EA is partnering with Middle-earth Enterprises to develop a free-to-play mobile title called <em>The Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-earth<\/em>.<\/p> <p>The free-to-play mobile RPG will sound a little familiar if you&#8217;ve played these kinds of games before. According to today&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/news.ea.com\/press-releases\/press-releases-details\/2022\/Electronic-Arts-Partners-with-Middle-earth-Enterprises-on-the-Development-of-Upcoming-Mobile-Game-The-Lord-of-the-Rings-Heroes-of-Middle-earth\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announcement<\/a>, it will have turn-based combat, a collection system of some kind, and characters from\u00a0<em>The Lord of the Rings\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0<em>The Hobbit<\/em>. Mobile players will use their party to fight battles in the world of\u00a0<em>LOTR<\/em>.<\/p> <p><em>The Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-earth\u00a0<\/em>is going into limited regional beta this summer. Games has been steering the\u00a0<em>Lord of the Rings\u00a0<\/em>video game ventures lately, Electronic Arts is no stranger to the franchise. The\u00a0PlayStation 2 era\u00a0<em>The Two Towers\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0<em>Return of the King\u00a0<\/em>brawlers were published by EA. Electronic Arts also published the RPG,\u00a0<em>The Lord of the Rings: The Third Age<\/em>, and the\u00a0<em>Battle for Middle-earth\u00a0<\/em>RTS series.<\/p> <p>In terms of mobile ventures though, this is something new.\u00a0<em>Heroes of Middle-earth\u00a0<\/em>is in development at Capital Games, the EA branch currently running\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ea.com\/ea-studios\/capital-games\/games\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes<\/em><\/a>. While the announcement advertises storytelling, cinematic animations, and high-fidelity graphics, concerns about monetization and content structure also seem pretty valid.<\/p> <p>A\u00a0<em>Lord of the Rings<\/em> mobile game that sounds a bit like\u00a0<em>Fate\/Grand Order <\/em>or <em>Fire Emblem Heroes<\/em>\u00a0might not be everybody&#8217;s cup of tea. We&#8217;ll see how <em>The Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-earth<\/em>\u00a0shapes out when the mobile game enters a limited beta later this
