Confetti is raining over him

Season 4 of The Boys has set up the final stretch of a long ride that fans have been on since 2019. This season has made several stumbles, but finishing with a bang, Season 4 pulls itself together with an episode that? makes most of those blunders feel worth it in the end.

Sharpening dull edges

This episode isn’t without its duds. Getting the weakest section out of the way, Frenchie and Kimiko finally get together, but after a season-long will-they-won’t-they that felt distracted at best. So much of their progress was spent obsessing over Frenchie’s Colin-focused melodrama instead, boiling down to a discussion about self worth that was so overdue it felt too on t??he nose at this point. It’s been obvious that Frenchie and Kimiko were always going to get together. Despite that, it has been wonderful to watch Kimiko grow as a character, becoming significantly more interesting in ways that maybe should have occur?red sooner.

When the action of this episode kicks off, Hughie figures out that the Annie he has slept with at least 20 times in 10 days is a shifter that stole her likeness. When reunited, Annie rakes him over the coals for it. This brings the show to a frustrating head it’s been building to all season long. The handling of Hughie’s character and sexual assault is baffling, because the show gets it wrong with him even when it consistently gets it so right with Annie. This is exacerbated by the fact that it is actually nice to see Annie gai?n some edges. It’s fun to see her lash out, especially after going through hell and showing some gr??it- breaking her own bones in order to escape containment.

//www.reddit.com/r/TheBoys/comments/1e8p0s4/the_way_some_of_yall_are_acting_over_an_outburst/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

There’s a chance that the show is taking the chance to show nuanced growth. After all, the onus was on Hughie to recognize tha?t the depressed Annie he’s been with all season would never just put on her Starlight costume or propose out of the blue. It opens up the floor for a discussion about how all of these characters have their baggage, and it would benefit them to addre??ss it sooner. Annie eventually comes through with lighthearted humor, but the episode still frames Hughie as if he was in the wrong for the situation occurring in the first place when the situation was the Shifter’s fault. Seeing Annie's rage adds to her complexity, though. and we get to see more of it focused on characters that deserve it.

Both The Deep and the Supe-shifter run into Annie-sized beatings, and it’s some of the most satisfying stuff in the pair of episodes. This is especially the case after having seen The Deep's connection with Ambrosia go terribly wrong. At first it? was a lot easier to look at the octopus-themed shenanigans as just more of this show's wackiness, but given some thought, if Ambrosia was swapped in for a human to go over the same kinds of beats, The Deep's relationship would look significantly more horrific. Ideally, Season 5 will be able to deliver more thought provoking social commentary, without some of the confused messaging surrounding Hughie that often risks coming off as a double standard.

When the gang fully reconvenes, Hughie organizes a meet up with Neuman that ends with bloodshed, thanks to Butcher. Although Victoria Neuman has been thrilling to watch, fans have pointed out that this is the consequence of her character’s hubris. Victoria is indecisive at every step of the way, always searching for the better deal instead of trusting her gut and following through on a plan. By the time she begins to do that, her sins catch up to her. Butcher has no trust left to give to her or any other Supe when Victori??a is ready to try fighting for the good of everyone else again.

Although Butcher has been scorched-earth the whole time, the season had its fun by making him genuinely consider the benefits of a more humane approach. We see the ways it could pay off, all of the guilt on his face is there in the confrontation between himself, Grace, and Ryan. However, if Ryan can’t live up to the expectation Butcher and the world have for him, th?en none ??of this is worth it to Butcher. Butcher turning his back on Ryan is a parallel that shows the unfortunate similarities he bears to his own father. It’s ironic, since Ryan fled Homelander to escape the threat of abuse. The changing tide, including Homelander’s decision to out Neuman as a Supe on TV, does get him what he wanted: Supes are deputized under martial law. He’s left with few worthwhile allies though, until the return of Sister Sage.

Sister Sage is the GOAT

//www.instagram.com/p/C8hvowxtBOD/?img_index=1

When Sister Sage was set up this season, she was teased as a threat that was on an entirely new level to the villain-of-the-season types that have been dealt with so far. Outside of Homelander, some of the most interesting antagonists The Boys have faced have been Stormfront and Victoria Neuman. While they have been capable of cornering and taking out the main cast, the systematic approach that Sage has displayed was so much more terrifying to watch play out??. Although she occasionally indulges, Sage has been less focused on violence, and more on making sure the walls close in.

