Ubi catalog to roll out on Valve platform once again

Following on from recent rumors and speculation, publisher Ubisoft has confirmed that it will be rolling out its catalog of recent releases in a return to Valve's popular PC storefront, Steam. The lead title will be Viking adventure Assassin's Creed Valhalla, which will arrive?? on the Steam platform December 6.

"We're constantly evaluating how to bring our games to different audiences wherever they are, while providing a consistent player ecosystem through Ubisoft Connect," said Ubisoft in a statement to Eurogamer. "Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Anno 1800, and Roller Champions ?are among the Ubisoft titles that will be releasing on Steam."

Ubisoft had been regularly releasing its games on Steam since the platform's advent back in 2003, but chose to separate from the storefront in 2019 to publish its wares through its in-house Uplay service �and then later via Epic Games Store. Ubisoft's return to Steam was heralded by several database leaks spotted by known Ubisoft leaker YoobieRE, before the publ??isher finally confirmed its storefront comeback yesterd?ay.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla, originally launched in 2020, is getting set to receive its final DLC update �titled The Last Chapter. As such, this is a smart time for the game to make its Steam debut, allowing new players to pick up the epic adventure alongside all previously released DLC content. The next Assassin's Creed title, Mirage, is currently in development at Ubisoft.

Out with Uplay, in with Ubisoft Connect

Ubisoft's Uplay is going away. Before you start celebrating too vigorously, it's only going away in name. More than a decade after it first showed up alongside Assassin's Creed II, Uplay is being rebranded to something that better suits every company's ambition?? to curate an ecosystem.

This mo?rning, Ubisoft unveiled the new Ubisoft Connect. It seems to be a lot of what Uplay already ??was. There's still a rewards program where accomplishing in-game feats earns currency for buying perks. It's still a client for launching PC games. 

However, one big change is that Ubisoft Connect will support cross-platform saves on "as many future titles as possible." Of course, you'll have to buy the games on multiple platforms to make use of this feature. But, picking up an Assassin's Creed on a super sale years down the line might look more attractive when you know that you have a bunch of progression from another platform. Many of Ubisoft's games are padded-out affairs, and the? assurance that you're not always starting from scratch is enticing.

There are a few other tweaks to Ubisoft Connect. The UI has changed, probably to look more streamlined and current. Ubisoft has created a cross-platform friends list. There's been an overhaul to the "Sam" AI who doled out game tips?; now it's called "Smart Intel" and is supposedly better at its job. (Are any of these video game advice-giving assistant??s actually good?)

The headliner is definitely the cross-progression, though. Ubisoft has already confirmed that it's coming to Hyper Scape, Watch Dogs: Legion, Assassin's Creed: Valhalla, Immortals Fenyx Rising, and Riders Republic. All you need is a free Ubisoft Connect account to unlock the functionality. Ubisoft Connect kicks off alongside the launch of Watch Dogs: Legion on October 29. Maybe some cross-saves ?will quiet down all that rioting in the UK.

There's a crack in the hourglass

Ahead of today's Ubisoft Forward presentation, a previously rumoured remake of 2003's Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time has been leaked via the Russian version of?? Ubisoft's Uplay store.

Suitably titled "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake," the new listing was swiftly removed from the Uplay dashboard, but not before ResetEra user AndrewDTF pulled a few shots from the store page. This was then followed by a brief GIF, which popped up on Twitter co??urtesy of user ?@zavtracast.

The visuals in this sneak preview are a little lackluster, but this is hardly the best way to get a first impression for the incoming remake. We'll know all of the details come this afternoon, when Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake is officially revealed as part o??f the Ubisoft For??ward live stream.

So, the Watch Dogs 2 giveaway didn't go to plan yesterday. Ubisoft's login system was overwhelmed by traffic during the Ubisoft Forward stream, so no one could claim their free copy of Watch Dogs 2. You know that can't be the end of the story.

As a makegood, Ubisoft is extending the promotion until July 15 at 11:59 Pacific. That's right -- you have more than two full days to nab Watch Dogs 2 for free through Uplay on PC. That's a lot more generous than the initial window of "Sign in during th??e Ubisoft Forward stream" which was only 45 minutes long??.

The registration process is simple. Visit this page, click that registration link, and sign in. If you're having trouble remembering ??your login, there's a chance that your Uplay ac??count is tied to your PlayStation Network ID or Xbox Live.

