Who are the Five Elders in One Piece?

They may be old, but they are REALLY influential.

The Five Elders have always been an enigmatic force in One Piece. They are mostly seen dilly-dallying on their cozy couch in Pangaea Castle’s Room of Authority, waiting for news and reports from the Fleet Admiral. Even so, they make most of the important decisions, especially when it comes to running the World Government. Interestingly, little is known about them. That is until recently.

As Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates’ notoriety increased, the World Government could no longer let him roam the seas freely. They ultimately decided to get rid of him with everything they’ve got, and that meant deploying the Five Elders themselves. As such, we finally see these old geezers in action, learning what they are hiding under their sleeves.

What are the Five Elders?

The Five Elders are thought to be the supreme leaders of the World Government, but recent developments reveal that the true puppeteer is the mystical Imu. Even though their authority is second only to Imu, the Five Elders will not make a decision without the latter’s approval.

Nonetheless, the Five Elders still hold high authority in the government. They have control over all of its branches, including the Marines, Cipher Pol, and other secret organizations. They also have the power to declare war, issue orders for Buster Calls🐎, and dictate global policy. Furthermore, they can enlist the Admirals as bodyguards every time they go out of Marijoa.

The Five Elders are mainly responsible for upholding the status quo and suppressing😼 any information or threats that could destabilize the world order, such as the truth about the Void Century and the existence of the Ancient Weapons. Unfortunately, their main solution in achieving that is obliterating anything and anyone connected to these pieces of information.

Who are the Five Elders?

With the Five Elders’ attack on Egghead, we finally get to learn their names: St. Jaygarcia Saturn, St. Marcus Mars, St. Topman Warcury, St. Ethanbaron V. Nusjuro, and St. Shepherd Ju Peter. Interestingly, each one wields a Mythical Zoan Devil Fruit, granting them unique abilities.

The first Elder to make his name known is St. Jaygarcia Saturn, who sailed to Egghead accompanied by Kizaru. As the Godhead of Science and Defense, he is well-versed in the series’ scientific field. Saturn once succeeded in extracting the Age-Age Fruit and injected it into the infant Jewelry Bonney, allowing her to acquire the fruit’s abilities without ingesting it. He is also in possession of the abilities of a Mythical Zoan that allows him to transform into a Gyuki — a yokai with the head of an ox and the body of a spider. In his beast form, Saturn can secrete corrosive poison from his sharp legs and mouth.

St. Marcus Mars is the long-bearded Elder and is known as the Godhead of Environment. Most of the time, Mars is calm and collected. However, he tends to be reckless when put under pressure, such as when Vegapunk has started his final speech. At the time, Mars’ suggestion was to destroy the entire island, though York was quick to refute it due to the possible consequences of such action. Mars has also consumed a Mythical Zoan that allows him to transform into an Itsumade — a gigantic bird monster with the body of a serpent. Other than the creature’s innate ability to fly, Mars can also fire powerful beams from his mouth.

The Elder with the big mustache is St. Topman Warcury, who is also the Godhead of Justice. While still apathetic to human lives, Warcury at least has a shred of empathy toward them. He was the one who raised Lulusia’s population density to Imu when the supreme leader ordered its obliteration. Warcury’s Mythical Zoan lets him transform into a Fengxi — a giant boar monster with four tusks. Other than its gigantic physique, the Fengxi also has an incredibly tough hide and the ability to turn its tusks into sharp blades.

The bald Elder is St. Ethanbaron V. Nusjuro, who is also the Godhead of Finance. As such, he takes particular notice of the World Government’s assets. Instead of destroying the Pacifista attacking them, he disabled them for the possibility of regaining authority over them. Nusjuro has the ability to turn into a skeletal horse called a Bakotsu. In his beast form, he can generate and imbue his sword with ice. The Bakotsu form also grants him extreme speed, allowing him to run across the entirety of Egghead in a short period of time.

St. Shepherd Ju Peter, the Godhead of Agriculture, is the Elder with blonde hair. Having consumed a Mythical Zoan, Ju Peter can transform into the gigantic monster Sandworm. In that form, he has a powerful vacuum breath that can suck even Giants. Furthermore, he can spit out everything he sucked into t꧃he air. The Sandworm can also dig through the earth with ease, allowing Ju Peter to catch his opponents off-guard.
