To celebrate the recent release of the Unholy Alliance update, Devolved Digital is giving Cult of the Lamb players the chance to get their hands on in-game items through Twitch drops. There are three décor items to gain through watch??ing others play, and a set available for subbing. 

All of the items up for grabs through this Twitch drop campaign will be officially released to players on all platforms further down the line, although ther??e is currently no confirmation about when this will? actually happen. 

For now, if you’re playing through Steam and want to get yourself any of the following decorative pieces for your Cult of the Lamb playthrough, there are a number of?? different rewards on offer and yo??u have until September 20 to claim yours. 

In order to get any of the following drops, you’ll need to first link your Twitch account with the Devolver Digital codes site. To do this, just head to the website and c??lick on the “Connect your Twitch Accountâ€?button at the top. 

How long do you need to watch to get Cult of the Lamb Twitch drops?

There are three items ready to be claimed by players who tune into any stream on Twitch with the “DropsEnabled�tag (you can find all of the currently live and eligible streams here). The items you stand to gain, and how long you need to ??watch to get each of them, are as follows:

• Goat Effigy (1 hour of watch time)
• Goat Statue (2 hours of watch time)
• Goat Plant (3 hours of watch time)

In ?total, you’ll only need to watch someone play for three hours in order to get all of the Twitch drop items. 

How to get the Cult of the Lamb Support a Streamer pack

The Su?pport a Streamer pack isn’t gained through watch time and instead requires you to do one of the following:

• Subscribe to a Twitch streamer with the “DropsEnabledâ€?tag active
• Gift a subscription to someone else in a stream with the “DropsEnabledâ€?tag active

If you're a streamer on Twitch and you're somehow managing to make money off it, it seems there's a bit of good news on the horizon. Well, provided you're based in the UK, Canada, Australia, or Turkey. However, if you'?re a subscriber to streamers, this m??ay sting a little.

In a recent blog post on Twitch, the Amazon-owned platform is going to up subscription costs for ?the above countries. Beginning March 28, Tier 1 subs will no?w be increased, except in Turkey, which will see all three tier prices rise. By quite a significant amount, I should add.

Twitch held a stream recently?? in the hope of clarifying some of the details. CMO Mike Minton says broadcasters with subscribers will still get the same revenue share. However, this also ??means the company will financially benefit as well.

Possibly more price increases coming?

As it stands, this is just an initial wave that Minton says will hopefully reward th??ose who use the site for streaming purposes. This is especially important for anyone who makes a living doing so. Obviously, this could have a knock-on effect for the subscribers themselves, who, going forward, will have to pay out a bit m?ore if they want to support their favorite channels.

As for whether this will roll out to the US and other countries, it's hard to say at this point. It sounds like Twitch is implementing it in the UK, Canada, Australia, and Turkey first on a sort of tria??l basis. If it works out t??o be beneficial, then we could see it come to other nations.

It's also important to note those days, as Twitch says, "you’ll keep earning the same amount per Prime sub as you do today until June ??3rd when [Twitch will] switch to the published, per country payout r??ates." Last year, we reported that Twitch was introducing a new Partner Plus Program, which brought with it changes to how streamers are paid. While it was met with some praise, it was also criticized for certain threshold?? requirements. As a result, the company has implemented a few changes.

In a recent blog, T??witch announced its updated payouts for Partner Plus. For starters, it's now allowing Affiliated rather than just Partners to be included in the program. The changes also lower the threshold from 350 to 300, which means more streamers can qualify.

When the scheme began last October, it adjusted?? the 50/50 split to a 70/30 one, giving st??reamers more income. Now, with a lower threshold of 100 Plus Point (presumably this is in relation to how many subscribers channels have), a new Level 1 entry point will give content creators a 60/40 split, while Level 2 retains the 70/30 split.

Twitch has received "clear feedback"

Additionally, when the Partner Plus Program (which is dropping the "Partner" from the name) was first introduced, it put a cap o?n how much streamers could earn. In a nutshell, anyone whose revenue was $100k or more would go back down to the 50/50 split. This idea has now been scrapped.