Anyway, Watch Dogs 2 got a lot of love back in 2016 as a sequel that vastly improved upon the original in a lot of ways. If you're in the mood for an open-world Ubisoft game right now -- and that's 100 percent the sort of thing that sounds either very desirable or very not-desirable depending on your tastes -- this might be the deal for you. If you're particularly enamored, maybe it'll get you all geared up to take back London this fall.

In Hyper Scape, Game Plays You

During today's Ubisoft Forward presentation, the publisher offered more info on its multiplayer shooter Hyper Scape, which is now available in Open Beta on PC.

In 2054, the planet is plagued by a bounty of technology bu??t very little in the way of happiness or resources. To keep the populace of cramped mega-cities distracted and entertained, the virtual world "Hyper Scape" is created, offering citizens explosive multiplayer action and fast-paced adventure with the promise of fame and prizes. But does Prisma - the mega-corporation behind Hyper Scape's creation - have a sinister motive behind the spreading obsession with this virtual past-time?

I mean... It's Ready Player One again, right? Mega-cities plagued by too much tech, bored citizens living in terrible conditions, virtual worlds created by an evil mega-corp. All that's missing is an abundance of DC Comics cameos and a head-shakingly unearned sequence based on Stanley Kubrick's The Shining.

Log into Uplay once the main show starts at noon Pacific

[Update: Ubisoft Forward is starting, and the promo is now live! Note that Uplay is down today periodically, but Ubisoft says everyone will be getting the reward.]

Ubisoft is hosting its not-E3 stream on Sunday, July 12, and if you show up, you can snag a free PC copy of Watch Dogs 2. You'll need a Uplay account &?nda??sh; and there's a limited window – but that's the deal.

As noted in this blog post, viewers will need to tune into the Ubisoft Forward presentation starting at noon Pacific while logged into their Uplay account. Keep in mind, there's going to be a pre-show segment earlier that morning, so if you hop on and you see Trackmania, you're too early for Watch Dogs 2. If they're recapping the announcements in the post-??show (starting at 12:45 p.m.), ??you're too late.

Is this freebie worth the trouble? For some people, definitely. It's a good sequel. It's still an open-world Ubisoft title – something you may not be down for in 2020 – but it's one of th??e better ones, I'd say.

As for the Ubisoft Forward stream, I can't say we're thrilled about the Sunda??y time slot.

Pyramid Scheme... wait...

If you fancy getting away to Ancient Egypt for a spell, then you're in luck, as Ubisoft is letting Uplay users check out 2017's open-world adventure Assassin's Creed Origins for free all weekend.

If you have Uplay installed on your PC, then all you need do is download the game from the store, and then you can enjoy all of? the pyramid-climbing, neck-stabbing action that this, the 10th installment in the storied fra??nchise, has to offer. The free-to-play period begins tomorrow, June 19, and will run until Sunday, June 21.

While perhaps not the best that the Assassin's Creed series has to offer, Origins certainly represents a watermark moment for the franchise. Origins redefined certain stagnancy within the series' action, while also exploring grander, brighter locations after a slew of grim cities and towns. The ideas birthed in Origins would be further expanded upon in the excellent Assassin's Creed Odyssey, and will no doubt be carried forth in the recently revealed Valhalla, which is set for release later in 2020.

A sharp brain is the sharpest blade

Assassin's Creed Origins had a staggeringly big recreation of Ancient Egypt, a sandbox that was absolutely overwhelming in size. The same goes for Assassin's Creed Odyssey and Ancient Greece but to an even more extreme degree. Odyssey was so incredibly large.

These worlds can feel tough to explore in-game, as the Assassin's Creed formula keeps pulling you in all directions ??to tick off menial objectives of all types. Sometimes you just wanna breathe and take in the sights, maybe lea??rn a thing or two.

That's why Ubisoft created no-combat Discovery Tour modes for both Origins and Odyssey. Discovery Tour is all about being leisurely and educational. For anyone who wants to learn, this mode has a vast museum-like guided tour ??component that delves into all aspects of the Greeks and Egyptians. For those who just want to be immersed in the worlds without any pressure, there's th??e freedom to roam about free of any traditional video game challenges.

Discovery Tour is usually a $20 standalone product (or free for those who already own the base Origins and/or Odyssey games), but Ubisoft is giving them away for free for the next week on PC through Uplay. It's a part of Ubisoft's COVID-19 "learn while staying home"-type initiative, so that students have access to some more educational materials while schools are closed down. Also, this is a permanent thing. Claim one or both Discovery Tours before May 21, and you get to keep them forever. While you're at it, claim Rabbids Coding for free and learn some basic-level programming skills.

