If you ask an old, white person if rap music is real music, they’ll probably say no. They’ll probably say something like, “What rap did that was impressive was to show there are so many tone-deaf people out there,” which is what Rolling Stones guitarist and human ShamWo??w for drugs Keith Richards said just a few years ago. But as Destructoid’s preeminent rap aficionado -- I own three Macklemore albums -- I say that shit is whack (Is it still cool to say “whack” in 2018?).

Rap music the soul of a generation. Nah, generations. Songs about surviving in the streets, selling drugs to make ends meet, and busting a cap in some suckas while they played dice really spoke to me as a white child growin?g up in a protected, middle-class household in the suburbs. I mean, it’s like Scarface was singing about my life when he rapped, “Boy you should have known not to fuck with me bitch, brothers like me are making mortuaries rich.”

Now, Destructoid doesn’t touch on rap and hip-hop too much as the tincture of our writing staff is a shade brighter than White Opulence on a Benjamin Moore color swatch, but this is a big fucking month for the genre. November marks the 25th anniversary of Queen Latifah’s Black Reign, Snoop Dogg’s Doggystyle, and today, November 9, is the silver anniversary of Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers). It’s one of the greatest hip-hop albums of all time, and as this is a gaming website, there are really only two ways to honor it: 1) An all-day stream of Def Jam Vendetta (which featured Wu-Tang founders Ghostface  Killah and Method Man), or 2) Do the lazy thing and run 25 video game character?s, one for each year since the album’s been released, through the Wu-Tang name generator. As there is no Twitch stream below, I ?obviously went with the option two.

While the gaming community has made small strides to highlight intelligent conversation and criticism over the years, it's unfortunately widely known by its loudest minority: "trolls." Try as the community might to incorporate views from folks other than white males, there's still an incredible amount of hate and bile. No doubt piling onto this is the latest attempt at a reality show from the producers of Catfish: The TV Series. 

As found on casting sites and Craigslist, Beyond the Keyboard is a program looking for "Fake Gamer Girl TROLLS" who are "sick" of "fake gamer girls and boobie streamers" who amass views on Twitch and YouTube while "real gamer channels" are ignored. Even worse is the main crux of the series that'll have the chosen troll, uh, "confront the phony gamer...face-to-fac??e and show them what geek culture is really about." It's not limited to video game hate speech either as the show is also looking tor individuals who furiously disagree with the following topics: 

Feminism, Gaming, Vegans, Conspiracy Theories, Rival Sports Teams, Syrian Refugees, Im?migration, Black Lives Matter, LGBT/Trans issues?, etc

To put it bluntly, this series will only serve to fuel hatred and further give terrible people more power than they already have now. The only ones I can see enjoying, or even conceiving this premise, are those who already exercise the horrible behavior this series wants to promote. Who thought it was a good idea to force an unwilling person to meet someone who's been viciously degrading them online? It's already hard enough for women in gaming (and anyone who doesn't align with white males), so I hope this show burns to th??e ground before it can ever happen.

I don't even know anymore

UK restaurant chain MeatLiquor is teaming up with Namco Bandai to mark the release of Dark Souls III the only way that makes s??ense; With a hot wings eating challenge.

Starting on April 4, the contest will require participants to sign a waiver and wear gloves before tearing into 20 painful pieces of chicken. The fastest devourer in each restaurant location will win a PS4 alongside a collector's edition copy of Dark Souls III, while the overall greatest food monster in the UK will win a Prestige Edition&??nbsp;with a big ol' statue of the Lord of Cinder. Folks who set a poor time burning the roof of their mouth out will be treated to a par??ticipation T-shirt.

So how did this contest come to be? What is the thematic link here? The tenuous, insubstantial, nearly ethereal connection between the two ideas is that eating hot wings is punishing, and so is playing Dark Souls. Yeah.

