I couldn’t help but notice that it’s been a year since the last DLC for Two Point Campus. I figured that Two Point Studios had gone to work on the next entry in the Extended Two Point County Universe. Here it is! It’s Two Point Museum.

The Two Point games are big events for?? me, so I was extremely excited to get my hands on the newest locale in the county. Even if it was only briefly. I also got to talk to Executive Producer Jo Koehle??r and Design Director Ben Huskins to get further details on the latest management game.

Backing up, the Two Point games began with Two Point Hospital in 2018. The most basic way to describe Two Point Hospital would be to say it’s a spiritual successor to 1997’s Theme Hospital by many of its creators. It’s a bizarre parody of a privatized, for-profit health care. Two Point Campus followed it up by transplanting the premise to education. They are deep b???ut intuitive and easy-to-learn management games.

More importantly to me, anyway is that the Two Point games all exist in a singular county full ?of hapless, impulsive puppet peo??ple.

Two Point Museum continues this approach to the management genre with another game about deterring people from learning things, but this time in a museum. You al?so get to plunder artifacts from out in the world, and while I hope there will be jabs at particular institutes that rob countries of important historical objects, the demo only had exhibits from the pre-history category. These are things like fossils and bones. You know, things that dinosaurs aren’t using anymore and?? won’t miss.

//youtu.be/iGmUKTszyRU?feature=shared

It’s a mix of familiar and new. Museums are a different kind of business, making Two Point Museum something closer to something like Roller Coaster Tycoon. You need to draw in the crowds with some popular sights before you can squeeze them fo?r their cash. In this case it is, of course, exhibits of different types.

You gain exhibits through expeditions that you perform by sending your experts out into the world. It’s not terribly far from something like Jurassic World Evolution, but the twist here is that there’s a risk and reward to it. When you select a location to plumb for educational loot, you’re presented with a list of events that could happen, both good and bad. You can affect the likelihood of bad stuff happening but seemingly not eliminate them e??ntirely. These can result in your experts returning injured. At least,?? that’s what could be seen in the demo, as experts would return with tar-covered boots that they track through the museum.

The harm of Tarry Feet can be mitigated by hiring a janitor to clean up after them and sending them to the Omni-cure in the staff lounge. Nothing too impressive, b??ut I asked about how far this would go as the difficulty ramped up.

“We wanted expeditions to be meaningful,Koehler told me. “It is possible for your experts to go missingpermanently./p>

“We have a few different types of ailments and injuries and even getting into things like curses and things like that that you have to resolve in different ways,Huskins added. “Not everything can be cured in that cure machine, there are some that require a bit more thought and a bit more effort and have a bigger impact on your museum when those teams come back./p>

Once you have the artifacts in your building, you then have to place them accordingly. Not only does their adjacency to similar exhibits affect their popularity, but there’s a lot of decorative items that will make them more attractive. You then have to place donation boxes and information boards in their vicin??ity to get people to empty their pockets.

You also need to hire staff, make sure the important facilities are on site, and? keep things running smoothly. Some of the artifacts you bring back are encased in ice, such as a caveman. As shown in the trailer, if you don’t maintain your exhibits, they can break down. In the caveman’s case, he can break free and escape the museum.

I asked if, once the caveman escapes, you could just put him back. I mean, it might be cruel to just re-freeze a protohuman, but one of the themes of the Two Point games is a somewhat dark lack of value for human life, e??specially in the face of potential profits.

“Once they’re out, they cause a little bit of chaos around the museum,Huskins told me. “But then they want to go out and live the life they didn’t manage to live many tens of thousands of years ago./p>

He says it’s a “fail statefor the ex??hibit, meaning you can’t get it back, which ensures yo?u value your most important artifacts. After hearing that, I’m now wondering if the caveman will return to your museum as a guest.

Museums are a new setting for the Two Point games, but Two Point Museum still takes place in the same county. There are a lot of familiar elements to it besides the hapless, avarice-ridden citizens. The radio DJs (and “tannoyvoice) ??are back, which I’m happy to see. In? the brief demo, I had Ricky Hawthorn as my host, as he oversaw a telethon to raise funds for Two Point Radio. I’m told that “the favoritesfrom previous games make their return, so if Harrison Wolff isn’t on the air, I’ll pout.

The expeditions reveal a world map around Two Point County. Previously, I thought that the county was simply in a fictional area of Britain, but the existence of a wider world implies that the whol??e planet might be similarly abstract. So, I asked if we’d learn where, exactly, Two Point County actually is.

“Not sp?ecific??ally, but we are excited to be exploring further,Koehler said.

Huskins explained further, “We like that idea of kind of teasing the wider world and giving you little pockets of it. We didn’t want to completely define the whole world because we kind of want to leave a bit of mystery around the edges./p>

On that topic, I pushed to find out if there was more lore around the Two Point games beyond just what’s explored in the games. Huskins told me, “I’m not going to claim that we’ve got Elden Ring levels of lore to Two Point County, but we do keep track of things that have come up before./p>

As I mentioned, the demo for Two Point Museum was distressingly brief. It introduced many of the game’s concepts, including item placement, expeditions, staffing, and merchandising??, but ended before I really got to flex my creative muscle. Or maybe I’m just complaining because I’ve been eagerly awaiting anything new from the series.

One thing that was mentioned to me that I didn’t really get to see was the new progression system. Previous Two Point games would have you build your Hospital or Campus, complete goals to reach a three-star rating, and then move on to the next level without really providing any reason to look back to your previous efforts. It’s the sticking point for a lo?t of people, as you need to repeat a lot of your efforts each time a new level starts, and there’s little feeling of progression or persistence.

Progression seems to primarily revolve around exhibits. ??Artifacts that you discover on your expeditions are added to a pool that is available in each location.

“You can mix and match what you want to have in different museums. There’s a kind of natural fit for some of them, but it’s very much up to you what you put in e??ach of your museums,Huskins told me.

Exploration of the world is also persistent, so you can continue discovering locatio?ns when you switch to a different location.

