A recent surge in permanent streamer bans in Dead by Daylight has highlighted the actions a? group of hackers is allegedly taking to show that there's a problem with the entire cheating and banning process within developer Behaviour Interactive's walls.

This all started with a well-known Dead by Daylight streamer called Griff, who received a permanent ??account ban out of nowhere. After being told the decision was final, fans kept pushing Behaviour Interactive to investigate further, and the developer realized that it had banned the streamer due to a hacker using cheats und?er his username. Instead of banning the hacker, though, the developer banned the streamer.

Hackers are on the warpath and you might be next

Content creator Choy has made a video that thoroughly explains what has happened. There are more examples o?f strea?mers being impersonated with nothing but their username and receiving permanent bans, but that's not all the hackers have been able to pull off.

In one case shown in the video, a hacker thought a developer at Behaviour Interactive was watching them, so they stole stream assets from a streamer and banned that streamer within three matches. Now, there are reports of all sorts of players, some of? whom do??n't even stream, being banned because hackers have done something similar to them.

According to Choy, these hackers want t??o show the community that the developer needs better banning processes in place because the current system can be easily abused. It's a noble thought, but regardless of their intentions, the hackers have indeed shone a light on this broken system and how it needs s??orting out.

While most casual players won't likely become targets of this group, small streamers can use face cams and Vtuber rigs to make their streams unique and help avoid this happening to them. As someone who plays a lot of Dead by Daylight, I feel disappointed and let down because so many fans have had their days ruined by this, and there should be a better system?? in place to catch hackers.

If you are affected by a ban, Choy pointed out how important it is to format your device before playing t??he game again. Behavior Interactive places pings on hardware that will automatically ban a player if that device is ??used again. Formatting the device should remove this ping.

Outside of this growing hacker problem, Dead by Daylight is in a great space. Lara Croft joins the game in mid-July, and many more chapt??ers are planned for the rest of the year. Hopefully, this issue can be addressed so it doesn't mar what should be an exciting year for new content in the game.

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre launch?es its next update today, September 12, 2023, and players irritated by those long lobby queues may see some relief.

Patch notes for today's quick fixes add a lot of little tweaks that add up to big changes. Notably, Gun and Sumo Digital t?ook out the lobby timer that was added in a previous update following community backlash. Sumo intended to give players more time to fill lobbies, but the patch notes seems to acknowledge it backfired:

"The community generally disliked this change, and?? we have therefore reverted it back to the standard 3 minutes."

The seemingly endless lobby timer starting and stopping was occasionally my experience, too. There's quite a few threads hanging out on Reddit and Steam complaining about waits and changes to the system. Now, you'll wait three minutes, and the Texas Chain Sa??w Massacre's comm?unity lead, Matt Shotcha, noted player feedback on a few occasions.

"Maybe they can add a prompt or sound if 6 of 7 players ready up or it cuts the timer to a minute or 30 seconds," wrote one player. Sh?otcha responded it was "something we c?an consider for the future."

Other fixes include the funky ?matchmaking queue with active players continuing to countdown long after everyone readied up. This happened a few times within my own pre-made groups. But now, assuming everyone selects ready, you won't have to wait for the full-timer to expire to fin??d another lobby.

As for the rest, they're mostly things that didn't impede in my matches, but are noteworthy. Bone scraps now limit players to three uses, and the car battery begins Texas Chain Saw matches fully charged. The full list is worth a read, even if you aren't adding new victims or family to the roster. Queue hiccups aside, I've had a blast in it, terrifying grandpa jokes and ??all.

Sea of Stars

We got another look at the Sea of Stars announcement trailer that was released a few months ago. The turn-based RPG inspired by the classics still looks as beautiful as ever. Sea of Stars tells the story of two Children of the Solstice who combine powers of sun and moon to perform Eclipse Magic and fight back the evil Fleshmancer. Sea of Stars features special guest composer Yasunori Mitsuda who is well known for his music in Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, and Xenoblade Chronicles 3. Ok, this probably has to be the best reveal of the showcase in my opinion. Stray Souls is a creepy-looking indie game that looks like a mix between Silent Hill and Resident Evil. The spooky third-person shooter features new music by legendary Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka. Stray Souls hits Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S in Fall 2023.

Birth

I'll be honest, Birth definitely looked unique but I wasn't too sure exactly what I had just seen by the time the trailer was over. Apparently, it's an adventure puzzle game about constructing a creature from spare bones and organs you find around a city. The art is hand-drawn and the gameplay involves you solving physics-based puzzles as you discover secrets around town. Birth releases on Xbox One on July 28.