Shipped discretely I'm sure

I remember reading once about how retailers voluntarily censored the album cover of hair metal doofuses, Ratt's, Out of the Cellar. The image of a feline Tawny Kitaen creeping towards a cellar door in black leather was just too much for the big box locations of the day to handle. They slipped in the album in a generic black sleeve before putting it on shelves to prevent the sheer sexual energy of the cover art from burning out the retinas of passing children and elderly bake sale enthusiasts. By contemporary standards the album c?over is completely tame, provocative sure, but hardly worth blotting out like a disgraced politician in a Soviet textbook. Looking at it today, I could hardly imagine what kind of pearl-clutching ninnies thought they needed to prevent it from harming the general public.

Apparently, the same people calling the shots in Australian Targets. The retailer has decided to cover up the box art on all of the R18+ games they carry with sterile black and white packaging that contains only the name of the game and an admonishment that it can only be purchased by adults. Presumably, this is done to make the game less appealing to youths and to make it easy for staff to recognize it when little Johnny tries to buy a copy of BloodStorm 3: The Spleen Explosion.

To be clear, Target Australia has every right to decide what it feels comfortable with carrying on its shelves. If they don't want to carry GTA V, or show the terrifying visage of Watch Dog's Aiden Pearce glowering down from the shelves from beneath his ball cap, that's (literally) their business. Still, I can't help but chuckle when this kind of thing happens, it seems like such an comical reaction?? to a non-issue that I'm sure it will be the eye-rolling trivia of the future -- just like Ratt.

Cringey, but also kind of adorable

I know the general response to ESPN's embarrassing attempts at referencing League of Legends will be cutting snark, and I get that. They are painfully out of touch and trying too hard. But I also can't help but find it kind of endearing. It reminds me of when older family members would try and connect with me by asking about the latest Mortal Fighters and if Ren a?nd Kyle, "the fireball brothers," were in it.

God bless 'em, they're trying their best. I think the little basketball court m??ini-map is pretty cute at least. 

Apparently, Gordon Hayward is a serious LoL player in his downtime, which explains the goofy highlight reel. When he's not traveling the country pl??aying games, practicing, working out, and doing all the other things professional athletes need to do, he's finding time to pentakill entire teams. I'll try hard not to think of that next time I blame my poor MOBA performance on "I never have any time to practice!"

I didn't even know he was sick

Almost did a spit-take when I saw this slide into my inbox today. Apparently, Retroism is on the quest to save Bubsy (yes, the platforming feline with radical CATtitude) and wants your help to do it. They're re-releasing two of Bubsy's “classic” adventures under the name of The Bubsy Two-Fur through the Steam Greenlight system and they're asking you to pitch in and #SaveBubsy with your vote. Strange, I thought the Arcane Kids already did a great job of bringing Bubsy into the modern age.

All I remember of the original Bubsy was that you could soft-reset the game by holding down some buttons on the second controller and drive your brother insane. Maybe if they included that “feature” in the re-release Bubsy really would be worth saving.

Sans has been giving people a bad time

Undertale, one of my favorite games released this year, made a very unlikely appearance recently on the 700 Club,?? a Christian television program hosted by Pat Robertson. The show received a question from a viewer about a peculiar skeleton.

"Recently, I was looking through my daughter's phone, and I found many pictures of a cartoon skeleton with one glowing blue eye and wearing a h?oodie. When I asked my daughter why she had such demonic images on her phone, she told me there was nothing wrong with it because it was from a video game. How do I help my daughter not be attracted to ?such demonic things?"

Though the show makes no mention of which video game is being discussed, there's no doubt that the skeleton in question would have to be Sans, the pun-loving, lazybones skeleton from Undertale. How co??uld anyone find such a lovable scamp like Sans demonic?

Pat Robertson urged the viewer to give their daughter something more wholesome to play. "There's got to be some video game that isn't so evil, but those things are filled with violence [...] and bru??tality, it's u??nreal."

