Let me get straight to the point: Yoostar 2 is the SingStar for movies and TV shows. The game will actually insert you into the starring role in order to reenact scenes through the power of the Xbox 360 Kinect and the PlayStation 3 Eye. You will actually mimic the motions and say the lines in time with the on-screen prompts and ge🙈t points based on your performances.
It sounds weird saying it, but you’ll understand the concept once you watch me do the “It’s not a tumor” scene from Kindergarten Cop above. Arnold Schwarzeneggeཧr is compl♓etely removed so I can fill in and read the lines as they come up like in a karaoke game.
Pretty neat, right? Find out all that Yoostar 2 has t🌞o offer and for more embarrassing videos after the break.
(Xbox 360, PlayStation 3)
Developer: Blitz Games
Publisher: Yoostar
To be released: 2010
The original Yoostar was released for the PC last year and that’s been putting out tons of content. Even the game. Now publisher Yoostar is bringing the experience to consoles with the same accessibility and social features as the original.
The entire process is very simple. With the PlayStation Move or hand gestures for Kinect, you’ll select a clip to perform. Once you’ve picked something, you can watch the original scene. From there, you and a friend (if you’re playing two-players) will line up your body to match the displayed outline before performing.
The game will be able to detect how well you’re reading lines and acting out scenes. The better you perform, the more points you’ll be awarded. Note that you don’t actually have to change your voice like I did in two of the videos, but it is more entertaining and can help you when it comes to the robust social experience.
Performances can be shared with friends or to the Internet at large. Content will get screened first for naughty stuff, but o𝓰nce cleared, the Yoostar community will be able to vote on videos. Expect to see Facebook and Twitter integration as well.
Yoostar 2 is divided up into three sections. There’s the Hollywood scenes comprised of 45 scenes from movies and TV shows where you’ll perform the scene according to the script or do some improve. 20 other scenes under the Hollywood Sets section will just be of sets (cockpit from Top Gun, bridge from Star Trek, etc) where you’ll be able to do improve work. Then you have some basic video backgrounds like a beach or the Taj Mahal. This is just so you can make goofy video messages to send to others.
There is downloadable content in the works and Yoostar working on figuring out different price points for the extr🤡a content. Warner Brothers, Paramount, MGM, Universal, CBS and Lionsgate are all on board with the game and the current lineup of movies is impressive.
On the disc itself you’ll be getting an awesome range of movies from classics such as The Wizard of Oz and Casablanca to current day films like Kick-Ass and The Hangover. Other content will include scenes from The Godfather, Rocky, Gone with the Wind, Star Trek, Mad Men, Survivor, CSI, Terminator, Baby Momma, Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz to much more.
Content between the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game will remain largely the same. The only main difference between the two that I witnessed was how the game captures your body. The PlayStation 3 version needs you to step out of the frame before every scene so the Eye Toy can take a picture to calibrate the depth of the room. This isn’t necessary on the 360 as both the regular and the 3D camera in the Kinect is used to calibrate settings.
There’s plenty of music and rhythm games on the market, to the point that people are probably getting ready for something new. After playing Yoostar 2, I really feel like it has the potential to be the next staple series for the party game scene. I had plenty of fun with it and I’m really looking forward to playing it drunk as hell with friends when it’s released later this year.
[Update: Previously listed price points, release date and some of the titles that will be available were not correct. Post has been updated and we’ll fill you in on a release date and pricing once Yoostar reveals more details.]