The Making of Karateka

Gun Media has reiterated the release date for its upcoming The Texas Chain Saw Massacre �noting that the down 'n' dirty multiplay??er title will launch August? 18 on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X as well as reminding Xbox Game Pass subscribers that they will be able to dive into the action day one.

Adapted from Tobe Hooper's magnificent 1974 picture, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre will pit a party of hapless survivors �all hippie hair and booty shorts �against the terrifying Sawyer family, ??consisting of members either directl?y pulled from, or inspired by, Hooper's seminal horror classic.

The survivors, (or "Victims" to use the game's lexicon), will be required to complete objectives and gather key items from several recognizable locales while staying one step ahead of family members The Cook, The Hitchhiker, and, of course, the horrifying, chainsaw-wielding Leatherface. All new original characters, including "Johnny" and "Sissy", have al?so been created to... flesh out the roster of cannibal?istic killers.

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is clearly hoping to carve itself a piece of the assymetrical horror pie established by titles such as Behavior Interactive's Dead by Daylight and Illfonic's Friday the 13th: The Game. These releases were, in turn, followed by Illfonic own Predator: Hunting Grounds, Saber Interactive's Evil Dead: The Game, and the currently in-development Killer Klowns from Outer Space.

It's admittedly something of a risky proposition, given that Dead by Daylight has all but completely cornered the market o??n multiplayer horror movie mashups, but developer Sumo Digital will be looking to capture the distinct (and suspicious) flavor of the original movie to p?rovide an experience that �aesthetically at the very least �will be quite unlike its contemporaries.

My curiosity for this plucky release is piqued, just add Stretch as a playable character, (complete with Caroline Williams providing the voice), and I'll be buzzin'. I think, for the title to have legs among its kin, it might have to paint itself as a full tribute to the entire franchise, eventually adding locations, characters, and "skins" (no pun intended)? from the film's scatte??rshot sequels, spin-offs, and remakes.

But I'm perhaps jumping the gun a little. Let's get the ti?tle through ?the steel-shuttered door first.

Sumo Digital's asymmetrical multiplayer take on The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is locking in dates for both a technical test and full release. The? gory multiplayer will test the waters on May 25, with a full release scheduled for Augu?st 18, 2023.

Based on the 1974 horror film, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre looks to pit hapless travelers against the Slaughter family that loves to prey on them. It seems to be following in the same asymmetrical steps of many other multiplayer horror games these days. The victims run and hide, using stealth and wits to survive as the Slaughter Family players hunt them down. If that seems like your type of jam, though, there will be a technical test to kick the tires of this new horror game in May. Gun and Sumo Digital advise those who want to know more about the test to follow The Texas Chain Saw Massacre social channels, or you could keep an eye on the Steam page.

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre game interests me, though not solely because of my Texan roots. Many asymmetrical horror games have come and gone, and it feels like the extremely specific adaptations sometimes have trouble sticking around. Going up against established, multi-property juggernauts like Dead By Daylight has to be tough, so I'm curious to see what ?Sumo Digital brings to the table to make the Slaughter Family's horror experience stand out. You know, aside from the chainsaws.

The Saw is (still) Family

[Update: Behavior Interactive has confirmed to Destructoid that Leatherface is not being removed from Dead by Daylight, and will remain part of the posse of kil??lers stalking their way through The Fog.

A new rumor hit the community of Behavior Interactive's Dead by Daylight this weekend, suggesting that one of its popular Hunters �Leatherface of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre fame �mig??ht be preparing to take on his final slaughterthons in t??he assymetrical slasher.

According to a moderator from the sneaky-leaky DbDLeaks Discord, the license for Leatherface is about to reach its conclusion, with no suggestion that the developer, or publisher, are prepared to renew the contract for yer boy Bubba. The rumor, though not confirmed, seems snug, as Leatherface will soon be making his hammer blows felt in his very own assymetrical title, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, which is curr??ently in development at Sumo Digital.

Scheduled to launch later in 2023, and published by Gun Interactive, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre will see players on the run from the terrifying Sawyer family, consisting of The Hitchhiker, The Cook, and, of course, Leatherface himself. A?s such, one would assume that this title would have the exclusive rights to the saggy-pants psychopath, and would rather he wasn't making an appearance in other games, especially one so immediately similar to its own.