Huskins explained, “The way that you unlock locations is to complete objectives, and some of those objectives you can complete in the museum you’re already in, but some of those objectives really will require you to take advantage of the fact that you have built up multiple museums./p>

Two Point Museum Footprint

Unfortunately, the demo didn’t give much indication of how close to completion Two Point Museum?? is, nor has a release window been stated. I asked I had to but there’s nothing t??o announce right now.

I may not have seen much in the demo, but I have seen the Two Point charm applied to a new setting, which is enough for me to get excited. As an established fan of the Two Point games, I’m easy to please. Mo??stly.

For anyone who tried Two Point Campus or Two Point Hospital and didn’t quite jive with them, there are enough improvements to Two Point Museum to take a second look. It feels closer to a tycoon game where the goal is to obtain better and better attractions and place them in an optimal way to convince people to part with their wallets. Previously, the Two Point games were more of creating a flow between rooms?? to get the ?Two Point citizens through a progressive system to either be cured or educated.

Two Point Museum has the potential to be more e??ngrossing for people who are looking for a more traditional managerial experience while not alienating fans of the previous two games. Personally, I can’t wait to experience more, and I hope it will wind up being worth the ticket price.

Education gives you a bright future, then clouds it with debt

The Two Point County Cinematic Universe (TPCCU) excites me. Two Point Studios launched Two Point Hospital with the intent of building a landscape where all their future games would happen. Two Point Campus is the next step. It’s not a sequel, but the aesthetics, the characters, and even the UI call back to their first title. It reminds me of Maxis in the 0s before and directly after EA got their evil all over them. A lot of the games sprung up around SimCity, and while not all of them were as directly related as the ones from Two Point Studios, some were tied together, ??even if it was just in a reference.

I’ve been eagerly waiting fo??r the next step in the Two Point experience. Actually, I’ve been waiting for the next few steps. Forget that, I want to just tumble down the Two Point stairs. I want to be hit in the face with one every second until I’m completely exhausted, a shattered image of the enthusiasti??c fan I once was. What are we doing here?

Two Point Campus Cheeseball

Two Point Campus (PC [Reviewed], PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch)
Developer: Two Point Studios
Publisher: Sega
Released: August 9, 2022
MSRP: $39.99

As the name implies, Two Point Campus has you building your own post-secondary education dispensary. And building it again. Then again. Twelve times in all. Your job is to meet a series of goals that may or may not relate to the well-being of your students and their? futures. Once you accomplish all the goals on a given map,? you’re off to the next one.

Even if the goals are different and the games play in considerably unique ways, the framework of Two Point Campus mirrors Two Point Hospital. Each of its levels gives you a new challenge to overcome. Sometimes you’re simply trying to win the national sportsball championship. Other times you’re digging in the earth for the priceless and irreplaceable artifacts of humanity’s past and selling them. Each sta?ge has a similar flow, but things are shaken up enough to keep thing?s from growing moss.

[embed]//youtu.be/_14i0Zxsfos[/embed]

The most toilet-y city in the county

Generally, you start your school with a small handful of cash to get it off the ground. You need t??o focus on simply getting a course started; amenities like somewhere to pee can come once youâ€?™re established and making money.

The first year doesn’t require much: a lecture theatre, a practical testing spot, and a teacher. A library if you don’t want everyone to fail. Each additional year ramps up what you need, so keep money put away or prepare to take a loan. You’re walked through the process a few times before you need to figure it out on your own, but it??’s still easy to be a little over-ambitious with your spending.

After you start making money, you need to decide whether to add additional courses or simply expand the ones you have. You don’t necessarily need to offer a multitude of courses, but you can. Some of them use the same facilities, so if you pick them right, you don’t need to bloat up your campus. You can also play with individual aspects of courses. Don’t want a lot of students but still want to charge them an arm and a leg. That’s the dream, friend, and you can do it in Two Point Campus.

Not playing Two Point Architect

Most stages offer new courses to try out. There’s a Hogwarts-inspired magic school, a chivalrous castle campus, and even a clandestine spy factory. Once you’ve unlocked a course on another campus, you can use them on any campus. My favorite was archeology since students dig huge pits and uncover treasure. I liked putting pits where they don’t belong, like beside a pool or in a park. Two Point Campus gave no judgment. At least someone ?appreciates my chaos.

Some of the same problems that were in Two Point Hospital are carried over here. One of the biggest issues I had was rebuilding each time is somewhat repetitive. The trickle of additional courses adds a bit more variety to the experience than the new diseases did in Two Point Hospital, but eventually, it becomes abrasive. To their credit, additions made to Two Point Hospital after release to alleviate the issue such as being able to copy rooms or save them as templates have made their way over to Two Point Campus. H??owever, for some people, this will be the breaking point. For others, it won’t be an issue at all.

One big change in Two Point Campusfeatures is the ability to construct the outer shells of buildings. In Two Point Hospital, you bought a lot, and it would plop down a pre-constructed building for you to organize your rooms in. For Two Point Campus, you can build them however you like. For me, it’s rectangles. All of them; rectangles. It’s the most efficient shape, and you don’t have to think much about how you organize your rooms. I’m not playing Two Point Architect here, so bite me.

Two Point Campus Dig Site

Foldable pizza

It helps that I love the humor featured in the Two Point series. It depicts a world where absolutely everyone is as daft as sponge cake. It’s likely that you’ll most commonly view the game from up high in the seat of God, but when you zoom in, there’s usually someone making themselves look ridiculous. Con??sidering the number of interactions in the game, the amount of animation has to be dizzying, and it makes everything feel full of life.

The radio DJs are back. I hope I’m not the only one who found them hilarious. They’re small breaks between music tracks where a fictional radio personality goes through a short skit or anecdote. All the ones present in Two Point Hospital return, as well as a couple of college radio hosts. Harrison Wolff is still my favorite, though I didn’t hear a skit with him that equals the one from the previous game where he gets locked in the recording studio. Still, there were quite a few instances where I laughed to myself, alone, in my "office." Honestly,?? I could probably just have fun lis?tening to the hosts.