Ubisoft has a month of stay-at-home deals planned

Rayman Legends is a fantastic game, and if you've somehow avoided it since 2013, here's a chance to get it for free. The eye-catching platformer is up for grabs on PC until April 3, 2020, at the Uplay store.

Seriously though, if you haven't run through Castle Rock before, I can't recommend it enough.

This free game deal is a part of a wider initiative underway at Ubisoft in light of COVID-19 and the ensuing stay-at-home orders. The company is hosting "a month-long series of ??offers, trials, and discounts to he?lp everyone who is following health authorities' guidance by staying at home."

Too steep a price?

Ubisoft's messy merc shooter Ghost Recon Breakpoint will be free-to-play this weekend on PS4, PC and Xbox One. All you need d??o is download the title on your platform of choice, and you'll be good to ??go until Monday, March 30.

The free weekend will offer up the entire game, including its single-player camp?aign, multiplayer modes, and the all-new "Immersive Mode," which strips down the visuals to a minimal HUD, reduces health regeneration, and removes all bonuses and effects provided by leveled equipment and tiered loot.

Ghost Recon Breakpoint was not Ubisoft's finest hour, as the game launched in October to a harsh reception from both critics and players. Despite this, Ubisoft has continued to support the title since launch, with numerous updates, fixes and balance tweaks across the board??. The horse might be long out of the barn on this one, though.

If you never got the opportunity to experience ethereal adventure Child of Light, now is the perfect opportunity, as Ubisoft is offering the 2014 title free-of-charge to all PC players. All you have to do is visit the Ubisoft Store and register a copy between now and March 28.

Launching on last-gen consoles, before eventually transitioning to the current generation, Child of Light is a beautiful side-scrolling adventure, in which the player must guide a recently deceased young hero, Aurora, on a quest to rescue the sun, moon, and stars from the clutches of the sinister Queen of the Night. Child of Light received praise from critics and fans for it?s spirited visuals, classic storytelling, and unique rhyming d??ialogue.

Breach, bang and clear

Ubisoft has filed suit against website Mizusoft, who it claims had sold "hundreds of thousands" of dollars worth of cheats to players of tactical shooter Rainbow Six Siege.

The Mizusoft site, owned by "J.V.L" (a pseudonym to protect the minor's identity) is now unsurprisingly offline but, according to a report on Polygon, previously offered a "Budget Edition Rainbow Six Siege Cheat" service for $77 per month. The package featured hacks that boosted weapon damage, increased F??.O.V, and displayed enemy positions. Ubisoft claims that Mizusoft "bragged to the media that his Cheating Software ruins R6S for other players."

In recompense for the "massive and irreparable harm" caused to Rainbow Six Siege, Ubisoft is looking for the dissolution o??f the company, along with $25,000 per violation. Ten other defendants are named in the lawsuit, but by their Discord handles only, as it is believed Ubisoft has only obtained the identity of Mizusoft's primary owner J.V.L.

In the past year, Ubisoft has taken a zero tolerance policy towards cheaters and griefers in Siege, banning thousands of users with regularity, and constantly tweaking the game's BattlEye service to watch for shifty behaviour patterns and repeatedly reported players. Given that the game recently announced of milestone 50 million registered players, that's a mammoth community to police.

Download and play 100+ games for $15 a month

I know, I know – there are enough subscriptions in ??your life already. I'm right there with you. But if you're anything like me, you'll want to stay aware of the goings-on with this stuff. Sometimes, that one right game comes out and it makes more sense to burn through it with a subscription than buy it outright. I've done that before with EA Access, and chances are I'll eventually do it again with U??play+.

Ubisoft's video game subscription service Uplay+ launched today and it functions similar to other publisher-led programs. For $14.99 per month, you can download 100-ish games (and their respective DLC), with upcoming releases like Ghost Recon Breakpoint and Watch Dogs: Legion on the docket.

Here's the list of PC games included in Uplay+. It's a lotta Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, and Tom Clancy along with back-catalog titles like Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, the Might & Magic series, and Petz Horsez 2. Other perks include early access, betas, and premium-edition content where applicable.

If you're mildly curious, there's a free trial running until September 30, 2019. That said, some users are having trouble subscribing to Uplay+ (Ubisoft is investigating the issue), and one of the service's most notable inclusions, Anno 1800, is temporarily unavailable to play ("due to technical reasons").

