At this point, it's safe to say that people are ready for The Elder Scrolls 6. While we're likely still years away from playing it, it feels as though Bethesda will start putting more stock into the Skyrim follow-up now that Starfield is out.

With that in-mind, a recent interview with MinnMax suggests that some elements from previous TES games will make their way into the sixth installment. Former Bethesda employee Bruce Nesmith who was lead designer for Skyrim has said that elements that go as far back as Oblivion could be "further developed" for The Elder Scrolls 6.

That particular part of the interview begins ar??ound the one-hour 1?3-minute mark.

//youtu.be/JDP8QvuXn0g?t=4385

However, Nesmith is not certain what these aspects will be. He does add that we will find his "fingerprints" in the next installment? based on how the games have been designed in the past and his impact on the series.

It's a kind of magic

Nesmith then goes on to say that TES6 will likely have traces of the magical elements from Skyrim. So if you like the magic system in TES5, ??that's something to perhaps look forwar?d to (maybe).

Bruce had been involved with the Elder Scrolls franchise since 1996's Daggerfall, eventually becoming Senior Game Designer for Bethesda. He was also a quest designer for Fallout 3. If you've played a Bethesda RPG since the mid-90s, you'll have experienced Nesmith's input. These days, he's a fantasy novelist. His first novel, Mischief Maker: Norse Mythology Reimagined, was released in 2021.

As for The Elder Scrolls 6, we're still pretty much in the dark. Nesmith's comments seem largely speculative, so it's best not to take what he says as the final word in what the elusive Skyrim follow-up will be like.

Even though it was announced over five years ago, it appears The Elder Scrolls 6 is still a ways off. And even then, PlayStation 5 gamers might not get a chance to play it. According to newly released court documents from the Microsoft FTC case, The Elder Scrolls 6?? will be released only on Xbox and PC and is not expected ??until 2026 or later.

This isn't exactly shocking news, though it is disappointing on both fronts. Just last month Phil Spencer claimed The Elder Scrolls 6 was so far away that it was too early to even think about platforms. Apparently, that was just all talk though, as it looks like the decision has already been made to make it an Xbox console exclusive. The decision to give Starfield the same treatment has already yielded positive results for Microsoft. We may be heading to an era where t??his is ?simply the new normal.

//youtu.be/OkFdqqyI8y4

I used to be an adventurer like you. Then I went exclusive.

It feels like not long ago we were closer than ever to a time of no more exclusives. PlayStation exclusives were coming to PC, and?? more games were launching as cross-platform. Now it feels like we've taken one step forward and two steps back. It's hard to tell who exactly the winner will be here, but it definitely won't be the players.

Time-wise, 2026 would put The Elder Scrolls 6 release at around eight years after being announced. For comparison, the time between the announcement and release of Starfield was just over five years. However, both titles were technically announced on the same day, so c?learly they wouldn't have the same release.

Also, it was just last month that Bethesda confirmed The Elder Scrolls 6 to be in early development. If developme??nt had just started, even 2026 is probably no??t a realistic timeframe.

Either way, there ?are still years until we see the open-world RPG release. Hopefully, by then things have changed and we can see the popular franchise remain on all platforms. A guy can hope, right?

Once the hype around Starfield dies down a bit, discussion will once again turn to the next Elder Scrolls game. Nearly twelve years after Skyrim, the next installment is now finally said to be in the early stages of development. As such, Xbox head Phil Spencer has been? asked whether the elusive RPG will be an Xbox exclusive.

In a recent interview with Bloomberg Technology, Spencer is asked a question about exclusivity. In particular, journalist Caroline Hyde is curious about what platforms The Elder Scrolls 6 m??ay be on. Spencer answers by saying that the?? company looks at things "on a case-by-case basis."

//www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q-yYmq35E3I&t=83s

He adds t??hat Xbox wants to make sure that the games made by the studio are "available in many different places." However, he specifically mentions the Xbox consoles, PC, and "via cloud," with no mention of any other platforms.

Too early to say, really

It kind of sounds like Spencer is circling the bit when it comes to The Elder Scrolls 6 and potential exclusivity. Consider that Starfield be??ing an Xbox Series and PC game only seems to be working out nicely for the tech giant.

As such, it's not above the realm of possibility that Xbox may keep Skyrim's follow-up for its own platforms. However, we can't say fo?r certain, but Spencer's response to the question does seem rather vague.

As for when it's actually coming out, speculations suggest it might be another five years until we see TES6. By that point, we'll be on the next g??eneration of consoles anyway. Great. More money to spend.

Given the current hype surrounding Starfield, you're never too far away from a discussion of all things related to Bethesda, including The Elder Scrolls 6. We all know that it's likely years until the Skyrim follow-up sees the ??light of day, but at what stage of development is it currently at?

According to an interview on the Spanish website Vandal with Bethesda's head of publishing Pete Hines, the studio has actually started work on TES6 proper. Right at the ?very end, when asked about whether the upcoming RPG was still in the concept phase, Hines confirms that develop?ment on the game is underway.

