The scene shows a conversation at the Time Variance Authority's headquarters between B-15 and Paradox, who she warns not to do anything, as his job is to do nothing and prevent others from doing anything. The problem is, Paradox is a bit bored of his job and he has, in fact, already done quite some things that he shouldn't have. One such thing, namely, was setting all the events of Deadpool and Wolverine in motion.

Matthew Macfadyen isn't present in Loki, as Paradox was only added to Deadpool and Wolverine likely due to Macfadyen's great turn as Tom Wambsgans in HBO's Succession. The scene does seem to feature a bit of a Succession taste to i?t, as Macfadyen spills a bit of acidic humor t??owards his overseer in the TVA (Tive Variance Authority).

Wunmi Mosaku' B-15, Paradox's superior, is largely absent from Deadpool and Wolverine's original cut, a stark contrast to her constant presence in Marvel's Loki. This scene was likely removed because it didn't really add much to the plot, and also to make her reveal at the end of the movie s??tand out as one of those surprise appearances that Marvel likes to have fans clapping about.

Deadpool: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly (2012)

Deadpool vs. Old Man Logan (2017)

An apt entry into the Poolverine mythos, Deadpool vs Old Man Logan (2017) gives fans a taste of the comic goodness on tap in Deadpool & Wolverine. While merc'n again, Wade crosses paths with Logan while the latter searches for a young mutant on the run from the vile weapons manufacturer Genform. ?Seeing their checkered histories involving corrupt government programs in their quarry, Wade and Logan quickly decide to team up and assist this mysterious escapee.

This magnific addition by the talented team of Shalvey, Henderson, and Loughridge perfectly encapsulates the pair's unique ebb and flow. Indeed, the ensuing hijinks will see Wade's vocal cords severed, Logan's signature claws teleported onto Wade, and a berserker rage for the ages. Lastly, in tactfully critiquing Wade and Logan's less-than-stellar fatherly skills, Deadpool vs Old Man Logan reinforces that a book cannot be judged by its cover, res?ulting in fist bumps on this best comic read.

Deadpool: Badder Blood (2023)

Deadpool: Badder Blood (2023) is yet another standout tale showing Deadpool alongside his best bubs, Wolverine and Cable, and a must-read story on the Merc with a Mouth and the Best there is at what He does. In Badder, DP sets out to save his former friend turned Weapon Plus asset Thumper and halt the unethical experiments of Doctor Van Strutten, showing the heart eve??ryone? except him knows he has.

Understandably feeling responsible for his friend's predicament, DP vows to set things straight, leading to his best frenemies joining forces to save him. Complete with the debut of Arcata, her android Killville, and appearances by Spider-Man and Venompool, Badder hits the mark. Tr??uly, the resulting feeling of nostalgia witnessing Deadpool go full circle and finish where?? he began, in the skillful hands of his co-creator Rob Liefield, is as undeniable as this comic's place on this list.

When people think of perfect comic book character movie castings, Hugh Jackman as Wolverine is at the forefront. Despite being considerably taller than the Marvel Comics version of the character (and not a Canadian, either!), Jackman ex??celled at bringing Logan's ferocity, dry wit, and raw emotion to the big screen??.

Jackman will again don those adamantium claws for the highly-anticipated Deadpool & Wolverine. At long last, Marvel fans will get to see him and Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool team up for all kinds of blood-soaked, fourth-wall-breaking fun. Though it stands to reason that this version of Wolverine isn't the same as the one seen in the 20th Century Fox X-Men franchise, given his costume and the fact that that c??haracter's story is over, now is still as good a time as any to look back on Jackman?'s previous Logan performances.

At this point, Jackman's work as Wolverine is well-documented. He featured in a bevy of X-Men titles: X-Men, X2: X-Men United, X-Men the Last Stand, X-Men: First Class, X-Men: Days of Future Past, and X-Men: Apocalypse. Along the way, he found time to star in his own trilogy, consisting of X-Men Origins: Wolverine, The Wolverine, and the aforementioned Logan. While one might think this is where the story ends regarding his past performances, he's actua??lly portrayed the character twice more and two often overlooked projects that are both worth remembering.