I'm not interested in Uplay+ right now, but I very well might loop back around for Watch Dogs.

For Honor, for keeps

If you wait long enough, just show a little patience and hold out, For Honor will be free. If that describes?? you, your self-control is rewarded.

Ubisoft is again giving away the standard edition of For Honor on PC through Uplay. It's not the most complete and current version of the game; that will cost some money. But, it's also not the starter edition which is the most bare bones For Honor gets. It's the standard edition, which has all the content from?? the game's launch two y?ears ago -- including the 12 heroes and 7 multiplayer modes.

You have until August 27 to claim your free copy of For Honor. Once you nab it, it's yours to keep forever. If this deal seems familiar, maybe it's because the Epic Games Store offered the exact same thing just two weeks ago.

Subscriptio??n services are an everyday part of society now. You can subscribe to watch video programming on demand. You can subscribe to have ready-to-cook meal ingredients arrive at your doorstep. You can subscribe so that your dog gets a box of random treats every month. If you want it, someone's selling a subscription service for it.

Uplay+ is more expensive than some of its competitors, like, say EA Access. However, Uplay+ offers upcoming games as part of its library, rather than forcing subscribers to wait months until they're eventually added. It's not for everybody, but it's for somebody.

If you're on the fence, Ubisoft is holding a free promotional trial for Uplay+. It's free from September 3 through September 30 (although you need an active credit/debit card to sign up). As long as you cancel before October 1, you won't be charged $15 for the next month. However, you need to sign up before August 15. My advice: jump aboard Anno 1800

It's rare for me to buy games through the Ubisoft Store, but I'll at least take a glance whenever there's a seasonal promo. Right now through July 8, U??bisoft is hosting a summer sale with PC game deals.

This is my opportunity to tell you that Anno 1800 is worth a look if you're partial to city-builders. While we're still seeing activity in the genre with games like Cities Skylines, there's something to ??be said about rolling back the clock. I'm not always in the mood for a modern-day setting and everything that entails.

Anno 1800 isn't the simplest of games, particularly when it comes to running multiple island outposts across multiple maps with trade routes tangled between them and other fact??ions bothering you, but it starts off easy enough. Once y?ou get a feel for the infrastructure and your people's needs, it's bliss.

No, really! Laying out cities one block at a time in Anno is among my favorite things I've done in video games this year. There's always room for improvement, and before I know it, hours have ?flown by.

As an aside, if you saw a troublesome message on Uplay earlier today, you weren't alone. Some users were warned their account was "accessed from another location" when, in fact, it wasn't. The error was "due to [a Uplay] service outage and not because your account was compromised," Ubisoft said.

Ubisoft's Brenda Panagrossi stood on stage tod??ay and announced Uplay+, a subscription service that allows access (and early access) to Ubisoft's library. For $14.99 per month, subscribers would have the ability to play the premium editions of game?s, including all downloadable content.

Uplay+ launches this September, but next year it will also be coming to Google's Stadia streaming platform. Anybody who signs up before August 15 will get to try out the service for fr?ee? for the month of September.

Ubisoft is hosting a Rayman 2 speedrun right before E3

Here's a bit of a strange one. During E3 week, Ubisoft is giving out Rayman Origins, a gorgeous game that any and all platformer fans should check out. You won't have to attend the gaming expo in-person to earn the free PC title, but you will need to watch half an hour of a live stream – specifically, a Rayman 2 world-record speedrun attempt in honor of the game's 20th anniver??sary later this year.

When is it? Monday, June 10 at 10:30am Pacific. What do you have to do? Link your Twitch and Uplay accounts and catch 30 minutes or more of the live stream to get Rayman Origins on PC as a Twitch Drop. Glackum is the speedrunner in question, but you can tune in on Ubisoft's Twitch channel. The Rayman 2 record recently shifted to? a player named Darnok_PL. The time to beat is now 1:15:22.

Basically, this stunt is a lead-in to Ubisoft's own E3 conference at 1:00pm Pacific on June 10. You probably have big??ger and better things going on, so maybe just run ?the stream in a minimized window.

Not gonna lie, I dearly miss UbiArt and w?ish more games us?ed that engine.

A confession: In my entire life, I have never played a single Anno game. 