Burnt College Pizza

Moving to the county, gonna eat a lotta pizzas

Here’s the deal: if you didn’t like Two Point Hospital, chances are low that Two Point Campus will click with you. While the subject matter is completely different, the flow of the game has changed, an??d some improvements have been made, it’s similar enough that it carries all the same possible points of friction.

On the other hand, if you did dig Two Point Hospital, then you’ll find everything you loved about it here on campus. I’d say I even prefer it to the previous tit?le, if only because I enjoy the subject matter a bit more.

If you haven’t visited Two Point County before, then Two Point Campus is a perfect starting point. T??here’s absolutely no requirement that you played the previous game in the series to enjoy this one. Howev?er, if you’re already accustomed to the interface and overall mechanics, this will be a comfortable temperature to slide into.

For me, I couldn’t be happier. Well, I could. A university may be a different ballgame than a hospital, but it’s not a very shocking twist. I’d love to see Two Point County zoomed into something small like a restaurant or sports team, or zoomed out to a city or, well, county. But Two Point Campus is a wonderful return to the universe, and I’ll happily perhaps impatien??tly be waiting for the next chan??ce to visit.

University gives you a bright future and clouds it with debt

For me, one of the most devastating delays this year has been Two Point Campus. I know, I know, three months isn’t the end of the world. I just had to start up its predecessor, Two Point Hospital, and cry a lot.

Sega and Two Point?? Studios have my back. They gave Destructoid the opportunity to check out a bit of their upcoming game, which I jumped on. I need i?t. Right in my veins.

Two Point Campus Jousting

I was also given the chance to talk to Mark Webley and Chris Knott, studio director, and senior animator respectively. Both veterans in their own right, having worked on games like the Fable series and The Movies. Mark Webley goes all the way back to Syndicate in 1993 and, of course, Theme Hospital in 1997. He couldn’t tell me why we can’t buy The Movies on Steam anymore, just that he wishes he could still play it.

My most burning question was what lead the studio to the university campus rather than, say the hospital again or any of the infinite possibilities you could cram into the studiosfictional Two Point Campus. They said they had a bunch of ideas, but wanted to do something different. A lot of the ideas they put together seemed like they’d result in a gameplay loop too similar to Two Point Hospital.

Two Point Campus is simultaneously familiar and unique. After over 80 hours in Two Point Hospital, it took me no time at all to get a feel for the UI, control, and mechanics. However, your goal is quite different. Rather than healing people as efficiently as possible? before shunting them back out into the street, your focus is on enabling your students to flourish in their academic and social endeavors.

[embed]//youtu.be/_14i0Zxsfos[/embed]

Class is in session

But like Two Point Hospital, Two Point Campus is both a weird take on managing an institution and a hilarious satire of it. Make no mistake, you want profits. Profit just happens to come quicker the better you are at training your students. They’d better just cooperate by getting their grades up. It isn’t that dark, you still want to provide the best service possible, you just don’t c??are whether o??r not that will pay off their debt.

It also has a weird way to present familiar topics. The gastronomy course has students creating massive dishes, which is one of the more normal available studies. There’s also knighthood and magic present in the four-course sampling I was provided. If there isn’t a weird doctor’s college that ties into Two Point Hospital, I’m going to organize a riot.

From your humble beginnings, y??ou start improving courses and adding others. Leveling up courses increases the number of students you can bring in, which also requires you to build more facilities and hire more teachers. ?You can’t, unfortunately, just pile all your students into the same classroom, even though that would be more cost-effective.

Two Point Campus Class

One of the more appreciable changes in Two Point Campus is the ability to build the outer shells of your buildings in any way you want. In Two Point Hospital (and Theme Hospital before it), you bought pre-planned buildings and configured your rooms within their restrictions. It sometimes required you to get creative with your layouts, as you ??needed to maximize the space used.

My feelings on this change are mixed. On one hand, this provides a lot more freedom in constructing your campus. On the other hand, it’s really tempting to just make square or rec?tangular buildings to make layouts a lot easier and interchangeable. I suppose it’s a matter of how much effort you want in your aesthetic. In the same sense, you could just plop down trees and flowers in tight rows just to raise your environment level, but that’s just slightly beneath me.

TPC Rock Concert

Young romance

Speaking of the environment, you may be disappointed to know that the same decoration system from Two Point Hospital is back. The biggest change is that you can’t just cram posters behind the furniture to raise your prestige rating without throwing off your feng shui. A lot of furniture, when placed against the wall, blocks anything from being placed there. It’s probably a shortcut that should have been addressed, but I just hate arranging the? wall art in ?every room I make.

On that topic, the ability to copy rooms or save them as templates was patched into Two Point Hospital, and it makes a return here. If you’re t??he type to make individual dorm rooms r?ather than turning them into barracks, that can save you a lot of work.

A unique feature of Two Point Campus is the ability to foster relationships in your students. You can get as much or as little from this feature as you’d like. The students work autonomously, and your part is simply setting up events for them to take part in and facilities to get together at. If you want them to have romance, you’d better plop down some good places for them to make out, as well. You can follow your favorite student through th??eir education and relationships, or you can completely ignore them. Just as long as their happy e?nough to keep their complaints to themselves.

Two Point Campus Overview

Most importantly to me, the radio from Two Point Hospital is back, including all the DJs. I was a bit nervous, as it ??took me some time to hear my favorite, Harrison Wolff, but he’s in here with the rest of them. There are also some new DJs, including a pretty appropriate student testing the waters. The writing is as sharp as ever, and even the PA lady has made a re??turn with some new lines.

One complaint that I often heard (and can definitely agree with) about Two Point Hospital was the game’s progression. You had a set number of objectives, and once they were completed, you moved on to start a new hospital. This isn’t a terrible gameplay loop for the first few levels, but there were fifteen in th?e base game, and it could become tiresome to constantly go through the same mot?ions of plopping down all your rooms.

