tekken. The Virtua Fighter x Tekken costume collaboration DLC wi?ll launch tomorrow on ??PlayStation platforms, priced at $9.99 USD.

The previously teased DLC package features new looks for all 19 members of the Virtua Fighter roster, each of whom will be replicating the look of one of Tekken's iconic heroes and/or villains. So whether you want to see Akira Yuki as Kazuya Mishima, Aoi as Asuka Kazama, Vanessa Lewis as Master Raven or, of course, Wolf Hawkfield as Tekken's own giant swinger, King, then this fun new DLC has got you covered. If that wasn't enough, then you also have 20 classic Tekken hits added to the soundtrack, and the DLC even includes the option of switching out the Virtua Fighter U.I. with that of Tekken's King of Iron Fist Tournament, giving the entire playi??ng field a funky new facelift to match its cosplay action. Nice touch.

Of course, this is not exactly "Virtua Fighter vs. Tekken", which currently remains the stuff of a madman's dream. Fighting games have gotten pretty obsessed with the concept of guest stars and crossovers in recent years �collaborations that are far more likely today than they were back in the 1990s �so never say never. Still, Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown does not have the character accessories necessary to turn Vanessa Lewis into KoF's Leona Heidern (something that was possible in previous release Final Showdown), so ??let's get that back ?on the priority list, Sega!

Inquiring minds really want to know each and every legacy PlayStation game that will be included in the upcoming PlayStation Plus Premium plan. At $120 per year, it's the most expensive of the three subscription tiers, but sometimes, nostalgia gets the better of us. Today, there's evidence that PS1 classics Mr. Driller and Tekken 2 �and the PlayStation Portable's Ridge Racer 2 �will be?? playable with a PlayStation Plus Premium?? membership.

As shared by Reddit user the_andshrew on the subreddit r/GamingLeaksAndRumours, the PlayStation Network backend has references (in this case, Title and Concept IDs) pointing to Mr. Driller, Tekken 2, and Ridge Racers 2 �that's the Japanese name.

After the original post, Worms World Party and Worms Armageddon were discovered, too. All five sound pretty believable as PS Plus Premium picks. It's not much, but it's a start! We're also expecting multiple Syphon Filter games, based on recent ratings in Korea.

When will we hear more?

We shou?ld have a better idea of what to expect from the PS1, PS2, PS3, and PSP catalog in the coming weeks. Sony is rolling out the revamped PS Plus plan in Asia first, starting on May 23, with Japan up next on June 1, the Americas on June 13, and Europe on June 22.

I'm anxio??us to see how "global" the PlayStation classics lineup ends up being �will some games be overly locked down to certain regions? I hope not! Until Sony announces the full game list, I'd expect to see a lot more backend clues pop up like the ones above.

What are your must-have PlayStation classics? What would you actually sink time into in 2022? There's so much to pull from these platforms. And come to think of it, it's been way too long since I've touched my PSP; I never got a replacement battery after it bulged.

I hope third-party companies play ball in a big way. If Capcom isn't going to put out a classic Resident Evil collection on PS4 and PS5, well, maybe this is the p???ath right now.

Adequately Prepared to Rock

The organizers of the Evolution Championship Series 2022 (EVO) have released an in-progress breakdown of this year's game popularity. The Top 10, listed in order of competitor entries, currently sees Arc System Works' Guilty Gear Strive in the lead?? as the most-entered title of the main tournies.

As EVO returns as an offline event for the first time in two years, the organizers have decided that the schedule will be dictated by the popularity of the games on deck. So while Capcom's Street Fighter has long been the grand finale of the weekend, we could actually see something new round out the weekend's festivities �provided, of course, that Guilty Gear Strive, Tekken 7?, or any other release is able to pull in the most players.

Following on from Guilty Gear Strive's top spot, a very impressive showing is being put in by SNK's The King of Fighters XV, which currently sits at number three, even ahead of Bandai Namco tournament mainstay Tekken 7. The King of Fighters, while often in attendance, is rarely one of EVO's most popular franchises, and getting the spotlight on the team-based fighter could really help draw in new players and cement its st?atus.