Oh sure, I am, at least, aware of the Anno series. The long-running strategy franchise is terrifically influential to many PC gamers, and it's hard not to know its name at a bare minimum. And yet, despite all that, not a single byte of data related to an Anno play session has crossed into my computer before this weekend, when I downloaded the review copy of Anno 1800, Blue Bytes' latest effort.

I have to say, that damn game ate my whole Sunday, and I don't regret a minute?? of it so far.

It should be said that I'm not even out of the story campaign, whose four chapters make up an extended tutorial for the game that opens up into its standard "Sandbox" mode. I've yet to discover the game's more advanced buildings, and as of this writing haven't even uncovered Anno 1800's main new feature: The ability to colonize "The New World" and use its unique environs and qualities to enhanc?e my home territories.

And yet, the game?? is easily the most engaged I've been with a city builder in quite a long time. I was genuinely shocked when a posh British announcer notified me that I'd been playing for four hours straight.

Part of that is the visual charm the game exudes. Returning to a history-inspired aesthetic after the sci-fi futures imagined in Anno 2070 and 2205, Anno 1800 takes inspiration from the 19thcentury, the age of industrialization and the height of European coloni??al dominance. Players are cast in the role of a nondescript western colonizer with nothing more than a fertile island and trading post to their name. 

From those humble beginnings, they'll build residences to house their population, extraction buildings to gather up resources, production buildings to refine those resources, and build infrastructure (mainly roads and railway??s) to cart resources to and fro. They'll settle other islands on the map and establish trade routes with nearby AI factions (or other players) to make more money or fill resource gaps with commerce. 

So far, so city-builder, but Anno 1800 seems to add in some interesting twists on the regular formula. Unlike larger-scale, simulation-style builders like the SimCity games, Anno 1800's driving pressure is ensuring an adequate labor supply for the game's many, many production-related facilities. Rather than a general pool of available warm bodies, Anno's labor force is segregated by tier, and interestingly, each tier is nece??ssary at all stages of a settlement's? development.

Early on, low-level Farmers are all one needs. They demand little and pay less in taxes, but are needed to run the many farms and rural production structures in the early-game tech tree. As farmers have their various needs met (an ample supply of fish, coveralls, and booze goes a long way in the colonial era), their residences can be upgraded to house Workers instead, unlocking more advanced buildings. Every tier of Anno laborer, from Farmers to W??orkers to Artisans to Investors (plus the tiers unique to New World colonies) sees some use in a healthy settlement, pressuring players to maintain supplies of every necessary laborer throughout their ?game.

One of the things I like most so far is that almost nothing is simply a straight "upgrade" of another thing. Even t??he lowliest farmer finds use supplying the growing complexity and demands of an ??advancing society.

That's the idea, at least, and? admittedly, I'm not far enough along in my first session to really s?ee how that plays out. Even the cheesy (but detailed) story campaign takes its time unfolding the more advanced concepts. 

For what it's worth though, it's easy to see why Anno was so well-regarded by its fans. If Anno 1800 i??s at all representative of its peers, I could grow to regret not getting into the series?? sooner.

Users can select from three relatively recent games

Ubisoft is offering a bonus game with digital pre-orders of The Division 2 on PC to entice players into plunking down their cash ahead of launch. Anyone reserving a copy from the Epic Games Store or Uplay before March 14, 2019, will be able to redeem a gratis copy of Watch Dogs 2, Far Cry Primal or Ghost Recon Wildlands for play. The offer extends t?o customers that have already pre-ordered the upcoming MMO-lite title and will be valid until March 31, 2019.

To redeem your copy, you need to make sure The Division 2 shows up in your Uplay library. Once it does, head over to this website and fill out the form to get your extra game. You don't need to pre-order anything beyond the standard edition of The Division, so don't worry about dropping more cash. The offer is apparently valid to di?gital copies bought at brick and mortar stores, though I can't think of any retailer beyond GameStop offering such a thing.

I can't knock Ubisoft for wanting to reward customer loyalty, but I do find it funny that the first Division isn't being offe?red. I suppose it would be silly to jump into a sequel without having?? played the first, but weirder things have happened.

Whoever loses, we win!

Ever since launching its own storefront, Epic Games has been making a big push to corner some of the digital markets on PC. Clearly aiming some of Valve's pie, this push has seen Epic not only acquire some pretty big exclusive launches but poach others right from Valve. There's a lot to be said on the subject, so Dan and I sat down to discuss our t?houghts on Epic's mo?ve into Steam's backyard.