//youtu.be/OkFdqqyI8y4

However, there's always a proviso. He goes on to say that it's in "early development" (according to translation by GameSpot) which pr?etty much confirms what many of us suspected any?way.

Probably won't hear much else for a long while

A little further up in the interview, Hines makes it clear that while there have been people working on TES6, the focus for Bethesda right now has been Starfield. As such, it's possible that resources may shift to the long-awaited Elder Scrolls game once the latter is out?, though that's pure specula?tion on our part.

It's nice to know that developm??ent has begun, even if it's still in the early stages. However, there's a good chance we won't hear much about it for a while. But then, we have sort of grown accustomed to that by now.

It's been five years since the studio announced The Elder Scrolls 6, originally showing the above teaser footage at E3 2018. We've heard pretty much nothing since, but hopefully things will move a little quicker soon after Starfield's launch.

Among all this Starfield talk, it's easy to forget that The Elder Scrolls 6 is even a thing (maybe). It's been five years since we were treated to a brief tease of the next install??ment in Bethesda's flagship series, and the face of the studio seems to regret being too hasty with things.

In a recent interview with GQ, Mr. Skyrim himself, Todd Howard, says he me have been a bit too quick to announce TES6, adding, "I probably would've announced?? it more casually."

//youtu.be/OkFdqqyI8y4

Of course, the interviewer asks whether Howard can divulge any further details about The Elder Scrolls 6. Naturally, the director isn't saying anything, though he does say that the upcoming RPG does have a codename. He also says that he and the team want the next TES game to "fill that role of the ultimat??e fantasy-world simulator."

So when is it co-

When's it coming out, I hear?? you ask? Again, nobody can really say. As a sidenote, Howard does make a comment about how he wants to keep making games, with?? no plans to retire any time soon. He even likens his career path to Nintendo's own Shigeru Miyamoto, who's now in his early 70s.

It's at this point that the GQ interviewer offers their own speculation, saying that The Elder Scrolls 6 may not be out until Todd Howard reaches 60. Given that his Wikipedia page has him down as being either 52 or 53, this means TES6 might still be a good seven or eight years off.

Obviously, that's just speculation. Although recent rumors suggest the long-awaited follow-up to Skyrim might be at least five years away. In any case, Bethesda definitely seemed to have done itself ??a d?isservice by announcing it so soon.

Possibly next-gen?

We're already painfully aware that Bethesda is taking its sweet time with The Elder Scrolls 6. However, there may be longer to wait still, as even the Head of Xbox Gaming, Phil Spencer, admits he doesn't even know what platform it's going to be on. There may be a few? more years to go until the anticipated sequel ever sees the light of day.

And exactly how long are we talking? Well, according to journalist Stephen Totilo, (reporting on the Microsoft/Activision court case), Spencer npted that Elder Scrolls 6 could be "five-plus years away." If true, this would put the elusive Skyrim follow-up on track for a 2028 release at the earliest. As such, it could mean that the long-awaited Bethesda RPG is actually on deck for gaming's next generation.

//twitter.com/stephentotil??o/status/1672314548995366935

According to a recent report from The Verge, Spencer did say in a 2021 interview that it will be exclusive to Xbox, though it doesn't necessarily mean it will be this generation's Xbox. When questioned about this today, the executive doesn't recall ever making such a statement. And so, it stands, we're not really any closer to understanding what's happening with the next Elder Scrolls installment. A couple of years ago, Todd Howard said the game was still in early d?e??velopment.

All we can really hope is that once Starfield?? is r??eleased this September, then Bethesda will be willing to spill a few more beans. We can assume that, for now, the studio is just keeping its cards close to its chest.

Still a ways out

With Starfield confirmed and a date set, The Elder Scrolls VI has still been absent since its E3 2018 reveal. Today, Bethesda Game Studios' Todd Howard g??ave an update on where progress is at with it??s other big RPG.

"It's good to think of The Elder Scrolls VI as still being in a design [phase]," said Howard in an interview with Telegraph. He also comments on how the team is testing the Creation Engine 2, which will power both Starfield and The Elder Scrolls VI.

"It's like a new tech base," said Howard. "The vast majority of our development work is on Starfield right n?ow but everybody works on ev?erything so the projects kind of intertwine."

Bethesda has been managing some expectations for updates since the E3 2018 reveal of The Elder Scrolls VI, and since the project is set to launch after Starfield, the wait's going to take a little bit.

It sounds like working on Starfield, and the Creation Engine 2 alongside it, will help the team get an idea of the work ahead. "Every game will have some new suites of technology so Elder Scrolls VI will have some additi?ons on to Creation Engine 2 that that game is going to req?uire," Howard told the Telegraph.

Starfield, meanwhile, was locked in for a Nov. 11, 2022 date during Xbox and Bethesda's joint E3?? media showcase. It was also confirmed that it would be an Xbox and PC exclusive, and of course, coming to Game Pass.