Behavior Interactive is yet to comment on the rumor, but we'll be sure to update this story once we know the official score. For now, it seems, Dead by Daylight Leatherface mains should prob?ably get their "fill" of Survivors, before their favorite run 'n' revver goes jogging through the woods for pastures new.

Here's a fresh look at the 3v4 gameplay

The horror-movie-turned-asymmetric-multiplayer-game trend isn't slowing down, and I'm curious to see how Gun Interactive will pull off its killers-versus-survivors setup in The Texas Chain Saw Massacre??. The 2023 video game is coming into more gruesome focus today with a highly choreographed, albeit mood-setting, new gameplay trailer.

Last month, the developers dove into three of the game's maps �the Family House, G??as Station, and Slaughterhouse �with overhead previews and descriptions.

"The Family will need to keep their eyes and ears open and depend on all of the tools at their disposal, including teamwork, to search out and discover where the Victims are?? before they are able to escape the Family’s clutches," noted Gun Interactive communications director ??Daniel Nixon. "We’ve said before that Victims should be silent, shut off the lights, and stick to the shadows. These are the core concepts to strive for, though there are times that players can’t, or won’t, be able to follow these guidelines."

While Gun is known for its work on Friday the 13th: The Game, CEO Wes Keltner has explained that they "never want to make the s??ame game twice," adding th??at "you either innovate or imitate, and I don’t have to tell you which one makes for a better game."

PS4 and Xbox One versions confirmed

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is coming to PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S in 2023, including PC and Xbo??x Game Pass support. A wide platform spread and easy no-brainer access for subscribers seems crucial, as this game will live and die by its audience.

According to executive producer Ismael Vicens, Sumo Nottingham will bring the game to PS4 and Xbox One "in a way th??at preserves the gameplay and visual tone of the title while giving players what they have been asking for." I hope the passion pays off.

LOOK WHAT YOUR BROTHER DID TO THE DOOR!

Gun Interactive has revealed that upcoming hide 'n' hunt title The Texas Chain Saw Massacre: The Game, will retain the typical asymmetrical gameplay of titles such as Friday the 13th: The Game and Dead by Daylight, but will?? be switching up the format in regards to its teams of? hunters and survivors.

Unlike many recent asymmetrical titles, which often see a single overpowered killer chasing down teams of around four to five survivors, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre will instead feature three ki?llers versus a team of four survivors. The killers are expected to be the three key?? members of the cinematic Sawyer family: The Hitch-hiker, The Cook, and, of course, the terrifying Leatherface himself.

"We never want to make the same game twice. You either innovate or imitate, and I don’t have to tell you which one makes for a better game," said Gun Interactive CEO Wes Keltner. "Everyone at Gun prefers to innovate and push the genre forward. How do you do this? Well, when it came to the design of Texas?? we knew that 3vs4 was different. All the mechanics and features are built around this fundamental rethinking of asymmetrical multiplayer."

The key dynamic of switching up the team format lies in an effort to make the family feel powerful and frightening, while also offering key teamwork dynamics between both killers and survivors. It's interesting as a concept, but will make for some tough balancing. Leatherface is a force to be reckoned with alone by hot-pants-we??aring teenagers. Even if? they gather together �dude has a fucking chainsaw.

It will be interesting to see how the balance of power is distributed, both among the haple?ss survivors and among the three individual members of The Sawyer Family. Will The Cook have skills that Leatherface does not? Will Leatherface ??be harder to bring down than The Cook? And will The Hitch-hiker be able to take shit photos and then attempt to scam you out of five bucks for the privilege?

One thing's for certain, as long as everybody hates Franklin, then ??it's an authentic cinematic experience.

The studio behind Friday the 13th: The Game

My first laugh of the night at The Game Awards 2021 happened in a pre-show segment when we got a teaser for a new Texas Chain Saw Massacre video game. Don't get me wrong, there's some potential in that ide??a, for sure �but the trailer's phrasing of a "multiplayer horror game based on true events" just cracked me up.

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is a collaboration between Gun Interactive (the team behind Friday the 13th: The Game) and Sumo Nottingham, and ??it's based on the original film.

Creative Director Ronnie Hobbs says it's probably his "favorite horror film ever created," so "having the chance to really dive into the world of this IP with the team from Gun and working with Sumo to bring this vision to life has been almost surreal." I personally wouldn't go that far, but plenty of people cherish the movie (and some of us are into the wacky sequel). It's curious to see another horror IP break out beyond Dead by Daylight.