Ultimately, consumers will come out on top. Whether or not Valve actually learns anything, this is likely to get different publishers thinking about how they can clean up their own digital storefronts and provide more user accessibility. Steam didn't get to the place it is overnight, so hopefully, we'll see that same kind of growth ??happen for Epic.

Lunar New Year (a.k.a. Chinese New Year) is right around the corner, so Ubisoft is throwing a big Uplay sale to celebrate. Free-play event from Dec. 13 - 17

Now that PvP and rambunctious new Demolition Derby events have made it into The Crew 2, Ubisoft is wisely taking the opportunity to get more eyes on the flawed but fun game. It's holding a free weekend event from Thursday, December 13 to Monday, December 17 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. If you're thinking of playing the latter version, you can preload The Crew 2 right now through Uplay.

The most recent update was a good one, with tweaks to the AI, handling, collisions, and camera behavior among additions like Daily Contracts, which dole out? in-game curr??ency for completing tasks. For the average onlooker, though, PvP and Demolition Derby are definitely the attention grabbers.

Players who participate in the free weekend will get a little something extra for their effort. On PS4, it's the Maserati Gran Turismo S 2009 – Touring Car Edition. On Xbox One, it's the BMW Z4 GT3 2011. And on PC, Ubisoft is giving out the Ford GT 2005 – Touring Car Edition in The Crew 2.

Use it or lose it

For years, I've accrued reward points for playing Ubisoft games without going out of my way. I might spend points to, say, unlock a new weapon skin in Far Cry 5 or a car in The Crew 2. It's also possible to cash in your fun bucks for a 20 percent discount on the Ubisoft Store (though I'm not exactly in the habit of buying games there). I pay little to no attention to Ubisoft's loyalty program, and I feel l?ike the same could be said for many of you. Starting next year, there will be a bit more pressure to ke??ep tabs.

As of April 1, 2019, all loyalty points you earn will last for 24 months, after which point they will expire and "automatically disappear from your Ubisoft Account." Under the old system, you could hoard the so-called "Club Units" indefinitely. Now, they will have a two-year lifespan once they're earned. Ubisoft has added?? that whenever you make a purchase, "the oldest Club Units will be redeemed first."

To sum it all up, here's an example taken from the company's support FAQ:

There is a trans??ition period: you have from now until March 31, 201?9 to redeem the Club Units you acquired on or before March 31, 2017. 

As an example, if you had 60 Club Units in your account as of March 31, 2017, those are redeemable until March 31, 2019. The Club?? Units you choose not to redeem will expire on April 1, 2019.

On April 1, 2??019, the new rule comes into full effect: on the last day of each month, any unredeemed Units that are more than two years old will expire.

Ubisoft has a website detailing the Club changes, and if you log in, you can see how many points you stand to lose on Ma??rch 31, 2019. I'm going to be out 35??5 Units, but I feel like procrastinating.

In fact, the two priciest editions will come with early access on Tuesday, October 2nd - a full 3 days before the official release date. Assassin's Creed Odyssey Pre-Order Bonus

Picking up any of the editions of Assassin's Creed Odyssey, whether for the PC or console will net you a bonus "The Blind King" additional mission DLC. Strangely, details on the mission have been light and there actually have been theories and discussion surrounding who the? "king" is that is being referenced in the DLC namesake. If you're a casual Assassin's Creed or history fan, then this is probably a moot point for you. While it is a bit annoying that content is being tucked behind a pre-order exclusion, based on experience in the past these DLC missions are made available for free through Ubisoft Club (free to join) about a month after the game is fully released.

Assassin's Creed Odyssey Ultimate Edition Comparison

Ubisoft has taken money-grab to the next level, with Assasin's Creed Odyssey having four editions on launch  (excluding collector's editions). With list pri??ce as high as $120, you'd think yo?u'll be receiving some sort of physical bonus such as a figure, statue, or other forms of collectibles. You'll be dead wrong as everything is digital.

If you want physical goodies, you'll have to opt for the Collector Editions which comes in the form of a Spartan ($159.99) and Patheon Edition ($219.99!). For the game itself, the Standard is $59.99, Deluxe is $79.99, Gold is $99.99, while the Ultimate is $119.99. Suffice to say, Ultimate Edition is only for the biggest Assassin's Creed fan that wants everything the game offers.