The program was met with some backlash from the community, many of whom were concerned that the 350?? subscriber threshold was unobtainable for many channels. Add onto that the income cap, and it was not Twitch's finest hour.

However, judg??ing by responses to its Twitter thread on the news, it seems many are much happier with these new? changes that will be coming into effect this May.

After a nasty 2023 for games industry labor, 2024 is off to a similar start. We already saw significant layoffs at Twitch last year, and now there's even more grim news ahead, as the Amazon-owned platform is letting 35% of its ??????????????????????????staff go.

A recent report from Bloomberg says Twitch i?s due? to lose around 500 of its workforce. This news was originally sourced from people who are "familiar with the plans."

Since this report, the company has issued a statement about the layoffs. A recent blog post acknowledges the "difficult decision" Twitch had to make, in which there will be a reduction in the "size of our workforce." It also confirms the number of job?? losses will be 500.

Adding to this, CEO D??an Clancy says there will be a livestream going ahead on Thursday, January 11 at 1 pm PT for those who have questions. There's also a section that addresses those who feel the decision will affect their role. Those who are not affected will still be sent an email from Clancy.

When will it end?

This also comes just shortly after Unity announced it was laying off 25% of its s?taff, which accounts for around 1,800 jobs. Indeed, this latest developer from Twitch could set another precedent �carrying ?on from 2023 �in terms of job uncertainty in t?he video game and adjacent industries.

We already experienced a ton of job losses last year, with thousands of employees being let go from otherwise lucrative development houses and publishers. Worse still, entire studios �such as TimeSplitters outlet Free Radical Design �had their doors closed for good.

We're only into the second week of the new year, and things are not looking good for those employed in video games. This is all in spite of the fact that the industry at large saw rising profits in 2023, according to data from Statista.

Hopefully, there'll be some?thing on the horizon quickly for the hundreds at? Twitch that are affected by the decision.

For those who want to engage in more adult-orien??tated streaming, it seems like Twitch is not the bes?t place for it. However, the Amazon-owned platform clearly has to deal with it, and a new policy update aims to clamp down on broadcasters casting their broads, so to speak.

Over on the Twitch website, the company says that?, as of yesterday, it'll be cracking dow?n on any 'implied nudity.' As the post itself says:

This update is in response to a recent meta on Twitch in which streame??rs use black censor bars or other items to block their bodies or clothing, or position the camera frame such that the viewer is led to believe that the streamer is fully or partia??lly nude.

As of January 3, streamers will be required to make sure there is no suggestion that they may be hiding obvious nudity. The update specifies tha?t, where required, "coverage must be fully opaque," adding that "sheer or partially see-through clothing does not constitute coverage."

Adults only...kind of

Given that Twitch is largely a place where people go to watch content creators play games or engage in creative activities, it stands to reason that sexual or adult content would not be encourag?ed.

However, the site recently updated another policy, which introduced a new label for streams classed as having "sexual content." This means content such as "erotic dances" and "fictionalized" nudity are allowed, providing they are correctly labeled. Full nudity...still a massive no-no, ho??wever. Also, streams of this nature are not prese?nt on the homepage.

As for the update to the attire policy, Twitch has made it clear that it does not want strea??mers to be presenting themselves with "implied nudity." The post states that such content will have i??ts label changed to a more appropriate one, while repeat offenses will "lead to an enforcement action."

Despite being one of the biggest streaming platforms in the world, Twitch has more than its share of problems. Recently, the company announced 180 employees were being laid off, and now it's h?a??????????????????????????ving to cease operations in Korea.

In a recent blog post, Twitch CEO Dan Clancy has said the service will shut down business in Korea, effective February 27, 2024. The statement goes on to say that it was a "difficult de??cision" but the "the cost to operate" Twitch in the country is "prohibitively expensive."

Clancy explains tha?t the company had spent time trying to reduce the cost of running in Korea, saying that the team "experimented with a peer-to-peer model for source quality." All efforts appear to be? in vain, though, with the platform saying it's been "operating at a loss."