I’m not entirely certain this has been addressed in Two Point Campus, and the developers I spoke with didn’t really put that fear to rest. There are 12 stages planned for Two Point Campus, and, once again, you’re restarting your college each time. There is hope, however. The game is a lot more freeform, meaning you’re given the tools to do things differently each time. Each campus also provides a new set of courses, and you can decide which ones you offer. This is different to Two Point Hospital, where each hosp??ital essentially functions the same way. Whether or not this will provide enough variety remains to be seen.

Cafeteria Food

Summer school

The team at Two Point Studios has had a difficult development cycle, with most working remotely from home due to the pandemic. However, Two Point Campus is coming together beautifully. While it has so??me of the same pains as its predecessor, it also offers more opportunities. It’s recognizably similar while simultaneously presenting something new.

It’s shaping up to be a great step forward in Two Point Studio’s growing concept of Two Point County. It reminds me a bit of 0s era Maxis, where their games seemed to be tied together with a cohes?ive attitude and design philosophies. I’m already hungry to see what other games grow from this unifying aesthetic.

More importantly, however, I’m going to be licking my lips and waiting to get back into Two Point Campus. It’s a flavor of management game that I just find irresistible. Everything I loved about Two Point Hospital is here but layered across a brand new experience. August 9 really ??can’t come soon enough.

It's also worth noting that for the next few days, Two Point Hospital and its respective DLC expansions are available at a discounted price on PS4, PC, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. And if movies taught me anything, there's a crusty, bitter old Dean

Fans of Two Point Studios fun hospital management title were given a new look at the team's next release yesterday with the first trailer for the previously leaked college-builder, Two Point Campus. The new title is in development for PlayStation, Xbox, PC, and Switch platforms, with a tentative?? launch set for 2022.

As one would expect from the fine folk at Two Point Studios, Two Point Campus a??s the trailer below shows will task players will constructing and managing a higher place of learning. From mapping the grounds and building the college itself, to managing the halls of residence, the staff, and the entertainment facilities, you will be responsible for putting together a fun, efficient, and economical college, while providing its students with a range of wacky courses from the sensible (Gastronomy and Science), to the sublime, (a literal "Knight school").

"We hope that the incredible Two Point community will love all the new creative freedom that Two Point Campus will bring and that new players will be intrigued by its setting and the quirky wor?ld we’re? trying to build, packed with our trademark humour and charm," said Two Point Studios co-founder, Gary Carr in a press statement.

The Two Point team is built up of former Bullfrog alumni, including developers who worked on legendary '90s management sims such as Theme Park and Theme Hospital. The team's transition to the Two Point series has been a smooth one, which has resulted in Two Point Hospital being a fun, light-hearted, and deeply engrossing title to while away many an afternoon. Two Point Campus is expected to find a similar audience come launch day. All you need to decide now is w??hether your college will be a Harvard, a Brown, or better still, a Faber.

Madcap management sim gets packed re-release

The console editions of Two Point Studios' Two Point Hospital are set to ??be brought up to speed in the coming months, with the arrival and several paid ??expansions and content packs, previously made available on the PC edition of the lighthearted medical management sim.

Launching March 5, both the Off the Grid and Close Encounters expansions will be available to purchase on PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. The?? former features a green ecology theme, while the latter deals with an alien invasion in sleepy Two Point County. Both expansions feature a glut of new locations, illnesses, equipment and music, and Tannoy audio.

And if you're yet to venture into the halls of Two Point Hospital, then soon will provide the perfect opportunity, as a newly announced "Jumbo Edition" will be launching on all platforms on the same date. This GOTY-style package will retail for around $40 and will include the base game alongside all four expansion packs and mult??iple DLC content drops. A great w??ay to get your new career as a hospital manager up and running.

Finally, a free update will add a new, objective-based "Remix" mode to Two Point Hospital, tasking players with completing certain goals and achievements under specific conditions and time limits. Also arriving in this update w?ill be the much-requested "Room Templates" feature – essentially a copy-paste function which allows players to save commonly used room layouts for easy replication in every hospital that they bui?ld.

Watch out for elevator shafts

Two Point Studios' management sim Two Point Hospital is preparing to swap surgery for spotlights with the reveal of its new Culture Shock DLC, which will arrive on PC October 20?. A release date for consol?es was not announced.

It appears that the new expansion will see the medical professionals of Two Point Hospital tasked with rebuilding the arts and culture attrac?tions of the surrounding Two Point County. Our team will be tasked with helping to produce a hit TV medical drama and running a music festival, all while treating the county's elite from a run of silly new afflictions, such as Stunt Trouble, Writer's Block, and Concertoes.

Frankly, the press release doesn't make it abundantly clear what exactly the new DLC expansion will entail, but the accompanying trailer gives off a vibe reminiscent of Lionhead's mid-'00s release, The Movies. In addition to the new locations, Culture Shock will include 36 new illnesses, 34 new hospital items, three animated cure machines, a new DJ, and a "Fancy Dress" costume pack. Pre-order customers will also bag themselves a zombie outfit, perfect for traipsing the corridors on Halloween like its The Beyond.

In related news, Two Point Hospital players can celebrate the 60th anniversary of developer Sega with the addition of four fun items, including a classic Out Run cabinet and a Space Harrier cycloptic mammoth. The free quartet of items is available on Steam right now.

Time for your rescheduled appointment

After a troublesome delay, Two Point Studios' medical management sim Two Point Hospital is finally available on PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch, following its initial launch on PC back in the summer of 2018.

Blending building layout, budget management, and staff and patient relations with an upbeat, quirky sense of humour, Two Point Hospital is the natural evolution of Bullfrog's 1997 classic Theme Hospital. In fact, Two Point Studios features several notable members of the former Bullfrog team, so anybody who lost many an evening to '90s management sims will likely find Two Point Hospital the perfect cure for what ails them.

