The Ubisoft Forward showcase on June 10 may have had some exciting new footage for Star Wars Outlaws and a reveal for the next Anno game, Anno 117: Pax Romana, but one beloved Ubisoft IP was glaringly absent. Yes, once again, Ubisoft had nothing to say about the long-awaited Beyond Good & Evil 2, and not even the first game's remaster was brough??t up. Naturally, fans of t??he series can't help but be disappointed by the lack of news.

"We have lost again," reads one blunt Reddit post, with a few other fans saying they "expected nothing and [are] still let down." Another Reddit user shared a saddening piece of art depicting Jade and Pey'j, the protagonists of the first Beyond Good & Evil, wistfully staring at a photo of Pey'j as he appears in one of the trailers for Beyond Good & Evil 2. Said post is appropriately capti??oned with the popular "Hello darkness, my old friend" meme.

Plenty of fans admitted they weren't surprised by the complete lack of Beyond Good & Evil 2, but had at least thought the first game's remaster would make an appearance. One baffled fan wrote, "I wasn't expecting BGE 2 in the Ubisoft Forward event, but no remaster is madness." Another concurred, saying, "I cannot fathom why they wouldn't even mention the anniversary edition--not even a teaser or vague release win?dow? Such a sham?e."

The confusion from fans is warranted. The Beyond Good & Evil remaster was formally announced in November 2023 (after it had accidentally leaked online), with Ubisoft promising to share more information in early 2024. We're now? in June, and there hasn't been a single update on its release. Considering this remaster is being done to celebrate the original game's 20th anniversary (which was in 2023), you'd think Ubisoft would want it out sooner rather than later. We do still have another six ?months left of 2024, so hopefully the remaster will still release before the end of the year, but it's understandable why fans are worried about it given Ubisoft's silence on the matter.

As for Beyond Good & Evil 2, who even knows what's become of that project. Some consider the game vaporware at this point, with it being roughly seven years since its E3 2017 debut. It's also the most delayed AAA game of all time, surpassing the previous record holder, Duke Nukem Forever, in 2022. Given its continued absence at Ubisoft's?? gaming showcases, I wouldn't be surprised if the game has undergone some significant overhauls and will end up looking quite different to its initial reve??al... assuming it ever actually releases.

I recently took a look at three different missions from developer Massive Entertainment and Ubisoft's upcoming open-world adventure title Stars Wars Outlaws. It feels like Star Wars is getting a ton of game releases lately, which while good as a whole, has also led to a few missing the mark. Thankfully, it looks like Star Wars Outlaws is staying true to the Star Wars universe, and I'm excited to explore it.

In Star Wars Outlaws, players will adventure to various planets in the Star Wars universe, each one with unique gameplay elements and environments to explore. Throughout the three missions I saw many elements that have become staples all things Star Wars front and center in Outlaws. From zipping across? the desert-like planet of Tatooine on a speeder to walking around a bustling cantina tryin??g to get a meeting with a Hutt cartel.

In one mission, players engage in a dogfight in space while piloting a ship called the Trailblazer with the nearby planet looming in the background. The space combat seemed very similar to that of Star Wars: Squadrons, which isn't a bad thing. Dodging asteroids and space debris while flying around and dealing with enemies is always a good time, and it looks like the systems for doing so are a big part of Star Wars Outlaws rather than just an added sub-feature.

An important aspect of Star Wars Outlaws is going to be the story. The premise is solid, but I'm still looking forward to the opportunity to dive into the massive open-world and explore the side quests and off-the-beaten path areas of Outlaws. But after seeing a few gameplay missions, it looks as though Massive Entertainment and Ubisoft are going in the right direction with the world design and level of immersion that very important to a Star Wars game.

Like half a sitcom of Assassin's Creed Mirage

As the penultimate act of the Ubisoft Forward stream, we saw a lot of footage of Assassin's Creed Mirage. The first revealed trailer, as has been the rhythm of this show, focuses on the story. Unsurprising?ly, this splices together some cinematic scenes to give us an overview of the characters and show off some environments.