By stoking the fires of nationalism and rousing an existing cult ready to act on Homelander’s orders, Sage has used the normalized threats that were hinted at seasons ago. Back then, Stormfront talked about “White genocideand mentioned that when it comes to fighting a culture war, people “just don’t like the word Nazi even if they liked her ideas. That was when the world of The Boys was still one that allowed villains like Homelander some form of a moral high ground, compared to the alte??rnative. He looked baffled as Stormfront attempted to indoctrinate Ryan into her ideologies, and even Ryan looked confused.

Since then, with examples like Gen V showcasing the effect of the “Supe Lives Mattermovement, we've seen an increase in the way everyday people, as well as CEOs and politicians, are willing to use instrumental violence. Applied with a collective ideology, it’s more of a threat, and that’s something that Homelander no?w dep??ends on to succeed. When Sage shows a way forward, Homelander is now more than willing to take her up on it. The trust that people place in Homelander is new, and it's Sage who made sure he got there by inciting riots, using Annie and everything she represents as a scapegoat, and laying low once things got tense.

It seemed like the show was eating its own foot and diminishing that threat after Homelander got rid of her for being an embarrassment at Tek-Knight’s party. Regardless, Sage swoops back in for phase two. The audience gets to see exactly what makes her a villain: she doesn’t care who gets hurt, and she likes doing all of this stuff to test her limits. The best example of her plan working is Ryan; by building him up as an idol to rival Homelander, he’s been taught to appreciate th??is shifting ??culture. It benefits him, powerful people ?still c?ater to his ego after he kills, and even if Homelander is terrifying, Ryan doesn’t look so bad stacked up next to him.

This is part of why Grace and Butcher lose Ryan. Everything that The Boys have been working towards falls apart because of the dynamics people like Sister Sage have been encouraging. Here, The Boys shows its hand: it doesn’t matter if Sister Sage survives next season or how well she can handle a fight, she represents the success of an ideology. If ??she dies, the world is set up to ensure that her plans follow through anyway. That’s a lot scarier than Homelander just killing everybody.

What comes after a coup?

While the world itself shifts, we see Ashley really regret that she didn’t take A-Train up on his offer to skip town. Wherever A-Train is right now, he’s avoiding the fight that awaits him if he ever shows up again. It doesn’t seem like this is just the en??d of the road for him, though. With characters like Soldier Boy showing up in the post-credits scene, it feels reasonable to expect that characters who have been out of the ring may come back? for one last fight.

Additionally, it would be interesting to see Queen Maeve return to help these characters out when they're ready to finish the fight. Although she’s gone off to find her happy ending, and A-Train has done similarly, it would make sense for these characters to feel obligated to help? the main cast out of a sense of duty.

In the last couple of scenes, everything goes so horribly for The Boys that it leaves us hoping that something or someone will help them out. Hughie, M.M., Frenchie, and Kimiko are all taken care of while Butcher and Annie are put to task. It’s possible this will force them to work together in season 5. Neither of them would enjoy doing it, but characters have worked through more unlikely odds before. Hopefully, since characters like Firecracker are still there, Season 5 spends some time fleshing out the way that she serves as a narrative foil for Annie.

Season 4 also walked a nice tightrope with Sam and Cate, who fans love to hate. They were introduced to the audience of the main show at a glance and then having them come in clutch for one of the biggest turns of the episode. From now until Season 5 drops, many people are going to be wondering what Cate told Frenchie to do. If Cate’s instruction was something?? along the lines of “forget herâ€?regarding Kimiko, it’ll likely have consequences that last for the length of season 5. This could be a new way for Frenchie and Kimiko to find each other, literally as well as emotionally. Hopefully that time is spent doing something more interesting than creating new angst for Frenchie around the heaps of murder he’s partaken in.

//youtu.be/Us1pTdQ7fUg?si=2EHt4_AuZY3UnRzD

The pacing has fixed itself and it feels like season 4 was biding its time the whole way though. Over on The Backdrop, Darren Mooney suggests that the pacing issues we’ve been watching play out are in fact a reflection of the uncertainty that Season 5 would truly be the show’s last. It feels that if much of the filler was trimmed, Season 4 might have been the last one instead. If this show was paced the way it was all the way back in Season 1, we might have been finished by Season 3, even if Hideo Kojima wanted it to go on forever. Despite all of its Season 4’s flaws, this episode represents the sharpness The Boys is best known for. Here’s to hoping th?at Season 5 provide??s that same consistency.