Jackman's Wolverine gaming debut came in X-Men: The Official Game

As the wait for X-Men: The Last Stand wound down, Activision released a video game tie-in. X-Men: The Official Game, the story bridges the gap between X2 and The Last Stand, splitt?ing up the titular team as individuals and groups go on different missions. It all culminates in the X-Men battling Sentinels created by William Stryker to destroy all mutants. The villainous HYDRA faction is also a persistent threat throughout the game.

The game allows players to control three different X-Men: Nightcrawler, Iceman, and, of course, Wolverine. Jackman voices Wolverine here and delivers a strong performance throughout the game. His line reads breathe life into the otherwise pretty lifeless cutscenes, and everything from his grunts and groans as he takes damage to his quips as he mows down enemies are delivered perfectly. Gamers also get to explore a bit of his past, learn more about his foes like Lady Deathstrike and Sabretooth, and battle the Silver Samurai long before his movie debut in The Wolverine.

Though the game isn't the strongest X-Men title out there and has largely fallen into obscurity over the years, the lore, the strong graphics for the era, and the performances like Jackman's make it a worthwhile play. Not to mention, the game features Wolverine's comic costume as an unlockable. Seeing as the character model features Jackman's likeness, this game technically beat Deadpool & Wolverine to the punch in putting the actor in suc?h a suit.

Jackman voiced Wolverine in the X-Men Origins: Wolverine tie-in game

After being the X-Men film series's focal point for almost a decade, Wolverine finally received a spotlight all his own in 2009. X-Men Origins: Wolverine promised to tell Logan's tale from ??long bef??ore he joined the X-Men. Unfortunately, the film was a bloated, inconsistent nightmare that remains one of the most widely-maligned superhero flicks of all time. Thankfully, the video game tie-in of the same name performed much better with the general public and is fondly remembered by those who played it.

As one would imagine, the X-Men Origins: Wolverine video game covers similar narrative ground as the movie, albeit with some additional and revised material to make it stand out. Jackman voices Logan perfectly y?et again, making players feel like the character more than the hack-and-slash combat and copious amou?nts of bloodshed already do. Further sweetening the deal, the game includes Wolverine's classic comic book outfits. Once again, the gaming world got Jackman's Wolverine in yellow and blue before Deadpool & Wolverine was even so much a thought.

With these two games in mind, and including Deadpool & Wolverine, Jackman has portrayed Wolverine an impressive 11 times. Only time will tell if he'll make that total grow beyond his Deadpool adventure or if that feature will be his true send-off this time around??.

Over the years, numerous Marvel Comics icons have made their way into the realm of gaming. Alongside such titans as Spider-Man and Iron Man is Wolveri??ne, who has popped up in all kinds of widely-beloved titles.

The many mainline Marvel vs. Capcom games, the X-Men Legends duology, the Marvel Ultimate Alliance franchise, and more all feature Logan prominently, giving gamers the chance to hack and slash through enemies with his adamantium claws at their leisure. At the same time, there are some Wolverine-including titles that have fallen by the wayside as time has gone on, chief among them being X2: Wolverine's Revenge.

The Wolverine game that time forgot

Way back in the early 2000s, Marvel media was in a vastly different place. The Marvel Cinematic Universe had yet to launch, and comic book adaptations were far from "in." Director Sam Raimi's Spider-Man series and the X-Men franchise from 20th Cent??ury Fox carried the torch for superhero cinema in this period, so these characters were some of the few to get the video game treatment.

Though many recognize 2006's X-Men: The Official Game as the only X-Men movie tie-in game of this era, that's not technically true. Wolverine's Revenge was marketed as a tie-in to 2003's X2: X-Men United, complete with Hugh Jackman as the tit?le character on the cover and Sir Patrick Stewart as the voice of Prof?essor Charles Xavier. In practice, though, this is a comic book-based game that has no substantial connection to the movies.

Wolverine's Revenge follows a New X-Men-looking Wolverine (voiced by the iconic Mark Hamill) as he seeks a cure for a deadly illness called the Shiva Strain, which he was infected with during his time in the Weapon X program. With only two days to find the cure before it kills him, he traverses frozen tun?dras and mercenary-filled bases. Along the way, you'll ba??ttle villains Magneto (Fred Tatasciore), Sabretooth (Tatasciore), and Lady Deathstrike (Gwendoline Yeo) and encounter fellow X-Men like Colossus (Ted Nordblum) and Rogue (Jennifer Hale).

