{"id":641963,"date":"2024-11-21T08:55:01","date_gmt":"2024-11-21T14:55:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jbsgame.com\/?p=641963"},"modified":"2024-11-21T08:55:43","modified_gmt":"2024-11-21T14:55:43","slug":"rollercoaster-tycoon-classic-is-coming-to-nintendo-switch-on-december-5","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jbsgame.com\/rollercoaster-tycoon-classic-is-coming-to-nintendo-switch-on-december-5\/","title":{"rendered":"RollerCoaster Tycoon Classic is coming to Nintendo Switch in December"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Atari <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/JIKdt2KLCwo?feature=shared\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">has announced<\/a> that they are bringing the PC classic mega-hit <em>RollerCoaster Tycoon <\/em>to Switch on December 5. <em>RollerCoaster Tycoon Classic<\/em> will contain both the first game, its immediate sequel. I\u2019m going to assume it also has the second game\u2019s expansions, <em>Wacky Worlds<\/em> and <em>Time Twister<\/em>, but the PR doesn\u2019t say it. Uh, yep. Says so on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nintendo.com\/us\/store\/products\/rollercoaster-tycoon-classic-switch\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the store page<\/a>.<\/p>    <p>It\u2019s funny timing. My sister texted me the other day telling me that my nephew has a new interest in roller coasters and asked if I had any recommendations for one on Switch or iOS. I recommended <em>RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 Complete<\/em> on Switch, but now that the original is coming I\u2026 probably still would recommend <em>RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 Complete<\/em>. He\u2019s 12, he doesn\u2019t care about the real classics. Yet.<\/p>    <p>I actually spent a lengthy amount of time in the late \u201890s playing <em>RollerCoaster Tycoon<\/em>. It\u2019s one of the rare times my parents bought me a PC game (they were afraid I\u2019d fill up the \u201cmemory,\u201d which I probably would have). I remember quite a few mornings being vegetative in front of the screen. It\u2019s also the game that taught me the word \u201cqueue.\u201d I still play it occasionally, but did you know <em><a href=\"https:\/\/jbsgame.com\/reviews\/review-parkitect\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Parkitect<\/a><\/em> is a pretty great successor?<\/p><\/iframe>    <figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div   id="gqq8s83tkl"    class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\"> <\/iframe> <\/div><\/figure>    <p><em>RollerCoaster Tycoon<\/em> is a management game where you\u2019re given the task of building and running amusement parks. It\u2019s a lot like <em>Theme Park<\/em>, but much deeper and with a set of tools that allow you to design your own roller coasters. It was programmed by the <a href=\"https:\/\/jbsgame.com\/roller-coaster-tycoon-progenitor-transport-tycoon-acquired-by-atari\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">legendary Chris Sawyer<\/a> and is interesting in the convincing way it simulates physics, right down to the G-force that the passengers are feeling. It was initially released in 1999, but the only place you can feel that beyond the graphics are in how slow it can sometimes feel to progress.<\/p>    <p>Each area you build on has an objective to complete, which is usually \u201cHave so many people in the park\u201d and \u201chave this park rating\u201d in a set number of years. You have to not only manage how profitable you rides and stalls are, but also your reputation. If you kill a bunch of people on a poorly conceived ride, some will be hesitant to visit. My favorite was creating one of those drop towers with too short of a shaft and cranking up the thrust to send the riders screaming into space.<\/p>    <p>As for how it will adjust to console controllers. According to Atari, \u201cOur partners at Graphite Lab did an amazing job translating RCT Classic\u2019s detailed keyboard-based controls to controller input.\u201d I can see it working fun, since it\u2019s grid-based. The only thing I\u2019m having trouble imagining is the terrain deformation tools that allow you to grab and raise specific corners of a tile. We\u2019ll see, I guess.<\/p>    <p><em>RollerCoaster Tycoon Classic<\/em> is coming to Nintendo Switch on December 5, 2024 for $24.99. It is currently available on PC and mobile platforms.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The french fry stall is really good