What happens to Korean streamers?

Obviously, this means that anyone in Korea who uses Twitch to broadcast won't be able to come the end of February. In the blog post, Clancy says streamers who "devoted significant time and effort into ?building their communities" will be helped.

The company will "??work to help Twitch streamers in Korea move their communities to alternative livestreaming services." Sadly, those who are perhaps not on Twitch's radar will unlikely be given a hand.

Last month, it was also announced that Twitch was being dropped from the Nintendo Switch, owing to numerous and recurring issues with the app. The Amazon-owned service will no doubt continue to dominate the streaming market, but these av?enues being closed off will no doubt be harmful for business.

As outlined in a recent Twitch blog post, the Amazon-owned platform is providing a 60-day trial of Crunchyroll Mega Fan Premium membership. This mean?s you'll get to watch all ??your favorite anime and manga shows without ads.

Of course, it's not as simple as just holding out your han?d and waiting for the trial to drop into it. There are a few provisos before you can qualify. Because of course there are.

*Sigh* Okay, what do I have to do?

For starters, the campaign is only being run for this month, so you have until November 30 to get your free trial. In exchange for the Crunchyroll membership, ??you'll need to purchase "two new Twitch subs and/or gift subs."

The type of Twitch subscripti??ons and gifted subs that are eligible include:

• New monthly subs (any tier)
• Multi-month subs (3-month, 6-month)
• Gift subs (any tier for any number of months)

Prime subs, existing su?b renewals, bit??s, turbos, and a bunch of others don't qualify.

It's also worth noting that it's only available on "participating channels streaming in the Just Chatting, Art, and One Punch Man: World categories." You also can't qualify for the offer if ??you live in any of the following countries:

• Russia
• Ukraine
• Cuba
• China
• Iran
• Japan
• North Korea
• Syria
• South Sudan
• Sudan

What else? Oh, yeah: "existing or past Crunchyroll members or users who have previously claimed a Crunchyroll free trial ?in the past year are not eligible."

I think that covers everything. As is typical with these types of deals, there are plenty of Ts & Cs before you qualify. If you do quality, happy days. If not... Young Sheldon?, I gue??ss.

Despite numerous controversies over the years, Twitch remains the biggest platform for streaming and broadcasting video game content. However, the Amazon-owned site has recently tried to implement better features to help users moderate their channe?ls, and it looks a new tool is on the?? way.

According to a screenshot uploaded by streamer and partner Lowco (thanks, Eurogamer), Twitch plans on adding a way for content creators to block banned viewers from watching their streams. The image depicts a new settin??g that "when enabled, banned users w?ill not be able to watch your live broadcasts."

Currently, a Twitch ban only stops users from chatting, but they can still watch. Note that this new feature is not considered an IP ban, but Twitch's senior product manager Trevor Fisher says the company will look into feedback from streamers with the hope of makin??g moderation tools more powerful.

When are Twitch ban changes coming?

Updates to Twitch bans should roll out in Septemb??er, available to all users interested in the new feature. We don't know what date exactly, but details should trickle in as Twitch imp??lements changes from its Patch Note streams.

Blocking users from watching streams (and chatting) won't stop them from being able to watch VODs or clips, though. J?ust as Fisher noted, maybe that's something the platform could implement in ??the future with enough feedback.

With viewership up, amassing around 1.8 billion watched hours for July 2023, Twitch retains its position as the number one place for streaming content. Alternatives like YouTube Gaming are trying to compete, but the purple site in its curre?nt iteration still rules the market. For?? now.

Despite Twitch being embroiled in controversies (seemingly on a constant ba??sis), it's still the number one choice when it comes to streaming or watching streamers. This is evidenced by the fact tha??t viewership seems to be on the up and up, with millions still tuning in each month.

Cold hard data seems to back this up, as a report from Gamesindustry.biz states that Twitch has recorded 1.8 billion hours for July 2023. This represents a 5% increase over June, with daily viewership having gone up since March of this year. The? figures come from StreamElements and Rainmaker.gg.