NetherRealm Studios' Mortal Kombat 11 currently sits at number eight, behind niche anime fighter Melty Blood: Type Lumina and ArcSys' Granblue Fantasy: Versus. This is perhaps reflective of NRS' decision to call an end to supporting the title once it had ensured that all DLC had hit the market. While this would cause an expected drop-off for MK, seeing it resting behind cult anime scrappers and games that are years older (such as Bandai Namco's Tekken 7 and Dragon Ball FighterZ) is still surprising.

Fighting the good fight in ninth place is Autumn Games' excellent tag fighter Skullgirls: 2nd Encore, which continues to entertain hardened fighting game players with its divine visuals, an awesome score, and intense gameplay. With more updates and characters on the horizon, the cartoonish classic looks set to run and run into 2023. ??Kudos.

Feel the Elden Sting

We all know that the cast of FromSoftware's incredibly successful adventure Elden Ring is always up for a good ruck. But, for those of you who prefer your punch-ups a little on the, well, immediately responsive side, talented modder Ultraboy has got your back, having created a bevy of outrageously good character skins for Bandai Namco fighter Tekken 7.

As you can see from the video below, Ultraboy has outdone themselves here, creating ridiculously accurate character skins of heroes an??d villains who dwell in The Lands Between. Among those stepping up to the plate are Melina, Radahn Conquerer of the Stars, Malenia, Ranni the Witch (complete with Spirit Steed, Torrent!), and even Alexander the Jar Warrior! Like all of the best fighting game mods, each and every one of Ultraboy's creations fits into their new roles with simplistic ease.

Long-time Tekken producer Katsuhiro Harada addressed the mod ??himself, expressing a degree of concern over its amazingly authentic nature.

"Um ... Sure, Elden is a Bandai Namco-funded title, and I was the production general manager in charge of Elden, so it's not irrelevant ... it's [a] ridiculously well-made mod but plz stop it lol," said the producer on Twitter, before adding, "The only problem is that many people misunde??rstand it as official and ask us to support the problems it causes (I'm? tired of this wrong inquiry)."

While no one would deny Harada's commitment to both Tekken and its faithful community, the producer's comments might suggest that he gets a bit of a "talking to" whenever official-looking mods pop up in Tekken 7 �a fighter well known for both its crossover content and its fantastic character mod community. Given that Elden Ring is also a Bandai N?amco property, internal head honchos might have gotten a bit grumpy abou?t this particular fan project.

Given the noise raised by the fans over these mods, however, it is unlikely to stop anytime soon. For the curious, Ultraboy's Elden Ring mod is available for the PC edition of Tekken 7 right here. I ain't your dad, but make sure you know what you'??re doing befor?e you go poking around in your game files.

Brand new series to premiere later in 2022

It was a pretty neat weekend for fighting game fans. Not only did we get to see Guilty Gear reveals its newest DLC character, but we also got a release date for Nexon's DNF Duel, and the reveal of Tekken: Bloodline, a new anime adaptation of Bandai Namco's famous fight franchise, h?eaded to Netflix in 2022.

As you can see from the teaser trailer above, Tekken: Bloodline will spin the yarn of wayward youth Kazuya Mishima, who will put their terrible temper, eye for ambition, and incredible ma??rtial arts skills to the test when brought face to face with the father, the dangerous capitalist and martial arts experts Heihachi Mishima. In addition, we will also ?see the rise of Kazuya's own son, the morally-torn Jin Kazama, who will experience their own warfare on both a familial and spiritual level.

The short teaser also gives us glimpses of roster veterans such as King, Paul Phoenix, Jun Kazama, Ogre, and new boy Leroy Smith. This will not be the first adaptation of the Tekken story �there have been numerous animes, animated movies, and even a couple of piss-poor live-action ventures �but Netflix will no doubt be hoping that this take on the lore will make a huge impact on anime fans in general and Tekken fans in particular.

Tekken: Bloodline i?s currently in production. It is expected to premiere on Netflix later in 2022.

They're finally friends

Human sacrifice! Mass Hysteria! Dogs and Cats, living together! Sega and Bandai Namco have only gone and done it, they've only gone and seen two pioneering 3D fighting rivals finally shake hands. As revealed during this weekend's Virtua Fighter Cup Tournament �/em> Official Tekken crossover DLC is headed to Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown.