The Doctor will see you soon

After an unfortunate delay, we have a release date for the console point of Two Point Hospital, that will finally be open for business on PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch on February 25?, ??following on from its PC release earlier this year.

Set in the Two Point Digital Universe (that I've just invented), Two Point Hospital is a management sim that tasks players to maintain the efficient management of the titular care centre. The console port will not only have a rebuilt UI and control system for the new platforms, but it will also include two previously-released expansion packs: Bigfoot and P?ebberly Island.

Of course, it's impossible not to draw comparisons on Bullfrog's classic 1997 release Theme Hospital. But these comparisons are very apt, given Two Point Hospital was developed by Bullfrog alumni Mark Webley, Gary Carr, ?and Russell Shaw.

Two Point Hospital is ava??ilable now on PC and launches on PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch February 25.

The doctor won't see you now

Two Point Studios has unfortunately had to put the console ports of its fun management sim Two Point Hospital on hold until 2020. The team had been hoping to get the title out on PS4, Xbox One and Nin??tendo Switch before the end of this year.

In a blog post on the developer's official site, Two Point cites that more time for coding and engineering is needed, noting that they're having to "take the game apart and figure out how to fit it into what is essentially a smaller box." which is requiring a little more time than originally planned. "We know you’ll be a bit disappointed by this news," continues the post. "But hopefully you understand why we’re doing it: quality is the most important thing and we want you?? to have the very?? best experience".

Originally released on PC in 2018, Two Point Hospital's blend of kitschy humour and smart balancing of budget, economics and patients will be instantly recognisable to fans of Bullfrog's Theme Hospital. The Two Point team includes Bullfrog alumni Mark Webley, Gary Carr, and Russell Shaw, so fans of the 1997 classic would do well to check out Two Point Hospital when it hits your favourite platform.

Two Point Hospital is curr?ently available on PC, and will arrive? on PS4, Xbox One and Switch in 2020.

E.T. phone hospital

Two Point Hospital is about to be invaded by aliens. Sega and Two Point Studios have announced that a new expansion will be coming to their hit management sim soon. Close Encounters will launch on August 29, 2019, and will bring a whole new range of challenges, buildings, diseases, and characters to the quirky game. I'm sure there will be plenty of references to E.T., Close Encounters of The Third Kind, and Alien.

The official description reads: "In Two Point Hospital - Close Encounters, you'll have to tackle a whole range of new administrative challenges and demonstrate your ability to build, cure and improve to achieve hospital management greatness. This time all sorts of alien species are there to help, or make things worse." You'll find 34 new illnesses, three new cure rooms, and a plethora of challenges to keep you occupied.

As well as the main DLC pack, a smaller "Retro Items Pack" will also be available. Bringing 27 new in-game items, this add-on will be more focused on additional items instead of new locations and challenges. It will launch the same day as Close Encounters and will retail for $3.99.

The disease spreads

Two Point Studios is bringing its acclaimed comedy strategy game Two Point Hospital to PS4, Xbox One, and Switch lat??er this year. Confirmed to be getting both a physical and digital release, players will be able to experience the quirks of Two Point Country from the comfort of t??heir couches or even a toilet on the Switch.

In a nice move, the console version will include all of the DLC released for the PC versio??n. This will likely see the price increase a little (the PC version is $35 for the base game) but will ensure that players aren't missing out on any of the extra illnesses.

"Bringing Two Point Hospital to console is something we always envisioned when starting up Two Point Studios in 2016," said game director Mark Webley. "Our community's number one question since launch has been: 'When is Two Point Hospital?? coming to c??onsoles?' Well, it is happening and we are very excited."

If you haven't given the game a shot, I heartily recommend it. Not only does it ac??curately ??recreate the glory of management sims from the '90s, but the game's particular brand of humor is so off-beat and pun riddled that you can't help but laugh. If the Switch port turns out okay, this could end up being the best sim on the platform.

Good medicine

Sega has announced that its European division has acquired British developer Two Point Studios, best known for their comical hospital simulation Two Point Hospital. Two Point has been taken under the Sega um??brella as part of the publisher's Searchlight program, which aims to boost? the status of talented-but-smaller game developers.

Two Point Studios was formed in 2016 by former Lionshead and Bullfrog developers Mark Webley, Gary Carr and Ben Hymers (hence the inherent ability to create a great management sim). In a press release, Webl??ey spoke of the team's excitement of having S??ega help out with their future projects.

"It's a landmark step for Two Point Studios and we're thrilled to be joining the Sega family," said Webley. "We're looking forward to executing the next phase of our plans as we continue to evolve Two Point County. It's a hugely exciting time to be a part of Two Point and we are here today thanks to the hard work, passion and dedication of our small, but amazingly talented team here in Farnham and the incredible fans that have supported us throughout and guided our continued development of Two Point Hospital."

Sega Europe President and COO Gary Dale also spoke of the publisher's eagerness to bring Two Point on board: "As a relatively new, British-based developer with a global hit al??ready under their belts, we knew we had to move quickly on this deal because they are an extremely attractive investment proposition with a great deal of talent. The Searchlight team at Sega Europe have done a fantastic job integrating the studio over the past two years and the studio have gone on to produce a fantastic title with clear franch??ise potential."

As for what comes next, Sega and Two Point announced that they have multiple projects currently underway, and that we should expect to hear about them within the coming months. In the meantime, Two Point Hospital is available now on PC via Steam.

Contract 34 new illnesses

After curing patients all day, sometimes a virtual doctor just wants to get away from it all. Sadly, illnesses never take a break, because the wonderful vacation destination of "Pebberley Beach" has become infected with a slew of new viruses. Coming March 18, 2019, Two Point Hospital will be receiving its second DLC pack. Set in a tropical ?paradise, this new expansion will offer up players brand new ??challenges to overcome in a completely different environment than the base game.