It's rather ironic that they're trying to dissuade this young girl from playing Undertale, a game that specifically markets itself as giving players the option to not kill anything. If played a certain way, Undertale is all about friendship, mercy, laughter, and happy feelings, which is exa??ctly the kind of thing Pat Robertson is suggesting they play ??instead.

Of course, if played a different way, then they may actually have a point about Undertale harboring monstrous tendencies. But let's not ?tell them about that, shall ?we?

brentalfloss does it again

Internet impresario brentalfloss has done it again, taking yet another videogame theme song and adding his incomparable lyrical styling to it. For his yearly Halloween event (which he dubs "flosstober") he's taken the music -- that is, the only music -- from the GameCube launch title Luigi's Mansion and given it the treatment that only he can.

Luigi's Mansion was always one of my favorite games and I'm currently still enjoying its sequel on 3DS. I must say, Brent has not only captured the "spirit" of the original game (see what I did there?) but also expertly imitated the voices from it a?s well. His Professor E. Gadd, Mario, and Luigi impr?essions are so spot on, I swore they were from Charles Martinet himself.

'Super Monster Bros by Adventure Time Pocket Free Games'...seems legit

A little iOS game that goes by the catchy name of Super Monster Bros by Adventure Time Pocket Free Games is a glaring Pokemon ripof?f, but that's hardly its most unsavory feature?. This freemium rubbish is most notable for trying to charge up to $100 for various unlocks.

IGN recorded a video of their experience with the game, and it was unflattering ?to say the least. Right off the bat, they almost accidentally spent $100 with the click of on??e button for having the audacity to try to change characters.

Actual gameplay wasn't much better. Super Monster Bros? looks to be nothing more than an overly generic sidescroller where you ?control Charmander in a beret (or a character that you paid lots of money for!) as he methodically mows down the likes of Psyduck and Koffing. If you shoot too much, there's an option to buy more attacks because of course there is.

Surely this? little anti-gem is nothing more than an attempt to make some dishonest money off of a child ?unknowingly spending money on their parents' account. The sad thing is, it will probably happen to someone somewhere.

eBay auction at nearly $6,000

Wouldn't it be cool to own every Game Boy Advance cartridge ever? It's still one of my favorite systems, and I've become obsessed with owning as many carts as possible these last few years. Trips to Japan have me bringing back mint boxes for my favorite titles to display proudly in my home, like art. I want to have a pile so big that I could Scroog??e McDuck in them. 

This eBay auction would do the trick. GameSniped found this listing for every single Japanese GBA cartridge -- 795 titles in all. As you can imagine, at $5,800, the auction isn't going anywhere. I think it's been around for awhile, but this new lis??ting is? trying to get them out there again.

Can you do $600? I'll give $600 right now.

Even if you have no intention of buying, the auction is worth a visit just to see them all fanned ou?t so beautifully. I?? honestly started salivating.

I knew it

I had a feeling that we'd see some version of the Japanese promotional DLC costumes for Shin Megami Tensei 4 here in North America. Japan had several different retailer-themed downloadable costum?es for the?? game's protagonist. Now, so do we, as GameStop ha??s just annou??nced their outfit.

You've got to love the letters "GS" on its chest area. This orange/gold outfit is a pre-order bonus, only available to GameStop customers. I can imagine an Amazon and Best Buy c?ostume, but I'm really secretly hoping for Wa??lmart "How can I help you?" armor vests.

If you haven't heard yet, Shin Megami Tensei 4 is coming out ??this June in a fancy limited ?edition box.

It looks absolutely ridiculous

You guys remember FMV games, right? Well, even I remember them, and I'm the resident baby here at Destructoid. FMVs were interactive movies that, you guessed it, used full-motion videos. Think Dragon's Lair but with real actors on real sets. ??They were know for?? being really expensive and being pretty awful, for the most part.