Now, before y'all lose your minds, we aren't talking about characters, (at least not yet), but Sega has revealed that Tekken costume content will be making its way to VF5: Ultimate Showdown at some point in the future. The video below spotligh?ts the gear in action, as Akira Yuki dons the gi and spiky chop top of Kazuya Mishima, while Lau Chan steps up to the plate as another brutal patriarch, Heihachi.

In a world of guest characters and figh?ting game crossovers, one has to admit that it is a shame we are not talkin??g fully-fledged guest stars. But the costumes here look pretty darn authentic and are something of a cause for celebration. Hopefully, we'll be seeing more outfits revealed down the line, how can we not have Wolf/King, Sarah/Nina, or Brad/Paul?

Even if this is not a full-on "Vs." crossover, it's nice to see the two?? '90??s rivals finally stand together.

The end of the road for a fine fighter

Bandai Namco announced, then released, two new editions of its fantastic 3D fighter Tekken 7. The Tekken 7 Originals and Tekken 7 Definitive editions are now available for purchase digitally on PlayStation, PC, and Xbox platfo??rms.

To get straight to the details, Tekken 7 Originals retails for $89.99 USD and includes the base edition of Tekken 7, the paid "Frame Data" feature, and 12 additional characters taken from Tekken 7's mammoth roster of post-release sluggers. Respectively, the Tekken 7 Definitive edition retails for $109.99 and �as the name suggests �includes the base game, the frame data feature, and all four season passes and their respecti??ve characters, stages, and bonus content. This includes customization sets, the Tekken Bowl mode, and some additional costumes, as well as pre-order character Eliza.

At this stage, this many years into the game's lifespan, interested parties should just probably just go all out and splurge for the Definitive Edition. That said, fighting game players who aren't already into Tekken 7, this far into its release, are probably pretty unlikely to suddenly drop three-figures to join the party at the final hour. Still, if you have been waiting for an "all-in"?? edition, then it seems that your wait is finally over. You can enjoy Lucky Chloe with the rest of us.

The titling of "Definitive Edition" would seem to imply that Bandai Namco is finally finished with Tekken 7, which has had a stellar run on the Japanese arcade scene, as well as in the global fighting game community since its original coin-op launch waaaay back in 2015. It's been a wild ride, which has seen the return of almost the entire Tekken cast, (some sporting radical new looks), and some wild guest stars, including KoF's Geese Howard, Final Fantasy's Noctis, and The Walking Dead's bat-swinging bad lad, Negan. We'll see what Bandai Namco has lined up for Jin an??d pals in the future.

Motohiro Okubo, one of the longest-serving producers at Bandai Namco, has announced that they are moving on after a 25-year tenure with the deve??loper/publisher. Okubo publicly announced the news yesterday via social media.

"It's been a while, but I will leave Bandai Namco Entertainment on August 31," said Okubo in the translated tweet. ??"Starting tomorrow, I will be working at a game company located in Shibuya."

"25 years ago, I joined Namco and met various people. I am grateful to all the people? I've met. Especially through Soulcalibur VI, I received enormous power from players all over the world... Thank you very much."

Okubo's legacy at Bandai Namco is defined by his work on excellent fighting titles such as 2015's Tekken 7 and the aforementioned Soulcalibur VI, which originally launched in 2018. Okubo has also worked on quirky, smaller-scale hits for Bandai Namco such as Pac-Man 99, wh?ich launched on Nintendo Switch back in April of this year.

While Okubo did not outright specify the ??developer he will soon call his new home, said studio will no doubt be exceptionally pleased with its new hire, given Okubo's long-term experience and resume of successful releases.

This won't be the most heartwarming story you ever see here, but it certainly warms my heart thinking back on it. Growing up, I never really got along with my siblings. I was the youngest of four (two older brother??s and one older sister) and because of that, I was constantly picked on. I had to toughen up quick as we would often get into verbal and sometimes physical altercations. I won't go into detail here, but ?things got kinda crazy here and there.

After all the fights and hurtful things said, it was video games that ultimately brought me closer to my two older brothers. We shared plenty of moments of split-screen multiplayer madness in GoldenEye 007, passing of the controller after one of us died in Super Mario Bros. 3, and having a blast playing beat 'em ups like Streets of Rage and Double Dragon together. Sometimes we'd brag o??ver petty thoughts of who was better at whichever game??, but more often than not, we simply enjoyed the experience together as brothers.