As the official description reads, "Blaze a sterilized trail through a tropical island for an eccentric millionaire in search of a fabled source of death-defying water." Pebberley Beach will bring thr??ee new hospitals each with a different goal. "Pebberley Reef" will be set in an extreme heat wave, "Overgrowth" features sentient flora that is out to eat your patients, and "Topless Mountain" will feature a horde of sick people scrambling to your hospital for help. This looks like a job for a comedically oversized needle!

Along with those new locations, Pebberley Beach will contain 34 new diseases. These will feature the likes of "Wanderust" (Prolonged feelings of sameness have led to dull, tedious pain and a craving for adventure), and "Blank Look" (The sufferer's? facial features ??have receded out of existence and must be coaxed back with subtle, hydraulic machinery). Players will have access to three brand new treatment rooms as well as a selection of new furniture to give their facilities some tropical flair.

Pebberley Beach will be available for $8.99 on Steam when it launches in a few weeks. Players that pre-order the DLC will get a 10% discoun??t up until launch.

Interior Decorating, too

Two Point Hospital has received an update that adds Steam workshop integration to? the mix. Through the power of modern-day wizardry, fans can create and share their own mods through Steam's network to augment their experience. To kick off your creative juices, a new interior decoration option is also available as part of t??he update.

Interior decoration is exactly what it sounds like: the ability to decorate the interiors. After laying down specific rooms, you'll be able to click through options of pre-existing custom wallpapers and floor tiles to decorate each room to your liking. You can even create your own patterns, which is perfect for the Steam workshop. Developer Two Point Studios has a small guide for what image sizes you'll n?eed to ensure compa??tibility.

You can catch a glimpse of the update in the trailer below. In a convenient twist, Two Point Hospital is also on sale for Steam's "Lunar New Year" sale. You can nab it at 2??0% off it's $34.99 price. Sadly, the DLC is not discounted.

DOCTOR!

Two Point Hospital is a really great revival of the quirky Theme Hospital. It captures all of the humor and charm of the original classic while injecting it with a modern art style that will constantly have you smiling. The one thing it left out, though, was a sandbox mode. For whatever reason, y??ou were limited to the 15 hospitals the game had and the missions associated with them.

In a new update, though, Two Point Hospital will?? finally be jumping into the upper echelon of classic management sims. As the YouTube description for the trailer reads:

So… what is Sandbox: Freeplay? Essentially, it's Two Point Hospital your way. All you'll need to do is play through the first 3 levels of the game?? to unlock it, then you can create sandbox hospitals in any of the 15 levels available in the game!

Along with the freedom to create your perfect hospital, you can tweak a number of parameters to have the game mesh with your specific styl??e. Don't want epidemics breaking out? Turn them off. Tired of seeing patients queue up outside the doctor's office? Get rid of them! You can even copy and paste room layouts to quickly e?xpand your hospital to other buildings.

All in all, it should make for quite the update to Two Point Hospital. I????'m already in love with the title, so having a chance to tinker around with it will likely suck me right back in.

Coughs and sneezes spread diseases!

Usually, I'm quite indignant about any suggestion that my commitment to the PlayStation brand could bite me full force in the arse. I've g?rown complacent about the fact that everything I want either 1) comes to the PS4, or 2) is so bare-bones in terms of its technical requiremen??ts that my cheap-as-chips elderly laptop can handle it, no probs. And if you were to suggest that I piece together a decent gaming rig and stop being so horribly dependent on Sony, you may as well be asking me to remove someone's appendix.

But indeed, it has come back to haunt me, since I currently have no way of running Two Point Hospital -- yes, my laptop is that craptacular. The game is a tad more ??than a spiritual successor to Theme Hospital, with key figures? such as Gary Carr and Mark Webley involved in both games, and operates on the same principle, but with more finesse. Despite the relatively high price point for a non-AAA game, I was very excited about the release of Two Point Hospital, precisely because Theme Hospital was a milestone in my gaming history.

In fact, it is a cornerstone of my gaming history in so many ways. It was not only instrumental in igniting my interest in games, but it was the first title I ever wrote a proper blog post about. What's more, Bullfrog Productions were the first game production company I considered myself a fan of, starting back with Theme Park but fuelled even further by Theme Hospital. So, what was so special about TH and why did it and its siblings attract me to management sims more than its competitors? Grab a KitKat from a nearby vending machine inexplicably placed in the middle of the floor while I regale you with a bit of the history behind Theme Hospital, my background with th??e? comedic cult classic, and a little bit of information on what followed for Bullfrog Productions.

The release of Theme Hospital

Theme Hospital was first released for the PC in March 1997, with a PlayStation port arriving the following ??year. As already mentioned, the game was originally developed by Bullfrog Productions, though Krisalis Software did work on the PS port. While Peter Molyneux came up with the idea alongside James Leach, Molyneux left the bulk of the work to his team while he focused on what would become the critically-acclaimed Dungeon Keeper, which was released just three months after Theme Hospital.

The level of control it gave you in running a well-oiled healthcare moneymaking machine, combined with great UI work, was laudable for the era in?? which it was launched. You could pore over balance sheets and isolate individual points of financial weakness, if "winging it" wasn't your thing; furthermore, to build a successful hospital, you had to have a knack for complicated fields such as architecture and HR. Building a staff room t??oo far away or messing up a corridor layout could be enough for disgruntled employees to threaten a walk-out or for patients to get lost. Yet all of this was conveyed in an entertaining manner, perfectly striking the balance between micromanagement and good fun.

The characteristic daftness of Bullfro??g Productions' games, as evident in the highly sarcastic Theme Park ?(released for a variety of PC and console formats starting in 1994), was amplified in Theme Hospital. The production team wisely decided to use made-up diseases instead of going for realism. Bloaty Head disease, and the treatment of popping your afflicted patients with a needle like a ?helium balloon, was surely one of the most ridiculous ideas ever injected into the traditionally stodgy management genre. It ranks up there ??with deliberately not repairing your bouncy castles in Theme Park and waiting for them to explode, ejecting hapless park attendees 20ft into the air. There were a couple of?? extra perks for pop culture fans, such as Hannibal Lecter being called to see security by the receptionist, who provides a dry dose of wit throughout the game.

