We just learned via The Hollywood Reporter that director James Cameron has joined the board of directors at Stability AI. Yes, the same James Cameron who once made a movie where the heroes prevent an evil AI from d??estroying the world.

Stable AI is the company behind the Stable Diffusion text?-to-image genera?tive AI model. That's the tech responsible for turning words into unintentionally nightmarish images that only the bots on Twitter can enjoy.

Cameron has always been at the forefront of using the most advanced digital tech to push filmmaking forward, he said, “I’ve spent my career seeking out emerging technologies that push the very boundaries of what’s possible, all in the service of telling incredible stories,�?he said. “I was at the forefront of CGI over three decades ago, and I’ve stayed on the cutting edge since. Now, the intersection of generative AI and CGI image creation is the next wave. The convergence of these two totally different engines of creation will unlock new ways for artists to tell stories in ways we could have never imagined. Cameron's move has been met with a lot of derision online. Some have c??ome up with insults as devastating as "Not even Michael Bay would've done that", once again proving you cannot replace humank??ind's ability for sass.

This isn't the first time James Cameron has made the news for his connection with AI technology. He'd recently been put on blast for the subpar 4K remasters of titles such as Aliens and True Lies, remasters he'd doubled down on by a?ccusing its critics of caring too much.

You can now enjoy the irony of having lived to see Cameron leading a company aimed at slowly destroying the world not with cool lasers but via awful content and the ridiculous a?mount of unnecessary carbon emissions that it requires.

Judgment Day will have to wait. Publisher Nacon has announced that Terminator: Survivors' E?arly Access launch has been delayed to an unknown date in 2025.

Terminator: Survivors, by Studio Milan, was originally slated for an October 24, 2024 release. In the announcement, Studio Milan CEO and Creative Director Marco Ponte cites the need for just a bit more development time. I'll choose to ignore the fact that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is arriving on October 25. Wait, forget that last part!

This deferral of the game’s release was a tough decision to make, however we believe that this additional time will enable us to ensure that our vision of the post-apocalyptic world of Terminator meets the expected level of quality. Terminator: Survivors lets you live the dream of surviving among robot friends

The open-world survival game places you in a post-Judgment Day apocalyptic future where you must eke out a living among wandering death machines. Terminator: Survivors lets you work together or with friends to gather materials and construct ?a base for your resistance buddies. Naturally, Skynet's walking death bots are ??everywhere, but you can fight back using tactics, stealth, and guns.

There is a story to experience as well. According to the details, you can learn about the origin of Judgment Day and follow an "unexpected storyline and try to change humanity's fate."?? Whether or not the game ties into the time-travel plot isn't known, but we'll likely experience something of the sort.

Netflix has released some new information about its upcoming Terminator anime series, now formally christened Terminator Zero. Alongside a batch of awesome first-look images, we also have the series' official release date and a brief synopsis of its story. Here's everything we know about Terminator Zero.

When will Terminator Zero be released?

Barring any final-hour delays, Terminator Zero will be released on August 29, 2024. It's a date with an interesting in-universe tie-in, too. Within the Terminator franchise, August 29, 1997, is "Judgement Day," the day the artificial intelligence network know??n as Skynet is prophesized to achieve?? sentience and unleash nuclear Armageddon upon the world.

What is Terminator Zero about?

Like most other entries in the Terminator franchise, the story of Terminator Zero will involve time travel. The series' protagonist, an as-yet-unnamed soldier, travels back in time to 1997 to protect Mal?colm Lee, a scientist working to create a "benevolent" AI designed to protect humanity from Skynet.

Of course, the soldier's job won't be easy, as Skynet has ??sent an "unrelenting assassin" to the past to kill not only Malcolm, but also his thre?e children. Amidst all this, Malcolm will grapple with the complex moral ramifications of designing what boils down to a digitized child soldier, who will bear the brunt of Skynet's malevolence.

Who is making Terminator Zero?

While Netflix will produce Terminator Zero, the series will be animated by Production I.G, the studio behind many iconic anime films and television series, including Ghost in the Shell: Stand-Alone Complex, Psycho-Pass, and Haikyu!!. The series will be directed by Masashi Kudō, who served as the director for the insanely popular anime adaption of Tite Kubo's Bleach.