For simplicity sake, we'll focus on the editions that are accessible to most gamers (the collector's editions are sold in limited quantity and only at select retailers). H?ere's the breakdown:

• Standard Edition - base game
• Deluxe Edition (+$20) -  deluxe pack: Kronos and Herald of Dust gear packs, Capricornus naval pack, 1 XP and 1 Drachma boost

This means if you want the Deluxe in-game items, buying the Gold Edition is not enough. You'll have to buy the priciest Ultimate Edition.

Which Deal to Get?

Now that you know the edition break-downs, which version of Assassin's Creed Odyssey should you pick up? The best deal for Standard PC Uplay copy is currently at Razer Game Store for $48.28 (after using 10% off coupon). At 20% off, this is a great deal for release week. If you're positive you'll be playing Season Pass content - Gold Edition at $80 is also a decent price, especially as you'll be receiving the ?3-day early access as well.

As for the Deluxe or Ultimate Edition? We'd suggest staying away - least we encourage Ubisoft (and the rest of the industry) to continue this pricing strategy for in-game digital items. At the end of the day though, if you're a big Assassin's Creed fan and you have the disposable in?come, at the very least you can reap up to $24 in savings by using the ?deals listed above.

What a coincidence!

Just before the crowd-pleasing Forza Horizon 4 whisks us away to Britain next week, Ubisoft is holding a free weekend for its all-across-the-USA multiplayer racing game. From now until Sunday, September 30 at 1:00pm Pacific, you can play The Crew 2 for free via Uplay. It's not a terrible idea!

The Crew is definitely not as popular as the Horizon series around these parts, but I still have a soft spot for it. It's particularly worth checking out if you have an affection for photo modes. There's this excellent photo hunt component to the game with challenges like flying upside down under the Eiffel Tower in Las Vegas or jumping with a bike while the moon shines behind you like in E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.

A couple of days of unrestricted access to The Crew 2 is enough time to get a feel for its land/sea/air style. Ubisoft recently retuned the pesky AI drive??rs and added a hovercraft racing discipline.

As for current players, I thi??nk most are?? just trying to patiently wait for December's PvP update.

Earlier this year, the developers of Rainbow Six Siege declared their intentions to clamp down on both hate speech and cheating in their popular military shooter. It seems that so far their efforts are not in vain, particularly the latter as Ubisoft Montreal handed out four figures worth of suspensions just this week alone.

Some 1300 players were put on probation for the use of various hacks which enable all sorts of chicanery, from XP boosting to allowing bombs to be defused from any location on the map. The? suspended players will be allowed by in the twitchy world of counter-terrorism after two weeks, although many ar?e concerned that this time period is not enough of a deterrent.

Ubisoft have also stated that the time-outs are not to be considered ??the solution to the problem, and that the developer is continuing in its effort to establish better recognition of problem players on a software level, ultimately hoping to remove the causes, rather than just punish the users.

Today sees the launch of the latest seasonal update to Ubisoft's super-tense tactical shooter Rainbow Six Siege; Operation Para Bellum goes live today bringing with it a host of new features and balance c??hanges.

Of course the best part of each new update are the new Operators. Available today for Season Pass holders and June 17 for everyone else, Para Bellum introduces us to Italian technicians Alibi and Maestro. Alibi is a fast-moving infiltration expert, who can utilise holograms of herself to trick the enemy into giving away their position. Think Arnie at the end of Total Recall.

Heavyweight Maestro comes equipped with cameras that fire short range laser beams "The Evil Eye". These can be used as an early warning signal, a useful recon tool and even to zap laid charges and traps, pretty sneaky. Speaking of sneaky, some of Siege's Defenders can now select a ??bulletproof camera as part of their initial l??oadout.

Along with the new Operators comes a new map, "Villa", a mafia safehouse located within a relaxing country estate. Featuring be??autiful vintage design and sat baked in the warm glow of sunset, Villa b??elies that carnage that will take place within its stone walls.

Along with this new content, various tweaks are being made to Siege's modes. "Pick and Ban" is now in effect, a mode in which each team can nominate an Operator to be banned from the opponent's roster for the next round, however, this bans the same Operator from your team's roster, so thi??nk hard before you make your choice.

As part of the game's re-balance, "Tower" is being removed from the Ranked playlist. Although a ve??????????????????????????ry cool and unique map, its sprawling play area heavily benefits Defenders, as a good chunk of time can be wasted by the Attackers hunting the hot spot down, often running into bored ro??amers, sick of waiting for something to happen.