This sweet little package of tough-as-nails management sim (just you wait 'til you get to the last hospital, Battenberg) and slapstick wonder earned it high praise on release, getting an 8/10 in Edge and 85% in PC Gamer UK for the PC versions. IGN and Gamespot were both favourable about the PlayStation version, though Gamespot was quite critical of the PC original. If you are inclined to take a trip to the yesteryear of medicine that doesn't involve trepanning, you can pick up Theme Hospital for PC on Origin and on the PS Store as a PS1 Classic (in the US -- it has been?? removed?? in the EU. Boo hoo.)

Theme Hospital wormed its way into my hea??rt, and I ref?used all medication

The question remains as to why Theme Hospital was so near and dear to me t??hat I wrote one of my first ever pieces for Skirmish Frogs on the game, followed in short order by Theme Park World/Sim Theme Park. It's hardly your universally acceptable Mario or Zelda game that kids stereotypically cut their teeth on and it's ??not really playground bragging fodder.

Well, my gaming habits were not influenced by my friends as a child -- I was influenced by my aunt. As a young child of proba?bly just five or six, I had farted about with the PS1 controller while my aunt was constructing “Potatoland” in Theme Park, and by the end, I just about understood what was going on. The more complicated management tweaks you could carry out in that? game involved gaming the fry stand prices? and salting them so heavily that all your park visitors would surely make a reappearance in Theme Hospital for hypertension issues. So, when my aunt went out for the day once and my grandma let me fiddle about with her computer, t??he first thing I did was boot up Theme Hospital. Probably into a save file and not a new game.

Readers, it was a disaster.

I was bankrupt within 15 minutes and had no idea w?hat had gone on. Theme Hospital from that po?int in time became the game I enjoyed watching my aunt play, but for which I would remain resolutely hands-off; exactly the same as with Tomb Raider III and Command and Conquer: Red Alert. In a way, it was ??my first introduction to something analogous to Let's Plays and watching Twitch streams -- I got great amusement out of my aunt's reactions and chatting about what was going on on-screen, but I was happy to forgo active participation myself.

When the game was being offered for free over a decade and a half later on?? Origin, of course, I broke this spell and went all in. Battenberg proved too tough a cook??ie to crack, but I loved all of the preceding levels, even if I wasn't naturally gifted at handling a budget.

A few thin?gs were noticeable on my new playthroug??h of Theme Hospital and became even more apparent when I flirted with the game recently for speedrunning purposes. As a child, I had not really picked up on the bi??ting satire it offered on the US model of healthcare. The receptionist chi?des patients into bringing their chequebooks with them; you get money by experimenting on your patients and boasting more expensive treatment options in your facilities.

Medicine as a service, and one that snatches at your wallet, is something that naïve young Charlotte was not aware of at all. As time has gone on and I've seen the intro to the ??game a few more times, it makes me sad more than anything. It reminded me of how I have it easy. I still find the cynical commentary in the game sort of funny, but it's just so close to my experience of reality that it has a bitter aftertaste now.

Another difference from my experience as a very young child is that in the intermediate period, I have played a heck of a lot of The Sims. SimCity is another series I peered at over the shoulder of my aunt, but playing God on such a large scale never fully appealed to me: I wanted to mess with people's lives on a much more personal level. The Sims tapped into that well of benign narcissism and megalomania that is unparalleled in bored teenagers. And the Build tools in both The Sims and The Sims 2 showed up Theme Hospital's clunky room design and lack of control as to where you could place fixtures. Where I once considered myself a staunch follower of Peter Molyneux and Bullfrog's work, Will Wright and Maxis usurped that position in the early 2000s, and The Sims series left Theme Hospital looking a little primitive in its wake.

Bullfrog's demise

Although shinier management sims caught my eye in the early-mid 2000s, I did often check the PC section of Ele??ctronics Boutique, HMV and GAME for a follow-up or anything similar. I could never find anything to my tastes, and not following gaming news closely as a tween/teenager, I had no clue about ??what had happened to Bullfrog and Mr Molyneux.

Alas, Peter Molyneux jumped ship from Bullfrog just months after the release of Theme Hospital, an important move without which franchises such as Black and White and Fable may never have materialised. Bullfrog Productions carried on until 2001, making my (controversial) favourite Theme game of the lot, Theme Park World/Sim Theme Park. In my defence, my love of a non-Molyneux Theme game stems from the brilliant voice work done on the PAL version by Lewis MacLeod.

Overall, I am reluctant to revisit Theme Hospital through Two Point Hospital because my experience of the original was so potent. However, on second thoughts, there is a lot about Theme Hospital that left me cold on replaying it as an adult with much more gaming and comedic experience. Through offering a state-of-the-art and polished experience, Two Point Hospital could be just the antidote to the jaded feeling I get when I return to Theme Hospital, a game packed full of good ideas but which definite??ly shows every single one of it?s 21 years.

I just have to keep my fingers crossed for a console edition or get that baby gaming rig together??.

Did you enjoy playing Theme Hospital twenty years ago? Do you have any games you returned to as an adult, only to be slightly disappointed? Are you having fun with Two Point Hospital right now? Let me know in the comments down below!

Launches next month

Hospitals have always been a major part of my life. I was born with a rare skin disease that goe?s by many names but the one I've most heard it referred to as is Giant Congenital Nevus. In layman's terms, the disease is an over pigmentation of the skin, like a mole, but covering a great deal of my body. My stra?in of the disease is a particularly bad one. It's in my blood, and I have an increased risk of developing melanoma because of it.

Growing up, I was in and out of hospitals as doctors worked to remove the nevus from my body. I became frightened of going. By the time I reached my teens, I only associated hospitals with pain, blood?, tears, misery, and my screams as nurses pulled the gelatinous bandages from my back. I still get a shiver up my spine anytime I smell cleaning products that remotely re??sembles what was used at Seattle Children’s all those years ago.