Of course, the real meat and potatoes lies in the subsequent gameplay trailer. This provides us almost eight minutes of footage showing what Assassin's Creed Mirage will bring to the table.

That said, we didn't receive any confirmation over whether this was an an open world or a semi-open world. I think they should have included that v??ital de??tail.

Following a bass-heavy, rubber-burnin' new trailer, we were treated to a sizzle reel spotlighting the title's high-?velocity visual effects and globe-trotting environments. We got to see various high-performance vehicles tearing through the main streets of USA, under the neon glow of Japan, and, for the very first time, the tropica?l paradise of Oahu.

We then saw a snazzy ora??nge Lambo which, apparently, "You ar??e excited about as I am".

More importantly, it was announced that Motorfest players can import their current garages of prized vehicles into the new game absolutely free of charge. So you don't have to leave that beloved jalopy behind. The Crew Motorfest launches on PlayStation, PC, and Xbox platforms Sep??tember 14. An open beta will take place betwe??en July 21-23.

During the Ubisoft Forward event, we got to see a pair of new trailers for the upcoming Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. The first of these was an a?nimated trailer, which offers ??a pretty good time if you're a fan of the new design for the titular prince.

Of course, cinematic and animated trailers in the video game world are a dime a dozen. Fortunately, the second trailer demonstrates the proper gameplay of this title, which gives us a bit more to chew on. Director Mournir Radi said The Lost Crown has? a "semi-open world," which I still can't ??get over.

The most intriguing part of this trailer is the showcase of time-based powers reminiscent of the original Sands of Time. While this gimm?ick might be in vogue at the moment, Prince of Persia at least has precedent for it. So far, it looks like time-based mechanics will factor heavily into both the combat of The Lost Crown and exploration of its not quite linear w??orld. It's not a full open world, that I can assure you.

Ubisoft Forward 2023 is underway, and the show kicked off with a new cinematic trailer for Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, which sees the Na'vi once again under threat from the machinations of ??capitalism and man. Pre-orders are now live on PC and console, ahead of a December 7 release date.

No less than director James Cameron himself popped his head through the door to explain the process behind transferring his cinematic universe to the gaming realm. Cameron spoke of the team's aims to "Push boundaries" of creating living open worlds, powered by an original story that will take place alongside that of the two blockbuster movies. This message?? was then followed by a gameplay video, spotlighting the activities of the Pandora universe and the Na'vi civilization.

Ubisoft has released a new trailer teasing its upcoming summer presentation, Ubisoft Forward �The live stream event, which will take place on June 12, will feature updates on an array of the publisher's titles, as well as the reveal of an a??ll-new mystery game.

The trailer, which you can check out below, features clips from some of the studio's incoming wares, including Assassin's Creed Mirage, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, and The Crew: Motorfest. A group of models, impossibly too trendy to be watching a publisher live stream then enquire as to a mystery image, delivering a delightfully wo?oden "Wait. What's that Game?" The September 2022 Ubisoft Forward was surprisingly filled with news, especially for Assassin's Creed fans. But even those who don't like to time-travel had? something to see in Rabbids, BMX bikes, and mobile games.

Ubisoft laid out its short-term plans for several major franchises, before taking the back slice of the showcase to spotlight the big picture for Assassin's Creed. It's a pretty packed show, but we're here to run down? all the headlines for you.

• Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope kicks off the stream, spotlighting more of its gameplay. The customization looks great, and the train battle looks like a really fun time. It's no surprise that, after a surprisingly solid first entry, this might be worth watching. But what is surprising is seeing that Rayman himself is part of the post-launch rollout for this game!

• Skull and Bones largely just shows off more gameplay. After a long, long development timeline, I'm just ready to see this thing out. I'm down to make a big boat and loot the high seas with some pals.
• Riders Republic brings BMX to its lineup of action sports, alongside an Area 51 locale. Please feel free to grind the rails, but keep away from the government secrets and aliens.
• The Division is still rolling out content, as we got a look at some new content for The Division 2 and a tease for two of its upcoming spin-off games. There is a lot of Division in the works.