The last two episodes of The Boys have been a display of some of what the show does best- making entertaining bloodbaths out of situations?? that are complex and nuanced. Despite that, they have also demonstrated some of the biggest flaws that the writers just can’t seem to shake this late into the g?ame.

Content warning: This p?iece discusses issues of assault and non-consensual sexual acts.

For all the fun that episode 5 of this season brought, it didn’t get much done. The plot with Hughie’s dad isn’t relevant to the main plot, but it was a great way to show how Hughie has become more pragmatic. In addition, he’s come to accept life in a world where Compound V is normal. After being injected with V by Daphne, Hugh Campbell Sr. went on a rampage that parallels the way A-Train would literally run through people. Ironically, the flipped circumstances were used much more for shock and comedy this time around. That drives some of The Boyscentral messaging home, though. The life?? Hughie used to lead is similar to everyone else’s in-world. People die all the time for n??o reason and some never get justice.

The rest of the team went to hunt for the virus that was tested on Godolkin University students, and it sets up a long sequence at Stan Edgar’s old home. A lot of this demonstrates just how effective the virus would be against a regular supe. This part of the episode feels like a lull, but it leads to Butcher grabbing Neuman’s boyfriend and forcing him to come up with a way to get more of the virus. It’s just as much of a distraction to the audience as it is to Neuman about what’s going on under the surface. Based on the way this specific story has flowed, it feels like its main purpose may be fleshing out the stakes in the world to contextualize any threats coming in season 2 of Gen V.  Further on, this side plot allows ??Butcher to have his Tyler Durden-esque reveal alone in the following epis??ode.

Forgetting to stick the landing

Hughie draws the short stick in episode 6, and he’s forced to infiltrate and bug Tek Knight’s home at a party. As the boys find ways to listen into the way politicians and shareholders wan??t to shape the future, Hughie gets whisked away by Tek and forced into his dungeon. What unfolds after this point allows for some fun jabs concerning Tek’s political affiliations. It also leads to sequences more uncomfortable than a?nything covered in Herogasm. This episode raised plenty of eyebrows from its audience, and it’s more than warranted.

Image via Amazon

Hughie has suffered a lot. Entire articles have been written pleading The Boysâ€?/em>â€???writers to give him a break. While that is something the audience has gotten used to, sensitive issues like assault isn’t. Scenes where people’s autonomy and consent are violated that populate the comics have been altered or cut entirely. In m?ost cases, this has seemed like the right call. Annie’s assault in the beginning of the series was changed so that it could fully point out the gravity of what’s taking place in the narrative.

Hughie is forced into what is implied to be hours worth of non-consensual sex, and it’s mostly played for laughs. Rightfully, fans were upset by the fact that H??ughie hasn’t been treated with the same grac?e as Annie. These scenes are used to catalyze Hughie’s acceptance that he’s dealt with his father’s death so poorly that he barely addressed it. The way that these serious issues are covered by a show that has handled them with more tact has left fans confused. Many believe that this is especially evocative of material from? the comics that should have been left on the cutting room floor. Even from a narrative standpoint, the scenes with Tek Knight and Ashley don’t really advance the main plot.

//twitter.com/kittischmitti/status/1809306257632706593

These scenes leave a sour taste around one of the best scenes of this season- A-Train gets a save that feels right out of a Spider-Man movie. A confrontation with Sister Sage leaves M.M. fixated on what the direct consequences his actions have, and continue to have, on his daughter. It’s brutal manipulation on Sage’s part, some of her best work yet, and it triggers a panic attack for him. When A-Train gets called in to drop him off, a kid spots him. The look of wonder on his face and the pride A-Train earns here is heartwarming. It’s also far too optimistic for this show, which feels l??ike it’s cementing that A-Train’s secrets will come out in the open and he’ll be killed next episode.