On top of that, GTA 5 is still the number one game to watch, with 139 million hours logged. Other top titles for the Amazon-owned platform include League of Legends, Minecraft, CS:GO, and Dota 2. Basically, a lot of PvP and/or otherwise multiplayer games.

Recent Twitch backlashes

However, it's not all peachy for Twitch. The site came under fire from streamers recently when its new Partner Plus program was announced. Many felt that qualifying for the better revenue?? split was unobtainable for a lot of people who rely on the service?? for income.

Maintaining a recurrin?g subscription count of 350 for three months already sounds like a lofty ask. Add to that the fact that Amazon Prime subs and gifted subs don't count, and it's easy to see why a lot of streamers find this target difficult.

That said, from a viewer's perspective, things seem to be going pretty well. With close to two billion hours in total watched for July alone, gamers are evidently finding plenty to watch on Twitch. It's just a shame the company cont??inues to disappoint many of its broadcasters.

A program for the Twitch elite?

Recently, it was announced that Twitch would be improving its revenue splits through what's being called the Partner Plus program. This means streamers will be entitled to a 70/30 split instead of the curr?ent 50/50, providing they meet certain requirements?.

However, while it's generally been accepted that this is a step in the right direction, more than a few content creators are concerned about the upcoming program. Speaking to Eurogamer recently, a number of streamers sa??y they feel the scheme is "anti-community," with concerns that a lot of people who regularly use Twitch to stream will struggle to qualify.

Twitch Partner Joesephyr said the new program is "unattainable for the majority??," a sentiment that seems to be shared by others. They added that while it seems to be a "gesture of good faith," the criteria that need to be met in order to enter into Partner Pl?us is something a lot of streamers will find difficult.

How does one qualify?

In June, Twitch sai??d that come October 2023, the new program will go live. For content creators to be able to be welcomed into Partner Plus, there are a few stipulations. The first is that streamers must have at least 350 recurring subscriptions for ?three consecutive months. This does not include Prime subs or gifted subs, the latter of which allows viewers to pay for a subscription for another user.

This has come under fire as well. Twitch Partner Warwick says they don't want to have to ask their community for non-gifted subs. This is especially prescient in the current cost of living crisis, as Lomadiah says.

On top of the 350 recurring subscriptions, those who want to be part of the new scheme will also be c??apped if they earn $100,000 a year or more. After this, the split goes back down to 50/50.

Mary Kish, Twitch's director of community marketing and production, believes Partner Plus is a way for streamers to challenge themselves to reach these milestones, because "once you hit that milestone, there is another milestone, and it's harder." She likens the program to ??a "career lesson."

And it's only for Partners

Twitch is forever altering the way it allows content creators to make money, but it usually comes with a drawback or two. Take the recent changes to revenue splits. Some felt that this was a step in the right? direction, but given that the new program comes with a bunch of boxes that need to be ticked, not everyone can benefit.

Now, there's a new feature that's being implemented, which could also be seen in a less-than-good light for most. According to a recent blog post, Twitch is introducing "Hype Chat," a feature that gives viewers the chance t??o literally buy chat messages. The idea behind it is to let users "stand out" in the overall ch?at.

Amounts that can be paid for messages vary from $1 to $500 (though Twitch says that streamers can set a minimum amount up to $100). Depending on how mu??ch a viewer pays will depend on the duration of the pinned comment, as well as character length, and the visual design. All this while affording the person streaming the ability to "earn a share of the revenue from each Hype Chat purchase."

But, as usual, not everyone will get the benefit of this new feature. The blog post goes on to say that Hype Chat is only available to Partners, so smaller channels will miss out. However, the Amazon-owned service does say that it may look i??nto implementing this "more broadly" in the future.

For some, though, it may be too little too late to win back support. With big streaming names like xQc and Amouranth already jumping ship to riva??l platform Kick, things are looking a bit tough for Twitch right now, though it should be noted that it is still pulling in millions of users each month.