• Rainbow Six Mobile is getting a closed beta soon. Please be careful about your callouts in public spaces.
• Ubisoft and Netflix are partnering up for several mobile titles, including a sequel to 2014's Valiant Hearts, which is actually pretty rad! More reasons to check out that Netflix games app.
• Here's a tease for the next season of Mythic Quest. I dug the first season quite a bit more than I thought I would! Apparently it's tackling Web3 stuff, which might be a good laugh.
• Trackmania is coming to console and cloud platforms in 2023. Heck yes.
• The new Just Dance 2023 Edition arrives on November 22 for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch. One song highlight to note: "More" by K/DA. Sorry, I dig the fake League of Legends band.
• We break into the Assassin's Creed section of the show with the official reveal of Assassin's Creed Mirage, following Basim in the ninth century as he becomes part of the Hidden Ones. Also, the talented Sohreh Aghdashloo is lending her voice to Roshan, Basim's mentor. It looks neat!

• Assassin's Creed gets some more content, with a mobile game on the way currently called Codename Jade. Valhalla is also getting a "last chapter" DLC, wrapping up Eivor's story.
• Ubisoft confirms there's a lot more going on with the world of Assassin's Creed Infinity, its hub for future Assassin's Creed experiences. One, Codename Red, heads to Feudal Japan. And another, in development at the Montreal office, is Codename Hexe. They also tease that the company is looking into standalone multiplayer options for Assassin's Creed. It will all fall under the Infinity banner, a unifying hub for AC's future.

The Assassin's Creed franchise is getting its hub

Today, Ubisoft laid out the road ahead for the Assassin's Creed franchise. While it looks to a trip way back to Basim in Mirage, several other adventures are on the horizon, including a long-awaited jau????nt to Feudal Japan.

During the Assassin's Creed showcase portion of today's Ubisoft Forward, the publisher confirmed its plans for Assassin's Creed Infinity. This AC Infinity will act as a hub of sorts for Assassin's Creed moving into the future, tying together all the different experiences and locales of Assassin's Creed.

Several studios are working on projects for it right now. And as reported earlier this week, one of them is Ubisoft Quebec, which is working on something fans have likely been waiting some time for: an Assassin's Creed spotlighting shinobi. Codename Red will see Assassin's Creed head to Feudal Japan, p??laying a shinobi character.

Also in the works is Codename Hexe, a project from Ubisoft Montreal with Watch Dogs: Legion creative director Clint Hocking on board. No more info was given on the stream, but reports have indicated this will head to the witch trials o?f the Holy Roman Empire.

An Infinity ahead

All of this is part of Ubisoft's plans for the Assassin's Creed Infinity hub, which may have even more in store. Alongside the two codename projects, Ubisoft's Marc-Alexis Côté confirmed that the publisher is looking into ways to incorporate standalone multiplayer into Assassin's Creed again.

With a mobile project, Netflix partnership, and more in store, seems like a lot of Assassin's Creed is in store for the coming years.

Some Ubisoft games and a live-action Assassin's Creed are coming

Ubisoft is teaming up with Netflix for several new collaborations. Three mobile Ubisoft games are coming to the streaming service's gaming section, as well as a live-action Assassin's Creed.

Announced during today's Ubisoft Forward, Ubisoft is bringing three games to Netflix. The first is a sequel to Valiant Hearts, its animated war story game from 2014, made by t??he original team.

A follow-up to The Mighty Quest for Epic Loot is also on the way. Both of these games are set to launch in 2023, with Valiant Hearts arriving in January and the Mighty Quest follow-up set for sometime in 2023.

The third project is an original mobile Assassin's Creed experience. All these games will be exclusive ??to Netflix users, who can access them via the Netflix app.

Alongside the mobile games, a live-action Assassin's Creed series is in the works at Netflix. We've known this has been in development, alongside several animated Ubisoft property adaptations. Even S??am Fisher is getting an animated ?series on Netflix.