Not so scary anymore

When Sister sage recovers, she makes even bigger slip-ups this episode, and it only took being a little brain-dead. After taking a bullet, Sage spends the episode without her greatest ability, and it kind of kills all of t??he aura she had as a threat. Sage has mentioned that if she’s stabbed in the heart, she dies, but when taking a blow to the brain, it’ll grow back. Her rapport with Homelander may be gone after she failed him when he needed it most. Neuman stepping up and helping out may have been prompted by Sage, but had she been ready to explain their plan, it could have saved Homelander the humiliation. Homelander’s anger has been more hair-trigger than before lately. Unfortunately for Sage, this could lead to her meeting a similar fate as the original Black Noir did last season. Even if she doesn’t, we now know for sure that most of the boys could handle her in a fight.

Although Annie and Kimiko don’t get a huge amount of time, what we do see of them shows us even more of their growth. Kimiko is forced to think on her feet again when she breaks her phone. The scene where she uses book titles to convey meaning is fluff, but it feels like the humor of The Boys at its best. It’s goofy, and it balances lightheartedness during a serious situation. Annie’s scene with Firecracker feels like she’s becoming a bit more complex. Wh??ile she apologizes to her again, it feels like much of what she’s saying is genuine. It’s equally possible that she’s forced herself to become craftier after accepting that her enemies won’t be any kinder.

Image via Amazon

During all of this, it was easy to ask: where’s Frenchie? The funny thing is that the show has already answered this question. He’s in jail. Frenchie turned himself in for the murders he’s been agonizing over, but it doesn’t feel like anything has come of this. He hasn’t made this decision at a pivotal moment where it would be more?? dramatic to. The boy?s seem to be functioning just fine without him (aside from a couple hiccups in their mission). We haven’t seen any of his experience in the prison, outside of rejecting Kimiko’s request to see him. It feels like the character has been long-finished and nobody knows what to do with him anymore. Normally when they’ve served their purpose, a character gets killed off, but that hasn’t happened either. Maybe Frenchie will come into use later; perhaps they’ll use him to create a stronger version of the virus.

We have a pacing issue

This ambling around with some beats brings us to a larger issue with the show’s pacing. In Season 1, it took two episodes from Hughie to transform from a meek, apprehensive everyman into someone who is ready to kill when he’s cornered. One of the best parts about that short arc where he kills Translucent is how believable his?? feelings and motivations are in such a small window of time. Now we’re in Season 4 and he’s been backed into so many corners, where taking the same actions have been just as—if not more—viable, but he has refused.

Eventually, by episode 4, he takes the initiative and grows. The problem is that because of all that’s happened between those changes, it feels like it’s taken seasons to get there, regardless of whether the key moments of his development have actually been prompted over similar amounts of on-screen time.&nbs??p;

That’s not to say that Hughie hasn’t developed. Watching him grow and own that his m??otives are influenced by the killers he spends time around has been a highlight of the season. In Episode 6, he mentions Frenchie and Kimiko to his mother, and she’s bewildered at what comes out of his mouth. This is likely why Hughie and Butcher have spent so much time apart this season. Their on-screen chemistry as a duo is incredible, but the writers appear aware that their dynamic was risking getting stale. Spending time this season inverting their philosophies is smart. As Hug?hie grows a backbone, Butcher loses his grasp on reality and with that, his self-assuredness.

Image via Amazon

The Butcher twist is fun, but the more time spent after the fact, it kind of begs the question of whether it needed to be a reveal, since we already knew he was hallucinating Becca. Was it just to shock the audience? Is that really worth it in a show that used to prioritize quick and entertaining exposition? Things like Season 1’s Ezekiel convention moved the plot while telling us about Annie’s background and Homelander’s current opinions. Here, ep??isodes take the same amount of time and do less. Elements like that twist have begun to feel like padding. They make for what could be a very interesting Season 5, but why are we waiting?

What's next?

A lot of this season feels like a buildup, and perhaps it will pay off. But pacing media this way runs the risk of making those standalone build-up installments less satisfying. Although The Boys S3 finale was great, it was panned across the board for being underwhelming in the same ways that Season 4 spends some of its time dawdling. It makes it reasonable to ask whether Season 5 will deliver. Will The Boys spend their time on Compound-V fueled wild-chicken/goat/????dad chases, or will they finally get to the point and knock Homelander down?

Season 4, Episode 4 of The Boys has brought all the simmering ingredients introduced this season ??to a roaring boil. Here, we see just how bleak Butcher’s future is looking, Hughie and his dad are a powder keg waiting to ignite, and Sister Sage has full hold of the reins. The odds are more stacked than ever against the main cast, and that’s a great thing.

