Plans have changed! Originally slated for September 2022, Nintendo is now targeting a Xenoblade Chronicles 3 July 29 launch.

, who gave us a new trailer that showcases “more about the game’s story, characters, and strategic battle system, where you can team up with up to seven characters.” We’ll evidently be put into the role of controlling “Noah and Mio,” as they deal with a conflict between the nations of Agnus and Keves: part of Aionios.

Nintendo is really stressing the “seven characters” thing, noting that each party member will have a unique battle role in “Noah’s party of six.” You’ll also be able to meet “additional characters,” hinting that the overall party, active and non-active, will be larger than prior games in the series, and many modern RPGs as a whole.

Noah is described as a close-range sword wielder, while Mio is a Zephyr, who excels in dodging/evasion and “drawing enemy attention.” You can also swap classes to create your own builds, and party members can “combine if certain conditions are met” to transform into a giant Ouroboros form: par for the course for super attacks in JRPGs.

We also got a taste of the Special Edition of the game, which will launch at a later undisclosed date “exclusively on the My Nintendo store.” It’ll include a special box (with art by Masatsugu Saito), the game itself, a steelbook, and an art book (that Nintendo says has “250+ full color pages”).

As usual, the Xenoblade series is getting a stylish launch!