Consumption of media set in hospitals helped me get over a majority of my fear. ER and Scrubs were required viewing for me. One of the few games our family computer could run growing up was Life & Death. Those shows, that game and everything else that came after allowed me to see hospitals for what they actually are, not what my infantile n??ightmares con?vinced me they were.

Now, I kind of like hospitals, and as I learned during a recent hands-on session with the upcoming Two Point Hospital, I absolutely love making my own.

Two Point Hospital takes place in Two Point County, a location developer Two Point Studios hopes will be the home of many future games. This management sim is the successor to the classic Theme Hospital and Gary Carr and Mark Webley, a few of the creators of that original game, are on board at Two Point to make this game a reality. The developer has just 16 employees, but there are decades of experience among them. Some of the past titles members of the team have worked on include Black & White, The Movies, Populous, Startopia, and the Fable series.

Mark Smart is the lead artist at Two Point Studios and he was able to give me some insight into the development of the title. Two Point Hospital has been in development for around 19 months and pro??gress on the project has been relatively problem-free, something Smart attributes to the experience of all those involved and their ability to communicate. Of course, as the lead artist, the subject Smart had the most to say about was the brilliant art direction surrounding the wild cases that will come into your ??hospitals.

"It was quite a bit of fun," he said. "We’d start off one of two ways: we’d either have the name, or a terrible pun, and work off that, or we’d start without the name and just fancy whatever ideas popped into our heads. Like a cubist guy. We’d think of that and then try to figure out how he gets cured. For instance, the 'lightbulb head' disease idea came before the name. We thought it’d be funny for a guy to have a lightbulb where his head should be. The original name was something like 'Bul??bous Head,' but then somebody came up with the name 'Lighthe??adedness.'"

Lightheadedness was one of two visually unique illnesses that found their way into my hospitals. The other was the Pandemic, an amusing ailment that caused pans to grow out of a patient's head. To help cure them, I needed to build a slew of different rooms to accommodate their needs. Two Points Hospital's interface makes constructing these different areas a snap with obvious prompts, simple-to-visualize requirements, and a layout that's im??possibl??e to get lost in.

During my hands-on session, I am able to try out the first two hospitals in the game. There are well over a dozen to unlock and the further players pro?gress, the more options and challenges they'll have to account for. Some hospitals start small, but we'll be able to buy up land around them to expand our footprint. The first hospital is more of a tutorial. I'm shown the ??basics of the game, how to build rooms, how to hire help, and how to keep things from catching fire. I play simulation games on my iPad every night, so this is all second nature to me. This first hospital is simple enough to manage without worrying about budget issues, and, in roughly 20 minutes, I'm rewarded my first star and able to move onto the next facility.

Each hospital will have a maximum three-star rating to achieve with the requirements for each location laid out plainly for pl??ayers. I only need to achieve a single star rating in each hospital to unlock the next, a design Two Point Studios h?opes will encourage players to return to hospitals from the early hours of the game, utilising the new knowledge they've gained over time.

The second hospital, Lower Bullocks, is slightly more complicated. It adds new ailments and a new treatment type: Psychiatry. Now I can't just hire any doctor, but doctors who specialize in mental health. This is in addition to my standard practitioners, my nurses, my pharmacists, my janitors, my clerk and everyone else I need to keep my facility running. The 20-minute video below was captured ??during my playthrough of the second hospital and should give you an idea of how the game operates.

You might have noticed that more than a few patients dropped dead on my hospital floor. Don't worry, when it came time for the annual hospital awards, I still took home the award for the safest hospital. I'm not sure if that's a bug or if all the other hospitals are just really bad. Either way, during my session there was one nasty bug I came across that restricted? me from building any rooms. It's a bug most of the team hadn't seen before, but was easily solved with a restart of the game.

I left my appointment wanting more. Two Point Hospital isn't the most exciting game I've demoed recently, but I'm not looking for excitement from management sims. I want easy-to-understand mechanics, fluid animation, a steady stream of goals to achieve, and an inviting interface. Two Point Hospital has that in spades and I can't wait to play the final product when it launches for Windows PC on Augus?t 30, 20??18.

The Doctors will see you now

Despite some Stethoscope based technical issues messing up everyone's microphones, the E3 PC showcase managed to get through a description of new business sim Two-Point Hospital.

Very similar to the classic Theme Hospital, players will build and run a day-to-day health centre, training staff, employing workers, researching medicine and, of course, curing patients of a range of w?acky and weird afflictions such as Turtle Head and Monobrow. I just report it.

Two Point Hospital is coming to PC this Fall.

Try not to kill too many patients

Growing up the diseased child I was, I spent many weeks every year at Seat??tle Children's Hospital, usually over the holiday break, having doctors rip my skin off so they could replace it with skin from other parts of my body, aka skin grafts. From head to toe, I am a complete mess and the painful and frustrating experience has made me absolutely hate hospitals. I hate the look of them, the smell, the sound, everything.

And yet, I can't get enough of medically themed entertainment. From television to film to the wonderful Trauma Center series -- may it rest in peace -- I just love fake hospital settings. That love stretches all the way back to a rainy afternoon at my best friend's house when, after playing Command & Conquer: Red Alert for several hours, I got my chance to try Theme Hospital. I was far too young at the time to wrap my head around the mechanics of the game, but now I'm certainly old enough to get it and will once again try to build the perfect place to let patients die from lupus this year with Two Point Hospital.

From Two Point Studios, a developer founded in 2016 by two former Bullfrog employees who worked on Theme Hospital, Two Point Hospital will task players with building the perfect hospital and successfully treating the patients that show up looking for help. Much like its spiritual predecessor, Two Point will feature a host of strange and funny diseases like lightheadedness as well???? as your run-of-the-mill hospital maintenance issues like ghosts and mummies.

Two Point Hospital is? scheduled to launch this Fall and will be published by Sega. You can pre-register now for a Hospital Pass that will grant players an exclusive in-game item when it launches, as well as exclusive p?romotions and early access to trailers.