Note: spoilers for S4E4 of The Boys will follow from here on out.

New directions for old characters

Some of the develop?ments that come out of this episode have taken full seasons to build up to. It’s nice seeing all of that payoff as the characters begin to enter a new status quo. Getting some of the smaller stuff out of the way first, Butcher asks M??.M. to take care of Ryan, assuming he’ll die before they take out Homelander.

A realistic view on things coming from Butcher is sobering, which sets up how dire his situation is after having abused Temp-V. There's a ?chance that he might survive this or next season, but if he does, Butcher will be a drastically changed character. A version of Butcher that is willingly emotionally vulnerable does seem to indicate that his character arc may be over, or near it, which makes my hopes for his survival low.

Screenshot via Prime Video Philippines YouTube

Next, there’s Frenchie and his relationship with Colin. So far, Frenchie has played a much smaller part in the season than usual, but his actions have had a ripple effect in two directions. The destruction of his relationship with Colin may cause Annie to reassess who she's spending her time around. Even though she has refused to partake in the same amount of violence as the rest of the crew, it might be rubbing off on her. ??Next, and maybe more importantly, Frenchie’s actions have allowed the space Kimiko needs to follow her own focused plot this season. That growth happens with Hughie, which is refreshing because it gives the audience something different from the same beats Kimiko has retread with Frenchie? for the past two seasons.

In contrast to Kimiko learning that she isn't necessarily a monster because she has Compound V flowing through her blood, this season appears more interested in showing us why that's the case. In her encounters with the Shining Light Liberation Army, Kimiko shows a reluctance to fight and the capacity for empathy, something that appears to be tortured out of the people hunting her. What makes this more interesting is the reveal that shows that she was one of the people doing that torturing. It forces us to ask whether Kimiko can gain some kind of closure here, even if it's not her fault that she was put into those situations. Does the good she's be??en doing recently outweigh all of the horrible from before?

Hughie evolves

Kimiko is forced to communicate more effectively under pressure with Hughie, who may not understand her quite as well as Frenchie might. Butcher and Annie have been closer to him, in many ways. It's interesting to see Hughie explore?? his personality outside of those pillars. As Hughie is forced to fight, he does something he’s shown the potential for but rarely delivers on: he believes in himself. In many other parts of this series, Hughie has relied on Annie, Butcher, and even Soldier Boy to do the dirty work. But in a do-or-die moment, he grows. Fighting back and winning on his own, Hughie proves here that he’s more than just the team’s tech guy.

Screenshot via Prime Video Philippines YouTube

Hughie also understands the toll that comes with taking a life, look??ing con?flicted after doing so. Perhaps he's reflecting on moments like when he tells A-Train that all of this started because he killed Robin. This has been Hughie's motivation for the entire series so far. In season 4, the show finally displays a self-awareness about the fact that it's becoming an old excuse.

If it were all just about Robin, Hughie would have stopped earlier. Despite that, other and frankly more interesting things have propelled him forward, things like the sour taste of betrayal that comes from realizing that Neuman is a Supe. This is connected to Hughie's pursuit of justice for Robin, but with Neuman, Hughie was find?ing a way to move on. He was making new friends and holding the moral high ground over Butcher. He's had no space to recover, been forced into new fights, and now we see how the series lead deals with it. It's part of why Hughie tried Temp-V last season. It's also why he co?uldn't cope with the thought that his father might die, and that everyone besides him has come to peace with that. That's what leads him to ask a favor from A-Train, dredging up more of Hughie's past.

Screenshot via Prime Video Philippines YouTube

Incidentally, A-Train has been reaching his peak as a character. His redemption arc at times seems too good to be true, and anyone who enjoys predicting where things go next may be worried for his safety. A-Train's story this season has raised an alarming number of death flags. A-Train has been following a much more optimistic looking path than characters usually end ??up on. By making allies with people like Hughie, Ashley, and M.M., it shows us that, on theme with Kimiko's current arc, perhaps he doesn't need to right every wrong. That's impossible for him now. Maybe a more feasible task is putting in an earnest effort to be better, and to listen to the sense of guilt that's been pushing him down this path. Good deeds rarely go unpunished in this show, but if A-Train is killed, likel??y by Homelander or Sister Sage, at least he might finally go out as a hero.