No one makes FMV games these days (for good reason), but leave it to the guys at Twisted Pixel to bring them back with The Wavy Tube Man Chronicles for Windows 8. In this launch trailer alone, it's pretty clear they were able to capture that late-90s FMV cheesiness, while still adding their own insane, hila??rious Twisted Pixel twist to it (see what I did there?). There's cowboys, aliens, people shooting lasers, and I'm not even sure what else.

After I'm finished with finals this week, I think this will be the first I game I sit and treat myself to playing. The Wavy Tube Man Chronicles looks like the most ins?ane fun I'll ever have for $1.49.

If you didn't have one yet, prepare to get a full-on chub after watching this video. British electronic outfit Hot Chip has a knack for making some awkward hilarious music ?videos but their latest for single "Don't Deny Your Heart" may take the cake.

The video starts with an innocent match of a PS2-era looking football title that slowly becomes something much mo??re ... interesting. Having the announcers continue their dry, repetitive commentary as the football players ascend to dance heaven and start an orgy (NSFW,? maybe?) seals the deal. If FIFA were more like this, I'd be its #1 fan.

Going to have this one on rep??eat, all day. Catchy? too!

During my regular browse of NeoGAF to see if they'd said anything mean about me so I could masturbate while crying, I stumbled across this thing. The video above is a trailer for Spin the Bottle Wii U, and ... wait, what? What the frig is that?

I won't go into any details because it's one of those things that need to be experienced, but suffice to say the trailer is quite interesting. It's also giv??en me a sudden craving fo??r penis. Lots of it. No idea why.

According to a promotional ad in France, the PlayStation Vita is compar?able to a woman with no head and four breasts, two of which jut agonizing?ly from her back like a pair of malevolent tumors. 

What are we to glean from this? That the PS Vita is the misshapen mutant of the game industry? Shunned from society, feared by its family? Are we to pity this poor cursed wretch, raised as it was in shame, and living as it does with i?ntense amounts of spinal pain? Does this chimera possess two arses ... and vaginas behind the knees? 

No, it's supposed to be saying that, thanks to the Vita's front touchscreen and rear touchpad, there's fun stuff to poke on both sides. Not quite as exciting as my interpretation. 

Handheld advertisement by way of rejected Silent Hill monsters. I suppose?? Sony's keen ??to try anything at this point.

In a statement that may cause the weaker-minded to crumble into a pile of insane confusion, Gogogic CEO Jonas Antonsson has declared that solo gaming experiences are nothing but a gimmick and not what games are supposed to be. What? What?

"The single player mechanic is a gimmick -- games are meant to be played with others and it doesn't matter if it's in-person or online," he told [a]listdaily. "The first games were designed as multiplayer experiences, but when computer and console games became a thing there was a need to construct an antagonist and/or a protagonist for commercial purposes. You couldn't depend on people coming together to have ?a synchronous experience over a game. That would have simply stifled sales.

"And since there was no reasonable way to connect people in other ways -- the arcade was the only serious attempt -- it became an industry need to project the game as the o??ther player. Playing a game is a multiplayer activity and can easily be seen as such when you watch young toddlers play by themselves. They invent someone to play with, someone that they talk to and interact with."

The things that go without saying are the most fun to say, so say them I shall. This guy's out ??of his bloody mind and I'm going to rebuke him, point by point. 

• Just because something happened first, that doesn't make subsequent additions/mutations/directions a gimmick. The first movies were silent, that doesn't make dialog fucking gimmicky. 
• A gimmick is a quirky feature designed to stand out from the competition. Since all home console games moved toward single-player experiences out of necessity, they weren't putting in something weird to stand out. It wasn't a gimmick -- it was an industry-wide shift to meet demand and work with what systems were capable of at the time. 
• By the logic presented in the argument, anything designed for commercial purposes is a gimmick. That means everything that exists to be sold, apparently, is a gimmick. This is obviously not true, because it's fucking demented. 
• Toddlers? Toddlers sit around in their own shit and think ghosts are real. Are we really using them to demonstrate how the world should work?
• Toddlers?
• Fucking toddlers?
• Really?