My favorite memory of this would be playing Tekken 3 with my oldest brother.

I was in Jr. High at the time and he was fresh out of High School. He'd destroy me over and over again as at that time, the PlayStation was in his room and I had very?? limited playtime on it. He was good with almost every fighter on the roster but King was his main. He knew all the wrestling combos King had in his arsenal and he'd simply ragdoll me almost every time. Still, he'd challenge me again and again and I would never say no to a challenge from my brother. I was best w??ith Bryan and Hwoarang but was still no match for him.

Then he got a job working with my dad at a moving company. I took this as an opportunity to get better. After school and sometimes on the weekends, he'd be bu??sy working. So I figured out how to sneak into his locked room and practice while he was away.

I practiced with a number of characters but got really good using Bryan, Hwoarang, Jin, Heihachi, Lei, and Paul. I learned what combos I could, but mostly just got good at learning most of the moves and learning when to best use them. Timing was key and I practiced my ass off to make sure I could keep him at bay so he couldn't use those wrestling combos with King on me. I acted like I wasn't in the mood to play for weeks so I could get in as much practice as?? possible. Then came time to challenge him.

He was being his usual cocky self but was happy to answer?? my challenge. We started the game up and picked our fighters. Of course he started with King, so I started with Bryan. I did what I set out to do. I kept him at distance and with Bryan being the much better striker, I picked up the victory pretty easily. He was surprised, said it wouldn't happen in the 2nd round and it didn't??. I still beat him, but it was a much closer match. Of course he wanted a rematch and I gave him plenty of them with both of us switching between characters. I'd say we were pretty even with him winning some and me winning some.

Af?ter so many brutal beatdowns, I could finally keep up.

It was a great time for both of us and my brother?? was shocked but also realized that I had been practicing. Afterwards, he didn't say the words but he looked at me like a proud brother would and smiled. It was the first time he ever really acknowledged me in a positive way and coming from the broken home that we did, that honestly meant the world to me. I'm happy to report that we share a much stronger bond these days, and even though we're halfway acros??s the country from each other now, we keep in contact often and catch up on all the crazy that life brings our ways.

He's coming to tilt you into a volcano

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's latest DLC fighter has entered the fray, and it looks like Kazuya Mishima is taking no prisoners. The longtime Tekken fighter has some potent moves, and the CPU is making full use of them to dunk hapless contenders deep down into the bottomless pits of Smash.

The CPU in Super Smash Bros. has been surprisingly capable over the years, and Ultimate has been no different. But with the recent addition of Kazuya, the CPU has become all the more terrifying. Players have been posting clip??s of the computer doing some really, really scary stuff.

Competitive Super Smash Bros. player even pit two CPU Kazuyas against each other to see the outcome, and ev?en against itself, ??the computer delivered.

This has, of course, led to CPU Kazuya becoming a new meme online, with jokes about signing him to a team and questioning how power??ful a high-level K?azuya amiibo could become. A novelty Twitter account named "Level 9 CPU Kazuya" has even sprung up.

It's all pretty fun to watch, especially because Kazuya seems like a really solid addition to the roster. I haven't played as him yet, but I've played some Tekken over the years and it's really impressive how he's retained a lot of that Tekken spirit in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. In true Sakurai fashion, we got to see a huge 40-minute rundown of Smash Ultimate's newest DLC member, Kazuya Mishima, alongside of an "imminent release" announcement. Like clockwork he was released late last night, as part of t?he s??econd Fighter's [Season] Pass, or individually for $5.99.

If you want a full recap of how h?e works you can find that here, but as ??is tradition, a patch also came out to accompany the DLC release.

You can find the full notes here, as well as all of the fighter balance changes here. The general notes (below) are basically an advertisement for DLC, while the balance changes are the real preamble for how Smash Ultimate is going to play for a bit.

It's not quite as Earth-shattering as some previous patches, but there are a decent amount of changes to Marth (generally increased power?? and extended launch distance for several attacks), Mii Brawler (increased power and attack range), Mii Swordfighter (increased power and attack speed), Mii Gunner (same deal), Bayonetta (increased attack speed, increase slow for opponent for down specia?l), Banjo and Kazooie (increased launch distance), and Pyra/Mythra (who are probably the most nuanced in terms of changes), who cutely get their own breakdowns.