Our biggest threat so far

Some of the biggest shifts of the se??ason follow. During the premiere of Fire?cracker’s #Truthbomb, she owns up to an affair with a boy while calling out Annie for acting holier-than-thou. This leads to Annie flying into frame and giving her a beatdown. The direct consequence of this is that Annie’s massive online influence has diminished, a calculated attack by Sister Sage. Until now, Annie’s reputation was somewhat of a safety net for The Boys to fall back on. Sister Sage knows this, which is why it’s just the first domino of what is likely to be a master plan.

Screenshot via Prime Video Philippines YouTube

If Sister Sage is able to get her way, she poses one of the biggest threats The Boys have seen?? so far. Homelander has always been the guy who can just kill the team if he gets the chance, but Sister Sage is systematically dismantling the group and leaving them open for it. Thanks to Sage, th??ey’ve never been weaker.

There are seemingly limitless possibilities to what Sister Sa?ge can do, which is what makes her so interesting in comparison. Homelander does what he does best this episode. While it is great, it's also not as terrifying as it used to be, because he's done it before and Homelander has so many flaws. Sister Sage is the smartest person in the world. Because of that ??fact, it's difficult to shake the feeling that eve?rything happening this season is a part of whatever her plans are.

Even things like Annie getting hits in on Firecracker at all, seem to happen because Sage wanted them to. She was feeling (justifiably) petty after Firecracker called her "uppity." If that's what she'll do over a minor slight, what about Homelander, who's trying to trap her? Sage has gone as far as to manipulate Homelander, sow??ing distrust between him and Ryan. That could work as a fail-safe if either of them becomes more of a threat to her. At every step, Sister Sage is out-thinking the entire cast. Because of her track record for flawlessness so far, if she's made a mistake, it's hard to see where that is.

Screenshot via Prime Video Philippines YouTube

Sage has had her eye on the rest of The Boys for a moment, and it's equally difficult to see where they can earn a win against her. It's a rac?e for information, and that's something this crew has been notoriously bad at getting right, choosing to wing it in most situations and barely scraping by. There are some wildcards here, like Butcher and his new unknown power, Hughie's newly Compound-V-powered father, and Annie's growing abilities. However, it's currently more reasonable to expect Sage to find some counter to all of these things.

What comes next?

This is also why, personally, the scene where Sister Sage gets The Deep to lobotomize her was more uncomfortable than watching Homelander terrorize the workers that raised him. Again, we are now familiar with the carnage Homelander has wrought. It's nothing new. Sage's lobotomy was gruesome, and leaves more questions than ?answers. Could her penchant for escape be her downfall?

Where previous episodes this season of The Boys have dragged, every scene in this episode flows into the next, tying everything up in a satisfying knot and leaving us with much to think about. Eventually, we’ll be seeing Cate and Sam from Ge?n V show up as the newly crowned “Guardians of Godolkin. There are many things this could mean for Hughie, Butcher, and the rest o??f The Boys, but few of them are good.

The Boys Season 4 has soared in terms of viewership on Prime Video, with a 21% viewership increase as compared to Season 3, per Amazon (via TheWrap). Amazon has also stated that The Boys Season 4 is now the second most-viewed Prime Video season within four days of its premiere, only behind Reacher Season 2.

Moreover, The Boys Season 4 is currently the top show on Prime Video in 160 countries, with 60% of the audience from regions outside the US. It has also been revealed that Brazil, UK, and India are the regions where The Boys is performing really well.

Interestingly, the viewership record has arrived after the vitriol this season has received so far on Rotten Tomatoes. The Boys Season 4 has the lowest audience score of its season so far on the platform, as highlighted by Screen Rant. This season has a 50% audience score with an aggregate 2.9 rating out of 5, at the time of writing. However, The Boys Season 4 carr?ies a solid 95% score from critics on Rotte??n Tomatoes.

While there are several negative reviews from users who feel that the show is not living up to its standards, other negative reviews are review-bombs that stem from allegations that the show has gone ??“woke

Eric Kripke, the creator of the show, responded to this, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, by saying: “Go watch something else There are now negative rev??iews on Rotten Tomatoes that actually refer to Kripke’s comments as well, highlighting that the statement did not sit ?well with some fans.

One of the users who gave The Boys Season 4 half-a-star in their review wrote, “The creator of the show wanted people to go watch something else, I will obey./p>

Regardless of the review-bombing, the viewership records tell a different story. The Boys is officially set to receive another season which will be the final chapter of this dark take on the superhero genre.