Mattson Tomlin, who also wrote the script for The Batman: Part II, will write Terminator Zero's script. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Tomlin stated that the series will treat every movie in the Terminator franchise as canon, meaning that plenty of Easter eggs and nods will be peppered throughout Terminator Zero's eight episodes.

A new Terminator game has been in development for some time, and you'll be able to play it later this year. Well, in Early Access at least, as Terminator: Survivor ?will be hitting Steam on October 24. Check out the "Aftermath" trail??er below.

If you haven't heard of this �?and I must admit I was a bit ignorant of it �?Survivors is an open-world ga??me that's set after Judgment Day in James Cameron's sci-fi universe.

The above trailer doesn't give a huge amount away. We see two scavengers, nervously seeking ??out supplies. With the world in such turmoil, the threat of a Terminator is ever-present. We then get to see the reflection of one of the skeletal robots as it scans the two fuel-seeking humans.

100% rustproof

Terminator: Survivors is being developed by Nacon, and is pretty hot off the heels of the publisher's previous game based on a popular sci-fi franchise: RoboCop: Rogue City. Much like the latter, Rogue City offers a new?? lease on li?fe for the iconic film series.

Whether Survivors will be as well received remains t??o be seen at this stage. An open-world game where you're fighting and surviving against killer robots? Sign me the heck up.

The "one last thing" at the Nacon Connect 2022 showcase was a new Terminator game for PC and consoles, and while we don't have a name yet �?or anything concrete, footage-wise �?we do know this is the "first survival game set in the Terminator universe."

Nacon's Terminator survival game is in production at Nacon Studio Milan, rather than Teyon, the team behind Terminator: Resistance, which some fans have rallied around.

Open-world survival in the wake of Judgment Day

"The game takes place in a post-apocalyptic open world and features an original story that builds on the events of the official films," according to the studio.

"You play as a group of nuclear apocalypse survivors fighting to stay alive in a time perio?d between Judgment Day and the creation of John Connor’s resistance."

With little to grasp yet, this is a harder sell than another '80s-icon-turned-game, RoboCop: Rogue City, which shared the first look at gameplay d??uring Nacon's str??eam.

After playing way too many survival games, I can imagine what this game could look like �?and really, I feel like it could go either way. Genre, scope, and budget are all top of mind when it comes to licensed games like this. And to me, this team is a wildcard. I am vaguely into the idea of fighting for life in an intimidatin??g machine-dominated world, though.

Are you open to a Skynet survival game, or have you had your fill of Terminator tie-ins by now? Come to think of it, I've gone pretty deep in the Sega Genesis and SNES libraries over the years, but I've never touched RoboCop Versus The Terminator. Hmm.

Arcade aficionado Arcade1Up has revealed the next classic replication cab joining its steadily growing range of old-school coin-ops. Heading to a hunched-shoulders game room near you soon is Midway's smash-hit rail shooter Terminator 2: Judgment Day, based on the blockbuster Jam??es Cameron movie of the same name.

Released in 1991 amidst an absolute torrent of Terminator 2 merch, Midway's rail shooter takes the action of the excellent sci-fi sequel and replicates it in ??a side-scrolling, rat-a-tat-tat format. One or two players battle through the dilapidated Los Ang??eles of 2029, before eventually traversing time and space to the early 1990s, where our heroic T-800s are tasked with protecting humanity's future savior �?the floppy-fringed John Connor, portrayed in the movie by Edward Furlong.

Terminator 2: Judgment Day is, honestly, a pretty brain-dead and completely skill-less shooter, but it does feature a great sound package, which includes digitized speech from actors Arnold Schwarzenegger, Edward Furlong, and Robert Patrick as the terrifying T-1000. The cabinet is also splashed in the delightful nostalgic T2 aesthetic �?a tone and style that absolutely defined 1991, when T2 mania was running absolutely wild.

Fun fact: if you hit start without ??inserting a credit, Big?? Arnie says "No way, Jose."

The original Terminator 2 cabinet featured fixed gun emplacements, much like classic Taito release Operation: WOLF, while the Arcade1Up cabs will instead feature wired lightguns, complete with sound effects and force feedback capabilities. The Arcade1Up cab will also feature a selection of interviews and making-of features, as well as a lighted marquee, optional riser, and anchor strap. Unlike previous Arcade1Up cabs, however, it appears that Terminator 2: Judgement Day will be a "one-game" cabinet �?so it won't even include Midway's utterly atrocious 1995 Aerosmith shooter Revolution X.