Hidden Blades at the ready...

Summer may be over, but that doesn't mean that the publishers of the planet aren't still eager to bombard us with video presentations packed full of updates on their incoming wares �This afternoon sees the turn of French studio Ubisoft, who takes to the stage for another Ubisoft Forward live stream.

Ubisoft Forward 2022 is expected to focus mostly on one of the studio's flagship franchises, Assassin's Creed, with reveals and trailers for the recently leaked Assassin's Creed Mirage and, if rumors are to be believed, further titles from the historical stealth series. In addition, Ubisoft has announced that it will be providing new updates on the super-silly adventure title Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope and the seafaring, open-world pirate epic Skull and Bones.

These are only the tip of the iceberg, as Ubisoft is currently beavering away with many other projects. These include the delayed Prince of Persia remake, the M.I.A. Beyond Good and Evil sequel, a Splinter Cell remake, the cinematic epic Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. and the as-yet-untitled Star Wars title, so it will be interesting to see what Ubisoft brings to the table over th?e course of the 60-minute stream.

'Multi-game showcase' to kick off fall season

Publisher Ubisoft, conspicuous by its absenc?e during this summer's live stream series, has announced that it will be holding its next premier "Ubisoft Forward" live stream this September, where it will offer news, updates, and reveals pertaining to the co??mpany's current and forthcoming releases.

"On September 10 at 12:00 PT / 21:00 CEST, Ubisoft Forward returns in full force, ready to reveal updates and news on multiple games and projects from Ubisoft teams around the world," wrote the publisher on its website. "Ubisoft Forward will broadcast on YouTube, Twitch, and on our official website. We'll have more to share about Ubisoft ??Forward as we get closer to the event, so be sure t??o keep an eye on Ubisoft News for the latest updates."

Additionally, Ubisoft will host a live stream presentation tomorrow, July 7, focused entirely on its seafaring RPG Skull and Bones (formerly "Skull & Bones"). This spotlight event is expected to showcase extended gameplay of the upcoming adventure game, which will see players engaging in period piece naval warfare on the waves of the Indian Ocean. Currently in development for PS4, PC, and Xbox One, we are still to receive a release date for Skull and Bones �s??o perhaps we'll hear more about the game's launch window during tomorrow's stream.

This villain DLC looks better than the core game

Ubisoft decided to break down Far Cry 6's villain during E3's Ubisoft Forward presentation, explaining how the secret sauce is a golden tongue. To that end, we got a new video with a further look at the father-son rivalry between Diego and Antón Castillo (Giancarlo Esposito), which I'm still a bit iffy on. In Esposito we trust? I mean, Ubisoft typically does the villains right in this series. Speaking of that, enter the Far Cry villain DLC, stage left.

Yes, more important than Far Cry 6 itself, we got a lengthy tease for the Far Cry villain DLC, which brings back the big-bads from Far Cry 3, 4, and 5 to pit them against one another. As Ubisoft puts it: "You are Vaas. You are Pagan Min. You are Joseph Seed. Play as past villains".  Uh, sure! There seems to be some sort of "revival" gimmick to explain why they're coming back: and the original voice actors seem to be returning for their roles. So this is what Michael Mando was talking about! He was teasing the Far Cry villain DLC a??ll along. Mind blown? It seems like a good way to do it all again as a gr??eatest hits situation, and allow them to all bounce off of each other. Vaas definitely outshines the rest, though.

It's all part of the Far Cry 6 season pass, which also includes a Blood Dragon revival. Uh, so the DLC is sounding even more interesting than the real game? That's ab??out right for the series!

...But console crossplay operators will have to stay frosty

During today's Ubisoft Forward presentation, alongside the gameplay reveal of Rainbow Six Extraction, the Rainbow Six Siege development team finally announced crossplay and cross-progression for the tactical, team-based shooter. It took long enough, but it's finally en route, fellow Siege fans.