In his defense, Antonsson did say that single-player games could still exist (we have his permission, thank Christ) but that they have to be designed well and appeal to gamers ... which ... should be true of all games, surely? He also said single-player games shouldn't exist just because they're supposed to be single-player experiences, even though he said that they're supposed to be multiplayer experiences, which I guess means multiplayer games don't have to be good ... is his ... what he means to say there ... is ... huh?

Trying to ??understand that guy's point is ma??king me go peculiar.

Those who hear it speak are driven mad with the knowledge of every dark sin committed by human hands. Just smelling its foul stench is enough to render your heart without beat. It is the end. It is oblivion?. It is ... inevitable.

Find out how to play as Levine and other hidden heroes

In dark times, pray upon yo??ur gaming gods and you shall receive redemption. Or, at least, Ken Levine.

Irrational Games founder and BioShock creator Levine makes a cameo in Firaxis Games' XCOM reboot as a hidden hero character. Alongside Levine stand some other notable names, including comic book artist Joe Kelly, ?Let's Play YouTube producer Otto Zander, and Sid Meier (who was shown off way back at E3 this year.) To add these heroes to your party, simply name your characters after them -- but be aware that they'll disable achievements since they com??e overpowered with high stats and unlocked abilities.

Firaxis president Steve Martin, James White, and some other names have been tossed around, but they haven't worked for me. Firaxis said there are more develope??rs to be discovered, so let's keep digging!

In what has to be one of the longest, most laborious GIFs I've ever come across, Pixel Masher has recreated Raiders of the Lost Ark in a 897-frame image file. Even better, it's now modeled as a 16-bit adventure game. It's like the LucasArts Indiana Jones game we never got.

I blew up the image from its original format for your viewing pleasure. It's a tragedy that I've seen others do ??the same, while throwing on gross filters. Use Nearest Neighbor, people. ??ALWAYS!

Food Practice System!

After last year's Mommy Tummy, I assumed we'd have seen the last ??of the Serious Game developer group, but here we are with ??an even crazier, more inventive game that is both genius and hilariously goofy.

Food Practice System is a first-person chewer. At first glance, the game appears to be a standard light-gun shooter with carrots, green peppers, and tomatoes for enemies. Then you look down and? notice food laid out in front of the system: various vegetable snacks correlating to the game's enemies.

When it comes time to reload, you have to chew the vegetable snack that you shot the least of in the game?. You then have to chew as many times as indicated on the screen. The player wears a mic that picks up the sound of eating, tallying up the number of times the food is chewed. Once you've reached the requested number, you need to show your teeth to a camera attached to the gun. If you chewed and swallowed the snack like you were supposed to, it's back to the action.

Screw Fez. This is indie gaming at its finest!

Glenn Beck is a political talk show host who is hard to love for many. Some might say, he is a loud-mouthed liar who loves to exaggerate and sensationalize for attention. You may be able to understand then why game designer Warren Spector denied Beck the promotional Oswald ears for Epic Mickey 2 at the recent GameStop EXPO in San Antonio, Texas.

According to?? Glenn Beck's radio show, the ears were?? given to Beck's friend but snatched back when this friend announced that the ears were for Glenn Beck.

"Anybody who associa??tes with Glen??n Beck doesn't get these," Spector said, according to Beck. After a brief back-and-forward, Disney security came and asked Beck's friend to leave, sans Oswald ears.

Beck is a self-proclaimed Oswald fan and seems to have taken this promotional item refusal to heart, comparing Spector to producer-turned-criminal Phil Spector and saying politics shouldn't get in the way of something simple like?? this.

Beck managed to get an Oswald cap in the end. How he got it, who knows? But, I received the above image in a tweet from Brad Skaar who seems to work for Beck, go?ing by his Twitter.