In terms of gameplay, Wolverine's Revenge is interesting. Despite Wolverine's reputation for running around tearing his enemies to shreds, there's quite a heavy emphasis on stealth here. You find yourself using heightened senses to do everything from track?? and stealth kill enemies to spot hidden landmin?es.

If you do try to brute force it from checkpoint to checkpoint, you'll quickly be on the hunt fo??r health pickups or in use of Wolverine's healing fac??tor.

Thankfully, enduring the tedious stealth and being mindful of your health does?? allow you to have some beat 'em up fun here and there. You can punch, kick, and claw your way through enemies, even throwing them around if you so choose. Wolverine also has a special Strike move capable of damaging one or more enemies with the push of a button.

As with all great games of the era, Wolverine does have a rage meter that fills up by attacking enemies and taking damage. When it's full, Wolverine can temporarily enter Feral Rage mode. Movement speed and dama??ge output wi?ll increase for the duration.

Why X2: Wolverine's Revenge became a forgotten Marvel video game

So, what went wrong that led to Wolverine's Revenge being in relative obscurity for over 20 ye??ars? For starters, the story isn't the most captivating, and the overall?? presentation isn't very enticing.

Much of the game is draped in a gray, black, and white color palette, so it's not much to look at. Worse yet, the stealth and combat mechanics are clunky, which one could forgive if it wasn't for the difficulty curve being so steep. Wolverine's Revenge loves to thr??ow enemies and harmful obstacles at you in spades, with health pickups and checkpoints f??rustratingly spaced out.

Simply put, there were better-looking and more enjoyable X-Men games out at the time of the game's release, making it hard to put in the work to enjoy it. As its contemporaries soared to new heights, Wolverine's Revenge bec??ame increasingly less impre??ssive. Those who played it as kids way back when might have a soft spot for it, but if they pick it up today, it likely won't take long for the nostalgia to wane.

Wolverine is an indisputable Marvel icon. After all, the opportunity for Jackman to go back on his Wolverine retirement for Deadpool & Wolverine likely wouldn't have arisen if there wasn't so muc?h love and passion out there fo??r the character.

Sadly, Wolverine's Revenge didn't quite live up to the titular hero's legacy then, and it certainly doesn't all these years later. Sure, there's some fun to be had with it, but it's far from the definitive Wolverine gaming experience. One can only hope that Insomniac's Wolverine doesn't follow a similar path to Wolverine's R??evenge, lest it become just another so-so Marvel game lost to time.

No blood in a Wolverine game would be pretty weird

Akin to the upcoming Venom and Carnage film's PG-13 rating, a Wolverine game without gratuitous violence would be pretty strange. But apparently that's not happening, accord?ing to Insomniac creative director Brian Horton.

The trailer for Wolverine was one of the more shocking reveals in the recent Sony showcase, and folks are interested in hearing more about it like, as soon as possible. Althoug?h we'll have to wait for more specifics, we do have a bit of info thanks ?to Horton's Twitter account.

When asked by a fan if it's a "Miles Morales??"-size game, Horton responded: "full size, mature?? tone."

It's a simple and brief tweet, but it's all we have to go with at the moment for the Wolverine game. Plus, I think most people fully expected it to be a fully-fledged release, and Miles was kind of a rare inFamous: Last Light or inFamous: Festival of Blood micro-situation (look at that callback). Still, I'm glad they said something.

It's good timing too, because by the time this Wolverine game actually comes out, Marvel could have cast the next actor in the MCU for the part. Disney works in myst??erious ways!

Insomniac really knows what it's doing when it comes to Marvel properties, which is why we couldn't be more thrilled to see it working on Marvel's Wolverine for PS5.

Of all the Marvel properti??es, this is one we haven't been adapted much in games, especially recently. With Wolverine being such a well-loved character in the Marvel canon, I can't believe we didn't see this coming before.

"Marvel’s Wolverine is a standalone game being directed by Brian Horton (creative director) and Cameron Christian (game director), who recently led the creative efforts on Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, a game we're extremely proud of at Insomniac," noted Ryan Schneider, head of franchise strategy &?? studio relations at Insomniac Games.