The Boys Season 4 is set to premiere tomorrow, June 13, but the conversation has lately been about Season 5. After recent confirmation that The Boys Season 5 will be the final season, showrunner Eric Kripke has now revealed that heâ€?™s act??ively trying to figure out a way to bring in Jared Padalecki for the show’s next season.

Kripke told Screen Rant in a recent interview that he has been texting with Padalecki about this, and he would love for “Jared to come in and do a guest spot on the show. For those unfamiliar, Jared Padalecki is known for playing Sam Winchester in Supernatural, the TV show directed by Eric Kripke.

There have been several instances of actors from Supernatural appearing in The Boys, with the most obvious example being Jensen Ackles portraying Soldier Boy. Ackles and Padalecki shared the screen in Sup??????????????????????????ernatural as its protagonist b?rothers for 15 seasons.

The Boys showrunner added that he wants to bring Padalecki to the show “not just because it's fun to bring Supernatural characters onto the show, but just because I love working with people I love and if I have an opportunity to bring family back and work with family, I'll take it and I have a lot of actors from that show who have really become family./p>

The sentiment can be backed up the appearances we’ve had in The Boys by actors who have previously worked in Supernatural. Christian Keyes, who portayed Michael in Supernatural, was seen as Nathan Franklin in the show. Jim Beaver, who portrays the US Secretary of Defense in The Boys was Supernatural's Bobby Singer.

Moreover, Jeffrey Dean Morgan is set to play a crucial role in The Boys Season 4, and the actor has portrayed John Winchester in Supernatural, the father of Dean and Sam Winchester.

So, there is a clear intent from Kripke to find a way for Padalecki to show up in Season 5, but the showrunner said during the interview that the team is in “very earlystages for Season 5, and he does not have “a character in mind quite yetfor Padalecki. He concluded on a hopeful note by adding: “But I'm aiming towards it and I'm just keeping in rough touch with him so that hopefully our schedules do line up./p>

When suggested if Padalecki could play a character related to Jensen Ackles' Soldier Boy so that they share the scree??n once again, Kripke said he liked that idea.

Justice is coming, Call Of Duty style

The official Call Of Duty Twitter account has just announced Homelander, Starlight, and Black Noir some of the stars from the hit Amazon tv series The Boys /em> will come to Call Of Duty in Season 4 (of the game, not the show).

To the cheaters out there mad at COD for rolling out the red carpet to three actual superhumans a week after applying new and? hilarious anti-cheating measures, this isn't that big of a deal. Homelander, Starlight, and Black Noir have some neat cosmetics, but they join the season as regular operators. Don't expect anything like the ultra-powerful Thanos mode or Goku's Kamehameha from Fortnite.

Instea?d of abilities such as flight and super strength that we see some of the heroes use on the show, they'll only come equipped with a custom loadout an?d with some cool finishing moves.

The three heroes will each feature in a different bundle that costs 24?00 COD points. Each bundle will feature a lot of cosmetics and three tracer weapon blueprints. Still, be warned: they'll only show their true powers when using their finishing moves.

But that's not where The Boys' influence over COD Season 4 Reloaded stops

Instead of having a few heroes completely dominating everyone in Warzone, Season 04 Reloaded will borrow a few perks from the show and make them available for everyone. The show is now supplying COD with "Temp V", a dubious drug that wi??ll help any operator gain superpowers for a while.

Upon consuming the drug, operators will rando?mly gain one out of four special abilities.

  • Charge jump allows players to jump across the map. They receive no fall damage, and deal area damage to any enemies in close proximity.
  • Electric Shockwave will allow players to cast electricity blasts that will damage both enemies and enemy vehicles.
  • Laser Vision will allow players to temporarily gain Homelander's most feared power. They will get to levitate and laser-fry enemies but at the cost of becoming vulnerable to backfire.
  • Teleport will allow operators to immediately move in whatever direction they're facing (think Dishonored's blinking). This is great to either get the jump on enemies or to escape a fight. This ability seemingly has no downsides.

Temp V will be present in all Warzone playlists and DMZ,?? but not in ranked play.

Sta?rlight's bundle is scheduled to come out on July 12, Homelander's will arrive on July 16, ??and Black Noir's is coming on July 20.