Sometimes it's difficult to know what's going on at Twitch at any given time. On one hand, the streaming platform has made attempts to remove hate groups. On the other, it's also been embroiled in a series of controversies. This is especially true when it comes to ?the streamers themselves.

However, there is some good news on the horizon, as it turns out th?at the Amazon-owned company is increasing its revenue split, returning to the old 70/30 divide. The new program is being referred to as "Partner Plus." But before you start celebrating, there are a fe??w provisos.

According to a recent Twitch blog post, streamers will be entitled to a bigger share of the streaming pot earned so long as they "maintain a sub count of at least 350 recurring paid subscriptions for three consecutive months." This means the sub count cannot drop below this number for that period of time. To clear any questions on that front, a report from PC Gamer says that Amazon Prime subscriptions will not be counted, so only monthly and gifted subs will work.

Going into more detail, Twitch also says that Partner Plus will cap the ne??w 70/30 split at $100,000 US over a 12-month period. Once these conditions are met, content creators will be automatically enrolled in the program, which will come into effect on October 1, 2023. It's also worth noting that once you qualify, if your subscription count?? dips below the 350 sub threshold over the 12-month period, you will still be entitled to the split.

Twitch has notoriously had a difficult time pleasing streamers in the past, especially when it comes to money. The fact that you won't qualify for the Partner Plus scheme if you earn too much may seem bittersweet to some. There are probably a few famous names on the site that will automatically be discounted, but for the rest, it sounds like an opportunity to earn more of a lion's share. New rules 'created confusion and frustration'

For many streamers, Twitch is not just a place to broadcast content. It's a major source of income. Some creators build up huge communities that are dedicated to watching their channel, and this can lead to a successful career. However, the Amazon-owned streaming platform has once again become the subject of online controversy. Namely, there's been a change to its ad policy, whic??h has not proven popul??ar.

In a recent post on the site, Twitch announced it would be changing the type of "branded c?ontent" that broadcasters would be able to have on their channel. Th??e changes indicate that streams will no longer be allowed to insert "burned-in" display, video, or audio ads. This basically refers to any advertisement that is a prerecorded sponsorship. It also limits on-stream logos to just 3% of the total screen.

As can be imagined, this has not gone down well with those who depend on the site for their streaming income. As reported by GamesRadar, a number of people have lashed out at Twitch, with the likes of Zach Bussey saying they may have to reconsider whether it's the platform for them. Charity events such as Games Done Quick would also be affected by these changes, as their streams typically feature branded content to h??elp them raise money.

In response to this, Twitch has posted an apologetic message on its Twitter account. The first tweet admits that the new branded content policy update was "overly broad," while one below it says the company did "not intend to limit streamers�ability to enter into direct rel?ationships with sponsors." By alluding to the fact that streamers would not be able to display burned-in third-party ads, many felt that t?he platform was saying that only Twitch-approved advertisements would be permitted.

However, even after the apology, the damage appears to have already been done. Such content creators as Jacksepticeye have criticized the site for not talking to?? streamers in the first instance.?? Others still have threatened to switch to alternatives, such as YouTube and Kick.

Users advised to reset stream keys and update passwords

[Update: Twitch has confirmed that the data breach is genuine and will update the community about the hack when it has more information.]

According to reports this morning, Twitch has been hacked wide-open by person or persons unknown. The live-streaming site's source code, along with an abundance of related account data, has been supposedly leaked as an online tor?rent.

First reported by VGC, the 128GB relea?se was uploaded onto online forums by an anonymous hacker, who claimed that they found the Twitch community a "disgusting toxic cesspool" with the goal of the hack/leak being to "foster more disruption and competition in the onlin??e video streaming space". The leak appears to be genuine, as members of the public have already begun sifting through the torrent's contents in order to publish private data and details pertaining to popular streamers and �more specifically �their earnings.

