This Doom 2 mod takes inspiration from MachineGame’s Wolfenstein series

With a bit of BloodRayne thrown in for good measure.

You know what? It’s been a hot minute since I spoke about Doom or its equally influential follow-up, Doom 2. Both staples in the FPS genre, I’m struggling to come to terms with the thought that one day we may stop talking about these classic games.

However, now is not that time, and if you want to experience a veritable smorgasbord of first-person shooting from well-known names, you should definitely check out . This is a mod from user D3athStalker that combines Doom 2 with Wolfenstein, allowing you to fill the boots of the latter’s legendary protagonist, BJ Blazkowicz.

This isn’t from old school Wolfenstein, mind. The mod takes huge inspiration from the series as it’s understood by MachineGames, the studio that brought us the later installments in the franchise. As such, D3athStalker takes cues from the likes of The New Order, The Old Blood, and The New Colossus. In that respect, it combines the old with the♔ new, which is always 💖tasty.

As well as combining the newer Wolfenstein games with Doom 2‘s engine, the mod also incorporates elements from another series: BloodRayne. Essentially, when you boot up Doom: Incarnate, you’ll get to choose whether you play as Blazkowicz or Rayne, or you can let the game randomly select for you.

Whichever character you go for will give you certain traits. As noted on the ModDB description, if you go down the Wolfenstein-esque route, you’ll start with a primary and secondary weapon of your choice, as well as a hatchet.

However, if you want to experience a Doom 2 take on BloodRayne, you’ll start with a pair of long blades as your melee, which have higher damage output. However, unlike Blazkowicz, Rayne can’t use health items, but does come with some additional abilities.

Basically, have a tinker and see what outcome works best for you. What I do like about this mod is how it still keeps the original Doom 2 visuals in🐽tact, while also ❀gunning for a more MachineGames aesthetic. Again, tasty.