The new features will allow PC, Stadia, and Luna players to jump into the field together from as soon as June 30. Unfortunately for console operators, the PlayStation and Xbox editions of Rainbow Six Siege will not be joining the crossplay party until "early 2022". That's admittedly a bit of a rough wait, but given Rainbow Six Siege's dedicated community �which continues to grow years afte?r the title's release �these new additions will help grow the excellent shooter title into the new generation.

Rainbow Six Extraction is also coming to like...everything ever

Today during their "Ubisoft Forward" E3 stream, we got a taste of what's to come for Rainbow Six Extraction, formerly known as Quarantine.

Based on the trailer Rainbow Six Extraction is going full Left 4 Dead creatures, with enemies (known as "Archaeans") that have the classic exploding backs, as well as alpha-style elites that are a tad more formidable. There's a focus on stealth, as you take out Archaeans and destroy nests. In other words, it's extremely similar to classic Rainbow Six "breach and clear" tactical combat.

Rainbow Six Extraction also has a progress-loss mechanic, which Ubisoft is calling "risk reward," on top of three player co-op. As our own Eric Van Allen pointed out this looks very similar both in terms of mechanics and aesthetics to some existing games, most notably GTFO. I think some of us were expecting a little more "zazz," especia?lly from the conference that is essentially kickin?g off E3. Still, I'm ready to give it a shot.

It's out on September 14 on PC, Stadia, Luna, Ubisoft+, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, and PS5. Cross-Play is confirmed as are Siege unlocks. September is soon enough and you know, it being out on everything is nice; and the support for Lu??na and Stadia is not surprising given U??bisoft's recent track record. We can expect a decent number of AAA releases from the publisher to focus on cloud gaming going forward.

Far Cry 6, Rainbow Six Extraction, and more

The first of what many would consider the "major" E3 live streams is set to kick off in 30 minutes' time, as publisher Ubisoft takes to the airwaves to show off its upcoming wares for PC, consoles, and mobile platforms. It's been a tumultuous 12 months for Ubisoft, despite its continued market success. In 2020, the publisher saw delays to almost all of its major releases, faced criticism over its approach to political gaming content, and was subject to serious accusations regarding the studio's workplace culture. In the coming stream, Ubisoft will no doubt be looking to deliver a more positive outlook in regards to its upcoming year, with new gameplay footage expected for Far Cry 6, the recently renamed Rainbow Six Extraction, and the newly leaked Nintendo Switch release Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope.

Away from the marketing drive, there are those wondering whether Ubisoft will take any time out from today's presentation to offer an update on both the status of �and the reaction to �its toxicity investigations. During Ubisoft's fall 2020 presentation, Yves Guillemot prefaced the stream with a video statement, in which the CEO apologized to those hurt by the company's behaviour, vowing to implement change in order to make Ubisoft a safer and more inclusive environment for all of its employees. As its first presentation since said allegations came to light, today's live stream provides Ubisoft to announce whether these words have been translated into real, tan?gible actions.

The E3 extravaganza is back

A second year of digital press conferences look like they're on their way, and Ubisoft is confirming its date already. Today, Ubisoft announced that its next Forward press c??onference will be on June 12, 2021 at 12 p.m. P??T.

This Ubisoft Forward will be part of E3 2021, which is back this year from June 12 through 15. The show already has commitments from Nintendo, Xbox, Capcom, Konami, Take-Two Interactive, Warner Bros. Games, and? Koch Media, as well as Ubiso??ft.

Ubisoft isn't saying more about its lineup at the moment, other than it will include announcemen??ts from the company's teams around the world.

In terms of games that cold appear, there's the mysterious new Rainbow Six game that's rumored to be undergoing a name change, and any sign of life for Skull & Bones would be nice. Ubisoft also spent its summer last year addressing reports of toxic company culture, so hopefully ?there are some signs of positive change as well.

Following a canceled E3 2020, seeing how publishers handle a purely digital E3 this year will be interesting to see, as the ESA has insisted it won't be paywalling anything&nb?sp;for its online event. Given last year, I'm still waiting for the summer games mess to throw some curveballs.