I applaud Spector for having the courage to make a statement like this. So many people in th??e game industry would just smile and give the item, despite their feelings. I've spoken to Spector on more than one occasion and can tell you that he's always honest. This is a perfect example of that.

Out of nowhere, Nintendo of America dropped a TwitPic on their Twitter feed showing of the upcoming Matte Red and Matte Blue DSi s??ystems hitting retailers this week. I'm sure that the per??son that Tweeted this out did so and ran off, avoiding having to explain to their followers why they'd release new DSi colors. 

So there you have it. Two new DSi colo??rs. Very American colors, too.

Look, I've collected my fair share of uncommon videogames and trinkets. As someone who has parted with upwards of $300 on a single purchase, I understand the desire, the thrill of getting your hands on a ??unique relic that few others will ever so much as see with their own eyes. But when the price on such an item approaches the sticker value of your average compact car, even I begin to feel faint.

JJ Hendricks, a collector who nearly three years ago sold a Nintendo Campus Challenge 1991 NES cart for an insane $20,100, was able to score the ultra elusive PowerFest 94 SNES cart this past weekend for a cool 12 grand. PowerFest 94 was a Nintendo competition cartridge broken down into three rounds: the first level of Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels, five laps in Super Mario Kart, and a home run derby in Ken Griffey, Jr. Presents Major League Baseball. The ?original 32 ??carts were all supposed to have been destroyed, and until JJ discovered this copy, only one other was known to still exist.

JJ's PowerFest 94 transaction wasn't an open-and-shut case. From the first contact with the Canadian seller to the private hotel meeting room payment, this roller coaster ride lasted 27 months. His story actually sounds like a Mafia deal in certain spots, though I figure he has to have some experience in organized crime to be able to ?roll like such a boss. And would believe that the seller originally asked for 50 large? Talk about your slick negotiations!

Well, to be fair, the game's producer Katsuhiro Harada said there will also be swimsuits for male and animal characters, like Kuma -- who, by the way, IS A FREAKIN' BEAR! If you are in the market for scantily cla?d female avatars, you'll be happy to know that Harada also confirmed there will be schoolgirl bathing suits. I'm not sure what that even means but it sounds dirty and illegal, so I'm going to stop typing about it before my apartment gets raided by th??e FBI or something.

With this very exciting DLC announcement, I suddenly feel very confused on whether to purchase Dead or Alive 5 or TTT2. It used to be so simple. One game you buy for fun, and the other you buy to fap to. Suddenly, I don't know which is which anymore. I don't even want to think about how Snoop Dogg factors into all of this.

I guess it all boils down to this: Do you want to fight a bear wearing a bikini and thong?

I'm always surprised by the lack of porn on modern consoles, especially with all the, err, "input possibilities" that motion controls give the user. It's not for a lack of trying though, if Sony Computer Entertainment executive producer Pete Smith's recent interview with Eurogamer is any indication. Smith detailed a Kama Sutra game for EyeToy that he rej??ected, calling it the weirdest game he was ever pitched.

"We were talking about it back at the office. Obviously we didn't sign it and it?? never ever saw the light of day. But we were going, how exactly would we QA it?" Smith said. "You can imagine these two big hairy testers going, 'No, you're the bitch tonight.'"

Sounds like a good time to me! Unfortunately, we will never get our hands or genitalia on what could have been an EyeToy unit seller. Smith isn't a total corporate prude, however. Like of all us, perhaps he sometimes likes to unzip in front of his PlayStation 3 and enjoy himself. Or am I alone in this? ... awwwkwwwaaaard!

"In one sense I think, God, I wish it would have been done," Smith said.?? "We could have maybe got some celebrity endorsements and stuff like that."

You know, because celebrities love hot, virtual sex as much as the next lonely, virginal game enthusiast! At last, we will never be able to unlock the sex-related PS3 trophies that we hav??e longed dreamed about. Here's hoping Sony wises up a?nd publishes a Kama Sutra Wonderbook title in the future.