The hacked data is said to contain the entirety of the Twitch.tv build �which includes clients for desktop, mobile, and console, as well as comment histories; a selection of proprietary SDKs and internal AWS services; all associa?ted Twitch properties including IGDB and CurseForge; internal developer "red-teaming" tools, (used for the purpose of hack testing); an unreleased "Steam-style" platform which was originally conceived by Amazon Game Studios; and Creator Payout Reports, reportedly dating as far back as 2019.

It is as?sumed that a huge data dump of Twitch users' personal details is also in the mix, and thus it would be wise for all users to reset their Stream Keys and update their associated passwords.

Twitch is yet to officially comment on the event. According to a VGC source, the company is aware of the s?ecurity breach, with suggestions that the data was hacked as recently as Monday, October 4.

FFT Battleground is a new interactive Twitch stream

When I woke up this morning, I didn't expect to spend a chunk of my afternoon watching AI-driven teams duke it out in Final Fantasy Tactics while hundreds of Twitch viewers placed ?bets on th??e outcome.

What have I gotten myself in??to? And how will I ever? break free from this nostalgia-fueled distraction?

The Twitch stream, FFT Battleground, is not unlike Salty Bet and its ilk. It's set up as a never-ending string of single-elimination tournaments featuring eight randomized AI teams, and viewers can make fake-money bets. The randomization factor can result in dramatic moments where an overpowered team steamrolls the competition, while the rapid-fire format keeps your eyes glued to the action.

Under the current format, Twitch users start with 1,000G and can place ??bets on every match. "[Gil??] is used only for a couple things and bragging rights, but you will be able to do more with it later on."

The beauty of this stream is that it's as involved as you want it to be.

If you're looking for a semi-mindless time-waster, you can just have FFT Battleground running in your peripheral vision while you take in the classic Final Fantasy Tactics music and sound effects. If you're feeling frisky, there's a full set of bot commands to learn, to say nothing of the skill-collecting system.

The project is ??very much a work-in-progress, but I adore this initial i?dea.

It's not direct interaction, though

Gearbox is going hard on Twitch integration for Borderlands 3. The developer announced today that a brand new extension, called the Borderlands 3 ECHOcast, will allow viewers of applicable Twitch streams to interact with the game in a variety of ways. This won't be similar to how Warhammer: Vermintide 2 allows users to vote on gameplay modifications, but more a fun way to explore the world of Borderlands 3 while watching your favorite streamer play it.

The ECHOcast will allow viewers to poke through the streamers load outs, explore the contents of their backpacks, and get a breakdown of their skill trees. Special loot chests w?ill be littered throughout the game that, when opened b?y a streamer, will allow users to opt into a challenge. Called the "Rare Chest Event," this challenge will potentially give the viewer a copy of whatever item the streamer receives. It will be handed out in the form of a SHiFT code and will be scaled to the viewers level when redeemed in their game.

With the Borderlands 3 gameplay reveal coming later this week (May 1), the ECHOcast extension will be made available to coincide with that. Various content creators around the world will be live streaming the game and we'll all get a firsthand look at how this Twitch integration will work. If users link their Twitch and SHiFT accounts together, they'll be able to watch the event and receive items for when Borderlands 3 launches later in the year.

A long weekend of streaming for charity

With the spookine?ss of October past us, it's time for Extra-Life's international game day! While Extra-Life never limits when people can help raise money for children's hospitals by streaming games, November 3rd is the often touted game day, where visibility for Extra-Life will be at its peak so encourage the most streaming an??d donations.

I'm happy to say last year's four or so participants has increased to seven! So without further ado, here is the chronological schedule of jbsgame.community streamers for the game day weekend! To reiterate, there will be streams throughout the weekend and more with the Extra-Life tag on twitch, but awareness for donations will be at their highest on November 3rd. Each month, Amazon Prime and Twitch Prime members are given a collection of free games for subscribing to the service (similar to PlayStation Plus and Xbox Live Gold). While there have normally been around 2-3 titles in a given month, Twitch is going all out to celebrate "Amazon Prime Day." From July 2 to July 17, subscribers to the service will receive a new game each day that they c??an keep forever.
